CAGiversary!
Feedback

Welcome to the Steam Deal Thread V4! You can find the V1 thread (Nov 2010-July 2011) here, V2 thread (July 2011 - Feb 2012) here, and V3 thread (Feb-July 2012) here. Read post #2 of this thread for Steam FAQs and more.

This is a Wiki post. Please read this
We appreciate you helping keep this thread up to date. The sales change virtually every day so no one person has the time to update them all. If you notice a game is no longer on sale, feel free to delete its line from the sale list. Of course, if you see a game is on sale, add it to the list. Make sure your changes match the thread's format! For example, every game that's on sale is part of an unordered list. When adding a game to the list, copy an existing line and update the link, title, and prices. That way, the format stays correct. Do not list percentages off! We list the original price and the sale price here. If you have any suggestions for major changes to the post/thread, PM me (EastX) about them.
for instructions on updating the thread.

Preorder Deals - Updated 8/9
Group Buys - Updated 8/14

Several multiplayer Steam games are available in 2-packs or 4-packs. These packs offer a discount over buying multiple copies of a game separately. We also maintain group buy trade threads for several games, so please use those threads if you're interested in setting up a group buy.

Free Stuff - Updated 4/3

There are several free games and mods on Steam. These are a few choice ones; you can find a full list here. Note that free games are not permanently attached to your Steam account like actual purchases would be. You'll need to manually download a game again from the website if you uninstall it.

Steam around CAG

If you are interested in joining the Steam CAG Community or participating in a trade or group buy with fellow Cheap Ass Gamers, please do so in the dedicated threads and not in the deal discussion thread. In the dedicated threads you will find CAGers with the same specialized interest who will be much quicker (and happier) to respond than in the Deals thread.

Past Special Sales

Visit www.steamgamesales.com to check previous sale prices on Steam games. We do keep track of some older sales here though:

Steam Retail Key List

What is a CD key and where can I find it?

https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=7480-WUSF-3601

The CD Key is a serial number with a combination of 13, 18, or 25 letters and numbers - it can be found on a sticker inside your game's case or printed on the game's quick reference card.
The CD Key acts as your proof of purchase for the game - Steam Support may ask for it if you need to establish your ownership of an account. It is recommended that you keep your CD Key in a safe place to ensure the security of your account.

I didn't get "extras" when I bought it last year.

YMMV

TMG
Almost 100% sure you won't get any extras unless they changed this pack from the last Quakecon pack's distribution rules.
This is probably the thing I dislike most about Steam. I really wish you'd get giftable copies for any game you already own that comes in any pack. I imagine this is probably the publishers fault though.
Rage is $6.79 over at Impulse (sorry, Gamestop PC Downloads) at the moment, it is Steamworks, so there ya go. I just wish my damn PC could run it just a tad better.....
Hell, maybe I should go buy that instead of trying to find the invoice from my Newegg order, so I can send a picture to Bethesda support showing them my purchase so that I might get a valid CD key.
QuakeCon Steam sale schedule:

 • Thursday: The Elder Scrolls Sale, with up to 66% off
 • Friday: Rage 50% off
 • Saturday: All Fallout titles, including DLC, are 66% off
 • Sunday: All id games are 75% off
Source: http://www.bethblog.com/2012/08/02/quakecon-steam-id-mobile-sale/

The best thing in this sale is the price drop of F:NV Ultimate. It won't go much deeper in sale than in Summer Camp, but I'm looking further to pick it at next big sale on $7.50 or even cheaper If I don't finish Fallout 3 GOTY before next price drop.

It's quite sad that they cut off 1/4 price from it in the US when the EU regions, despite the currency inequality, got only 1/8 permanent discount.
My thoughts are that the Rage price is a meh considering it's cheaper elsewhere, including boxed retail which comes with extras (at least the sewers and maybe the anarchy pack if you are lucky).

Also I wonder if all ID games really means all ID games. I really want Commander Keen and have been waiting what seems like an eternity for it to go 75% off. :p

Newegg says you can return "defective software" within 30 days. I'd say not being able to run it qualifies as defective. If you happened to get in on that free year of Shoprunner deal a while back, with Shoprunner you can send returns back for free. They'll give you a return label you print off and attach to the package so you won't have to pay the return shipping.

