Welcome to the Steam Deal Thread V5! You can find link to past threads at the bottom of this post. Read post #2 of this thread for Steam FAQs and more.

This is a Wiki post. Please read this
We appreciate you helping keep this thread up to date. The sales change virtually every day so no one person has the time to update them all. If you notice a game is no longer on sale, feel free to delete its line from the sale list. Of course, if you see a game is on sale, add it to the list. Make sure your changes match the thread's format! For example, every game that's on sale is part of an unordered list. When adding a game to the list, copy an existing line and update the link, title, and prices. That way, the format stays correct. Do not list percentages off! We list the original price and the sale price here. If you have any suggestions for major changes to the post/thread, PM me (EastX) about them.
for instructions on updating the thread.

Preorder Deals - Updated 10/28
Group Buys - Updated 8/14

Several multiplayer Steam games are available in 2-packs or 4-packs. These packs offer a discount over buying multiple copies of a game separately. We also maintain group buy trade threads for several games, so please use those threads if you're interested in setting up a group buy.

Free Stuff - Updated 4/3

There are several free games and mods on Steam. These are a few choice ones; you can find a full list here. Note that free games are not permanently attached to your Steam account like actual purchases would be. You'll need to manually download a game again from the website if you uninstall it.

Steam around CAG

If you are interested in joining the Steam CAG Community or participating in a trade or group buy with fellow Cheap Ass Gamers, please do so in the dedicated threads and not in the deal discussion thread. In the dedicated threads you will find CAGers with the same specialized interest who will be much quicker (and happier) to respond than in the Deals thread.

Steam Retail Key List

What is a CD key and where can I find it?

https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=7480-WUSF-3601

The CD Key is a serial number with a combination of 13, 18, or 25 letters and numbers - it can be found on a sticker inside your game's case or printed on the game's quick reference card.
The CD Key acts as your proof of purchase for the game - Steam Support may ask for it if you need to establish your ownership of an account. It is recommended that you keep your CD Key in a safe place to ensure the security of your account.

Titan Quest is great, but I hear it's better with Immortal Throne and the fan patch (both of which I installed to play it). The interface is a bit dated, but it's still a solid game.

Newbie status engaged. So for these bundles that offer direct downloads in addition to steam keys, does mean I can download the game for myself and give the key away as well?

Titan Quest is a very good Diablo-style game. I'm happy to have it in the bundle as it means I won't ever again have to worry about tracking down the D2D copy I bought a couple years ago. Of course, that doesn't cover my Immortal Throne copy. Oh well, no big hurry.

On the subject of backlogs, I will say this about the bundles. The nice thing is that you don't have to feel bad about putting in an hour or two and deciding a game isn't for you. I play games to enjoy them, not to get achievements. Bundles and Steam sales let me try lots of new games for cheap. If I don't like it after an hour or two, it only cost me about a buck on average, and that's a fair exchange to me.
I think my best two gaming-related purchases this year are Double Fine Adventure and Amnesia Fortnight. There's not a lot of game to play yet, but seeing behind the scenes with hours and hours of live streams and the compact 25 minute produced videos the joy to be had is high. The DFA episodes are also great to watch with a significant other who may not like gaming as much as you.

You can still get in the Amnesia Fortnight here. You'll get five prototypes at the end of the event and videos of each day. The live streams are free here.
Didn't kickstart DFA, so I don't know anything on that front, but I can definitely add my support to picking up Amnesia Fortnight. The daily videos they've been releasing have been absolutely fascinating and well worth throwing a few bucks in for the bundle. Excited to play through the prototypes, as well.

That's true about buying games on the cheap in general. If I only paid $5 for a game, I don't have any real regrets giving it up after an hour if I'm not enjoying it. Paying $50 for a game and disliking it cuts a bit deeper.

Also, with a sizable catalog, I always have something new to try once I shelve the losers.

Most bundles have terms of service forbiding this but in reality there is probably little they can do to enforce it.

It's one of those just because you can do something doesn't mean you should things as far I as I am concerned.

To be clear though the purpose of offering DRM free downloads and Steam and/or Desura keys and in some cases Linux and Mac etc versions is for flexibility and convenience. It's not meant that you are supposed to be getting multiple copies of the game.

