Welcome to the Steam Deal Thread V5! You can find link to past threads at the bottom of this post. Read post #2 of this thread for Steam FAQs and more.

This is a Wiki post. Please read this
We appreciate you helping keep this thread up to date. The sales change virtually every day so no one person has the time to update them all. If you notice a game is no longer on sale, feel free to delete its line from the sale list. Of course, if you see a game is on sale, add it to the list. Make sure your changes match the thread's format! For example, every game that's on sale is part of an unordered list. When adding a game to the list, copy an existing line and update the link, title, and prices. That way, the format stays correct. Do not list percentages off! We list the original price and the sale price here. If you have any suggestions for major changes to the post/thread, PM me (EastX) about them.
for instructions on updating the thread.

Preorder Deals - Updated 10/28
Group Buys - Updated 8/14

Several multiplayer Steam games are available in 2-packs or 4-packs. These packs offer a discount over buying multiple copies of a game separately. We also maintain group buy trade threads for several games, so please use those threads if you're interested in setting up a group buy.

Free Stuff - Updated 4/3

There are several free games and mods on Steam. These are a few choice ones; you can find a full list here. Note that free games are not permanently attached to your Steam account like actual purchases would be. You'll need to manually download a game again from the website if you uninstall it.

Steam around CAG

If you are interested in joining the Steam CAG Community or participating in a trade or group buy with fellow Cheap Ass Gamers, please do so in the dedicated threads and not in the deal discussion thread. In the dedicated threads you will find CAGers with the same specialized interest who will be much quicker (and happier) to respond than in the Deals thread.

Steam Retail Key List

What is a CD key and where can I find it?

https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=7480-WUSF-3601

The CD Key is a serial number with a combination of 13, 18, or 25 letters and numbers - it can be found on a sticker inside your game's case or printed on the game's quick reference card.
The CD Key acts as your proof of purchase for the game - Steam Support may ask for it if you need to establish your ownership of an account. It is recommended that you keep your CD Key in a safe place to ensure the security of your account.
Hey Motoki, are you a proponent of Big Fish crap? I've recently developed something of an obsession with Hidden Object games (...don't ask, I can't explain it) and I know they're basically the drug kingpin of those, but wading through their store looking for ones that aren't terrible is ridiculously frustrating.
You've probably already played them, but the Mystery Case Files are all pretty good.
Yeah, it's definitely not a stealth game AT ALL. I mean I'd think you were the best gamer in the world if you could actually sneak by people like that. The game is an action game. You can sneak by people here and there, but eventually the game missions call for you to get spotted anyways and have to shoot people.

It's stealthy in the the way you can try to get stealth kills by shooting during bombings to mask your bullets and stuff like that.

I just got the two mission packs. They promise one single player mission. I know I thought the Kill Hitler DLC was definitely worth it so a buck and some change per mission is fine by me.
Thanks for the responses. I think I'm gonna go for it, just one more question. I think I'll get the franchise pack, plus the other 2 dlc, as it comes out about 50 cents cheaper than the vanilla game plus all 3 DLC. However, I've got zero interest in the original Sniper Elite which comes bundled in the pack. Is there any way to designate the original as a gift during the purchase while keeping V2 and the dlc?
Legend of Grimrock looks hard. Hard like it will hurt my feelings and I'll never play the game after the first time. Thoughts?
Um it can get difficult. Depends rlly. I enjoyed it.

Nope, it'll all be added to your account when you buy it.

Also, agreed with the stealth comments. It's not really "avoid everyone" stealth so much as "Find a good spot, shoot some people and scoot". From what I understand, some stealth addicts were a bit annoyed that you actually can't stealth your way through the game and parts of it force a gunfight. Personally, I just shoot everyone in the face.

