CAGiversary!
Feedback

Welcome to the Steam Deal Thread V4! You can find the V1 thread (Nov 2010-July 2011) here, V2 thread (July 2011 - Feb 2012) here, and V3 thread (Feb-July 2012) here. Read post #2 of this thread for Steam FAQs and more.

This is a Wiki post. Please read this
We appreciate you helping keep this thread up to date. The sales change virtually every day so no one person has the time to update them all. If you notice a game is no longer on sale, feel free to delete its line from the sale list. Of course, if you see a game is on sale, add it to the list. Make sure your changes match the thread's format! For example, every game that's on sale is part of an unordered list. When adding a game to the list, copy an existing line and update the link, title, and prices. That way, the format stays correct. Do not list percentages off! We list the original price and the sale price here. If you have any suggestions for major changes to the post/thread, PM me (EastX) about them.
for instructions on updating the thread.

Preorder Deals - Updated 8/9
Group Buys - Updated 8/14

Several multiplayer Steam games are available in 2-packs or 4-packs. These packs offer a discount over buying multiple copies of a game separately. We also maintain group buy trade threads for several games, so please use those threads if you're interested in setting up a group buy.

Free Stuff - Updated 4/3

There are several free games and mods on Steam. These are a few choice ones; you can find a full list here. Note that free games are not permanently attached to your Steam account like actual purchases would be. You'll need to manually download a game again from the website if you uninstall it.

Steam around CAG

If you are interested in joining the Steam CAG Community or participating in a trade or group buy with fellow Cheap Ass Gamers, please do so in the dedicated threads and not in the deal discussion thread. In the dedicated threads you will find CAGers with the same specialized interest who will be much quicker (and happier) to respond than in the Deals thread.

Past Special Sales

Visit www.steamgamesales.com to check previous sale prices on Steam games. We do keep track of some older sales here though:

Steam Retail Key List

What is a CD key and where can I find it?

https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=7480-WUSF-3601

The CD Key is a serial number with a combination of 13, 18, or 25 letters and numbers - it can be found on a sticker inside your game's case or printed on the game's quick reference card.
The CD Key acts as your proof of purchase for the game - Steam Support may ask for it if you need to establish your ownership of an account. It is recommended that you keep your CD Key in a safe place to ensure the security of your account.
how come when i bought the gta pack it gave me 2 of each like 2 vice city/ 2 san andreas and so on and i cant delete the 2nd ones and they just sit there i want them out but when i try to run the extra one it just says not in my area so anyone have ideas how to get rid of them its annoying
Pretty sure the extras are the mac versions. As far as I am aware you can't get rid of them from your games list.
I want to buy Coconut Queen.....
Well another relatively unknown game is Legend of Fae not a bad game and quite a hidden gem I hear. and even cheaper than Coconut Queen xD

Question: For steam group does it take my Steam Account name or my Steam ID to get invited? Curious.

BTW, what is the coconut queen thing? I must have missed that.

But it's not as "unique" as Coconut Queen ;)
Derailments? Big breasted zombies with derailment breasts? Just made the game sound 1000x better.
Isn't that seriously part of this game? I remember hearing about a train simulator with zombie DLC, and I thought it was Railworks. Best train sim ever.

Edit: It's Trains vs. Zombies at $2.49 (50% off). And you already own it. ;P

I actually bought it when someone recommended it being a bit like Puzzle Quest. So thanks.

After today's games, except Limbo which I'll probably grab, I regret not getting The Walking Dead yesterday and Crysis 2 this morning. I kept thinking that there would be something better to spend money on. At least today there isn't. :\
Cool. I'll get the skins and skip the Harley's Revenge pack. Looked up some reviews and they were meh. Maybe when it's 75-80% off and if I'm starving for more. I still need to finish AA. I'm stuck someplace and can't even find my way out with a walkthru. I so suck.
Yeah if you haven't finished AA yet, you can wait on the DLC. I just picked it up a few days ago when AC was first on sale because I've been waiting since it came out for a nice price drop on HQ's Revenge. It's a great incentive for me to fire up AC again as soon as I've saved the galaxy in ME3.

