CAGiversary!
Feedback

Welcome to the Steam Deal Thread V4! You can find the V1 thread (Nov 2010-July 2011) here, V2 thread (July 2011 - Feb 2012) here, and V3 thread (Feb-July 2012) here. Read post #2 of this thread for Steam FAQs and more.

This is a Wiki post. Please read this
We appreciate you helping keep this thread up to date. The sales change virtually every day so no one person has the time to update them all. If you notice a game is no longer on sale, feel free to delete its line from the sale list. Of course, if you see a game is on sale, add it to the list. Make sure your changes match the thread's format! For example, every game that's on sale is part of an unordered list. When adding a game to the list, copy an existing line and update the link, title, and prices. That way, the format stays correct. Do not list percentages off! We list the original price and the sale price here. If you have any suggestions for major changes to the post/thread, PM me (EastX) about them.
for instructions on updating the thread.

Preorder Deals - Updated 8/9
Group Buys - Updated 8/14

Several multiplayer Steam games are available in 2-packs or 4-packs. These packs offer a discount over buying multiple copies of a game separately. We also maintain group buy trade threads for several games, so please use those threads if you're interested in setting up a group buy.

Free Stuff - Updated 4/3

There are several free games and mods on Steam. These are a few choice ones; you can find a full list here. Note that free games are not permanently attached to your Steam account like actual purchases would be. You'll need to manually download a game again from the website if you uninstall it.

Steam around CAG

If you are interested in joining the Steam CAG Community or participating in a trade or group buy with fellow Cheap Ass Gamers, please do so in the dedicated threads and not in the deal discussion thread. In the dedicated threads you will find CAGers with the same specialized interest who will be much quicker (and happier) to respond than in the Deals thread.

Past Special Sales

Visit www.steamgamesales.com to check previous sale prices on Steam games. We do keep track of some older sales here though:

Steam Retail Key List

What is a CD key and where can I find it?

https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=7480-WUSF-3601

The CD Key is a serial number with a combination of 13, 18, or 25 letters and numbers - it can be found on a sticker inside your game's case or printed on the game's quick reference card.
The CD Key acts as your proof of purchase for the game - Steam Support may ask for it if you need to establish your ownership of an account. It is recommended that you keep your CD Key in a safe place to ensure the security of your account.

Just a reminder to click-happy CAGs that the "Add All DLC to Cart" button is not always your friend. Save $0.59 on the DX:HR DLC with a pack.
...That said, only Amazon sells DRM free FC2...
These Polish guys also seem to have it.

Again no Oblivion? Argh! I did see Crysis Warehead though. Never played the Crysis games, but I have 1 and 2 in my backlog. Anyone recommend this for the price? It been lower before? I don't plan on getting to it for awhile most likely...
Yeah, this has been the most dissapointing aspect of the sale this summer.

Other sales had more of a feeling of discovering games/gems from the dailies. This year they just recycle last years gems. Dungeon Defenders and Magicka were great last year, but where are this year's games? Or more obscure indie stuff that might be cool? It feels like we have to go hunt it down our selves and many times it isn't even that discounted.
Yeah, exactly. When I look at what I bought, the only indie games I bought was QUBE and Toy Soldiers and Toy Soldiers got high praise on 360 so none of them are really a unique gem. I wish Steam featured more unique games this sale, or something to offer more discovery. Not just here is indie bundles of games you already own because you bought almost every indie bundle in existence.

Actually this sale to me has been not buy anything new and exciting, buy games that everyone else I know played that I missed.

Be REALLY careful about that button! Sometimes there are DLC that are actually packs of other individual DLC (ie the Saint's Row Season Pass) so you may be doubling up if you just blindly add all DLC. Definitely not a recommended thing to do.

There is a nice mod for FC2 that increases damage, removes the yellow filter, and makes stealth better. That said, only Amazon sells DRM free FC2.
Darn it.

I think you've hit the nail on the head.
Well, I'll at least say that there's nothing here for me today.

Somehow, I find myself considering Far Cry.
Looking at Far Cry too. I'm not a huge FPS fan, but the setting and immersion are tempting me.
Today's Indie Bundle looks pretty good! I've been eyeing Jamestown for awhile, and am semi-interested in VVVVVV (though I hear it's really hard). Don't know much about the others, though. Would this bundle be worth getting?
VVVVVV is hard, but it makes up for it by having almost zero death animation or reload time. It's just a flash and you're trying it again. There are many collectibles that are insanely hard to reach places, but they aren't required and I was fine not being a completionist. The music is great, I really enjoyed the game, and it's just the right length.

Interested in Driver but not quite sure yet as driving games are fun but not really my top priority right now.

Bit on Red Orchestra, I am a bit of a sucker for WWII shooters and it seems different enough to keep me interested.

The game is good, but in terms of immersion that may be a bit harder to find. The stealth is hit and miss but the game as a whole is very good with the exception of a few repetitive parts.

Just keep slowly chipping away at the walls, one day your be free and stronger for it :applause: and I can personally agree with your statement about games helping out with personal issues like PTSD.

Besides always remember your never the only one who ends up being at home all the time. Being a stay at home mom with a newborn I hardly ever leave the house. Thank god for netflix :bouncy:

Driver SF is like playing a video game version of the highway chase scene in the 2nd Matrix movie and you are the agents.

Insanely Twisted Shadow Planet is a go for me. Beautiful graphics by an acclaimed artist, Metroidvania which is rare on the PC, and the only drawback is length? 4-5 hours of gameplay for $3.75: that's what Steam Sales are for!

