Welcome to the Steam Deal Thread V5! You can find link to past threads at the bottom of this post. Read post #2 of this thread for Steam FAQs and more.

This is a Wiki post. Please read this
We appreciate you helping keep this thread up to date. The sales change virtually every day so no one person has the time to update them all. If you notice a game is no longer on sale, feel free to delete its line from the sale list. Of course, if you see a game is on sale, add it to the list. Make sure your changes match the thread's format! For example, every game that's on sale is part of an unordered list. When adding a game to the list, copy an existing line and update the link, title, and prices. That way, the format stays correct. Do not list percentages off! We list the original price and the sale price here. If you have any suggestions for major changes to the post/thread, PM me (EastX) about them.
for instructions on updating the thread.

Preorder Deals - Updated 10/28
Group Buys - Updated 8/14

Several multiplayer Steam games are available in 2-packs or 4-packs. These packs offer a discount over buying multiple copies of a game separately. We also maintain group buy trade threads for several games, so please use those threads if you're interested in setting up a group buy.

Free Stuff - Updated 4/3

There are several free games and mods on Steam. These are a few choice ones; you can find a full list here. Note that free games are not permanently attached to your Steam account like actual purchases would be. You'll need to manually download a game again from the website if you uninstall it.

Steam around CAG

If you are interested in joining the Steam CAG Community or participating in a trade or group buy with fellow Cheap Ass Gamers, please do so in the dedicated threads and not in the deal discussion thread. In the dedicated threads you will find CAGers with the same specialized interest who will be much quicker (and happier) to respond than in the Deals thread.

Steam Retail Key List

What is a CD key and where can I find it?

https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=7480-WUSF-3601

The CD Key is a serial number with a combination of 13, 18, or 25 letters and numbers - it can be found on a sticker inside your game's case or printed on the game's quick reference card.
The CD Key acts as your proof of purchase for the game - Steam Support may ask for it if you need to establish your ownership of an account. It is recommended that you keep your CD Key in a safe place to ensure the security of your account.

Got an email saying that all of the Painkiller games were on sale in the Indie Gala store. 50% off but...

I hate the idea of the "Gala Store" and this is why I never buy anything from there: obviously, Indie Gala has keys for these games which means they'll most likely end up in one of their bundles.

Anyway, not a (terrible) price for those wanting to play the game now so I thought I'd share. Otherwise, wait til it's in an Indie Gala bundle :)

I think they said and I could be wrong on this, that games in the gala store that haven't been in a bundle, won't be in one. Now they change their minds on things quite a bit so take that for what it's worth.

Even with that, it's only 50% off. I believe the Painkiller pack on steam which includes Painkiller: Black Edition has been 75% off before, but I could be wrong.

Also, whatever happened to you being able to spend "Gala Points" on stuff on their store? I guess it's just for certain things. I'd probably bite if the discount were steeper or of I could use these mythical galapoints.

Indie Gala store games will not be in THEIR bundles, but could always show up in other bundles, most likely Groupees.

Also, they have Gala points but they are worthless. For example, if they discount a game in the store, they then reduce or eliminate the Gala Point discount on that game. So the overall effect makes them useless.

Also, Tony from Amazon just posted this:

Our Deal of the Week next week is stupid awesome.

$9.99 for a bundle with:

Deus Ex Human Revolution Augmented Edition + DLC
Supreme Commander 2
Hitman Blood Money
The Last Remnant
Just Cause
Just Cause 2
Quantum Conundrum

I believe these are all Steam?

Crazy stoopid deal!

Wait, $10 for ALL THAT? Good god man, what are they doing, giving the store away? Jesus.

Sadly, I have everything I'd want out of that bundle, so I'm going to have to pass. But damn, $10 is worth Deus Ex alone. The rest is just gravy.

On that upcoming amazon pack, unfortunately I own all of those but that is an incredible deal.

Seeing as how KOA:R will probably never go on sale on steam again, http://www.gamersgate.com/DDB-KOARC/kingdoms-of-amalur-reckoning-collection-bundle this is quite a good price for it. Includes the dlc as well. Especially if you include the 15% discount that I'm still cross with IGN for never giving me.

