CAGiversary!
Feedback

Welcome to the Steam Deal Thread V4! You can find the V1 thread (Nov 2010-July 2011) here, V2 thread (July 2011 - Feb 2012) here, and V3 thread (Feb-July 2012) here. Read post #2 of this thread for Steam FAQs and more.

This is a Wiki post. Please read this
We appreciate you helping keep this thread up to date. The sales change virtually every day so no one person has the time to update them all. If you notice a game is no longer on sale, feel free to delete its line from the sale list. Of course, if you see a game is on sale, add it to the list. Make sure your changes match the thread's format! For example, every game that's on sale is part of an unordered list. When adding a game to the list, copy an existing line and update the link, title, and prices. That way, the format stays correct. Do not list percentages off! We list the original price and the sale price here. If you have any suggestions for major changes to the post/thread, PM me (EastX) about them.
for instructions on updating the thread.

Preorder Deals - Updated 8/9
Group Buys - Updated 8/14

Several multiplayer Steam games are available in 2-packs or 4-packs. These packs offer a discount over buying multiple copies of a game separately. We also maintain group buy trade threads for several games, so please use those threads if you're interested in setting up a group buy.

Free Stuff - Updated 4/3

There are several free games and mods on Steam. These are a few choice ones; you can find a full list here. Note that free games are not permanently attached to your Steam account like actual purchases would be. You'll need to manually download a game again from the website if you uninstall it.

Steam around CAG

If you are interested in joining the Steam CAG Community or participating in a trade or group buy with fellow Cheap Ass Gamers, please do so in the dedicated threads and not in the deal discussion thread. In the dedicated threads you will find CAGers with the same specialized interest who will be much quicker (and happier) to respond than in the Deals thread.

Past Special Sales

Visit www.steamgamesales.com to check previous sale prices on Steam games. We do keep track of some older sales here though:

Steam Retail Key List

What is a CD key and where can I find it?

https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=7480-WUSF-3601

The CD Key is a serial number with a combination of 13, 18, or 25 letters and numbers - it can be found on a sticker inside your game's case or printed on the game's quick reference card.
The CD Key acts as your proof of purchase for the game - Steam Support may ask for it if you need to establish your ownership of an account. It is recommended that you keep your CD Key in a safe place to ensure the security of your account.

Where else in your life is $2.50 going to shake off peer pressure?

Don't supersize next time. Pass on a morning coffee. Steal from a homeless guy's cup.

The succulent fruits command it.

Should I buy the Total War bundle at $15 and hope that the Shogun stuff will come down again during the sale, or just get the Sega pack at $50 to have them all plus Binary Domain and whatever else extra is in there?

Ive wanted to snag a pack or two but after every calculation I came out better part and piecemeal w/discounts.

It'll probably rediscount. If it doesn't cant you just buy the pack last day?
and fable III won...
Your health is low.
Do you have any potions, or food?

I so wish Fable II had come to the PC and Steam. So so wish it so.
Where's my Alan Wake and Driver flash sales D::
You missed it. The Alan Wake Bundle was on sale for $9.99 on the 14th. It was for Alan Wake and the new one. If it doesn't go on sale again, it's still worth $19.99 for both games IMO. The first one is great so far (only half way through it) and I've seen gameplay of the 2nd and it looks good too.

I can definitely see how people get lost in what they buy. I've bought 13 games so far and every time something goes on sale again, I think to myself "I should get that!" and then I check out my library to see that I already have it. I've done that 3 times with LA Noire already. I don't even know when I'm going to get the time to play all these games. I bought Skyrim 2 weeks ago and I'm still playing that.

Man, really having a tough time deciding if I want to bite on Trinty, or wait on Rebellion. Rebellion seems hands-down better, but having never played a 4X, Trinity is a good, low-priced intro. That said, Rebellion might prove a better start.

And it may be just me, but from coming to these threads pretty much every Steam sale and usually enjoying them, I personally wish the "Coconut Queen" stuff would move to another thread. It has nothing to do with the deals and discussion of.

I agree its OT but Steam threads (all threads) invariably are. Plus, there's been a lot less deal discussion as it seems there's been a lot less deals to discuss.

Is Coconut Queen comedy gold? No. It's just the current off topic lightning rod.

If it's not one silly thing, it'll be another. But feel free to steer the conversation back towards normalcy whenever you like. People seem to take that ball and run with it.
Bought Syberia. Will add this to my collection when it drops thanks to you.

Man, the bile generated from DA2 is immense. WILDLY divergent metacritic user and reviewer score. I heard they didnt keep up with the first but this is like nothing Ive ever seen.
It was only wildly disappointing in that it was only really related to Dragon Age: Origins (and your created character from that) in the fact that it existed in the same universe and made the very slight of adjustments to the story based on your actions in the first. Also, a couple characters from the original make a reapperance (not the popular ones, mind you).

It also ended in a cliffhanger that merely left you feeling like, 'okay, where is the rest of the story?' and reused a lot of maps sending you through the same locations over and over.

But overall, it is still a finely polished RPG for the most part, and definetly a great adventure overall. Dragon Age: Origins was still leagues better, and the DLCs (and mods) available for it will easily amuse you for 100+ hours of amazing engrossing story.

Its hard to get a sense from user review numbers because vote bombing is often rampant.

