Welcome to the Steam Deal Thread V5! You can find link to past threads at the bottom of this post. Read post #2 of this thread for Steam FAQs and more.

This is a Wiki post. Please read this
We appreciate you helping keep this thread up to date. The sales change virtually every day so no one person has the time to update them all. If you notice a game is no longer on sale, feel free to delete its line from the sale list. Of course, if you see a game is on sale, add it to the list. Make sure your changes match the thread's format! For example, every game that's on sale is part of an unordered list. When adding a game to the list, copy an existing line and update the link, title, and prices. That way, the format stays correct. Do not list percentages off! We list the original price and the sale price here. If you have any suggestions for major changes to the post/thread, PM me (EastX) about them.
for instructions on updating the thread.

Preorder Deals - Updated 10/28
Group Buys - Updated 8/14

Several multiplayer Steam games are available in 2-packs or 4-packs. These packs offer a discount over buying multiple copies of a game separately. We also maintain group buy trade threads for several games, so please use those threads if you're interested in setting up a group buy.

Free Stuff - Updated 4/3

There are several free games and mods on Steam. These are a few choice ones; you can find a full list here. Note that free games are not permanently attached to your Steam account like actual purchases would be. You'll need to manually download a game again from the website if you uninstall it.

Steam around CAG

If you are interested in joining the Steam CAG Community or participating in a trade or group buy with fellow Cheap Ass Gamers, please do so in the dedicated threads and not in the deal discussion thread. In the dedicated threads you will find CAGers with the same specialized interest who will be much quicker (and happier) to respond than in the Deals thread.

Steam Retail Key List

What is a CD key and where can I find it?

https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=7480-WUSF-3601

The CD Key is a serial number with a combination of 13, 18, or 25 letters and numbers - it can be found on a sticker inside your game's case or printed on the game's quick reference card.
The CD Key acts as your proof of purchase for the game - Steam Support may ask for it if you need to establish your ownership of an account. It is recommended that you keep your CD Key in a safe place to ensure the security of your account.

Oh, I see, It was a glitch. No matter. That extra $5 isn't gonna make the difference to me. I wasn't gonna buy it anyway.

maybe you have some extra discount from owning a related title?

Ooooh @ Walking Dead might be on sale.
Thanks for the heads-up.

I'm downloading the demo for Tryst now. It at least looks neat. For the price of a 4 pack might be worth it. 4 pack shows up for me is $17.99

Thanks for the heads up, I will definitely keep my eye on that.
Though I've only had a small sample of the game, it has been positive. What do other CAG's think of Jet Set Radio's PC debut?
As I said earlier, I had framerate issues where the game would run too slow. I got the hack someone did on the Steam forum, which did address the problem.

The other thing is that I probably will need to play this with a controller. Keyboard just isn't cutting it.
Not for me.

Do you own APOX on Steam? Maybe it's a loyalty discount from the Publisher?
I think that's it. I have Apox from a Build-a-Bundle. I'm showing $7.50 for the single and $17.99 for the 4-pack.

I think JSR is a great port. It looks great and renders at 1920x1200. I don't recall encountering any serious framerate issues. It's a console game -- use a controller. It requires some precise control, which makes me really wonder how the Android port plays.
I want a game based on Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead.
More generally, one incorporating various works that play off of Shakespeare, like that one and Goodnight Desdemona (Good Morining Juliet).

I'd like to see a King Lear game.

Walking Dead style.

No matter what choices you make, everybody dies and everything falls apart.

And thanks to UM for the mini-review of Hamlet. I had already gathered that the game probably didn't have much to do with the play, but it looked interesting nonetheless. Unfortunately, making things artificially hard because of stupid interface decisions is a big turn-off for me.
Sorry, I couldn't resist.
Looks cute for 99 cents.

Watch it end up on Steam someday...for $10.

*Edit: Never mind. It's Chillingo, which was assimilated in the EA collective hive. Probably more likely to end up on Origin. Still for $10 though. Mobile games ported to the PC somehow never get sold for mobile prices, until they realize no one is buying it and throw it into a bundle, that is.

Interesting, it would make sense based on the little footer image on the recent sale email I got from them. "Save the Date 12/10/12 to Save Yourself." Both games deal with the end of the world as we know it.....

Choose windows 7 and then flash for other browsers. Pretty sure that's what worked for me.
Thanks, I'll try that tonight. Pretty sure I went there and didn't see Windows 8 options and wasn't sure if 7 would work.

