CAGiversary!
Feedback

Welcome to the Steam Deal Thread V4! You can find the V1 thread (Nov 2010-July 2011) here, V2 thread (July 2011 - Feb 2012) here, and V3 thread (Feb-July 2012) here. Read post #2 of this thread for Steam FAQs and more.

This is a Wiki post. Please read this
We appreciate you helping keep this thread up to date. The sales change virtually every day so no one person has the time to update them all. If you notice a game is no longer on sale, feel free to delete its line from the sale list. Of course, if you see a game is on sale, add it to the list. Make sure your changes match the thread's format! For example, every game that's on sale is part of an unordered list. When adding a game to the list, copy an existing line and update the link, title, and prices. That way, the format stays correct. Do not list percentages off! We list the original price and the sale price here. If you have any suggestions for major changes to the post/thread, PM me (EastX) about them.
for instructions on updating the thread.

Preorder Deals - Updated 8/9
Group Buys - Updated 8/14

Several multiplayer Steam games are available in 2-packs or 4-packs. These packs offer a discount over buying multiple copies of a game separately. We also maintain group buy trade threads for several games, so please use those threads if you're interested in setting up a group buy.

Free Stuff - Updated 4/3

There are several free games and mods on Steam. These are a few choice ones; you can find a full list here. Note that free games are not permanently attached to your Steam account like actual purchases would be. You'll need to manually download a game again from the website if you uninstall it.

Steam around CAG

If you are interested in joining the Steam CAG Community or participating in a trade or group buy with fellow Cheap Ass Gamers, please do so in the dedicated threads and not in the deal discussion thread. In the dedicated threads you will find CAGers with the same specialized interest who will be much quicker (and happier) to respond than in the Deals thread.

Past Special Sales

Visit www.steamgamesales.com to check previous sale prices on Steam games. We do keep track of some older sales here though:

Steam Retail Key List

What is a CD key and where can I find it?

https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=7480-WUSF-3601

The CD Key is a serial number with a combination of 13, 18, or 25 letters and numbers - it can be found on a sticker inside your game's case or printed on the game's quick reference card.
The CD Key acts as your proof of purchase for the game - Steam Support may ask for it if you need to establish your ownership of an account. It is recommended that you keep your CD Key in a safe place to ensure the security of your account.

Sharpeone, I am calling you out for being the classless piece of crap that you are. I do a CAG only Steamgifts giveaway, worth $350, and you are trying to sell it.

After reading the FAQ a little clearer, I would like to revise this. The one thing that predominantly sucks about SG is that people can't "call each other out" about winning a gift they don't redeem. It's ridiculous really, since any post you make about someone not redeeming a gift is considered calling that person out, and you face a suspension. Travathian received a suspension after giving away nearly $300 worth of content. He wanted to make it clear that this guy is an ass and should be punished, yet he gets punishment for his statement. That's absurd and clearly shows that Raiden has no more morality than sharpeone. The internet, it's just full of assholes. Cultivate goodness in your lives, because ridiculous stuff like this is just useless.

Oh yeah, that Douche. I thought it was probably him. It looks like he was banned. I went back to see an exchange that CheapLikeAFox & he had a week ago and all of his posts are gone. I did a search for post by JD2 and there are none on CAG at all. All record of him has been wiped from the site.
The FAQ states that you have 7 days from the win to activate the gifts. You should be safe because the database SG gets their game list for sync from doesn't contain the Saints Row DLCs.
7 days, eh? Looks like I added LoG just in time. It was a week ago that I won it. Thanks for the head's up.
You know what sucks ass? The ban-happy Raiden, elitist piece of shit he is, actually suspended travathian for his scathingly accurate calling out of sharpeone. Travathian didn't do anything wrong himself, except for posting an explicit, inflammatory message to this guy, who is undoubtedly a douche for winning the bundle and trying to sell it afterwards.

I guess I can see why he punished both parties, being a moderator, but some punishments aren't entirely just when logic is applied to the situation.
Like all of us here, I side with travathian and think that what sharpeone did was a dick move. But travathian's post was a little bit over the top. I understand his rage, but...well I mean, look at his post. I don't think he should be banned for it, but he should have some sort of punishment for it. A temporary suspension, perhaps?
A shame this game never made it to steam
I've seen reviews and all of Unepic but that video just convinced me into picking up the game. Thanks for sharing.
Ys Origin is really good^^ Are there any more pc releases other than Origin and Oat to Fe...something? Could anyone persuade me into buying Indie Day V pack? Basically, the Ys game in that pack alone is worth $5, question is rest of the pack worth $5?
Gemini Rue and Greed Corp are both pretty fun. Gemini if you enjoy old school adventure games. Greed Corp if you enjoy mild strategy.

