Welcome to the Steam Deal Thread V5! You can find link to past threads at the bottom of this post. Read post #2 of this thread for Steam FAQs and more.

This is a Wiki post. Please read this
We appreciate you helping keep this thread up to date. The sales change virtually every day so no one person has the time to update them all. If you notice a game is no longer on sale, feel free to delete its line from the sale list. Of course, if you see a game is on sale, add it to the list. Make sure your changes match the thread's format! For example, every game that's on sale is part of an unordered list. When adding a game to the list, copy an existing line and update the link, title, and prices. That way, the format stays correct. Do not list percentages off! We list the original price and the sale price here. If you have any suggestions for major changes to the post/thread, PM me (EastX) about them.
for instructions on updating the thread.

Preorder Deals - Updated 10/28
Group Buys - Updated 8/14

Several multiplayer Steam games are available in 2-packs or 4-packs. These packs offer a discount over buying multiple copies of a game separately. We also maintain group buy trade threads for several games, so please use those threads if you're interested in setting up a group buy.

Free Stuff - Updated 4/3

There are several free games and mods on Steam. These are a few choice ones; you can find a full list here. Note that free games are not permanently attached to your Steam account like actual purchases would be. You'll need to manually download a game again from the website if you uninstall it.

Steam around CAG

If you are interested in joining the Steam CAG Community or participating in a trade or group buy with fellow Cheap Ass Gamers, please do so in the dedicated threads and not in the deal discussion thread. In the dedicated threads you will find CAGers with the same specialized interest who will be much quicker (and happier) to respond than in the Deals thread.

Steam Retail Key List

What is a CD key and where can I find it?

https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=7480-WUSF-3601

The CD Key is a serial number with a combination of 13, 18, or 25 letters and numbers - it can be found on a sticker inside your game's case or printed on the game's quick reference card.
The CD Key acts as your proof of purchase for the game - Steam Support may ask for it if you need to establish your ownership of an account. It is recommended that you keep your CD Key in a safe place to ensure the security of your account.

Yeah well don't get your hopes up because FF7 PC appeared in the registry a year ago and look what happened with that.

Also, who owns the rights to it now? Beamdog? If so they are not very Steam friendly...:bomb:

Actually, I wish someone would remake it along the lines of Diablo 3 in terms of visuals (not gameplay or DRM just the way it looks).

OMG THE LEGACY OF KAIN SERIES IS ON STEAM NOW!!!!!
WOHOOOOO!
I predicted this would happen after I saw the old tomb raider games get added, since theyre from the same developer.

good job steam. good job
A+

I already own PST from Retail (3-CD).
So, I don't need it.
But, this might be great news for gamers who

I got in on GoG's 10-game sale on D&D games for $30 this year, so I'm set as far as those titles are concerned. I could see myself buying a remake of PST, though.

Crystal Dynamics didn't develop the old Tomb Raider games that were just added. They've only done the last couple of games.

I already have those D&D Games on GOG but I would buy them again if they hit Steam, particularly on a sale. The less loose DRM free and otherwise non-Steam stuff I have the better because they tend to get ignored and forgotten by me, out of sight out of mind and all that.

I would have bought Baldur's again if it were on Steam too but their loss. I may still get the Android version though, I'll see.

On a completely unrelated note, how the hell do I already have Red Faction? It's not even a game I would buy. Was there some other THQ indie bundle I forgot about?
Also, PST is already for digital sale on GOG.
Hasbro published it there.

Also, there's a high-res mod out there for PST (and other Infinite Engine games), to increase the resolution.
I would point one at the $20 D&D Anthology on GG I picked this up in Feb for ~$7. It's DRM FREE.

Baldur’s Gate 1 & 2 + Expansions [Average Metacritic: 91%] “…reigns supreme over every RPG currently available, and sets new standards for those to come“ – PC Gamer Developer: Bioware

Icewind Dale 1 & 2 + Expansions [Average Metacritic 85%] “Once in a while, a game comes along that completely takes over your life. “ – IGN

Planescape: Torment [Metacritic 91%] “Is it possible for a computer game to have the intellectual heft and emotional impact of a good book while remaining as captivating as a well-paced film? If so, the first candidate may well be Planescape: Torment. . “ – New York Times

The Temple of Elemental Evil [Metacritic 71%] “A rock-solid RPG that faithfully re-creates a classic adventure.“ – Gamespy

Core Design did the TR's up to TR: Angel of Darkness.
TR: Legend was Crystal's first TR game.

Only game I'm missing there is BG1: TOTSC Expansion.
I own everything else.
And that collection is EASILY worth the $7 you paid for it.

Amazon THQ Bundle?
Never mind, I figured it out. I thought Red Faction: Armageddon (the base game) was added as a bonus but it was there from the get go and it's the DLC that's the bonus.

I guess it helps to read things properly sometimes. :p
Hell, it damn sure isn't worth the unending freeze Steam does when you try to redeem a code.
Y'know, I have Steam running from an SSD and I rarely run into this freeze, if it makes any difference. Obviously it always lags for a second or two (nothing like the lightning-instant-fast Desura redeemer), but hardly ever any long freezes.

If anyone wants to try out (or already plays) the F2P game District 187: Sin Streets, Alienware Arena is having some sort of promotion right now where you can get a free $5 worth of in game credit.

Alienware Arena District 187 promotion here.

The game doesn't look too bad from what I saw, and the customization looks pretty spiffy.

Pretty detailed review over here.