Okay, so I am sorry to say this but I have to add Dear Esther as another pleasant surprise to me. I, personally, think it was a pretty amazing experience with a great setting, writing, and especially the music. The soundtrack is incredible.

Everyone anti Limbo talks about the length or style. Nobody mentions the controls. I could see myself really liking the game, but the controls are molasses slow ruining it. I could see many traps coming and dozens and dozens of times I died because my jump didn't register. I was triple pressing jump to get over some obstacles and it still wasn't working. This thing isn't dark Mario by a longshot.

Did anyone else have this problem? Is it my machine's fault?

That is very strange. I think you may be thinking of the parts in the game where the bugs latch onto your head and you have little control over yourself? You have to wait it out and you regain control.

If that's not the portion you are speaking of, then it might have been a hardware issue or a bug (other than the one in the game).

I played limbo with both KB/M and gamepad. Never had the problems you mentioned. On occasion some buttons would not register like I wanted, but it wasn't a consistent thing. So maybe it's your machine?

I thought some of Limbo's gameplay mechanics were very sloppy, but I don't think I had an issue with the controls constantly not registering.

I can't speak for Limbo itself, but I had difficulty in timing the jumps in Cave Story+ with a keyboard. However, once I used my trusty Saturn USB controller it solved the problem. You should invest in a Saturn USB controller from ebay; it's definitely a must when playing 2d side scrolling games.

Cave Story+ controls are pretty floaty, which gave me a lot of issues jumping accurately.

There is a tiny bit of input lag in LIMBO but it shouldn't be enough to screw-up your jumps. (think; not as responsive as Mario but nowhere near something like the old Tomb Raiders)

edit: Yeah, I just fired-up the PC version to refresh my memory and with a 360 pad I had no issues timing jumps.
Is SecuROM really a dealbreaker?

Looking at the GTA collection and IV/Episodes from Liberty City utilize the DRM. I've just never (knowingly) had any experience with it.
The only DRM that's ever prevented me from playing a game is a disc check and a lost box moving.

Can anyone confirm if the 360 controller will work for all of the GTA games?

I am really interested in the older ones (GTA 1, 2, 3, VC, and SA). The only one that has the controller compatible icon is GTA4. EFLC does not have the icon either for some reason. Thanks for any help.

It seems as though IV is the only one that officially supports the controller pad but you can always get a 360 controller to work by other means - Xpadder for instance. I could be wrong and I am interested in knowing as well because I'd purchase Vice City if I could use a controller.

Man, I could get the binary domain DLC and still have it be less than the steam price (got it from Amazon). Tempting, in a way. Not sure it's worth it though...
Does anyone think Batman: Arkham Asylum will drop below 66%? I just bought Arkham City for $10.19 but held off from buying Asylum in hopes that it would drop to 75% off (my wallet's getting thin)
Arkham Asylum was $5 for the holiday sale.

Considering the fact that I have both AA and AC on the PS3, I'm just holding off on both of them until they're a cheap enough price to see how well the 3D is implemented in them for the PC.
Just downloaded Limbo and I'm encountering a problem. Whenever I hit the Esc key and bring up the menus, it scrolls through the options without stopping. Not sure what is causing this, any tips?
Make sure you don't have a joystick or xbox controller connected. Those will often mess up games so they think you are rolling the mouse down continuously.

Sounds like a problem with your machine. It's not a fast-paced game by any means, but I don't find it sluggish, and had no problems with controls not registering. I use a wired Xbox controller and it worked well.

Got GTA IV: Complete Edition for 7.50

Already have it for 360 but want to use those nice looking mods for it. Plus never played any of the expansions.

Will try this with a PS3 controller when I get home.