Legend of Grimrock does have an easy difficulty setting but I have no idea what changes that makes.

edit: Nevermind, found it:
Re: Hardcore mode and difficulty levels

by petri » Thu Mar 29, 2012 9:48 pm
We have three difficulty settings that scale monster behavior in combat. On top of that there's old school mode which disables the auto map. We are also considering adding the permadeath option in a game update at some point but completing the game with this option would be very, very, VERY difficult I believe.

Man, I was doing so well in this sale, and these last 2 days have killed me. First, Torchlight 2, which I'm so very very looking forward to. And then today, I finally gave in and picked up not only The Witcher 2, but Alan Wake. As well as about 7-8 random indie games that were sitting on my wishlist for ~$1-$3 a piece. I mean, all in all, it's not that bad, but I was thinking I was going to get out of this sale with nothing for a while there.

(Indie Game List, for anyone who cares: Nation Red, Analogue, Legend of the Fae, Offspring Fling, Civ III (I have IV & V, not sure why, other than it was $1), Unstoppable Gorg, Home)

Oh, and Hard Reset from GMG the other day. That looked too good to pass up at $3.75.
Legend of Grimrock looks hard. Hard like it will hurt my feelings and I'll never play the game after the first time. Thoughts?
It can be difficult sometimes, but also a lot of fun. For $3.74 even if you end up struggling with it I think you'll get your moneys worth out of it.

Hm. Thanks to both of you. I'll consider it. I'm not leaping to get it, so I may just wait until the next time it's 75% off. Or in a bundle. ;)

I think Steam is screwing with me. One of my coupons I went to use disappeared (and it didn't expire has awhile to go before that).
Legend of Grimrock looks hard. Hard like it will hurt my feelings and I'll never play the game after the first time. Thoughts?
It's not too bad. I only played the first two areas (not floors) so far, which is like ~40% of the game, I think. Other than the first floor, when getting started, I didn't have much trouble.

I don't generally play this type of games, but I do play a lot of turn-based dungeon crawlers, from rogue-likes to Etrian Odyssey, etc.
Civ III (I have IV & V, not sure why, other than it was $1), Unstoppable Gorg, Home)
Ah, Civ III. I was so excited when that title was in development. I spent $60 on a special edition pre-order in a special metal tin, only to get an incomplete game lacking promised features that wasn't fixed until the (certainly not free) expansion. I refused to give Sid Meier any money for any games for a long time after that and drastically cut back on buying PC games overall.

It may be time to grab the complete version cheap and try it as it should have been at release.
It's good to see you again.

About time you got a blimmin' avatar! Avatarless CAGs scare me. It's like that episode of Doctor Who where nobody has a face. Even the milkman.
Wow I bought Witcher 2 for $16 during the summer sale and have yet to play it. Now it's $7.49?

I'm in the same boat except I think I paid $30-40 about a year ago, never played it.
I'm in the same boat except I think I paid $30-40 about a year ago, never played it.
I played around $30 for it earlier this year, haven't really touched it yet either. Makes me sad.

The Witcher 2 is a steal at this price and it's definitely in my top 5 RPG experiences of all time. Just make sure to play it on Dark Mode.
(If you have a rig good enough to run this game on ultra its GORGEOUS, but this game is a beast def no intergrated graphics will run this thing.)
I played around $30 for it earlier this year, haven't really touched it yet either. Makes me sad.
I really learned a few things from my experience buying stuff that I don't play and then suffering through these kinds of low prices... I'm trying to be smarter about my purchases now. Witcher 2 was one of my first 2 or 3 PC game purchases, I didn't know what I was doing. It was like 20% off so I thought it was a great deal.

I'm on the fence for Sniper Elite V2

Played the demo and loved it, game looks like it could be a lot of fun, but I don't know if it's worth $12.50 to me. I don't know, but it's got a bargain-bin kind of feel to it
Anyone think it could hit $7.50 or hopefully even $5 during the Winter sale?
Anybody recommend any of the DLC for Killing Floor?