Otherwise I guess keep trying with Bethesda. :whistle2:/

I don't know whose choice it is, but it sucks. I never buy packs from Steam because either

(A) I own most of the "good" games since they're good and I wanted them previously so the pack now means I'm overpaying for what games I'll receive.
-or-
(B) I don't own any of the games because I never wanted any of the games, so I probably don't want a whole pack of them now.

I buy packs from Amazon just because at least I feel like I'm getting all the product I'm paying for, even if I gift away the extra games at no profit to myself. I can't justify if with Steam.

Edit: After typing this, I realized that this is no doubt 100% redundant with this crowd but I'm still waking up this morning.

When RAGE was $9 (with universal coupon) on Gamefly back in April, you were guaranteed to get the Anarchy + Sewer DLC. I'd try my luck with that, as it probably still comes with all of the DLC (though I can't confirm it). Not sure if Impulse/Gamestop is the same way though, I'd avoid them unless someone can confirm their version comes with the DLC.

I agree with you that newegg SHOULD accept his RAGE copy for a refund as it gives an invalid key. I'd get a refund and grab a key off of gamefly.
I believe that Rage is considered a Bethesda title instead of id
It is. For some reason it shows up on the list of Id Published games even though Bethesda is the Steam publisher.

These are the games that should be 75% off on Sunday, excluding Rage of course.
Dawnguard FINALLY launched.. and it's 20 bucks... not included in the stupid Skyrim sale :whistle2:(
 Excuse my bad pun.

It has been a while since the last Publisher Week or Weekend. Plus, the current deal is on a game everyone's been asking for.

Of course, when it comes to Skyrim, the people that are happy about 50% off will be accompanied by other individuals that are upset that the game's not 75% off.

It may not sound it, but I do enjoy the company of CAG's.

I'm not complaining about the deal. It just irks me. For example, I'm a LONG TIME ES player. If I buy the 66% deal for all the ES games, Dawnguard would be included. Awesome. But then I don't get ANY copies of anything I already own. So I can't even gift'm on. I don't MIND spending a bit extra to feel like I'm getting my monies worth. I just find it hard to choke down 20 bucks for 10-20 hrs when Skyrim was 100+ hrs for 60 bucks.

I lost 90 in 2005, though I happened to only be about 50 lbs overweight. It was my first time being thin, so I took it too far and became anorexic. The ideal weight for my height and body type is around 170, but I dropped to 130 and was about as close to Christian Bale in The Machinist as anyone should ever get. Now I'm stuck at 150 and can't gain weight, especially in my face where I want it. I took weight loss pills (mostly comprised of caffeine and derivatives) and played basketball. :whistle2:#

Same here. Once I had a buddy of mine over and he started playing with me the game got MUCH more easy/ tolerable at normal difficulties.

The $66 dollar package or whatever is just the individual items added up. There still is no discount on Dawnguard if you buy it.

I understand the complaint even if I don't always agree with the hour complaint argument. It is worth mentioning though that DLC for games like skyrim don't just give you 20 hours of story missions etc but they integrate with the whole game and its hard to gauge how much they actually give you.

All that being said this DLC has not reviewed very well and I think most would agree it is very over priced.

Regadring Dawnguard, it probably will end up on GMG soon and then mentioned they will be doing another general use 20% off code soon because so many people had problems getting payments through the last go round.

It's not much, but for a new release it's something. That is assuming that put it up and do the 20% voucher, of course.

Anyway, regarding the $20 price, I am okay with it. Of course it doesn't have as much value as the Skyrim base game, but almost nothing else does. As someone on the Skyrim steam forum pointed out, you're probably not going to get another game with that many play hours to cost ratio until ES6.

I know, but I really wanted this. But the $20 DLC is hard to swallow. Course when you pay $60 for a 4 hour Star Wars game, it puts things into perspective.

I was just hoping for a 10% discount or such for it. Me being whiny I suppose.

That pisses me off too. The fact that you're buying a license for a game a second time should mean that you have the right to obtain it, to redistribute it. But noooooOooOOoooOo, you don't get a second one even though you payed for it.