I had troubles playing with keyboard, but once I switched to the analog on the 360 pad, i had no troubles timing/placing my jumps. Makes me wonder how the game was so highly praised before it was ported to consoles and given controller support.

I wouldn't recommend going for Saturn USB pads atm. Only person confirmed by myself and plenty of others (notably from SRK forums) for "legit" Saturn pads was from ebay seller litianedup. However, they haven't sold a USB Saturn pad for a while. I can also confirm that they are "more legit" than others because the feel of the pads and the buttons are definitely there. The knockoff ones definitely have a stiffer pad. However, both pads have shitty buttons.

Just looked at the pads, they differ by model number. Legit original ones ISS-5001 compared to ISS-5001-01 or ISS-5001-02. The ISS-5001 just feels better.

In the end, it's just better to go with the 360 wired pad. Sure the D pad is ass, but who uses that thing anyway, other than menu type situations.

Between my wired 360 pad and a USB connector for my ps2 controller I'ms et for any type of PC game or emulating need. That's what I would recommend as well.

I still have not used my ps3 controller to play certain games on my pc but I am going to try it when I get home tonight. Do I need to go to a website to download the drivers or will my computer automatically download the drivers for me (I am using windows 7)? I see on youtube that show different websites that offer drivers to download.

MotioninJoy

They can be a bit finicky but they do emulate 360 pads if need be.

Finicky =
1. Installing them in a way in which they stick and continue to work through reboots can be tricky.
2. If you haven't de-synced the controller then it'll turn on the PS3 when you connect/disconnect. (I think it's just one of those but I forget which...on connection I think)

Long-story-short, they eventually pushed me to just buy a wired 360 pad for $30. (D-pad still sucks donkey dong)

Originally, all I had was ps2/3 type controllers (never owned an xbox). But once I got a 360 pad, I started to like it over the age old playstation pad. The triggers are better, wider support, and feels more ergonomic.

Yes, I've tried Motioninjoy. It just became a hassle and I started missing the 360 triggers. the 360 pad just makes non-FPS games that much more enjoyable. I even have driving wheels, but when I can just plug in a 360 pad and 9 times out of 10 the game recognizes it, I leave the wheels stored away.

Its only flaws are the d-pad, and maybe the staggered joystick layout (not really a con for me). I mean look at the mock up images of the Wii U Pro controller, it's basically the xbox controller except with level joysticks.

Those parts of the game were wretched. The game play was infuriating, then they bury a worm in your brain to make it harder- not fun.

The 360 pad is by far the easiest, that's for sure. You can't beat the PS2 pad's D pad for emulators, though! :3
Bought Limbo, been waiting a long time to play that.

I see what you did there .
I was going to buy Amnesia, but I forgot.

I liked Limbo but I thought it got progressively worse as it went on. It's the ultimate trial and error game. It looks like just the DNF "Doctor Who Cloned Me" DLC for me today since it finally showed up at 75% off.

For the final days of the sale, I really wish that James Bond: Blood Stone would drop at least to 10 bucks. I don't think it's been lower than 13 dollars, ever.

Best D pad belongs to Sega Saturn. The PS2 d pad isn't even that great. The sunken dpad buttons couldn't hold a flame to the raised pads (except for xbox dpad, it's horribad).

It's my favorite one. I can't stand raised D pads. To me, you lose all precision. I can't imagine playing a street fighter or Megaman X with anything but the PS D pad.

San Andreas has a real problem with controllers because they don't allow you to remap the d-pad. It's permanently set to character movement. Remappers like Xpadder can't change this. There is a workaround/mod where you obtain the version 1.0 of the game and use a utility called SACC to reconfigure it, I think I got it to work once but it's a real pain in the ass.

Raised seems much more precise than sunken. Sure you can hit the cardinal directions easier with a sunken, but when it comes down to diagonals, the raised hits them much easier. Look at the old psp gen 1 dpad, no way in hell can someone do a hadouken on that thing.
