Welcome to the Steam Deal Thread V5! You can find link to past threads at the bottom of this post. Read post #2 of this thread for Steam FAQs and more.

This is a Wiki post. Please read this
We appreciate you helping keep this thread up to date. The sales change virtually every day so no one person has the time to update them all. If you notice a game is no longer on sale, feel free to delete its line from the sale list. Of course, if you see a game is on sale, add it to the list. Make sure your changes match the thread's format! For example, every game that's on sale is part of an unordered list. When adding a game to the list, copy an existing line and update the link, title, and prices. That way, the format stays correct. Do not list percentages off! We list the original price and the sale price here. If you have any suggestions for major changes to the post/thread, PM me (EastX) about them.
for instructions on updating the thread.

Preorder Deals - Updated 10/28
Group Buys - Updated 8/14

Several multiplayer Steam games are available in 2-packs or 4-packs. These packs offer a discount over buying multiple copies of a game separately. We also maintain group buy trade threads for several games, so please use those threads if you're interested in setting up a group buy.

Free Stuff - Updated 4/3

There are several free games and mods on Steam. These are a few choice ones; you can find a full list here. Note that free games are not permanently attached to your Steam account like actual purchases would be. You'll need to manually download a game again from the website if you uninstall it.

Steam around CAG

If you are interested in joining the Steam CAG Community or participating in a trade or group buy with fellow Cheap Ass Gamers, please do so in the dedicated threads and not in the deal discussion thread. In the dedicated threads you will find CAGers with the same specialized interest who will be much quicker (and happier) to respond than in the Deals thread.

Steam Retail Key List

What is a CD key and where can I find it?

https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=7480-WUSF-3601

The CD Key is a serial number with a combination of 13, 18, or 25 letters and numbers - it can be found on a sticker inside your game's case or printed on the game's quick reference card.
The CD Key acts as your proof of purchase for the game - Steam Support may ask for it if you need to establish your ownership of an account. It is recommended that you keep your CD Key in a safe place to ensure the security of your account.

Think it might have. Just noticed it -- oh snap I can sell all my junky TF2 crates for $0.01
You know, I just realized the other day when I was at Gamestop a lady came in trying to buy some DLC cards for a PC game as a gift. The guy didn't have them and went on to recommend Steam to her. Just hit me that he didn't recommend Impulse...lol
LOL.
Dude should've also recommended CAG Forums.

Let me give some quick reviews of the couple of games I've been playing.

Build a PC - I got this as the bta in the HDD Failure Bundle from INK(Indie Nut Kick). This one is a collection of mini-games, starting out pretty well with a strategy one where you have to pick the right parts at the right price and the right compatibility. The next one was decent but easy, requiring you to match pieces to a board with different connectors and whatnot. Things took a downturn after that though. A cable (mis)management game has you threading, bending, hiding various size cables into locations where they have no business going. Slightly less frustrating than Zen Bound since the physics are much more realistic, but still no fun at all. Lastly is a software installation game. This one was way too repititous and downright boring. Also plenty of glitches that you have to work around to get through the game. Overall I'd say pick this one up on the cheap, if only for the first couple mini-games.

20 down/20 up - This one I bought full price from North State a few years ago due to some good reviews from other folks. I really enjoyed this one until a few days ago when it started glitching out really bad. Apparently I came across a game breaking bug that essentially rendered this game useless. A better name at this point may have been .2 down/0 up. The dev couldn't help troubleshoot, but promised a patch by today at 4:00. Around 8:30 they finally dropped off the patch at my house and it seems to have worked. I'll probably keep playing this one in the background as I play other stuff as well.
Sorry if this has been asked and answered, but it seems that there are a lot of GT Legends giveaways popping up on Steamgifts. I thought I had a good handle on all of the recent bundles, but maybe I missed one with GT Legends? It doesn't look like something I would pay $12 for, but I would get it with some other stuff.
Those keys are from CD Action (a polish gaming magazine).
Those keys are from CD Action (a polish gaming magazine).
Ah okay, thanks.

I noticed that Steam added a Spiderweb Software Complete Pack. I'm guessing its gonna have a good discount for the Winter Sale because the current price is higher than the price of the individual games (although that's also because they don't list all of those prices). I do own almost all of them already, but that's something for RPG lovers to keep an eye on.

Looks like a polish magazine gave them away for free without proof of purchase required.

mine froze going to the next page after reading your post. :applause:

Also, waiting for the inevitable Humble Motoki Bundle.

GT Legends is a 2005 SIMBIN title (known for their racing simulators). It's new on steam but the retail keys activate. There's a CAG thread here. However here's what I did.

Register for an account here. Activate your account via a link sent to your email account. Logout.

Use a polish proxy. I used this webpage based one: http://iphider.pl/

Log into your account through the proxy. http://forum.cdaction.pl/index.php?app=core&module=global&section=login

Then go to this page through the proxy (box in the upper part of the screen, a little below your url bar). http://www.cdaction.pl/seriale/GT_Legends

It will then inform you that the code has been sent to your email

Retrieve the key from your email and strip the - from the code so it looks like:
4P6F9E28NMNE6GQPKQ6JGCCA4925
and enter it into steam.

Worked for me. I'm a bit of a racing nut. I own all of SIMBIN's RACE07 DLC/derivative titles on steam (summer sale, ~$24). If you are expecting an arcade racer you will be sorely disappointed. You will race like you took your car to the track. For a racing nut, It's a nice addition.

