Welcome to the Steam Deal Thread V5! You can find link to past threads at the bottom of this post. Read post #2 of this thread for Steam FAQs and more.

This is a Wiki post. Please read this
We appreciate you helping keep this thread up to date. The sales change virtually every day so no one person has the time to update them all. If you notice a game is no longer on sale, feel free to delete its line from the sale list. Of course, if you see a game is on sale, add it to the list. Make sure your changes match the thread's format! For example, every game that's on sale is part of an unordered list. When adding a game to the list, copy an existing line and update the link, title, and prices. That way, the format stays correct. Do not list percentages off! We list the original price and the sale price here. If you have any suggestions for major changes to the post/thread, PM me (EastX) about them.
for instructions on updating the thread.

Preorder Deals - Updated 10/28
Group Buys - Updated 8/14

Several multiplayer Steam games are available in 2-packs or 4-packs. These packs offer a discount over buying multiple copies of a game separately. We also maintain group buy trade threads for several games, so please use those threads if you're interested in setting up a group buy.

Free Stuff - Updated 4/3

There are several free games and mods on Steam. These are a few choice ones; you can find a full list here. Note that free games are not permanently attached to your Steam account like actual purchases would be. You'll need to manually download a game again from the website if you uninstall it.

Steam around CAG

If you are interested in joining the Steam CAG Community or participating in a trade or group buy with fellow Cheap Ass Gamers, please do so in the dedicated threads and not in the deal discussion thread. In the dedicated threads you will find CAGers with the same specialized interest who will be much quicker (and happier) to respond than in the Deals thread.

Steam Retail Key List

What is a CD key and where can I find it?

https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=7480-WUSF-3601

The CD Key is a serial number with a combination of 13, 18, or 25 letters and numbers - it can be found on a sticker inside your game's case or printed on the game's quick reference card.
The CD Key acts as your proof of purchase for the game - Steam Support may ask for it if you need to establish your ownership of an account. It is recommended that you keep your CD Key in a safe place to ensure the security of your account.
Borderlands 1 GOTY is very much worth playing (well for singleplayer at least), and a good way to wait for real BL2 price drops.
And note that it isn't necessary to play BL to understand what's happening in BL2... but it sure adds a lot. The recurring characters and glimpses of familiar faces is awesome.
Sonic Generations worth the $8? Honestly, I haven't played a Sonic game since the Genesis.
If you like Sonic, or platformers in general, then absolutely. It's a well-crafted game. It looks great, sounds great, and plays great. Lots of content too.
Can Mark of the Ninja run fine with Intel HD 3000 gpu? Will it at least look as good as it does on 360?
I would say yes, but what important is what process you have on?
Promises.

Promises that I don't have a lot of faith in them keeping because I still haven't gotten my Infinity bundle. If I had actually paid money for that bundle, I'd be pissed. But it's kinda hard to get too worked up over not getting something that was gonna be given to me for free.
The Subsoap account signup has been up for a few months now: https://account.subsoap.com/

That said, I agree, and I'm not willing to support this new bundle until there's been some progress made on his other games and some actual releases.

i've got a serious dilema going on

mark of the ninja
dragon age ultimate
sonic generation
arkham city goty
torchlight 2

that is way to many games to buy all of them right?
so which do I buy?

I'd go Arkham City GOTY for $7.50.
Followed by either TL2 or DA:U

& good looks on the Borderlands thoughts

I would say Arkham City then Sonic. Only because I have played them and they both are great games. I myself keep eyeing TL2. I just don't know if I will get into it. Couldn't get into TL1.

Drop the games that aren't 75% off, winter sale is only a few weeks away and they'll be at least their current discount then.

I hadn't noticed that Arkham Asylum used SECUROM. I already used up two of my machines -- one on an old computer that couldn't even run it.
OH the other thing i wanted to recommend is that people do NOT buy
arkham city and arkham assylum from steam, even tho they are cheap($7.50 for arkham city goty) because they have some of the ugliest drm of any game:

5 machines and 10 installs per machine. if you upgrade your computer at all, chances are that you will not be able to access your batman games in 10 years(tho i guess at that point, i would just say go ahead and pirate them, you paid for them, if steam doesnt let you access your games because of install limits, then fuck them).

but i would instead recommend just getting them for the xbox or ps3.
While pointing out restrictive DRM is quite helpful, making recommendations on it isn't -- otherwise the DRM-FREE fanatics would be threadcrapping all over. Batman AA and AC are both great games and and for $5 and $7.50 for the GOTY versions are good value even with the install limits. Not everyone has a PS3 or 360.

I can personally vouch that Torchlight 2 and Batman AC have a lot of game play and probably won't pricedrop more for a while. DA is well regarded as well. Sonic Generations (I own) is a bit hit or miss imo -- my first encounter with 3D sonic was jarring, that said it's regarded as the best sonic since Sonic 3. Imo, Mark of the Ninja looks great, but it's only 50% off and should fall more soon.

Hmmm, now that I think about it, 75% off Krater is the main deal I think I am anticipating for Winter.

I went ahead and got the following this sale:

Zombie Driver HD (upgrade basically)
Orcs Must Die 2 Complete
Torchlight II
Legend of Grim Rock
Silverfall (got suckered into this one too :)
Dead Hungry Diner

Also, thoughts on Dead Hungry Diner - it's a cute and fun sort of time management game (I think that's what it is called).

Zombies come to eat brainberries at your restaurant/cemetery. You have to seat them, feed them, clean the table, rinse and repeat. You get some powerups you can use on stuff like delaying the zombies so they don't angry for waiting to be seated.