Basically, can anyone convince me NOT to grab this. sunghost has graciously volunteered to assist me with the IGN discount should I decide to grab the game.

Just finished Walking Dead episode 4.

Minor spoilers ahead (but no story-related spoilers):

So far I feel each episode had a distinct feel... episode 1 provided introduction and insight into the characters, episode 2 felt like a horror movie, and episode 3 felt like a road trip with brief breaks to tug at your heart. Episode 4 doesn't seem as distinct, though to me it's a little mix of 1 and 3: lots of characters come and go, but the story also breaks for some soft moments as well. However, I do feel that it was MUCH more exciting than the previous episode (even though it resorted to jump scares a few too many times).

Overall I really liked this episode. Unlike ep3, I had trouble putting the controller down due to so many unknown quantities and scenarios I was thrust in. I can't wait for the last episode now!!!

Wow, hard to believe you had any issues with Ep. 3.

3 was just so shocking and bleak to me. Definitely hit hard. 3 really felt like the depressing spirit of the book/show.

Oh don't get me wrong, I enjoyed ep 3 as well! :)
I think things got really slow by the time they got to the train and beyond, and I started to lose my anticipation around then. I played through it twice, and each time I got bored when I got to the train. Well, except for that "big moment". I feel ep 4 kept a more consistent mood throughout.

Hey guys, have a big question involving the new X-Com released yesterday and would like an answer. I'm not getting an answer on Polygon's review of it, so figured I'd copy + paste it in here.

The original X-Com UFO Defense was essentially random in its mission structure. Every game was different, in terms of enemy locations, attacks, etc. The only thing that remained constant was the final mission. This was a huge factor in what makes the original so damn replayable.

When they started making a new X-Com, i was worried they may scrap that in favor of a more common strategy motif, with set missions telling the story they (the devs) wanted to tell. So I guess what i’m asking is, does this new X-Com still generate all your missions on the fly? Will each experience (each time playing the campaign, for example) still be different? (With the exceptions of beginning and end)
Thanks in advance for any answers. =)

My thanks to any CAGs who can answer this.

Its a mix of the both in this one. There are missions that are part of the campaign, which you HAVE to do. But, its up to you when you want to do them. Currently, Im at a point where I have to get my engineers to make an item called the Skeleton Key. Then, I have to go to the world view and choose the campaign mission in order to progress with the campaign. However, theres no time limit or anything forcing you to do the mission. You can do it whenever you feel like it. In the meantime, you can keep searching the globe for random battles. You can do that for as long as you want.

i would love it if that bundle became an indiegala. Ive been avoiding it every time its been on sale because I KNOW I wont be playing it anytime soon. That doesnt stop me from wanting it though.

Avoid Arcania, its expansion, and Forsaken Gods like the plague. In short: you just need the 'Universe' edition. If that ever becomes an IG you could probably just put in a $1 assuming the older ones would be the entry tier. That said keys might be problematic since Nordic (formerly Jowood) doesn't own the rights to Gothic 1 individually so only way you could get it would be in a Universe bundle.

Yes, it is all random. I played a mission and half way through it I realized I forgot to bring a certain item so I reloaded the game before I went into that mission and when I went to that mission again it was a totally different map and enemies and such. The devs said there are 80 different maps and a few variations of each one, plus the enemies generated are random each time as well. For some of the "story" missions, the maps were the same type (ie in an alien base or urban area) but were totally different from one another.

I've played around 28 missions (counting story and just active scanning for abductions) so far and haven't seen the same one yet.

That really is a crazy deal. I guess it's a good thing I have a friend to help with regional pricing. Already own 5 of 7 on consoles, but will probably grab them for the PC for a couple reasons.

