Welcome to the Steam Deal Thread V5! You can find link to past threads at the bottom of this post. Read post #2 of this thread for Steam FAQs and more.

This is a Wiki post. Please read this
We appreciate you helping keep this thread up to date. The sales change virtually every day so no one person has the time to update them all. If you notice a game is no longer on sale, feel free to delete its line from the sale list. Of course, if you see a game is on sale, add it to the list. Make sure your changes match the thread's format! For example, every game that's on sale is part of an unordered list. When adding a game to the list, copy an existing line and update the link, title, and prices. That way, the format stays correct. Do not list percentages off! We list the original price and the sale price here. If you have any suggestions for major changes to the post/thread, PM me (EastX) about them.
for instructions on updating the thread.

Preorder Deals - Updated 10/28
Group Buys - Updated 8/14

Several multiplayer Steam games are available in 2-packs or 4-packs. These packs offer a discount over buying multiple copies of a game separately. We also maintain group buy trade threads for several games, so please use those threads if you're interested in setting up a group buy.

Free Stuff - Updated 4/3

There are several free games and mods on Steam. These are a few choice ones; you can find a full list here. Note that free games are not permanently attached to your Steam account like actual purchases would be. You'll need to manually download a game again from the website if you uninstall it.

Steam around CAG

If you are interested in joining the Steam CAG Community or participating in a trade or group buy with fellow Cheap Ass Gamers, please do so in the dedicated threads and not in the deal discussion thread. In the dedicated threads you will find CAGers with the same specialized interest who will be much quicker (and happier) to respond than in the Deals thread.

Steam Retail Key List

What is a CD key and where can I find it?

https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=7480-WUSF-3601

The CD Key is a serial number with a combination of 13, 18, or 25 letters and numbers - it can be found on a sticker inside your game's case or printed on the game's quick reference card.
The CD Key acts as your proof of purchase for the game - Steam Support may ask for it if you need to establish your ownership of an account. It is recommended that you keep your CD Key in a safe place to ensure the security of your account.

Thanks for the tip, louiedog, but I think they've changed things. I show no keys on my purchase history and MoW:Vietnam isn't showing up in their store right now either.
double edit: Looks like it's dead; order's been cancelled on my GameFly account.

edit: Also, thanks to The End, for helping me get in on an Indie Royale sub-$5 for the first time in a while!

I think I'm going to skip this IR, only have any interest in Analogue, but I'm not really sure if I would play it. Thanks for the heads up though, you were faster than their twitter.
Get Men of War: Vietnam free from Gamefly until 8/30.
It's currently $34.99 on Steam.

link

You'll need a free gamefly account and a credit card. The one I have on file with them that expired 2 years ago was enough to complete the order so I'm guessing they aren't actually verifying the number that you put in. After placing your order go to your purchase history and you'll see two keys. Put the multiplayer key into Steam and it will be added to your library.
Thanks! Unfortunately MoW:Vietnam is MIA now.
Indie Royale Getaway Bundle is live.

Shattered Horizon for: steam (pc) (req. Direct X 10 + Video Card, Win 7 or Vista)
Analogue: A Hate Story for: steam (pc, mac), windows, mac, linux, desura (includes OST & DLC)
Da New Guys for: windows, desura (includes OST)
Super Amazing Wagon Adventure for: windows, desura (Indie Royale exclusive debut)
Waves for: steam (pc), windows, desura (includes OST)
MiniFlake for: windows, desura

Pay more than $8 and get the album Handheld Heroes Volume One by by Handheld Heroes
Awesome! Thanks! *Finally* got one of their bundles for under a Lincoln.
IndieGala 8 is also out. In for Sacred during happy hour.

Also bought the Royale Bundle, mostly for Analogue
Nice.. now to endure the few days of waiting for happy hour! Looks like we we guessed some of the games correctly.

Is this down already? The game doesn't seem to exist on gamefly anymore.

Yep. It looks like they ran out of keys.

Anyone want my 75% Portal 2 coupon? PM me and I'll send it your way.

Also looks like they took out MoW: Vietnam completely from the site (GF).

Didn't know there was so much interest in Virtua Tennis. I won it in the holiday event and it took me 7 months to find someone who wanted to trade for it.
Walking Dead is great. Though I imagine it might hit cheaper by the time all 5 episodes are out, especially in a Halloween sale.
I know it's CAG but this is my GOTY so far and even at full price, it's a steal.

Dark Fall: Lost Souls is the only game I am interested in IndieGala 8.

Anyone played that game and care to give a short review? Is Dark Fall similar to Amnesia?

Bought the new Indie Royale. Glad to get in early. After the last one, getting it when it's still around five bucks makes me feel fortunate. (And yes, I paid a penny above minimum.) Glad I held off on Analogue previously. I'll examine the other games in the pack later. Previewing the $8 level album right now, and it's not making an impression, so no regrets there.

Have all the games in the midweek deal bundle, so no need to ponder that one.

Now to wait for the Indiegala happy hour.

Super Monday Night Combat raptr reward for the summer pack. It includes a rubber duck and sunglasses. 2750 left. I assume that like other SMNC codes it must be redeemed in game and not on Steam.