That said, no one is looking over your shoulder. Do what you feel is right.

FWIW, I consider this different than giving away separate keys from a bundle for games I already have from elsewhere or have zero interest in and will never play. Technically speaking there is probably language in most bundles that prohibits this as well. There's some grey area and this sort of thing tends to cause a lot of back and forth flaming and squabbling on various forums about what you can and can't do. Everyone is an armchair lawyer or priest, it seems.

Again I go back to the do what you feel is right.
This is kind of cool. All Independent Games Festival finalists will be offered a spot on Steam. There have been some stumbles, but I really do think Valve is trying to make it easier to get quality indies on the service.

Shame they are doing this instead of getting more real games on the service.

IGF is a big offender too. They are usually a great list to read and say "Okay to get good games I have to play the OPPOSITE of these."

Yeah, I had TQ gold from awhile back. I end up having to sync my account quite often at SG. It is annoying it doesn't block the DLC.

aww, i was hoping they would add something like Dawn of War 1 Gold Edition as a bonus game. I already have and played Titan Quest, and i doubt ill ever play red faction Armageddon.
anyway, i only payed a dollar, so its still welcome.

You can still back DFA for $30 and get access to hours of documentary, forum threads, and videos of Tim and others playing through classic adventure games. And of course, the finished game. http://doublefine.com/dfa

also: protip about TQ, the co-op's great. Played through tons with my wife when we were dating long distance. The ancient Greek setting, and the diablo style gameplay work great. Plus it has the most hilarious attack impact noises ever.

You know, after reading the list of winners, I tend to agree with you. While there are some outliers (like Minecraft), many of the games which won are short on substance. Blueberry Garden won the grand prize in 2009? It is kinda cute, but it is pretty much done in a half hour and you never think of it ever again.

Maybe, tho, it will shine some light on the process. I don't mind ready access to games I may not have heard of.

A lot of IGF games aren't very good or never even come out. Sometimes it takes years. They're generally awarded based more on concept than a finished project. But there have been some gems and it helps promote some interesting ideas which may never have otherwise been seen, because, like I said, the games may not even be released.

And of course it's not like this takes away many resources from getting other games on the service. IGF approached Valve and said, "Hey, can we get our winners on Steam? We don't know what they are yet so you don't have to evaluate them." Valve agreed.

If there wasn't the add-on with the ignore button that website would just be horrible. Also now I get to add Titan Quest to its own list in steam, GO TO GAMERSGATE. There is absolutely no point in me playing my Steam version when I have the gold edition at gamersgate and I will not be buying IT just for the sake of not going to gamersgate..

The filter feature is now actually part of Steamgifts itself under the account menu. I use the infinite scrolling feature in the addon and having the website filter the games before the addon loads them tends to get me through the list a little bit faster.

Worked for me. A couple of other people I know got them, too, although one said he got an invalid error on one of them. Make sure you aren't mixing them together (longer pauses to represent key 'breaks') and also 'oh' is O and 'zero' is 0.

I can change a letter and get an invalid code error. I'm getting an error message I've never seen before with the (I'm assuming) valid codes.

edit: Actually, other valid codes are giving the same error. Something may be up with Steam, or this is the new lockout message.

Did you try any invalid codes before getting the new error message?

Quite literally Red Faction Armageddon's DLC isn't even worth the effort to copy and paste it. It's terrible. The game itself is competent but the DLC is such watery drek.

Hell, it damn sure isn't worth the unending freeze Steam does when you try to redeem a code.

Just to clarify, if you own last year's game you get a code for a DLC for this year's game, which you may or may not already own.

I grabbed the DLC but I am waiting for the basic Magic 2013 to get on a cheaper sale.

I would be careful with this one, it's totally locked my account from accepting valid codes. I tried entering a couple then got an odd message saying purchase error so I stopped. Now when I try activating my new Humble keys I get the same error.

Thanks.

And now every code from that "tape" says invalid even though that Titan Quest one works. Odd.

If anyone is planning on giving their extra keys away I would greatly appreciate one as I could not afford to beat the average on this one even though I wanted to. I hate being a broke college student in November and December .

Thank you Dr Sasquatch. I greatly appreciate it.
