Welcome to the Steam Deal Thread V5! You can find link to past threads at the bottom of this post. Read post #2 of this thread for Steam FAQs and more.

This is a Wiki post. Please read this
We appreciate you helping keep this thread up to date. The sales change virtually every day so no one person has the time to update them all. If you notice a game is no longer on sale, feel free to delete its line from the sale list. Of course, if you see a game is on sale, add it to the list. Make sure your changes match the thread's format! For example, every game that's on sale is part of an unordered list. When adding a game to the list, copy an existing line and update the link, title, and prices. That way, the format stays correct. Do not list percentages off! We list the original price and the sale price here. If you have any suggestions for major changes to the post/thread, PM me (EastX) about them.
for instructions on updating the thread.

Preorder Deals - Updated 10/28
Group Buys - Updated 8/14

Several multiplayer Steam games are available in 2-packs or 4-packs. These packs offer a discount over buying multiple copies of a game separately. We also maintain group buy trade threads for several games, so please use those threads if you're interested in setting up a group buy.

Free Stuff - Updated 4/3

There are several free games and mods on Steam. These are a few choice ones; you can find a full list here. Note that free games are not permanently attached to your Steam account like actual purchases would be. You'll need to manually download a game again from the website if you uninstall it.

Steam around CAG

If you are interested in joining the Steam CAG Community or participating in a trade or group buy with fellow Cheap Ass Gamers, please do so in the dedicated threads and not in the deal discussion thread. In the dedicated threads you will find CAGers with the same specialized interest who will be much quicker (and happier) to respond than in the Deals thread.

Steam Retail Key List

What is a CD key and where can I find it?

https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=7480-WUSF-3601

The CD Key is a serial number with a combination of 13, 18, or 25 letters and numbers - it can be found on a sticker inside your game's case or printed on the game's quick reference card.
The CD Key acts as your proof of purchase for the game - Steam Support may ask for it if you need to establish your ownership of an account. It is recommended that you keep your CD Key in a safe place to ensure the security of your account.
So, I just picked up Half Life 2, Half Life 2 Episode 1 and 2, and Portal 2 for a grand total of $9.16 after 20% off coupon. Can I get a hell yea!
Hell yea! Got the same stuff for the same price but with CS:S swapped for Portal 2. Great deal. Sold my copy of The Orange Box a while back, so was wanting to pick up HL2.

Thanks for the link M_F_A_H and advice lupe guillotine.
I'll try uninstalling/reinstalling after moving my steam apps...

Edit: Tried the "reg delete HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Valve\Steam\Beta" thing and it seemed to work... I had to log in again, but then got a message that it could't connect to steam network.
Tried again and it seems ok.. except I've lost layout preferences.. and most of my games are "updating" no big deal
As others have said earlier, the current Gen of MtG Plainswalker games consist of being able to play the card game against AI or Human opponents using preconstructed decks that can only be tweaked slightly with the substitution of additional cards that can be unlocked as you win matches. You CANNOT build any deck you want from the available cards.

I used to have that old Microprose MtG game too. I wish I hadn't given it away oh so long ago. That game was like a Heroes of Might and Magic that used MtG duels to resolve combat. You buy/earn cards along the way, and you could make any deck out of the cards you had in your inventory without restriction. Etherlords I/II was a very similar game that used a different card game mechanic.

Tempted to get the 2013 version, as I enjoyed the 2012 version quite a bit. If you don't have real people to play with, it can scratch that MtG itch without throwing you into the vast ocean (and money sink) that is MtG Online.
A HoMM style game with MTG for combat sounds pretty awesome.
Steamgifts is going crazy with Steam codes being given out from the Ubi shop in Europe. Basically it is a $10 off $10 coupon code and people are going crazy with it... Just a heads up.
Thanks, I was going crazy trying to figure out where the hell all of these copies of Mad Riders were coming from.
Now that's a skinny-ass screen
Damn, you beat me to it. I was about to comment...

Damn, that's a WIDE screen!
Thanks, I was going crazy trying to figure out where the hell all of these copies of Mad Riders were coming from.
Yeah, whenever I suddenly see a bunch of copies of a single game, I know something is up.

