Welcome to the Steam Deal Thread V5! You can find link to past threads at the bottom of this post. Read post #2 of this thread for Steam FAQs and more.

This is a Wiki post. Please read this
We appreciate you helping keep this thread up to date. The sales change virtually every day so no one person has the time to update them all. If you notice a game is no longer on sale, feel free to delete its line from the sale list. Of course, if you see a game is on sale, add it to the list. Make sure your changes match the thread's format! For example, every game that's on sale is part of an unordered list. When adding a game to the list, copy an existing line and update the link, title, and prices. That way, the format stays correct. Do not list percentages off! We list the original price and the sale price here. If you have any suggestions for major changes to the post/thread, PM me (EastX) about them.
for instructions on updating the thread.

Preorder Deals - Updated 10/28
Group Buys - Updated 8/14

Several multiplayer Steam games are available in 2-packs or 4-packs. These packs offer a discount over buying multiple copies of a game separately. We also maintain group buy trade threads for several games, so please use those threads if you're interested in setting up a group buy.

Free Stuff - Updated 4/3

There are several free games and mods on Steam. These are a few choice ones; you can find a full list here. Note that free games are not permanently attached to your Steam account like actual purchases would be. You'll need to manually download a game again from the website if you uninstall it.

Steam around CAG

If you are interested in joining the Steam CAG Community or participating in a trade or group buy with fellow Cheap Ass Gamers, please do so in the dedicated threads and not in the deal discussion thread. In the dedicated threads you will find CAGers with the same specialized interest who will be much quicker (and happier) to respond than in the Deals thread.

Steam Retail Key List

What is a CD key and where can I find it?

https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=7480-WUSF-3601

The CD Key is a serial number with a combination of 13, 18, or 25 letters and numbers - it can be found on a sticker inside your game's case or printed on the game's quick reference card.
The CD Key acts as your proof of purchase for the game - Steam Support may ask for it if you need to establish your ownership of an account. It is recommended that you keep your CD Key in a safe place to ensure the security of your account.
BTW, for those who are interested, a new Broken Sword just went up on Kickstarter. Not a huge fan of the series, but I'm sure there are some who are interested.

Is there a promise in there that George Stobbart dies an awful and horrible death? If so, I might just chip in a lot to see that. :bouncy:

This looks very interesting, I might just consider this one. Thanks for bring it up.

KOTOR 2?!?!?!?!?!?!?

Now if only there were a sale price with it... Even for like $7.50 I would snatch this up again. Something about $10 just seems high.

Bought BeMine at the Dollar level. Unlike the Indie Royale album, I listened to the preview of the $5 level music and decided I can live without it. At least until the secret item is revealed.

Never played either Giana Sisters game, the PC one or the DS successor, but I am aware of them. I'll keep an eye on the Kickstarter, but only out of interest in seeing it happen rather than a desire to play it.

I love it when the weekend deals come up on Thursday. Even if they're games I already have, I like being reminded that it's almost the weekend. :D
In for $1

maybe more if the bonuses are any good...but at this point im not shelling out another 4 for the Guns of Icarus beta......
Same here.

Calling level 1 a "goal" is a bit off. More like a requirement or minimum. Hopefully there's new games in the future bonuses and not just music.

For anyone with Paypal Smart Connect: check your e-mails for an offer to add $10 credit to your account.

*Subject to credit approval. Cardholders must make at least 3 purchases with their PayPal Smart Connect Card now through September 6, 2012 that post to the account by September 13, 2012, in order to qualify for a $10 statement credit. Please allow up to 2 billing cycles for your statement credit to post to your PayPal Smart Connect account. Account must remain open, be in good standing and not become delinquent.

I never received a card, so I'm assuming this works with online purchases. I'm also going to assume it will work with 3 separate transactions of the Just Cause 2 DLC for $0.24 each since there is no mention of minimum purchase. Getting $10 credit for 72 cents? I'm willing to try it. That's at least three games during the Australian Summer sale! ;)

I liked it, only played the SP campaign, but I thought it was pretty decent.
If you are a user (like me) who wants to use a gamepad and is used to playing with an inverted y axis - they left that option completely out of the PC version for some asinine reason.
I found a x360ce patch to make it work, but it was pretty irritating to have to jump through hoops to get full gamepad support on what is basically a console port.