That said, you can probably pick them up for $1 or $2 each via the trade forum as they've both been part of bundles before, so...not sure if that's entirely worth the extra $5 unless you just want an easy way to pick them all up.

Most "bans" are only temporary. I think travathian was far too explicit and out of line in that thread, but hopefully his suspension will be over soon.

This is by far the most retarded rule on steamgifts. A couple of people actually interpret "calling out" as "trying to explain the rules to someone." For example, if a user tries to give a beta key out in a giveaway (for example Ravaged or Shoot More Robots) and you post a message to the extent of "beta keys are not allowed on steamgifts, please read the FAQ," someone will undoubtedly report you. Basically, there's no way of effectively informing rule-breakers of the rules, because trying to do so is a reportable offense.

I just read the thread. That's pretty funny. It is kind of sad to read that people cannot distinguish between informing and calling out. Interesting.

I swear it's like elementary school.

1: I'm telling the teacher on you!
2: Oh yeah!? Well I'm gonna tattle on you!
Mod: Okay, you're both in trouble. I'm the teacher and I don't care to find out what's going on, so you're both expelled. Time to go to my other job at Gamestop.

I'm actually UN-suspended at SteamGifts now, after being suspended 3 times in 2 days. I talked with the head mod in chat, gave him the link to the comment thread with the 2 support guys threatening me, he said he'd read it either tonight, or tomorrow, but I don't expect anything to come of it. The whole atmosphere/attitude over there sucks badly.

cg is actually a pretty cool guy. I've talked with him in chat before and he seems to be the most level headed of the mods, considering that he's the one that created steamgifts. It's unfortunate that he chose to promote some people with anger/power issues to mods.

Ain't that the truth. Havn't even been there that long but I'm already over it, I rather not play games then have to endure some of the crap I see on that site. Oh well I suppose free is free, although I'm sure the site owner makes bank off of the ads that run on his site...oh wait -enables adblocker- FU! lol

Seriously. Steamgifts has got to have one of the worst communities on the web. I just stick to entering/creating giveaways and post the obligatory copy/pasted "Thanks" into what I've entered and leave it at that.
Its bad because it just attracts loads of kids trying to get free stuff
Which I can understand, my family couldn't always afford the newest games in fact there was a period of time where all I did was jump from one demo to another, back when F2P games weren't really popular. But I like to think I was a nice kid with normal aspirations, this whole generation of trolls and self-entitled runts is just too much for me at times. I miss the days of when internet only meant trying to stay up late enough so I could start our shitty dial-up to play Phantasy Star Online on the Dreamcast....ahh memories.

I can't wait for the cag random number generator to launch so I can give away my extra games that way.

On a different note, Dungeons of Dredmor Conquest of the Wizardlands is said to be released today, can't wait.
so I can give away my extra games that way.

Just noticed The Desmond Debacle was released for Quantum Conundrum. I have the season pass so it downloaded when it was released. Has anyone had a chance to try it? I will probably give it a try later today after work but I wanted to get some opinions on it anyway.

Ooh, I missed drama. I'm 2/2 on dealing with people who turn out to be jerks in this thread (bought and sold some games to sharpeone)!

They need to put Gemini Rue and Lone Survivor in the same bundle. Gonna let my mind subconsciously decide if I'll get Indie Bundle I later today after work. I had some regret passing it during the Summer Sale. Now that it's back, I'm somewhat happy. I might end up being both just because it's a solid deal.

Damn you, Steam, for your great deals. I already bought a lot during the Summer Sale (as this was my first Steam sale).

And I know your reply is addressed to someone else, but thanks for posting the Steam Trade thread. I didn't know that existed.

I picked up Gemini Rue in the Indie Adventure bundle a few months ago. I need to play that as it seems I hear only good things.

In most cases, I don't care for the calling out personally, though I certainly also don't think it deserves a banning. There was a lot 'Reported!' going on over there for a long time though I suppose it was something different than Control V 'thanks' ad nauseam.

Travathian I do feel was justified even if he went a bit far in his expression. Considering I've seen Steamgifts mods express similar levels of anger, I have a difficult time siding with them on this. The moderation there ranges from bad to abusive and the owner just sticks his head in the sand over it. It's a sad place.

As for informing people, even gently, that they are break the rules I really don't think it is a good idea to do publicly there, not only to protect yourself from being banned but also the person you are informing. If someone seems to be well meaning and truly didn't know any better calling public attention to their breaking the rules is not a good idea given the capricious and abusive nature of the mods. Even if you don't report it someone else may or a mod might see it. I don't trust them not to snoop on private giveaways either.