Use code BETATHANKS for an additional 20% off
Much obliged. Better than the LEGO pack or GTA deal for me. CS:S, all the HLF2 stuff and Portal for $10. Had the first two for Xbox but they're staples on PC.

& so is the GTA Collection gone now? I still want to hold out on that.
I've already beaten and played the hell out of GTA IV on my once working 360 so all I'm really interested in are the Episodes from LC if it really is gone
Will this be the cheaper way by buying those on Gamefly and then the remaining games from the valve complete pack on the winter sale individually rather than just buying the Complete Pack for $50? Btw will it be $50 on black friday sales?
It might be $25 again. :D This brings up another IMPORTANT STEAM SALE RULE!

If a game price is discounted pretty heavily or if the prices seems "crazy", BUY THAT MOFO FAST AS HELL!!! it's probably a GLITCH and will be CORRECTED eventually. This will then lead to pages of people pissed they missed the "glitch". ;)
Is there a reason to purchase "Half Life 2" and then both "Half Life 2: Episode 1" and "Half Life 2" Episode 2"?

I know it should be common knowledge, but I never played them before.
Yes, you can then be like the rest us that have been patiently waiting for Episode 3 since.....too damn long...:censored:
Is GTA complete worth it? I've heard bad things about the PC port. I got like half way through on 360 and loved it.. I've heard that the optimization issues are fixed. I think I might finally play through the expansions after I finish Costume Quest and Oblivion.

It's good to see another CAG that decided to play Costume Quest around the applicable holiday. I just finished the main game, and I'm currently working on the DLC scenario. (Humorously enough, the DLC scenario seems to be appropriate for the upcoming season.) So far, the game's been perfect for getting my mind off work.

Now, I just have to get my mind off my Steam backlog.

Yeah, those are basically freebie throw-ins. Lost Coast is about a twenty minute tech demo of sorts that show off the Source upgrades between HL2 and the episodes.

I had been wanting to play it for awhile and I wanted to finish it by last Wednesday but I got too busy with other things.

That's what I've heard about the DLC. Maybe, I will get through the main game and save the DLC for December...

Try to just ignore that hideously long list.

Thanks. I thought that was the case but was surprised to see them selling Deathmatch for 4.99 by itself.
you can get torchlight 2 for 15.99 with coupon code BETATHANKS at gamefly.com does anyone know if you get steam keys from them ?
Yes. I got my personal TL2 steam key from them. The only version of TL2 that isn't steam is directly from the devels IIRC. Steam will have the nice advantage of getting the Mac version when it is released.

Steam keeps giving me DOTA 2s. Is there anyone out there who doesn't yet have this? PM me a link to your Steam profile.

Is Magic 2013 a good deal? (mid-week madness $5) I just started playing Magic for the first time a week ago... I want to know if that game will get addicting like I hear the TCG is...

So are we just a PC general thread now? Or is it just stream of consciousness with content ripped from tumblr and reddit? We might need to change the title of the thread if this is the case.

I feel like everybody that posts here already knows what to expect. It's not like anyone stops in to complain about us not talking about relevant deals. At least not as often as every other thread on the deals forum.

Changing the thread title might not be a terrible idea, just for accuracy, but it's pretty much just thread regulars here when there isn't a major seasonal sale going on, so I don't know if there's much of a point.

The community warned me, but I payed no heed. Now I'm balls deep in this thing they call STEAM.

Fair warning, for those interested, come morning you will have been bested. By STEAM.

Great deals on the valve games :)

-I can't believe this is really my first post and i joined CAG in 2010! anyways I'm hoping to get more friends on steam and get an invite to the CAG steam Group :)

I've been playing through Hotline Miami this week, having bought it at launch.

It's fun and frustrating in equal measure. It's effectively a puzzle-murder-em-up, trying to work out the quickest/quietest/quirkiest way to clear a floor of victims* without getting killed.

You have 1HP. That's it. So you can't just outlast the opposition, you really need to kill them before they kill you. To quote Major Dick Winters, "Speed is the key".

I like it, but can only play 1-2 levels at a time. It reminds me of Super Meat Boy in that you'll do ever so well, die, then repeat but at a less patient pace and you'll die again, and again, and again, until eventually everything just clicks and you get that smug feeling of satisfaction about nailing everybody in quick succession.