Yeah, George is a big reason why I have no desire to play the other games.

It will be like Jade Empire with no sale for years, then they finally throw us a bone only to screw us after the sale.

Some hints on the upcoming #IG8 ....
- The complete collection of an awesome and award-winning action - RPG
- One of the few games that bring the tactical and strategic warfare of World War 2 to the PC.
- One of the most original and irreverent games ever made.. where you play as...
- A solid driving simulator where every regulation of chassis matters.

Plus 5 other great games! ( hints in the next days! )

How is this even possible without access to source code? Regardless I'm happy that people capable of PC voodoo magic is enthusiastic about Dark Souls. Now really considering on jumping in especially since Torchlight 2 hasn't been released yet I'm itching to play some online rpg game before life gets busy again.

He basically intercepted the .dll calls between the engine and directx. There is a lot more to it then that, but that is the most simplest way of putting it.

No idea what your talking about, but seems legit :) I'm just glad a few people understands and willing to dedicate their time in doing fixes/modding such as this for the community. From a preview of this game I heard it was pretty painful to play on keyboard/mouse, and framerate issues still persists. I don't mind the control issues as much, but hopefully someone would be able to fix framerate issues.

Damn, no wonder I saw 40 people giving Revelations 2012 away on steamgifts.com. In for this bundle unless someone would like to gift it to me. (then i could always have that excuse in my back pocket) I actually want to buy Revelations, I'm so pathetic
Indie Gala 8 sounds promising. Definitely in for a group buy.
Sounds like another batch of 1c games to me: King's Bounty, Theater/Men of War, etc. If you bought the GG 1c complete bundle (or you are going to buy the upcoming Amazon one) then it's probably not worth it unless you want the Steam keys so badly. Hoping to be proved wrong...
Really curious what the ARPG series is... no way it's Gothic. Couldn't really find any likely candidates on Steam.
My bet is Sacred Gold. It's on Steam and published by Strategy First (publisher for some games in other IG bundles). It's cheap enough to be in an Indie Gala bundle, and fits the "complete collection" hint.

King's Bounty is only listed as an RPG on Steam if that means anything, but it does seem likely.

Hint #2 is referring to Achtung Panzer: Operation Star I believe as it's word for word from a review about the game. If this is correct, then who knows what we're looking at since it's not on Steam.

Good catch. Seems likely. I'll kick myself a bit if they include Dark Star One as I just bought it during the Summer Sale for $2.50ish. Ah well, just means some lucky Coconut Queen will get my spare key from my $1.50ish group buy!

Re: King's Bounty. It's not an action RPG. Doesn't really fit the description.

Re: Achtung Panzer. It's not on Steam but it is a Strategy First published game. I think we're looking at a Strategy First bundle.

I'm really curious about the ARPG series as well, since I enjoy playing those games a lot. Definitely excited for IG8 when it releases.
For Just Cause 2, are any of the DLC like must haves or really good? I know they are cheap, but I am cheaper if they really aren't all that.
Nope.

And don't stress about the plot, or doing anything 'just right' in this game. Treat it like a cheesy 80's action movie, with horrible plot and voice acting, but lots of actions and over the top explosions.
Haha I know! That is what I was thinking and makes me want to just pick it up at $10...
As dumb as it sounds, if it had Steam achievements, I'd have no problem with paying $10 for it. Since it apparently doesn't, I shall wait and hope for a sale.

I actually misinterpreted it's not really 'series' but 'collection' so, as sunghost notes, Sacred Gold would fit this as it's the game + expansion.

My guesses:

- The complete collection of an awesome and award-winning action - RPG

Sacred Gold

- One of the few games that bring the tactical and strategic warfare of World War 2 to the PC.

Achtung Panzer.

- One of the most original and irreverent games ever made.. where you play as...

Ghost Master.

- A solid driving simulator where every regulation of chassis matters.

One of the Flatout games.

Other stuff will probably include Dark Star One (argh why did I buy this during the Summer Sale!), Disciples, Space Empire, Port Royal, etc.

Those seem very likely, not sure about the driving simulator though. I was actually very tempted to get Ghost Master and Dark Star One during the summer steam sale.. glad I passed on them now.