Also, how do I become a member of the CAG Steam Group?
None of it matters except the weapon pack, but even that isn't worth buying unless you've already played the game a ton.
Legend of Grimrock looks hard. Hard like it will hurt my feelings and I'll never play the game after the first time. Thoughts?
LoG isn't all that hard. Mostly it's just paint by numbers dungeoneering. The thing is that the combat is some sort of weird real time grid movement hybrid so you can move while your attacks recharge.

This means a 2x2 square on the map is enough to render you unkillable against any single enemy.

It's a decent game but it bored me quickly.
Has witcher 2 ever been this low before? or is this the lowest?
Lowest by at least five bucks as far as Steam is concerned.

I would very much like to welcome Motoki back to the forums. The company here on the thread has been excellent, but it's nice to know one of the more generous and influential members has decided to rejoin the group.

I do like some of the hidden object and point and click stuff as cheesy as it may be but I agree with you that trying to figure out which ones you want in Big Fish or even Amazon's casual section when you are somewhat new to that genre is way overwhelming.

I might grab some of the Drawn games, I'll see. The first one is on Steam but pretty much never goes on sale.
That's an amazing avatar. I wish someone would make something like that for me ;)
I will. I used the Bridge Constructor Sim to build a bridge and get the hell over it. I missed you guys.

I probably won't be on here 24/7 like I used to be though because work is kind of crazy right now.

I want to get Legend of Grimrock and Torchlight 2 since they're so cheap, but I know I won't put a lot of play time into them for a while to justify spending the money right now.. hmmm maybe I should wait for the Winter sale

Ah, Total War Shogun and Fall of the Samurai are back up in price from before. Should have pulled the trigger, but the timer on both said it would end sometime tonight and there was no mention it being the daily deal. :(
Never pay more than $10 for a game!
More like wait for Tony from Amazon to come up with some insanely cheap bundle.

Grimrock will eventually be in a Humble Bundle. TL2 will only get cheaper.
I played around $30 for it earlier this year, haven't really touched it yet either. Makes me sad.
I paid about $17 this summer (I think), but I was willing to pay to buy it then because I wanted to get the GoG backup copy as well.

So what were people's final tallies? I spent more than I thought I did when I added it all up. I'm done unless something special comes up or someone bought something I missed. Was tempted by The Witcher 2 but then realized I've yet to play the first one. Also tempted by the Sherlock Holmes collection for $8.74 but I may just wait until the Winter sale.

Amazon $9.99

WB Action Pack:
Batman Arkham Asylum GOTY
Lord of the Rings: War in the North
Mortal Kombat

Gamefly $10.06

Spec Ops The Line $5.99
Syndicate $4.07

Steam $46.43

Alpha Prime $1.24
Batman Arkham City GOTY $7.49
Crysis Maximum Edition $8.99
Garshap Temple of the Dragon $1.24
Legend of Grimrock $3.74
Silverfall Complete $3.74
Torchlight 2 (x2) $15.00
Transformers: War for Cybertron $4.99

Surprisingly not that bad this time around - only spent around $150. I wanted to hit the 2,000 games mark so bad but fell about 70 short. Oh well, Winter is coming.
Do you guys think Steam will PM Amazon's price for KoA: Reckoning via flash sales or no?
Nope. I don't know of a time when Steam matched a competitor's price ever. In this case this also relates to KoA having a different publisher on Steam than elsewhere.

Anyway, there's a bunch of crap over at Big Fish on sale for $2.99 if you enter the code CYBER. Most of it IS crap, but some is decent like 4 Elements II which is on Greenlight but oddly not on Steam yet.
Welcome Back!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :)

Sweet, had an active final day after getting nothing but Dredmor DLC the first five days. Grabbed a Castle Crashers 4 pack and traded two off for Witcher 2 (thanks Landon66). Now watch Castle Crashers be in the next Indie Royale.

Question: Is that promotion still active where you can add a Witcher 2 code to GOG?