I imagine we'll see it at 50% off sometime around Xmas so put it on your watchlist if you feel tempted. It's cheap enough that a 33% discount might even be enough for some people.

It's in my top 5 game experiences for the year. Don't let the wacky hallucinogenic graphics put you off, you'll tune out of them soon enough. It just comes down to you, the pool cue, that guy behind the door with the shotgun, and the amazing soundtrack.

Go kill somebody.

Hotline Miami is available now on STEAM.

* - if you're in a moral quandary and need motivation, they all look like gangsters and probably deserve to die for past indiscretions. Apart from Steve**, he's just an innocent bytander you just bludgeoned to death with a frying pan.

** - if it bothers you, Steve dodged a parking ticket seven years ago.

Wow.. GTA complete for $7.49, or GTA IV and Episodes from Liberty City individually at $4.99 each.

Definitely in for Episodes.
Been playing Amalur on Origin for a couple days. Gotta say, it's much better than the only other client I have experience with...which was GFWL.
Origin isn't half bad now. It's still not Steam so I will never use it for anything not EA related but I mean it's alright.

Got in on that $8 Lego Batman 2 Deal. Never played a lego game so I am excited to play this. Ok, lets be realistic here, I am excited to own it now but it will get lost in my backlog a week from now and about 2 months later I will remember oh yeah, I bought this . Like Binary Domain, Chronicles of Riddick, etc...

I don't know if this has been posted yet, but Postal 2 was Greenlit. I saw some copies on Steamgifts and read a description, it said it was a Steam key from Desura. I went to my Desura account and saw nothing, so then I clicked "Install" and after Postal 2 starts Installing/DLing you can then right click on the game in your games list and click on "View CD Key" once you do this you should get a Steam key for Postal 2 Complete! Just activated mine :)

I know lots of us got Desura keys in bundles. One of my favorite games so I don't mind having it on Desura, Steam, and Boxed :)

If you took part in the promotion to get the game on Steam, you will need to register and contact the Running With Scissors team and request your key. Here are the instructions: http://steamcommunity.com/workshop/filedetails/discussion/93000640/864950398919161255/

They cross-check your information, so don't bother trying if you didn't contribute to getting the game on Steam. I don't seem to have the game on Desura, so here you go.

EDIT: I found my Postal 2 Complete code for Desura. It was in Groupees Be Mine 3, and I hadn't activated it. Go to your Groupees accounts and copy/paste your code here, follow Fox's instructions, then redeem your CD key on Steam.

Thanks for the heads up. Redeemed mine without a hitch.

EDIT: Wait a minute. It said it activated it, but it didn't go to the usual install screen and now there's no sign of it in my library.

Cannon Fodder 3 is a tactical action game, which inherited the style and traditions of the original game. The war goes on and its scale is nearly the same as before. 500 conscripts are sent to meet their destiny. What awaits them? A general's stars or a bed of honor?
Genre: Action

Got mine! Thanks!

I see Towns is now available for purchase. This was in the first Indie Royale Alpha Collection.

I registered my copy on Desura but can't find a way to pick up the CD Key? Anybody got any ideas? I don't see a "View CD Key" option on the Desura entry.

As for the game, I enjoyed it. Will dig out my mini-synopsis in a minute.

Edit: Back in May, I said...
I went back to Towns (included in the Indie Royale Alpha Collection #1) after reading this RPS article about it; the latest patch added heroes to the game, which is what piqued my interest.

The game seems to have changed quite a bit from the rough build that came with the bundle - I seem to recall that all of the text was m a s s i v e l y s p a c e d o u t w h i c h m a d e e v e r y t h i n g h a r d t o r e a d - and I really enjoyed it. I only played some of the tutorials, and even then they don't walk you through it that well, but already I've got ideas on what I want to try when I build my town and so on.

I popped on, expecting to play for 5-10 minutes, checked the clock two hours later and realised it was 1am.

This game could be onto something.
Haven't played it much since then, obviously. Backlog yo!

I just tried the same thing. I guess we should wait a couple days or email the dev.
