CAGiversary!
Feedback

Welcome to the Steam Deal Thread V4! You can find the V1 thread (Nov 2010-July 2011) here, V2 thread (July 2011 - Feb 2012) here, and V3 thread (Feb-July 2012) here. Read post #2 of this thread for Steam FAQs and more.

This is a Wiki post. Please read this
We appreciate you helping keep this thread up to date. The sales change virtually every day so no one person has the time to update them all. If you notice a game is no longer on sale, feel free to delete its line from the sale list. Of course, if you see a game is on sale, add it to the list. Make sure your changes match the thread's format! For example, every game that's on sale is part of an unordered list. When adding a game to the list, copy an existing line and update the link, title, and prices. That way, the format stays correct. Do not list percentages off! We list the original price and the sale price here. If you have any suggestions for major changes to the post/thread, PM me (EastX) about them.
for instructions on updating the thread.

Preorder Deals - Updated 8/9
Group Buys - Updated 8/14

Several multiplayer Steam games are available in 2-packs or 4-packs. These packs offer a discount over buying multiple copies of a game separately. We also maintain group buy trade threads for several games, so please use those threads if you're interested in setting up a group buy.

Free Stuff - Updated 4/3

There are several free games and mods on Steam. These are a few choice ones; you can find a full list here. Note that free games are not permanently attached to your Steam account like actual purchases would be. You'll need to manually download a game again from the website if you uninstall it.

Steam around CAG

If you are interested in joining the Steam CAG Community or participating in a trade or group buy with fellow Cheap Ass Gamers, please do so in the dedicated threads and not in the deal discussion thread. In the dedicated threads you will find CAGers with the same specialized interest who will be much quicker (and happier) to respond than in the Deals thread.

Past Special Sales

Visit www.steamgamesales.com to check previous sale prices on Steam games. We do keep track of some older sales here though:

Steam Retail Key List

What is a CD key and where can I find it?

https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=7480-WUSF-3601

The CD Key is a serial number with a combination of 13, 18, or 25 letters and numbers - it can be found on a sticker inside your game's case or printed on the game's quick reference card.
The CD Key acts as your proof of purchase for the game - Steam Support may ask for it if you need to establish your ownership of an account. It is recommended that you keep your CD Key in a safe place to ensure the security of your account.
i miss the days when i'd gladly spend a month or two (or more) playing the same game. wasteland comes to mind, bard's tale, ultimas... those days are now long gone. i often find myself rushing through games now, or spending more time acquiring them then playing them. it's almost like the backlog is more important than the games, which is kinda sad.

demon souls and dark souls being the rare exception, where i want to learn every last little thing. a few other standouts, like red dead redemption, and rouge-likes like nethack or crawl.
Yeah, it seems like that for me too. I think the most memorial game where I was sad the ending was near for me was Planescape: Torment. I enjoyed it so much where I didn't want the game to end.

Even Baldur's Gate just seemed to drag on for me and I have yet to finish DA:O neither...
is it too late to post my haul from the summer sale? yes/no? who am I kidding no one cares so here it goes:

ARMA II Combined Operations
Alan Wake Franchise pack
Fallout New Vegas: Ultimate Edition
The Witcher
The Witcher 2
Star Wars Knight of the Old Republic
Quantum Conundrum (got it from Amazon)
Sword & Soldiers HD
Dear Esther
Botanicula
Trine 2
Toy Soldiers
Wrath of the Lamb DLC
Indie Game The Movie
Assassin's Creed Revelations
Max Payne 3 (got it from Amazon)
Mirror's Edge
Prince of Persia
Prince of Persia The Forgotten Sands
F.E.A.R. 3

Total came to about $152.21 that was 3 times more than I had originally planned to spend but you know how these things tend to go, I know some of you guys will relate.
I can certainly relate. I have yet to work up my guts to check how much I spent (or rather, overspent! :hot:)
One small cool thing is that if you buy IndieRoyale bundles with the same email you register for Desura with, the keys will automagically be linked with your Desura account, no fuss, no muss.
Yeah, I noticed that. It's a small but nice bonus.

I saw this and was thiiiiiiiiis close to buying it and springing it on you poor people. But all the reviews and the site forum say it's broken pretty much to unplayability. It's one thing for a game to be hilariously bad, it's another for it to just be broken.
Yes that would be it and it's kind of a trainwreck. You know how I thought Coconut Queen would be bad but it was really good? Yeah, well not so much here.

It's kind of fun in a really cheesy OMG Seriously I am actually playing this? sort of way though.