Steamgifts, or better yet Steam, really needs a PM system but if it's a CAG someone sees over there breaking the rules I would say try to PM them here to inform them instead. Calling attention to it there puts yourself and that person even if you both are well meaning at risk.
It's currently in the Indie Royale bundle for about $6 with a bunch of other games. I picked it up, but haven't gotten to play it yet.
I was in the middle of Alan Wake in 3D ... just thought I'd give it a "try" ... now I can't stop playing it. It's on my main gaming PC and it's on my laptop, I created a batch file to copy and paste the save game(s) to a usb flash drive. I'd buy it again just for steam achievements.

here's the code if anyone's interested, I'm using the Desura version, pretty simple stuff. copy and save into a plain text file in notepad and save as name.bat, it'll only overwrite older savegames. If you're not using the Desura version you'll have to edit the path between the quotation marks.

to copy to flashdrive location:

xcopy "C:\Program Files (x86)\Desura\Common\Unepic\save\*.sav" /d /y

to paste to harddrive location:

xcopy "*.sav" "C:\Program Files (x86)\Desura\Common\Unepic\save\" /d /y

You can change "*.sav" to the specific savegame you want, if for some reason you only want to copy one savegame. ie. "game_0.sav"

and I made a profile in joytokey that adds decent 360 controller support. Right stick/left bumper are mouse/left click, dpad is 1-4, right bumper is alt-1-4, left stick is move, etc.

again, in notepad save the following as UNepic.cfg

I went against (almost) every Cheapass principle and picked up one of those 1440p Korean 27" IPS monitors last night from my local Microcenter. For those not in the know, these panels are generally the ones that barely miss the mark to be used as Apple's cinema displays and are well under half the price (this is where the Cheapassness comes in). For someone who thinks they have nothing left to upgrade in their system, I would highly consider looking into and purchasing one of these. Trine 2 and Skyrim at 1440p are both gorgeous.

Trine 2 (compressed due to Steam's screenshot handling): http://steamcommunity.com/id/genocidal/screenshot/576711581902449597

Anyone have a good recommendation for a screenshot program that plays nice with Steam?

As a follow-up to yesterday...
Grab a temp monitor for your PC. Speedfan is good and free, don't know what else is out there. Make sure your not overheating, because it could just be your machine hates it or it could be your machine is overheating. Try to rule out the overheating part, and also if it is overheating, take care of the problem asap.
...I checked my GPU temps last night and they were in the 60-70 range during play so it's not a question of the CPU or GPU overheating.

At least I know my card isn't melting, so that's a good thing. Anyway, I was just addressing the temp issue, I don't expect anyone to try to muddle through the rest of it.

Ooh, the drama llama came to visit and I missed it, darn.

Gemini Rue looks like a good game. I'll have to grab that next time it goes on sale by itself or if it shows up in a bundle of games I don't already freaking own. I'm sure all of you know how that goes :p

The worst they can do is ban me and then I'll just save money by not thinking "Hey, that's a nice price; I don't need it but someone else might like it"!

Ok, I'll also lose out on my 1:5500 chances to get a free copy of Arma II: CO.
All this Steamgifts talk makes me a bit afraid to post stuff there, at least not indie-bundled stuff.
It just makes me think a lot of bad people use the kindness of others just to get a few free games.

First off, thanks for the support from everyone who gave it.

Second, I wasn't perma-banned at SG, I believe it is just for 2 days. The ban was for 'inappropriate behavior.' And making the post I knew full well the consequences. I also posted a link to it in this thread, the piece of shit's sales thread here and over on the Steam forums, so there may be further fall out.

Third, I consider him a thief, not because he stole from me, but because he stole from all of YOU. You guys who would have gladly accepted the game, installed it, and maybe even jumped in to some multiplayer action with myself and other CAGers. I thought I took reasonable steps to avoid this, and even had Mod support for those rules, but alas, hindsight is 20/20.