No, sorry, I can't. I'm actually playing through Teeth of Naros at the moment and according to Steam I've put 90 hours into this, Dead Kel, and the base game. It's a fun game with solid combat that isn't just button-mashing, an interesting story with a blend of mythological influences (mostly Celtic but several others), and probably the most flexible levelling system in the history of ARPGs. ~$15 for this kind of entertainment is a steal.
..."What are seven games that will soon make up 45% of Steamgifts?"
Better than Indie Bundle games! :p. Way better in my opinion. I already have 2 of the games on the bundle and will probably give them away there :)
Its a mix of the both in this one. (tl;dr'd)

Yes, it is all random. (Also tl;dr'd).
Thanks to both of you for responding. Kaotik, my concern wasn't with missions being different during the course of one campaign playthrough (I'd certainly expect that much!). I'm more concerned about still having the random ufo-shot-down missions, or random base raids, etc. I'd prefer as little similarity as possible in missions between different campaign playthroughs. JakeNome addressed this when he mentioned having key campaign missions that you do go along the core "plot" with.

I'll probably be getting it anyway. I'm hearing (a lot) that it did the original justice, and i'm a pretty huge fan of the original. (The demo was extremely fun too, so i have faith i'll enjoy it quite a bit!) I just would have preferred it to be extremely open ended, with your progress entirely based off what you did (Such as with its predecessor) rather than any predefined missions as JakeNome seems to indicate.

Touché

No offense to people who put up indie games. I just hate scrolling past a hundred of any singular title.

I am definitely with you, but SG people are so super cheap that you still won't see too many of these games on there I don't think. If past Amazon bundles are any indicate you will see some (maybe a lot of JC or whatever most people already have). It will still be a nice change of pace for the 100s of IG9 individual games up right now.

Yeah, seeing Worms Golf and Broken Sword games all week can get quite tiresome. For that reason I prefer giving my extra bundle keys on a group called "Bundle Leftovers", so only people that are interested in those type of games can see it :)

Oh, and I dont know if you know, but there is a browser plugin available for steamgifts, that allows you put games to a "ignore" list, and they will not appear anymore :)

:applause:

It's too bad I own all of that but wow. Amazon has really stepped it up in the last year.
Oblivion wasn't that hard. I pretty much walked through it at the default difficulty with one exception: the first Gate battle where you get swarmed with a bajillion Daedra and your NPC companions prove worthless. After the fact, I was told that gets harder the longer you wait and I did mess around quite a while before doing it. Aside from that, I went with your typical sword & board fighter with some healing magic. Once I started enchanting and spell researching, the game became laughably easy. I never cheated or used mods or glitches.

When I played Skyrim, I went with a pure mage character just for something different. Only wore robes and my only melee weapon was a dagger with a soul trap enchantment on it. I still rolled through at the default setting. I'm not complaining about it and obviously I could have jacked up the difficulty but my point is that you don't need to cheat, hack, mod, glitch etc to find a game pretty easy.
I gotta say that any ES/Fallout game is pretty manageable on normal mode if you have common sense and know how to play a video game. I felt the same way with Mass Effect 1 and 2 on normal mode; I had to ramp them up to the highest respective difficulties to feel challenged (although I admit that Insanity on ME2 was mind-numbingly impossible once or twice).

That's why there are difficulty settings on these games. Something wonderful about the ES and Fallout games is that not only can you set the difficulty up to what makes the game challenging enough for you, it's also rewarding, because it increases the amount of experience you gain per kill too. I usually play ES games on Expert (not Master) and it makes it challenging enough yet still dynamic enough that I can swing a battle-axe around and drop enemies left and right. Complaining about difficulty as a factor of how good a game is or isn't seems silly when there's an incredibly well made and intuitive difficulty setting right there.

As for whether Morrowind/Oblivion/Skyrim are good games or not... Well, that just comes down to preference. I grew up on PSX RPGs that took at LEAST 30 hours to beat, and I still always took 100+ hours in them because I did every possible side quest, found every legendary weapon, etc. I still was never satisfied though, because with as much freedom as a game like FFIX could give you, it was still holding your hand throughout the game. I don't like my hand being held. I don't like linearity unless the storyline is INCREDIBLE (my favorite game is a split between Chrono Cross and Final Fantasy Tactics), otherwise I feel like I'm just doing a series of chores till I reach the final boss and toss the game aside, never to play again.