So far Windows 8 is somewhat annoying, but it was the cheapest option on my new build. I can probably live with it. One big hassle was the upgrade assistant that grabs the iso file reads your current OS and downloads 32 or 64 bit based off that instead of giving you an option. So if you want 64 bit, make sure you use the upgrade assistant on a 64 bit OS and save the file to a usb when given that option.

I just got Start 8 from Stardock and most times I pretty much forget it's not Windows 7.

I really haven't run into any issues with Windows 8. The flash videos work fine on Steam for me and I didn't have to reinstall or anything but maybe I updated some point along the way while I was still on Windows 7, I don't know.

Quite the glut of Borderlands 2 golden key codes. Makes me wonder if I should go ahead and install the game to redeem them although apparently it's scaled to your level so wouldn't be much point as I don't plan to playthrough right now.

You can redeem the keys and store them till you're higher level. You haven't actually used the keys granted by redeeming these codes till you open a chest in a hub-area later on.

After having good first impressions with Jet Set Radio, I decided to give Crazy Taxi a shot. As a note, if the Draw Distance is set to "Far" in the Configuration utility, the game will crash when loading the level. (As an added issue, the number of resolutions available is noticeably more restricting than Jet Set Radio.)

I'm glad SEGA made the decision to give Jet Set Radio more attention. Crazy Taxi works, but it's definitely not among the better Dreamcast-to-PC ports.

EDIT: I just tried Sonic Adventure DX, and I'm surprised it's different than the official PC version. (The Steam version seems to be an emulated version of the Dreamcast game.) That's an odd choice on SEGA's part, since Sonic Adventure DX's official PC version supports higher resolutions as well as Widescreen.

I don't see what's crazy about someone suggesting that a game where you deliberately wreck police cars might not be appropriate for all 10 year olds. Most such games (e.g. Most Wanted) are rated teen exactly as she suggests. The fact that you can't even imagine anyone having an objection suggests that you don't have a normal perspective on violence and/or the police.

That's a somewhat hyperbolic stance to take.

The first two sentences would have sufficed.

It's a straight port, and it's horrible. Even the highest resolution you can choose in the game (1024x768) is scaled 640x480, so it looks horrible. Read over here for the full details; the Steam version is a joke:

Agreed. That's a rather strict approach towards things (my parents were strict too; I couldn't play games with blood in them till I just started buying them myself, which they still were annoyed about), but it's ultimately the parent's decision.
Thanks. Guess I could just install it and level up to get to Sanctuary.
You dont have to do that much. Just install. At the main menu under extras is the option to redeem your codes. Just make sure you have signed up for shift and the first time you enter a code you can link your account I believe.
What if sex was a MMO...?

EDIT:

Is there DRM?

Does it use Steamworks?
If yes - does it have an "offline mode?"

Or is it DRM-FREE?
I wonder if Tony could pricematch this. :bouncy:
Or maybe even come up w/ an AWESOME bundle! :whistle2:X
I don't see what's crazy about someone suggesting that a game where you deliberately wreck police cars might not be appropriate for all 10 year olds. I think the issue would be more with being seemingly oblivious to games, yet claiming to be a gamer. Also, to relying on some arbitrary rating for your parenting choices.

I think any gamer who is even somewhat familiar with games in general knows that 95% of your racing games out there will have some sort of crash component. A lot of them will have a cop component.

You'd think if they had the time to write a review, they'd also take 5 minutes prior to purchase to research the game.

Or at the very least look at it. The front cover of Carbon has two cars crashing into each other. The back specifically mentions cop cars and heat.
Oh wait, I said Sonic Adventure DX is a straight port. It's not. It's a straight port from the XBLA version, which is an utter mess.
Damn Idiotekque, it must be a slow day on the forums if you've taken to correcting yourself, instead of waiting for someone else to do it for you. ;)

P.S. Is Space Channel 5 suffering from the same treatment?

No idea what that was supposed to mean, lol.

Gametap has the XCOM Slingshot DLC in.

So if you're like me and have been sitting on that 5 dollar voucher from awhile back, you can pick up the DLC for 2 bucks.
Judging from porn sales, it also comes with a singleplayer mode.
I found that it's easiest to start in single player to get your bearings. After that, play with a bot to get an idea of what it's like in 2-player without the possibility of utterly embarrassing yourself. Once you have the confidence, it's time to see if anyone's looking for a match.

Don't mind my embarrassing performance, I'm just here to have fun!