Apparently, besides the panda tossing chickens around you have to make powered eggs. Or something.

Oh and the mascot pig cries when you exit out of the game.
I actually have Farm Frenzy on my iPad and am ashamed to admit how much time I spent playing it. I always got really mad when the bears and lions and all dropped down and started throwing around my livestock. I needed those chickens to make eggs to make powdered eggs to make cookies to make cakes to make MEGA CAKES!!!!!
Odd question, but was it you?

It seems that when Indie Royale created its login system to view all bundles, creating one for myself also created a Desura account. I ran into the same thing just now where the name "DPsycho" was unavailable, then entered my email address and clicked that I lost my password just to see. It emailed me. Turned out my account already existed and I just had to look up my Indie Royale password to sign in.
I guess it's possible. What I did was go to register on their site, then when I put in my e-mail it said it was already in use. So I had them re-send the PW and it was for a username like jimbodan53562527 or something so I went into my profile and tried to change the username to jimbodan and it said it was already taken. I clicked on the guys profile and it said it was created July 17th 2012.

I am curious, whats everyone's biggest regret of the sale. By this I mean which game are you sad you didn't get when it went on sale. For me its shoot many robots. I was on the fence then it went off sale before I could decide and ultimately I wish I'd gotten it.
Hey folks I have two coupons in my inventory I will never use. They are the SS3 and Trine 2 75% off joints if anyone wants the for FREE they can have them. Just hollar at me on Steam and they are yours. Just trying to clean out my inventory and have almost gotten back to zero in there. So help me clean it out thanks.
I also have a SS3 coupon for 75% off, won a 75% off trine 2 but was never sent it :(. Anyone want the SS3 coupon, pm me on Steam or here.
Fish Tycoon isn't a surprise. It's just crap. It's midly entertaining crap, but it's crap nonetheless.

It's like similar Facebook fish-raising simulations, only more poorly done.

And I"m still playing it, for some reason.
So it's a bunch of carp crap?

Probably Ys: Origin. Thought I'd have another shot at it, but that didn't happen. I'm hoping Xseed adds a few more titles and has a bundle for the Winter sale; that would really make up for my indecision on this one.

I don't have any real regrets. I was on the fence about QUBE and Arma II but I still haven't finished Quantum Conundrum so I don't know that I need another physics puzzler and I'm certain I don't need a multi-player game to sink my time into and rage at when I get wtf-sniped from across the map by someone with infinitely more skill and interest than me.

My main one was Ys Origins, I thought it would go lower, but it didn't. Then after I found out that it wouldn't go lower, I waited for another sale. As many of you know, it came in as a choice for a community vote, but placed dead last and KOTOR won. WTF, especially because that game already went on sale at least twice before.

I actually kind of regret not getting a number of games, but I was trying to keep my total low, so I guess that worked out. :p

Also, is there a messaging feature on steam? Like other than the IM-type of messaging they have now, more like an e-mail messaging feature?

My biggest regret was fretting about it during my weekend vacation from the 12th through the 16th. In the end, I only entirely missed a few flash deals that didn't interest me anyway and still voted enough times to get the complete (useless) badge.

When it comes down to the purchases, I'm pleased with what I took away from it. There are things I passed on because I wished they were cheaper, but I'm not sitting here now dying to play any of those.

Regret? Hmmmm, nothing really jumped at me too much. Maybe the Kill the Fuhrer DLC for Sniper Elite V2, but by the time I realized I was loving the game, it wasn't discounted too steeply. Maybe SEV1 or the Sniper: Ghost Warrior bundle, but I have a ton of games to scratch that itch so I might just dig into my backlog.

Probably Rayman Origins. It was like $10 or $15, right? But I knew that I might not get to play it right away, so I'm mostly okay with that. Rochard is giving me my platformer fix right now.
Anyway, I ordered a pizza and am trying out Farm Frenzy: Pizza Party.
Method video game playing goes down some very questionable roads when you get to the GTA or Saints Row series.

Anno 2070, and Heroes of Might and Magic 6 both games I wanted, really wanted in Anno 2070's case, but because of the DRM I just couldn't do it no matter how much I wish I could be playing a fun builder/trader like Anno or tactical strategy in Heroes I just can't willingly support it

No really big regrets on missed games since I ended up spending so much anyway. I guess if I had to pick something it would be KOTOR. I played it on the XBOX a long time ago and I had some glitch where it wouldn't let me into some cave or something to continue the story so I never finished it.
I am curious, whats everyone's biggest regret of the sale.
I missed a lot because I was on vacation until 2 days before the sale ended. Mainly I wish I would have got that Warhammer dawn of war pack and got some gifts of dungeon defenders to send to friends. I actually didn't go back and read about everything I missed since it would make me sad.