There's replay value to the ES games that other games simply don't have. I can go anywhere and do anything, and I'm not bogged down by a story that I might not particularly enjoy. I like making multiple characters with completely different skill sets, morals, personalities, etc. There's so much variety that I have to chuckle when people say the games are too repetitive, or easy, or have a crappy story, because the games do what other games just don't. They immerse the player with history and lore and all those other things that make up fantasy world, and they give you choices. Not many games do that.

But hey, it's all preference. I don't hate linear RPGs either, but I'm biased towards really good, classic RPGs. Let's just say I couldn't get far through FFXIII without getting extremely bored.
Wednesday annoyance: even if I had XCOM (I don't (yet (still time for willpower to fail me))), I can't play it until Friday.

Grrrr.
Let it fail.

The game is amazing.

Hi praise indeed. I gave it an hour last night and was taken right back to the original. It plays identically, but with updated graphics and cutscenes. I'm curious about repetitiveness, we'll see.
It's definitely just the multiplayer for the most part. Rarely have I seen people who switch to the new iteration ever touch the SP, I used to do both but now its really just for the MP.
I still do both SP and MP.

Its weird hearing someone doesn't like competitive MP lol, CoD is all about the MP at the end of the day.
COD series and BF3 have a robust MP, for sure.
Personally - I prefer BF3 on the MP.

EDIT:
Though, I do like Kill Confirmed (Team DM Mode) in COD: MW3.

Having only played the original X-Com and Sleeping Dogs, I say just get Sleeping Dogs instead. Much better graphics and gameplay and no weird radar system with dots telling you aliens are coming to Africa.

It looks like Train Sim 13 has been updated again, this time removing the $30 'standard' edition and keeping a $52 deluxe edition. As of this time, for me, going to the page for Train Sim standard just sends me to the deluxe edition. I had wanted to eventually get the base game but adding on a $40 dlc and $22 to the base price makes me definitely think again.

You didn't get it during the summer sale? Because I got 2012 during the summer sale and it says I already own 2013 Deluxe when I go to the page. Between this and the other like 5 Train Simulators I bought recently I don't need much else :)

According to steam i've played 17 hours already. I'd say 5-6 of those are paused moments taking care of my son. So in my 12ish hours I've been beyond pleased with the result.

The only moment of frustration for me was after a flawless mission, the next mission stopped responding to all keyboard inputs after taking a screenshot. When I loaded up my last save everything went fubar in the first mission this time, resulting in me taking 4 heavies into the next mission.

I can see some repitition in map use becoming an issue. Even with different enemy spawns, most maps play the same. Move squad a up one side, squad b up the other, meet at back center of map to finish off enemy.

I neglected to pick it up then, took too long to decide.

Yeah, I tried that but it does some "elastic" thing where it starts showing them, then sucks them away or something. Maybe it just does it for me. Anyway, it was disconcerting enough that I'm "happier" just scrolling past a million X-Blades.

The ignore feature doesn't work correctly for me either. I told it to ignore games I already owned AND I added Rome: Total War and it still showed me every single copy.

It does that because the website loads in some of the giveaways before the add-on responds. Thus is loading giveaways you blocked out and then removing them in a couple seconds. So if that it occurring for you then that should mean it is working. Unless it is removing games you didn't ignore.

Well if you ever delete or remove your browser's cookies, or is it the cache, then it will remove any games inserted into the ignore list. But if isn't working and you haven't done that then who knows. Also if you use Ccleaner regularly it will do this every single time unless you tell it to ignore the browser's stuff.

The steamgifts greasemonkey addon is a lifesaver. If I see something I am not interested in, or 500 of something I have no desire to enter, I just hit ignore and never have to see them again.

Edit: I WISH there was an option to just have it load all the giveaways at once. I hate loading every time I scroll down. [ If there is an option for this and I have somehow missed it, please enlighten me! :) ]