Must be ranked newbie+ in MNC or SMNC and have your facebook account connected.

I have Virtua Tennis 2009 and I barely played it, I thought that building your player was too time consuming, it was very easy to win games as an amateur (almost all of my service returns were winners) but you had to play A LOT of tournaments to increase your ranking. The earlier versions were much more fun. Does anyone know how different is the new VT?

No clue but I loved Virtua Tennis on my dreamcast. I'm hoping its still got all the arcadey goodness of the one i played aged ago.

I have VT3 on PS3 and I didn't notice this problem. No idea about VT4, but I'm going to find out =D

So I wasn't paying attention and didn't realize I already owned Sacred Gold and tried to redeem the key for it from Indie Gala and got the "you already own this" message. Does that mean that I wasted the key for it from Indie Gala or is it still good for someone else to use?

It'll still be fine for anyone else to use. It hasn't been used.

Oh, sure. I bought a copy of Waves when it was on sale at GMG (+voucher) to give away at some point. Now the world will be flooded with copies.

Just another example of Big Indie screwin' the little guy :bomb:

I've been wanting to get Analogue for a while, and since $5 was the lowest it's been on Steam, I jumped on the bundle (I considered the other games extras haha).

How long does Analogue take to complete? I heard there are multiple endings as well... is it worth playing through multiple times to experience them?
Has anyone received a bonus copy of Starvoid after redeeming the free key from Fileplay?
Nope, I don't think anyone did. I think you either get a bonus copy once the game officially launches, or it was a typo in the giveaway description.

4 hours will see you all endings and extra dickibg around to get all cheevos. A single play is probably 1.5
There's a guy on NeoGAF selling Guild Wars 2 digital download codes for $36.72. I already bought two off of him and they're legit. Only thing is you have to be a registered user to be able to PM him, so I guess you have to know someone who is. Looks like he's sold quite a few of them.
Input on this? I messaged him and he said this:

Hi

Yep I have a few left. $36.72 Paypal to [email protected] , include your neogaf username - I'll PM over a code.

I bought a bunch back in April from a US authorized retailer. Sold a few to friends, now looking to sell the rest as demand is the highest it's been.

Cheers,

Now I am tempted to pick this up from him but I am still a bit leery. I have not kept up with prices for preorders and all of that or anything so I do not know how far fetched this story is or not.

Input oh lovely CAGs?

Alarms go off for me too. Anything like this sounds shady. Does anyone know if there was ever a super cheap pre-order glitch or something? My only guess would be that maybe this guy bought up a ton of collector's editions and is selling them off in pieces so he is just trying to get rid of the game codes since he doesn't need him? Still you'd think he'd do at least $40.

Also I don't know how Guildwars handles stolen keys.

I found this, it makes me feel better about maybe buying off of him?
That's in british pounds, so it is still around $40 american.

Also have you tried just asking him how he can sell them so cheap?
Crap, good catch. I thought it was Euro at first glance.

I asked him how he can and he gave me the response that I put above.

Bah, I told myself if I can get the game for around $35 I would get it. So it is either from this guy or I wait for a nice sale.

We have a CAG on here that has purchased two and says it has worked and multipe others on NeoGAF. I just worry that their servers are bogged now and then I can imagine some sort of purge after the first week or so and if the keys are not 100% legit then banned I go!

Yeah, I don't know enough about GW and how their sales work to know if our comrades in Russia are into the key business for them too. I think most of the international key sites I've been to offer it for sale, but at little to no discount.
I asked again how he got them so cheap and this was his response:

"When you buy in bulk you don't pay list price."

hmm
Yeah, this dude is definitely shady.

I doubt companies sell in bulk to individuals and bulk orders would need to be in the 100s or more I would think.

I mean, I think if companies could sell this for $36 bucks and make a profit they would so I would proceed with a lot of caution if I were to proceed at all.

When it sounds too good to be true, it probably is.
I have no idea if the deal is legit, but I'd rather wait for a sale than throw away money on a key that could be banned or purged later.

Just my opinion though.

Wow, so two indie bundles today and I really need to think about buying both of them.

I mean I want Analogue, but the rest of the games are meh. I wonder if Analogue won't be $2.50 in the winter sale.

I have no clue about Indie Gala games but they look kinda meh except for Sacred but I have enough to play.

I'm in the same boat. I want Analogue, but I already own one of the three games in the bundle, Shattered Horizon. I'll probably just wait for the winter sale, or try to barter off some other keys for it.

As for the Gala, I find that the biggest question isn't the quality of the games but the amount you get for the price. I get that it's not very beneficial or ethical to lowball their charity fundraisers, but they sort of promote it with the way Happy Hours work. I've done Happy Hour for every bundle they have that includes a Steam game, just because the games become so ridiculously cheap. I've played Dark Fall and Silent Hill Homecoming on Steam, and I prefer the former; there are some super disturbing horror elements in Dark Fall, and it's a clever puzzle game to boot. Ghost Master is a lighthearted, comical strategy game a la The Sims. Good games for less than $2 total.