No real regrets here. Closest thing is ArmaII, but 40% wasn't enough so I can't say I truly regret it. Then again, to be fair... I got $300+ worth of stuff I've had on the wishlist forever. /facepalm
FYI someone in the other thread said the $6 Steamworks Rage on Newegg is the Anarchy Edition with pre-order bonuses. I don't think you can get these normally if you buy it on Steam, can you?

*Edit: Apparently it comes with the extra Wasteland Sewer Mission too.
*Edit2: People on the Rage Steam forums are saying no, the version you buy at Steam does not have the AE DLC and you can't buy them separately there either, you can only get it from the retail edition. http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2815040

I got Anarchy Edition when I bought a key from gamefly.com downloads about 2 months ago. It wasn't advertised that way, nice surprise.

You may want to check the trade forum there are quite a few people trying to get rid of Shoot Many Robots copies they bought as a 4 pack. Most are still selling them for 1.88. gxer2002 just posted he has one he will sell not long ago. http://www.cheapassgamer.com/forums/showthread.php?t=279563&page=447Link

I wouldn't really say regret, but I was on the fence for both Anno 2070 and Arma II.
I decided I really couldn't afford them with the other stuff I'd already gotten though. And hell, looks like DayZ is going to paid standalone game in a few months anyway. Gamefly
One reason I like purchasing from Steam is because Raptr will automatically add it to my game list. Wish it would do that for other sites (Amazon, GMG, GG, etc).
never heard of raptr before; it seems like it tracks achievements/trophies across platforms and unifies a gamer rating, plus keeps inventory? is that a fair assessment?

Either Dungeons of Dredmor or the Warhammer Dawn of War pack... and Coconut Queen.... just couldn't pull the trigger.

either alan wake or back to the future, but i probably wouldn't have gotten to either one between now and the winter sale anyway and they'll probably be the same price or lower then. hard to have regrets with so many brawny gents around :bouncy:

I'm new to steam and getting back into PC gaming so excuse my lack of knowledge, but I was hoping someone could help me out. I'm thinking of buying Dirt 2 on sale for $5, but it has achievements for GFWL and not steam. If I buy it on steam will it have the GFWL cheves or just nothing? Also, can I use mods/skins in the steam version of a game like this or L4D2 or Max Payne 2? Thanks?
It actually pulled up a bunch of stuff for me, mostly Steam indie games but also some bigger games that have strong modding communities on ModDB (which is a sister site of Desura).
Yea, that's one of the great things about Desura. Mods become a breeze, like the Circle of Eight mod for The Temple of Elemental Evil.

RE: regrets --

I sorely regret not getting KOTOR.

the good news is that KOTOR comes up at $2.49 all the time and you (presumably) have plenty to occupy your time until then!

Mine would definitely be passing up Red Orchestra 2, I wanted to wait until the last day in hopes of a recap, and I ended up missing the game I wanted and being disappointed by the last day.

It'll be on sale again soon. No worries.

I was reading about this as well & am glad I held off. I really don't know if I would end up hating Dayz after a few hours (some of the videos I've seen make me think that is very possible) - but there is something about it that calls to me ... dunno why. A lower cost stand alone would allow me to check it out without the fear of too much buyer's remorse.

Only minor regret I can think of at the moment is not picking up the Morrowind GOTY edition when it was 75% off. I already own the main game but it would have been nice to have it on Steam plus the extras.

I will say Desura has a corner on the modding scene. It still feels imature in it's implementation, and it's still hard as hell to find what you are looking for (really, how hard is it to just show the mods that apply to the games I already own??). If Steam took up being able to add mods easily, a service like Desura would stay niche. But as of right now, they aren't competing with Steam price or sales wise, so they should go full force with what's unique about their service, effortless modding capability. Concentrate on that.

Thanks again to clonesniper666 for Legend Of Grimrock. I can't believe my luck winning that after actually suggesting it as a giveaway.

I wish they'd discount DiRT 3 along with DiRT 2. It's way higher than it should be and other sites have had it for pennies on the dollar.

I feel pretty good about what I walked away on. I do want Ys Origin, for instance, but I think a few more bucks off the top would suit me better.

Shoot Many Robots is pretty fun. I picked that up during the sale and it was pretty much what I'd hoped it would be: a Contra-style side scrolling shooter with some leveling-up RPG elements. I've put in an hour with it so far and have had a pretty good time.