Lastly, I am done talking about him here, hopefully you are too. Let the piece of shit rot in hell where he belongs, and just warn people he may try and trade with that he's a shady sleazebag.
Sonovacrap...... wish i had known about that before I started the game. Oh well, I will bookmark it and maybe they have something for Clear Sky or Pripyat because I am not restarting my game at this point. i know I am only 10 or so hours into it, but those 10 hours have been earned......
My advice would be to restart. Those 10 hours will only take maybe 5 this time, as you actually know what you are doing. It's those first few hours that are absolutely brutal because STALKER is so different from most FPS. Second, I would hate to see you get to the 20 hour mark, hit a game-ending bug, and not be able to continue. Complete has a number of bug fixes especially for SoC. Last, going through again this early may be beneficial as you might find things you missed, or take different strategies, or see things different.
For what it's worth, I've seen a bunch of horrendously annoying rabid Stalker fans claim Complete "casualizes" the Stalker experience.
I am a rabid Stalker fan, and anything that can be used to casualize Stalker is optional and you can simply disable that feature or not use it. That said, I am ok with making it a bit easier on noobs who want to pop their Stalker cherry, in the hopes they will eventually replay it on more difficult settings and without some of those options enabled.

My current (6th game) playthrough of Stalker SoC I am doing it on hardcore difficulty, I am going to shoot everyone I meet in the face, and have disabled the hotkeys for healing supplies.

I am right there with you I remember begging my Mom to get the old Playstation Magazines when we went grocery shopping as it meant a bunch of new games as they were always packed full of demo's; I could sit there all day and play the same demo level for hours and hours. In fact I can remember the first level of Syphon Filter 1 like it was just yesterday spent entire days just running out that level and tazering people :hot:. Or the demo levels of Tony Hawk and so on.

In fact the whole reason I even got into PC gaming was some random book store employee gave me a demo disk from like Maximum PC, when I asked, "Where are the games?"

My dad was/is a gamer, so I have a lot of memories from growing up of just sitting behind dad at his computer, watching him play Doom or Quake. My sister and I had one Game Boy between the two of us, so we definitely learned a lot about sharing and taking turns because of that Game Boy. My parents, after probably a year of begging, bought us a N64 but we were responsible for buying the games ourselves. It would take months to save up sometimes, but you can be sure as shit we played the hell out of each game we got. I have no idea how many hours we put into Super Mario 64 and the Mario Party games, but we certainly had the war wounds to show for it (yay blistered palms).

My dad was/is a gamer, so I have a lot of memories from growing up of just sitting behind dad at his computer, watching him play Doom or Quake.
Stop stealing my childhood!!! I quite literally did the same thing with my dad, but I also helped point out where enemies or where key cards were.

Of course I used my dad to my advantage whenever I wanted a slightly too violent game. "But Mom me and dad played Doom this can't be any worse!!".
I miss the days of when internet only meant trying to stay up late enough so I could start our shitty dial-up to play Phantasy Star Online on the Dreamcast....ahh memories.
I don't know, I don't really miss the days in which we had to wait until late at night to download things from the internet because if we tried during the day a phone call would disconnect us.

In the house I lived in when I was a teenager for some weird reason turning on the bathroom fan would kick cause the old 9600/14.4 kbps modem connection to die and you'd get kicked off of AOL or Prodigy. Of course it seemed like whenever it happened I'd be in the middle of writing a message. :censored:

My family had AOL, and I recall the hassle that program caused. So much overhead on all fronts, and AOL frequently did not allow any webpages to load. (Strangely, though, the AOL client-specific content would always load.) Place those issues on top of standard Windows 98 problems (Slow loading and frequent Blue Screen's.) and the sluggish speeds of 56k Modems.

Indeed, I don't miss the old days of the Internet, but I do miss all the Chrono Trigger and Super Mario RPG "fanpages" that existed back then.

Man, websites dedicated to 16- and 32-bit games. Now that I do miss.

Hah, I had a Hewlett Packard with a 2400 baud til I convinced my mom to buy me a 33.6kbps Cardinal modem, so Doom wouldn't lag so much when I played my friends. And a asked for 4MB of RAM to double my system memory, cause level 30 of Doom 2 was unplayable on just 4MB. I remember it costing $39.99.

Before that, my dad had an IBM and an Apple IIc that I would play games on.
Today's deal is Noitu Love 2 Devolution at 50% off ($2.49)
You know, I recall being interested in this game long before it made it to Steam. I had heard of it because I tried one of the creator's other works, Legend of Princess, which had major performance issues. Noitu Love 2 always struck me in an Alien Hominid kind of way, but I never ended up buying it straight from the creator. Perhaps, with the game being on Steam and offered for such a low price, it might be worth it.

So, CAG's, what do you guys have to say about the game?

Rollingskull luurrrves it. And..it's..INDIE.

It's cute for what it is. A fun little very fast paced retro side scrolling beat 'em up/shooter. Worth a couple of dollars if you like that sort of game but if you are out of practice for that genre be warned that you might suck severely at it, as I found out the hard way.