Cheers to all the mini-reviews. All the ones Flow covered are either in my backlog or wishlist (but maybe not for long).
The Little Big Bunch someone mentioned a couple days ago is live now.
Space Colony was fun for a SimCity/ThemeHospital type game, although I haven't played too many of them. I never finished it though, because near the end when a military-type mission popped up, I wasn't prepared for it and it was discouragingly tough.
Has CAG been laggy for anyone else for the last couple days?
Yes; thought it might've been just me. CAG 3.0 can't get here fast enough for me.

Phew, been behind for a few days, but I've finally caught up with the thread. Started cracking up over the last couple of pages. Then had to explain to my wife why it was all so funny. Love you guys.

The pricing on that package is pretty wacky in general. The actual price to buy them all individually would be like $57.

I also have most of them, from indie bundles, and having played Avadon and Geneforge 1 I have to say I'm definitely a fan. Looking forward to picking up Nethergate and Avernum: Escape for cheap in the next sale.

Those GT Legends codes are not exactly legit since you have to lie about your location. Just a heads up for people that there is a small risk involved.

Is that was those were? You sent me photos of actual foxes! I'd assumed all this time that you were a human IRL, or at least an anthropomorphic fox.

Still nothing back from Steam's customer support, Day 3. I'll never understand Steam fanboys, you'd think a company worth as much as Valve could afford to hire a few people people for $11/hr to respond to tickets at a reasonable rate.

Sorry this isn't so much about Motaki, but what ever happened to that internal CAG widget for giving away game keys? I think it was supposed to be tested with some free stuff amazon was giving out after the summer sale, and then I didn't pay attention for a month or two, never heard of it again. Is it a thing?

First of all, you just insulted a god. Motoki*

Second of all, the code giveaway system was tested a few times, but it's not open for public use yet, other than receiving codes.

I'm guessing they are out, page says "We do not have serial numbers to GT_Legends". I'm guessing they will revoke these like last time there was a free giveaway and people had to use a proxy to get them. Oh, and you're all wrong. Motoki is the Meta-Game!

I don't think any of the keys from this magazine have ever been revoked. I won a copy of Blood Bowl Legendary, which I'm pretty sure was obtained from that site, and it's still sitting happily in my library.

Steam support is almost non existent, even when you get replies from them, the support staff has no idea what your problem is then you have to go through the waiting cycle again. Valve should just learn from Amazon what customer service is about.

And to think that Valve wants to venture into the hardware business with the steam box, with support like this, it is just a ticking time bomb.

Except Amazon has competition, a lot of competition. Steam . . . not so much. If you don't like Steam, but the game you want to play is Steamworks . . . yer pretty much fucked. They hold all the cards. Until the US passes legislation or gets a court ruling similar to the EU that is suppose to allow customers to transfer electronic licenses between services then Steam is the 800lb gorilla and you are its bitch.

Steam does have competition. It's the competition to actually get a game to be Steamworks, rather than just some game that is DRM free or not on Steam and filled with DRM or *cringes* GFWL. Plus I am sure Valve would rather you buy a game through Steam instead of just buying a key off of Amazon or GMG.
It's still a thing, but unlike most major retailers, CAG is an independent party run by only a few people offering codes on a first come, first serve basis to several hundred thousand members. And since Cheapy isn't exactly an established distributor of digital goods, we tend not to get enough and the system doesn't get used often. The last giveaway was for 100 StarCraft 2 beta keys courtesy of Amazon, though, in case you were wondering. I just imagine it's hard finagling so many free keys to give away, especially on a forum.
Gaben will strike you down for such blasphemy.
Motoki*
A bit late to the party, but good Motoki all the avatar switch ups! I actually have to read people's names now.
Is this better? My Motoconut Queen looked pretty thirsty anyway...

Also don't know whether this Motoki thing is meant in lighthearted fun or if someone started it sarcastically to mock him. :( Wouldn't be cool if it was the latter.

It was just forum goofiness. No harmful intent :)

Besides, Motoki really is a fantastic name for a deity.

For some reason, this reminded me of those silly youtube disclaimers:

I DO NOT OWN THIS SONG. NO COPYRIGHT INTENDED.

Crysis 2 Maximum edition for $9.99 is the weekend deal.
Crysis 1 and Warhead are $5 each, and Crysis maximum edition is $7.50

Daily deal is Grotesque tactics bundle for $3.74.

I expect to see these prices repeated or beaten during the winter sale.

I'm pretty sure that's the cheapest I've seen Grotesque Tactics 1 and 2. I bet it won't go lower during the solstice sales.

A Devil May Cry reboot is coming to steam in Jan. I wish they'd port the HD versions of DMC 1-3 to PC. (And I hopefully do a better job than the original DMC 3 PC port.)

ArsTechnica reports at length on frame latency issues with the 7950 (as compared to the 660 Ti).
A moral victory in the borderline-meaningless FPS sweeps doesn't overcome the fact that the Radeon HD 7950 has a persistent problem with high-latency frames across a range of test scenarios based on the latest games. The 99th-percentile frame times reflect that reality. Our latest round of tests shows that Windows 8 is not the problem. On the contrary, Windows 8 generally improves the latency picture somewhat.

recommend the GeForce GTX 660 Ti over the Radeon HD 7950

The tragedy here is one of wasted potential. The Radeon HD 7950 is, on paper, clearly a more powerful GPU than the GTX 660 Ti, with double the memory interface width and a theoretical edge in peak ROP rate and shader flops. AMD is giving you more hardware for your money when you buy a 7950. For whatever reason—and we suspect the main culprit is graphics driver software—the 7950 can't convert that advantage into consistently smoother in-game animation.

Also, updated Ars system builder guide.

Worth it. Generally if it's a 75 percent off sale, no it's never been cheaper (and if it has it was probably the rare 80 percent off) aside from if you buy the franchise bundled together (7.50 for 1st and Warhead, 17 for 1st, Warhead, and 2).