And it's also available on Steam. I'm not sure whether you can get the promotion through Steam though...

Steam page here.

Gonna look into it myself. Probably won't bother if I can't install it with Steam and get the promotion though.

EDIT: Looks like the game is only 587MB to download. That says a bit about the graphics... but at the same time I'm glad that it will be a quick install if the game ends up sucking.
Glad some people are getting it. Guess I hid them too well.
The problem was they were in plain sight. Who would think to look there?

Not me, unfortunately. Thanks, though.

Half off virtual pets is their idea of a massive sale!
Is it really as fun as everyone is making it out to be?

I enjoyed it quite a bit. It is a puzzle game with action sequences really. Most people I've seen that complain about it go in thinking it is a pure action game when you really can't just go balls to the wall crazy all the time. The music is awesome too.
That's kind of what I did. I expected Loaded, basically. Loved that game. It took me a few round before I realized what it wanted me to do. So I'm disappointed a bit in that it isn't what I expected, but I also don't have any other game quite like it so I'm happy about the purchase.

It worked.

It wasn't a steam code, though.

You had to register it on Firefall's site. ;)

Thanks Blade!
Looks interesting. The code you inserted is giving an invalid product code though.
Yeah, I didn't specify that it's not on Steam.

I created a thread about it with 3 other codes if you're interested. You get 5 beta invites when you register, so everyone who wants to try it should be able to.
Bleh. Apparently the SR3 DLC key I won on SteamGifts post summer sale has been redeemed by someone else. Ah well.
Ah, no worries then. I'll forget about it if it isn't on Steam, so let it go to someone who will play it.
I didn't have a problem with Binary Domain, but this problem with triggers working the camera sometimes happens with the older Assassin's Creed games also. There's some kind of config file that you put into a folder that fixes it for AC.
Any more info on that?

Speaking of backlog, starting on KoA.

Is there any way to see how games that are on Greenlight are doing?

I've just spent the past 20 minutes watching videos for games and voting for what looks good, but I can't seem to find any place to see how games are doing. On a couple of games, I've seen the devs posting that their game is now in the top 100 or the top 50, but that's the closest that I can get to knowing how a game is doing. There's gotta be a place, right?
Hotline Miami is now $5 on Amazon. Hopefully this price stays into January so we can get it free... worth keeping an eye on.
That's why I'm not picking it up now. ;)

And yes, first on my list, among many others I'll be watching for in January.

It's just a price match. There's no chance that it lasts until January.

There is, however, a very good chance that you'll be able to pick the game up for a buck or two (or maybe even for free) due to Amazon's sale price, or because of another price match of a deal in January. The steam sale extends in to January this year (I believe it was leaked that is is Dec 20 to Jan 04). If we're lucky, Hotline Miami wont be a daily until Jan. Then if Amazon price matches it again (and they will) then we'll probably be able to get the game for free.

EDIT: The above assumes that you have at least one $5 promo credit from Amazon. Most regs already know that, but I figured that I should point it out in case we have any newbies checking out this thread.
I would point one at the $20 D&D Anthology on GG I picked this up in Feb for ~$7. It's DRM FREE.]/quote]

Pretty sure that was on it's way to Steam before, but it didn't make it there before Atari lost the rights to the D&D games. It then got pulled from GG etc, but it has made a return there, and I believe there was some new activity on the BG end and now PST on Steam side so I imagine they might still be pushing it through with the new publisher (Wizards of the Coast).

Either way, the D&D Anthology pack is miles above any price deal you'll ever get on GOG. It was $6.50~ on sale for BG1&2, IWD 1&2, TOEE and PST.

And they're adapted versions of the GOG installers so they're just as compatible. Still waiting for it to come to Steam myself (and get a sale of course)

Fantastic, I was kicking myself for not buying this collection but now since it's back, I will have to sometime. Hopefully the print more physical copies.

Also I highly recommend Far Cry 3. Such a great game and it fixes every bad part about Far Cry 2.

Not unless the developer/publisher/whoever posted the game comments on it, no. They can see the rankings but regular users cannot.

Like the lack of random tiger attacks. I swear, Greenpeace could come and repopulate the rest of Asia & India with the cats on this island and still leave a healthy tiger population behind :D
OMG THE LEGACY OF KAIN SERIES IS ON STEAM NOW!!!!!
WOHOOOOO!
I predicted this would happen after I saw the old tomb raider games get added, since theyre from the same developer.

good job steam. good job
A+
Almost, but not quite my friend. Neither Blood Omens are on Steam yet. Blood Omen 1 doesn't surprise me, but lacking Blood Omen 2? That's a bit of a shock.

I want to buy this for sure, just trying to control myself and wait til after I finish Hitman and Dishonored.

I'm thrilled that I got the DRM-Free versions off GOG during their last big Square-Enix sale, and I think it's great that the Soul Reaver titles have shown up on Steam, as well. (I believe the GOG sale price for each of the Soul Reaver titles was $2.39, which was/is excellent.)

It's a shame that the Blood Omen games are absent - I believe GOG has Blood Omen 2, but not 1. Does anyone know why the original Blood Omen is held up? (For example, the possibility that it's a Windows 95 port that doesn't play nicely with any other iterations of Windows? In that regard, Konami PC ports, like Silent Hill 2 and Shadow of Destiny, come to mind.)

I have the GoG versions but would love to have the Steam versions just so I can have a Steam-based copy. I guess I'll double dip during the winter sale.