So had it been stand alone or in some other universe, the mechanics and such (for DA2) would have been seen as good but that it tied into a past property, the expectations were just too high (like obsessed simpsons fans and the like)
Did I misunderstand it? I thought you just had to have ONE of them (so 2 of the 3 ok)
Yeah, you just have to have one of the previous games on your Steam account. I bought Clear Sky and it brought down the price of Pripyat, which I then purchased in a separate transaction. I already have the first game (but not on Steam), so I didn't want the whole bundle.

Good summary. People are too harsh on certain games simply because they weren't as good as the first. For example, say Dragon Age: Origins is rated 9, and Dragon Age 2 doesn't do anything new and has a few worse points and is rated a 4, when in actuality it should be a 7.5.

Perhaps that only makes sense to me, but I suppose there are different ways to judge a game.
Did I misunderstand it? I thought you just had to have ONE of them (so 2 of the 3 ok)
You're correct- only need one of the other two to get CoP for $3.74. But, it still doesn't sway me to buy in. I doubt I'll ever get around to playing one, I know I'll never play two of them.

It said "SOME" of the games may have Tames (or whatever the hell its called) DRM on it. Could you tell which?
Id like to avoid it like the plague as Im in between PCs right now.
But I wanna play it too.

Well, I'm generally referring to the whole silliness train - but Coconut Queen is just sorta at the top at the moment. At any rate, I don't wish to rain on anyone's parade. I think part of this issue is the flash and community deals have me checking this thread more often. Normally I'd just hit it up right before / after the daily switch over, when on-topic discussion is more likely.

Thanks for the rundown, appreciated. I've still got to play through Origins before I even consider the sequel, but good to hear some level headed discussion.

I was debating about that too.
But considering Trinity will waste hours and hours + other games I bought during the sale, I figured thats more than enough time to waste until price drops for Rebellion...

If you never tried the series, Trinity should be good place to start.

I think a big reason for all the OT discussion is the flash sales are making a lot of people lose sleep, and those people are going batty. And I am one of them. Even though I know that I can go to bed and catch them in the morning.

I :applause: your resolve then friend. Most wouldn't have even thought of the difference let alone verbalized it and followed through with the plan in the face of some criticism. You are a better man (or woman? Person? Self aware robot?) than I.

And to that point, there is a game in the $5 or under category best sellers which I do not currently own and now must buy for that very reason alone (well mostly)

Gotta catch 'em all!

I think I read just before on a Steam thread (sorry, I don't remember where, a Google search might help you) that despite listing it, an update went through and none of the Steam STALKERs have DRM on them.

Oh wait, here it is.

I'm newish to Steam, so I'm not sure if we can take that as gospel, but thought others might like to know.

Ok, I did my due diligence and I feel confident that I can vote for my candidate, Longest Journey without reservation.

As we've discussed this game series earlier, I think we all need to mobilize our forces and get out the vote!

Oh, and anyone who logs a post in the thread during voting hours will be eliminated if Longest doesnt win.

And don't bitch "but I voted for it." Get your friends, family, neighbors, go go go!

I never said I was fair. Life's not fair. EVER.

Voted for Longest.

I really want to play The Next Big Thing, but even at 75% off that price is too rich for my blood. Those Pendulo adventures are beautiful and well-written, but super short. Can't justify 7.50 on it.

I guess I'm voting Longest Journey. I have Puzzle Agent 2 and the other is a little higher-priced.

Whats my malfunction on Puzzle Agent 2? I see a lot of friends playing currently but its like a 62 on metacritic.

Is it a niche? Not widely reviewed? Ive seen it like a bunch.
Thank you for tactfully saying what I wanted to but was unable.
Haha, no problem.

Yeah these deals kind of stunk. At least I can go pick up Saints Row the Third for $9.99 now and take all of the DLC I bought earlier on Steam!

:nottalking: What are you trying to say about
Leliana? She's awesome.

I agree with everything else you said about DA2 though, the game was still really enjoyable, and I liked the new cast of characters too, my only major complaint with it was the reuse of environments (I never want to see that cave again).
Any opinions on the Bit Trip games?
After seeing the deal up, I checked my library to see if I had any of the Bit Trip games because I was sure I got it in an Indie Bundle, sure enough I did.

So I started playing it. Third level in, and I'd probably describe it as charming, frustrating 'old skool' gaming, complete with sexy NES-like gaming shallowness.

Again, third level in.

I think a lot of people have it because it had an achievement associated with the Steam Winter Sale. It's not too bad. Basically an adventure game with cartoonish graphics, a quirky setting, and some puzzles thrown in.
Any opinions on the Bit Trip games?
It gets lots of love from everyone (or at least it did when it came out). Bit Trip Beat was okay - it has a clever twist on the Arkanoid gameplay and ties it in with the rhythm genre.

Bit Trip Runner just ticked me off. If you like exact, unforgiving, running and jumping then you may be in heaven. It takes platforming gameplay and mashes it together with a rhythm game. I didn't find it fun at all.

Google some video on the game first. The bundle doesn't look like that great of a deal to me, to be honest. I'm not a soundtrack collector and the games are worth a couple of bucks each at the most. Okay, well maybe not Runner.

Ive spent close to $150 so far during this sale. I'm about to pass the 200 game mark in my library. I've played about 50 and beat maybe 10 of them in the last 2 years. I think I'm addicted to buying cheap games then never playing them. Help.

Have all the games on the vote, but did the honorable thing and voted for the Longest Journey for those who don't have it. No excuses now, lads and lasses.