This is exactly why I stopped playing DD as well. Not to mention when I'd play with friends we could only do the first level. And as soon as we moved on to the next level we would get raped on the same difficulty. They've released so much new content, since that was back in Christmas though. It was just stale having to only be able to play the first level because that's the only thing that was do-able.

My friend and I just finished the first two episodes of The Walking Dead. Man... although I'd say it's not quite as "free form" as trailers and reviews try to lead you to believe (many of your choices don't matter too much in the end), I loved the emotional decisions and "what if" scenarios that stuck in my mind hours after I completed the game.

Question for fellow CAGs: Are the comics or TV show similar in scope and feeling? Amazon has the compendium with the first 8 volumes available for about $35... Is that worth it?

The comics are good (reading them now), the show.. well I got bored after season 1. I guess bored is too strong a term - I just felt the show wasn't worth sitting through the ridiculous amounts of commercials for. I am going to rent the first disc of season 2 and see if I like it more.

I don't know if i would describe it as brutal. Me and my group and by myself we didn't have much of an issue on normal difficulties but you do have to replay some levels and think about placement. The comics are great. I own the compendium and my only issue is ease of reading. I mean it's a comic and the compendium is 100s of pages in a think book and sometimes it's not the easiest to read. The hardcover books are the best because they are slightly bigger in page size, but they are also a lot more expensive. The TV show is great too, a little slow for some fans of typical zombie stuff, but again with the show and the comic the story is about the people and not the zombies.

Someone posted asking about the GMG code with Darksiders but their post disappeared.

Anyway, from the GMG blog:
Darksiders 2 is 25% off with code CROSS-OVERA-LREDY from 1100 UTC August 5th until 1100 UTC August 6th.

So I wouldn't risk wasting the PC Gamer 25% code on Darksiders 2 since you can't stack vouchers and they're both the same value.

Sorry, man, I wasn't trying to imply anyone in particular; I was speaking (Well, "typing.") extemporaneously. I just recall all the parties that were hoping for a major deal on Skyrim during the Summer Sale, and the complaints that arose by some that didn't agree with the final sale price.

The price of Skyrim isn't something I agree or disagree with, since I'm not after it at the moment. Furthermore, I feel others can comment how they choose on the matter. (It is very popular, after all, so demand is high.)
I lost around 15 last year (i'm fortunate to not having been 70 over, congrats on getting it off) beating Gladius and Skies of Arcadia (both gc) while on a treadmill at a reasonable walking pace. Definitely the way to do it, perfect for TBS.

:whistle2:#
I can't speak for weight loss myself; always been just barely underweight and only just started gaining weight in the last few years. But a friend of mine's younger brother was always pretty hefty and for the last year he really focused and lost over 100 lbs. He looks like a totally different person; oh and he made a sappy video about it :lol::lol::lol:
The comics are good (reading them now), the show.. well I got bored after season 1. I guess bored is too strong a term - I just felt the show wasn't worth sitting through the ridiculous amounts of commercials for. I am going to rent the first disc of season 2 and see if I like it more.
Get ready for super disappointment! I loved the first season....mostly....but season 2 took it upon themselves to pull a Lost and decide the show was 99% character development. Now I'm not one to say I wanna see just mindless Zombie attacks (as was the argument my friend tried to make a against me when I bashed the stupid character development shit)....but it is you know, A fuckING ZOMBIE SHOW. I mean when every episode has less than 10% of it featuring zombies, something is wrong.

EDIT:
It is. For some reason it shows up on the list of Id Published games even though Bethesda is the Steam publisher.

These are the games that should be 75% off on Sunday, excluding Rage of course.
WAIT A MINUTE...Master Levels for Doom II is $35 msrp on Steam?!?!?! I have like 2x boxed copies of that, how is it so expensive on Steam???
Titan Quest Gold is at least $1 cheaper on GG. ;) Plus the Steam version is known to have issues.

I just downloaded the Underlord mod and have been playing through this again with 3 friends to hold us over until GW2/TL2. It's still a ton of fun today.
Steam version works fine here. What are these issues you keep mentioning? The unofficial patch can be installed over the Steam version so I am not seeing the problem here.

Besides some of us prefer to have our games and Steam and are even willing to pay a (small) premium for it.