Dark Star One is an okay game. I stuck it through to the end but thought about quitting numerous times. 'Shallow' is the best descriptive I could give it and it's really a shame. The engine is nice and they have a solid framework in place to make an interesting experience but it's basically just slaughtering system after system of generic pirates while you upgrade your ship and slog through fairly repetitive missions. There's basically no point in trading or accepting mercenary missions at the various trade stations.
For Just Cause 2, are any of the DLC like must haves or really good? I know they are cheap, but I am cheaper if they really aren't all that.
None are at all necessary, but the Black Market Boom pack (now 49 cents) includes the Air Propulsion gun, which sounds lame, but is actually the best way to clear out crowded, heavily armed places. It sort of makes you invincible to close-range attacks and for some of the tougher missions is almost indispensable. I've certainly gotten my 2 quarters' worth out of that DLC pack. Every other piece of DLC isn't as good as the stuff you'll find easily in the game.

Possibly that. Never really played the Flatout games (or any driving game, not a fan of the genre) so that guess was a bit uneducated.

Damn I bought Ghostmaster for 9.99 back in 2003 lol. (rebought on steam during summer sale) caved into the wife.
I'll pick up Skyrim in 2012 in the Indiegala XXX and finally see why Nancy is a happy whore.
I am. Just meaning REALLY FROM SOFTWARE? REALLY?
More people need to say this about Bethesda. The company in capable of spending a couple minutes merely resizing the interface/text which is always one of the first available mods made by the community in every single one of their games.

Editors or tools are not required to mod games although with those tools more complex or efficient ones may become available. So what they did was most likely quite simple, at least in how it modified the game.

EDIT: I am quite happy to hear about that resolution fix and am also happy about the ability to pre-load it on steam.

Dark Star One shot itself in the foot when the developers praised it pre-release as being a better Freelancer. Then it came out, and completely paled in comparison to Freelancer. Yes, it's a pretty game, but I've heard complaints from every side of the spectrum. Recycled starscapes, only one ship with weak customization, shallow black and white story/factions, etc. Freelancer was an incredible game, even if it didn't have awe-inspiring graphics.

That said, I've still always wanted to give it a shot. In an indie bundle, it's perfect.

The hovercraft is a lot of fun. Very tough with a big gun and the obvious ability to drive it over land and sea. It's my favorite of the DLC.

The downside to the DLC is having to buy the item itself from the black market which means you can't enjoy them with impunity.
This almost perfectly describes it. Turrets completely destroy everything though. I tried playing the game again after running through X3 and it felt so empty. Obviously not a great comparison due to the depth of X3; DS1 is an alright diversion but there are other space combat sims out there to play. Then again it's a good way to see if you like the genre/a game to play after you've played all the others.

It had potential. There's like no variations to the missions. It's really a shame, cause it could have been as good as Freelancer.

Not sure if anyone is a Front Mission fan, but Front Mission Evolved is on sale for $5.20 on GamersGate before IGN discount.

The cheapest it's been on Steam is $7.50 from what I can see, and the game is Steamworks, so it seems like a solid deal.

The game gets some mixed reviews, especially since it's an action game (more like the Armored Core series), rather than a turn based strategy RPG like the rest of the Front Mission series. That said, the combat is supposed to be pretty solid, the graphics look pretty impressive, and the explosions are supposed to be gorgeous. The biggest complaints I've heard about it have been that the on-foot missions are boring, and that the voice acting is sub-par.

Just thought I'd bring it up since it's a game that rarely goes on a good sale. Amazon just had it for $9.99 a month or two ago. $5.20 is the best I've ever seen on it by far.

There was that one mission in the turret where the more you leveled up your ship the harder it was. That provided a bit of variety, but not the good kind.

Spoilers but it details the issue with that mission.

Yeah I noticed, I'll probably pick it up before this weeks sales end on gamersgate. I wanna make sure it doesn't end up as a daily before I grab it. It's supposedly not a very good game, but I like bad games so I might as well try it!

I'm a huge Front Mission and Armored Core fan myself, so any mashup of the two will likely be fun for me, lol. I have heard quite a bit of reviews saying that the gameplay itself is pretty solid though, so for $5.20 I figure, why not?

Is it a part of this week's sales? I don't want to wait too long and miss it, but like you said, I'm hoping it hits a daily. I have no idea how GamersGate sales work, lol.