It's GFWL, which means it definitely won't be in a cheap indie bundle as well. Microsoft will probably never give out GFWL codes for such a venture.

I don't think you need to give out GFWL codes for games on Steam though. I think you just give the Steam code and then you just log in with your Microsoft login info. It just uses it as another (unnecessary) layer of DRM and then the XBox stats and multiplayer stuff I guess.

With Insanely Twisted, are the ship controls "swimming" or are they suspended? By swimming I mean where you are constantly sinking and have to modulate the thrust non-stop to stay suspended.

That movie was like a 2/5 but this comment pushed me from being interested to absolutely must have
I'm happy to see dailies repeated. More chances to buy.
I agree. It gives people another chance if they regretted passing on something. Plus, not everybody on Steam has locked themself in front of their monitor in anticipation of every new deal. Repeating deals works in the favor of many people.
On the topic of the constant "these deals are crap" complaints: not everybody has a backlog of games that will never get touched. Just because you have a game already or it was already on sale doesn't make it a "crap" deal. I'm an 8 year Steam user and my library is maybe 30 games, so I'm enjoying grabbing a few games at a nice price.

what sucks about the indie bundles is when you own 3/5 of the games, then your stuck in that "$10....that means $5 each for the games I don't already have" mentality.
Is the DRM still in it? I am VERY apprehensive after getting burned on From Dust (which also played like garbage).
No, only an initial activation to tie it to your Ubisoft account.
DLC worth it at all?
There are some non-essential DLCs, like skins and such. But for the price if I were you I'd get them all (I finished buying the last 6-7 DLCs that I had missing a couple of days ago).

Those essentials IMO are:

 • Lost of Eternia Shards Complete (Maps)
 • Summoner (Class)
 • Barbarian (Class)
 • New Heroes (Class counterparts of the starter ones)
 • Talay (Map)
 • City in the Cliffs (Map)
 • EV Hero (Class)

But again, for the price, you should get all.

I think you point out the problem: the indie bundles already exposed most of the good indies. Back before the bundles, you could have discoveries. Now, that doesn't exist anymore.

The question is, what games should they be exposing? The only suggestions that I've read that haven't been promoted are Legend Of Fae and Spectromancer. I haven't seen too many suggestions beyond those.

That being said, there have been a decent amount of indies in this sale. Beyond what you've mentioned, we got Vessel, Tiny and Big, Krater, and Botanicula. Problem is, many of us sit here and wonder if we should buy or see if they eventually come in an indie bundle. (hell, Botanicula was introduced in an indie bundle.)

I agree, at this price you should pick up everything. Though get the bundles if possible as they are cheaper overall then!

Yeah I made the mistake of getting only the base game and now I really want all the dlc  But if I went and bought it all separately it'd be just as expensive now

Driver! Yeah! That was the last game I was waiting for this sale. Also nabbed Far Cry 2. I've passed on that game repeatedly for $5, but $2.50? Sold.

Debating Crysis 2. The price is good, but I could wait.

If I buy the dungeon defenders collection, but already have the game will it allow me to gift the extra copy, but keep the dlc?
Yeah I made the mistake of getting only the base game and now I really want all the dlc  But if I went and bought it all separately it'd be just as expensive now
Everything is on sale, both the Complete Collection and the individual DLCs (they got the same discount).

By the way, just in case, Talay and City in the Cliffs is only one map (singular, not plural as in several maps in a single DLC). The exception is Eternia Shards Complete DLC, which comes with four maps.
Is Civilization V DLC recommended or is the regular version good enough?
or should I just get the GOTY version for $5 more?
I'm not a fan of scenarios so GOTY loses a lot of value there. And a lot of the civ packs are shitty. I only got the korean civ. So just look through what the goty adds and see if any of the civs interest you enough that you might use them.

Good news is that the green bar that tells me I own the game finally works. It was driving me nuts this whole sale. Then again, it's probably a sign I have too many games...

As for the question about the dd collection, no. You don't get an extra copy.

I can fully recommend Driver:SF, best Driver game in the series, and breathes fresh air into it with the whole car jumping/takeover mechanic. The car physics are just right, I think. A mix between arcade and sim, focused more on the former. Again, requires Uplay, but you can always run in offline mode. The only bad thing about the game is that it doesn't fully support all driving wheels, however the game was pretty much made with the xbox controller in mind.

I think at this point I am done other then if a sale comes up for Arma2 and if not I'll buy it with the 20% discount, I spent more money then I wanted already.
Why did the Farcry Flash come in with 12 hours on the clock? Those are usually for the Flash's that hit 10PM-3AM EST
My guess is either they are running out of flash deal games to put up, Or maybe due to people in Europe complaining on the forums about how the time difference makes it unfair for them. Which does make sense as our 12 hour nightly ones are their day time and then our fast 4-6 hours one are their night time.

But would think a easier solution would be just to like have the same "deals" just mirror them at different times for Europe.
If you missed Dungeon Defenders sale, it's among today's Daily Deals!
Oh, I think it's safe to say that there are tribes of aboriginal peoples in the Amazon who have never had contact with the outside world and have no computers who nevertheless have a copy of Dungeon Defenders for every man, woman, and child in their societies.

In other news, for those with experience with both games, Is RO2 a lot friendlier for SP than the original? I had little interest in the original but it looks like this one has actual single-player campaigns. Is it still basically a tutorial for the MP or does it have some genuine depth? If it's any good and if anyone wants to do this, I have an unused Ostfront 41-45 Steam key I'd trade for an RO2 key.

I have a guest pass for RO2 when I just bought it now. You can have it if you want to try the game out today and see if you want to buy it.