That trailer wasn't completely like the style of love, but I do have a soft spot in my heart for trailers in which you watch the back of a character run through all the various environments. it gives off the impression that you will do the same thing over and over again, case in point:

My biggest regret was not buying more Secrets of the Magic Crystals so I could spread even more joy to other CAGs.

Playing FEAR 3 which I bought from the summer sale at the moment. I have some difficulty getting into it. I keep wanting to play like Rainbow Six style ie. dodge and tactical. But apparently this is a game that encourage run and gun.

I have no problem with run and gun if it is set in a sci-fi setting (e.g. Halo, Doom) that everyone has armour/personal shield. But in FEAR 3 the setting the guy (ok, one guy out of the two) is a human? My mind has a hard time accepting he can soak up bullets ...

Anyone else has this problem when they play FPS like this? Or is it just me?

If I had to really pick ones, one would be not getting Ys: Origins the first time it was on sale, and the second thing would be buying Toy Soldiers now. Now to be fair I wanted Toy Soldiers and it's an awesome game (played some at my gf's), but they said they are adding Steamworks to it (uses GFWL currently) so I will wait till they add in Steamworks to play it. Could of waited till the winter sale probably to get Toy Soldiers.

I kinda wished I had gotten DiRT, DiRT 2 and the new Jagged Alliance game, but now one is back to 75% off already! I've already mastered the DiRT series on 360, but I can never get enough of good rally games and now I have a PC that can play most stuff and pretty much anything once I upgrade the video card and power supply. Plus, both DiRTs apparently have a strong online following on pc as they are often in the top played online stats for GFWL. I really wanted to support the new Jagged Alliance game, but all the reviews did not bode well as the shortcomings were all things that I had an issue with and I couldn't justify even a $10 purchase for it with my backlog.

Motoki, I'm glad you're playing FF: Pizza Party. It might not be as good as CQ, but we're getting some laughs out of it. I have one more copy but havn't added it to my account yet. I'm a bit scared.

I don't have too many regrets for not buying from the sale. I think my nuts buying spree kind of precludes that. I suppose I should give in an go and post my haul. Still afraid to look. 8-[

I suppose maybe I regret not buying a few more Coconut Queens for the road.

I know what I regret buying. It starts with a Jade and ends with an Empire. :bomb:
If I had to really pick ones, one would be not getting Ys: Origins the first time it was on sale, and the second thing would be buying Toy Soldiers now. Now to be fair I wanted Toy Soldiers and it's an awesome game (played some at my gf's), but they said they are adding Steamworks to it (uses GFWL currently) so I will wait till they add in Steamworks to play it. Could of waited till the winter sale probably to get Toy Soldiers.
Toy Soldiers is maybe one I kinda regret not getting but I am sure there will be other chances.

And btw someone mentioned GFWL and wondered if those GFWL games on Steam had different achievements, no they never do. The crappy developers and publishers who use GFWL just shovel it on over to Steam like that. I think Toy Soldiers is going to be the first game in the world that actually lets you choose GFWL (if you are insane) or Steamworks but all the others are just always going to be GFWL no matter where you get them.
Doesn't Origin provide this service without the annoyance of having to click any buttons? :D
Sure, but you have to first sell your soul to Satan, Adolf Hitler's ghost, Doctor Evil and the Night Mother.

As I post this a Sims banner ad is playing above. EA is watching.
Method video game playing goes down some very questionable roads when you get to the GTA or Saints Row series.
You know, I was calling around car dealerships inquiring into a panda shaped jeep and the funniest thing happened. The phone kept disconnecting on me.
Anno 2070, and Heroes of Might and Magic 6 both games I wanted, really wanted in Anno 2070's case, but because of the DRM I just couldn't do it no matter how much I wish I could be playing a fun builder/trader like Anno or tactical strategy in Heroes I just can't willingly support it
Ubisoft is pretty high up on my publisher kuso-list. They love love love crappy DRM. The more draconian and obnoxious it is, the more they love it! I want both games but have been holding out for the same reasons. I don't know, maybe 6 years from now when they finally figure everyone on the planet who gives a damn enough to pirate it has already done so and remove the DRM I might grab them. *sigh*

Think of it this way
they are both Alma's sons IIRC

Hope that helps
I am curious, whats everyone's biggest regret of the sale. By this I mean which game are you sad you didn't get when it went on sale. For me its shoot many robots. I was on the fence then it went off sale before I could decide and ultimately I wish I'd gotten it.
Probably Ys, and also picking SRTT early. But Ys was for the best, it wasnt 75% material and if you dont control yourself on that everything goes to hell.