Nothing necessarily new or novel about the game, but fun enough if you enjoy the genre.

Edit:
And I went ahead and got Batman AC GOTY on PS3 for $15 from Target. Double what Steam charges, but no DRM BS and I can resell it once I am done and come out even.
I would say Arkham City then Sonic. Only because I have played them and they both are great games. I myself keep eyeing TL2. I just don't know if I will get into it. Couldn't get into TL1.
No, it was $7.49. I know because I bought it to help out a fellow CAG who couldn't buy it in their country.

FWIW, I've played through all of those games, and they're all very different.

For me though, Mark of the Ninja is pretty damn outstanding. It's my most recent purchase but I've blasted through it, and I NEVER play games through that fast. Great game.

Zombie Driver....I want to pull the trigger on this game but its like screaming "Be Mine 9" at me.......HELP
No, it was $7.50. I know because I bought it to help out a fellow CAG who couldn't buy it in their country.
That is right, for some reason I thought it was $5 but $7.50 is still better than the current sale price.

I just remember buying it during the Summer Sale and normally I try not spend over $5 for a game on Steam unless it is one that I actually want to play.

The original has been around for years and never been in a bundle.

It's a good game. I already played the original. The HD version upgrades everything and adds some new missions. Fun top down shooting car game. I think I paid $2 or $2.5 for the original so dropping another $2.50 for the HD doesn't hurt me much. It is an indie and could end up in a bundle. Not sure about who the dev is or what their history is with indie bundles. I know the original has been out for years with no bundles, but anything is possible.

Thanks for linking me to that. I never received an email about that, so this is the first that I'm hearing about this.

So I guess I just use the keys that they gave me back in April then, eh? Hmm, I guess I stand corrected then. I do have the infinity bundle. Or I will when I find the email that they sent me with the key.
I would say yes, but what important is what process you have on?
Cool. I was looking to have everything on at 1366x768 or 1280x720. Shank 2 ran fine w/ everything on but I didnt know if this i3-2330m would be able to handle Mark of the Ninja. Now I just gotta resist the urge to buy at 7.49 and wait for 75% off. Torchlight 2 also looks tempting, but the winter sale is so close.

I'm so tempted to buy the Lucas Arts Adventure Pack......I think the last time it was 75% off was some time in 2009...and 50% is the cheapest its been for a year or two....

I might have to bite before sales end.

and now that disney owns them.....who knows what will happen with this stuff on Steam
so its looking like arkham city and sonic generations

what are the chances of a torchlight 2 4-pack being $20 during the winter sale?
Not sure. Just bought on though. My buddies will be very happy when they get off work. You wish you had a friend like me don't ya.
Zombie Driver....I want to pull the trigger on this game but its like screaming "Be Mine 9" at me.......HELP
The original was included in a bundle that Steam offered in the 2010 holiday sale. That's where I got it. I mostly played it for achievements during one of the seasonal sales, but I had a heck of a lot of fun while playing. I keep meaning to go back and play some more.

I've been thinking about upgrading like Fox, but I think it's likely that it will show up in a future bundle and I can still play the original while I wait.

A lot of the games that were in those 2010 holiday bundles have gone on to show up in other bundles. I'd say that it's probably a little bit too good to show up in a Groupies bundle though (and it damn well wont show up in an Indie Gala bundle). I'd say Indie Royal, or maybe even Humble.

I already bought it. I don't trust Disney to keep the Lucas arts games in the store, so I've been focusing all my attention this sale on buying up their catalog. At this point, I'm only missing Lucidity, Thrillville & a couple of Lego games. I'm tapped out for now, so those game will have to wait until the Holiday sale.

Anyone interested in Sins of a Solar Empire: Rebellion? I kinda want to pick up a 4 pack, but not really sure. I only played the first one, but not the two expansions.

If you've never played Zombie Driver than it's definitely worth $2.50 for the HD version. Pretty fun top-down driving carnage game with a couple of different modes. The HD version apparently added bosses and some other new content. Eventually I'll pick it up but I might wait for the Holiday Sale.

So I just bought the Torchlight 2 4 pack. Do you get 5 copies all together? I installed the one in my library and sent out 2 copies. Still says I have 2 of them to gift. Has this happened to anyone else?
well its odd. The 2 in my inventory each have my friend names on them. Does this mean they didn't accept yet?
I believe so.

yes, they have to accept first.

Do you want to sell a copy? If not, is anyone up for a group buy? I can make the purchase, but I'd need payment within a few days.

Hold Strong!

edit: What are the consequences for purchasing DLC out of region? Does steam simply drop the game out of my account or do they suspend my account. I'm all for saving a buck or two, but I'd be devastated if my whole library was burned down cause I wanted to save a couple bucks on Gods and Kings.

If you'd take a steam key of rage for one of those I'd trade you
I'm so tempted to buy the Lucas Arts Adventure Pack......I think the last time it was 75% off was some time in 2009...and 50% is the cheapest its been for a year or two....

I might have to bite before sales end.

and now that disney owns them.....who knows what will happen with this stuff on Steam

I already bought it. I don't trust Disney to keep the Lucas arts games in the store, so I've been focusing all my attention this sale on buying up their catalog. Well I WAS going to wait on those, but since you guys made me paranoid...Bought the Lucasarts Adventure pack and I SWEAR that was the last game(s) I'm getting until the Winter sale...No Silverfall for me. :( lol.
