Welcome to the Steam Deal Thread V5! You can find link to past threads at the bottom of this post. Read post #2 of this thread for Steam FAQs and more.

This is a Wiki post. Please read this
We appreciate you helping keep this thread up to date. The sales change virtually every day so no one person has the time to update them all. If you notice a game is no longer on sale, feel free to delete its line from the sale list. Of course, if you see a game is on sale, add it to the list. Make sure your changes match the thread's format! For example, every game that's on sale is part of an unordered list. When adding a game to the list, copy an existing line and update the link, title, and prices. That way, the format stays correct. Do not list percentages off! We list the original price and the sale price here. If you have any suggestions for major changes to the post/thread, PM me (EastX) about them.
for instructions on updating the thread.

Preorder Deals - Updated 10/28
Group Buys - Updated 8/14

Several multiplayer Steam games are available in 2-packs or 4-packs. These packs offer a discount over buying multiple copies of a game separately. We also maintain group buy trade threads for several games, so please use those threads if you're interested in setting up a group buy.

Free Stuff - Updated 4/3

There are several free games and mods on Steam. These are a few choice ones; you can find a full list here. Note that free games are not permanently attached to your Steam account like actual purchases would be. You'll need to manually download a game again from the website if you uninstall it.

Steam around CAG

If you are interested in joining the Steam CAG Community or participating in a trade or group buy with fellow Cheap Ass Gamers, please do so in the dedicated threads and not in the deal discussion thread. In the dedicated threads you will find CAGers with the same specialized interest who will be much quicker (and happier) to respond than in the Deals thread.

Steam Retail Key List

What is a CD key and where can I find it?

https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=7480-WUSF-3601

The CD Key is a serial number with a combination of 13, 18, or 25 letters and numbers - it can be found on a sticker inside your game's case or printed on the game's quick reference card.
The CD Key acts as your proof of purchase for the game - Steam Support may ask for it if you need to establish your ownership of an account. It is recommended that you keep your CD Key in a safe place to ensure the security of your account.
So the Green Light Bundle ends Friday. I already own Dino Run SE on Desura, and Syder Arcade is the only other one that seemed interesting to me. They've sold 2000 bundles.

Anyone here buy in? Can anyone sell me on this, or should I go back to forgetting it was running?
I believe they have pledged that anyone who buys the bundle will receive Steam keys *if* the games make it on Steam. Being that those games have more exposure than most on Greenlight as a result of the bundle, I'd be surprised if several of them didn't get voted in. It's a dice roll now - $5 for X out of 9 bundled games - could be 1, could be all 9.
I appreciate your comments. It is true that I did "drag on" that conversation with Motoki awhile back with the "essay" post, but that was a concerted attempt to level with Motoki, apologize for certain things, and generally try to make peace with him. I realize long posts like that can be annoying though, and I would have kept it private between Motoki and I, but he had me on ignore. I also put the lengthy bits in spoiler tags after someone gave me the idea.

As for selling keys, a lot of people do it. Note that I'm not posting those advertisements though, they're just in my forum signature. I'm in a difficult spot and I don't have a steady job, so I do sell extra keys that I don't need that I get from various places (like bundles). That's the only way I can usually afford to buy games for myself... I'm sorry if it offends you and seems as if I'm trying to take advantage of the community, profiting off them, etc. I try to keep my prices reasonable, but I do understand what you're saying.

That said, I've bought keys from past bundles from people myself, and paid more than it cost them. I don't see it as them taking advantage of me, or my taking advantage of someone else. I actually appreciate the opportunity to buy bundles that I missed in the past. For example, a lot of people just got a Dirt Showdown key for free. I missed that, and I'd happily buy one for a reasonable price from someone who did get one. Again, I understand what you're saying though, and I'm sorry if it offends you.
As I said dude, I have no qualms against you. You can do what you want on these forums. If someone wants to buy it for 3 bucks because they missed the sale, thats cool. I am happy enough also being able to buy from group buys and getting past bundles for great prices. Honestly, you arent even the worst person to try to take advantage of people on these forums, just go look at the steam trade thread, many people there are obviously selling keys they got for a much lower price for a much higher price. It it just sad to see motoki go because he dislikes two people on this forum. I havent noticed him post in the past couple of weeks and I guess I know why now. As for the dirt showdown key, I recently got that in a great trade, idc if the person got it for free but I dont believe he did. Either way I got the game and am having a much better time with it than I would have with the key I traded him.

As for the greenlight bundle, if you have an android and dont have any of the games offered in the bundle, it is well worth it. The android games are what pushed me over the edge as I was already thinking about buying it without the android versions. Honestly, I have only played the android versions of the games but I do plan on installing them on my older mac laptop in the future to play while I am on vacation.
Console gamers are more likely to have well-worded, reasonably thought out discussions on topics that are important to them? I'm not sure I follow your logic here.
The implication is just the opposite. Check out the GoHastings thread for an example.

If I were the type of person that posted gifs to illustrate how I felt I about something I saw in a forum thread this is where I'd post one of someone running around in a very excited fashion.

The 100 dollar fee doesn't sit that well for me. At this moment the most popular stuff, some of them decently well known (at least as far as indie go) are barely making it past the 20 percent range. And this is at the height of Greenlight being used. It's only going to slow down. I can see people being discouraged to submit when even the most popular stuff is sitting so low, much like how many people have boycotted the IGF the last couple years. Hopefully they either find a better permanent solution or tweak the numbers massively.
Seems like a pretty quick turnaround for a numbered bundle. It's only been about two months since HB5. Not that I'm complaining.

I'd imagine that it will launch sometime over the next 48 hours. Thanks for the head's up.
They tend to throw up a random number though. I believe the Botanicula bundle was 6 or 7 in the registry before it launched, and Humble 5 (the real one) was 8.

They've said that 100% isn't needed to actually get a game listed. They're going to watch the numbers, see how things go, and tweak them. Even then 100% isn't going to be the deciding factor. They're going to look at how popular the games are, how much people are discussing them, how quickly they get support, etc. The percentage is more of a benchmark really, and very misleading.

Don't crush my dreams!

If you look at the registry it actually has a lot of HIB updates, most likely fixing all the old titles to be more accurate. So if they fixed them, it wouldn't make much sense to screw up already again.

Dont quite understand what you all mean by all of this? Does this mean the bundle should appear within the next few days or not? Either way, I am quite happy with the last humble bundle for android 3 as that is the only one I have had the joy of taking part in. But still, that bundle was great and has hundreds of hours of gameplay in it. If this next bundle is anything like that then I am really looking forward to all future Humble Bundles.

Damnit, just after I was happy to see you posting again Motoki! You add a lot to this forum, and help bring interesting perspective to what we would otherwise regard as bundle/sale chaff. Most place on the interwebs I just lurk, too many forums have more nastiness than I would care to expose myself to/get involved in, but lurking here for months, CAG revealed itself to be a great litte community. I think a lot of other CAGs in the last few pages expressed this and appreciation for you as a part of this community better than I.

Despite side-channel discussions I feel directly responsible for indirectly igniting events two weeks back. Please don't leave! Else I will have to take full responsibility. :seppuku: (why isn't there an animated smiley for this?)
I wish there was some requirement as far as having a working product/beta/alpha to submit prior to entering greenlight.
Working downloadable demo or GTFO! (Seriously this makes a lot of sense.)
Yes, I have, and no I didn't see any on the menu. It's been a while though. I haven't had any luck finding it in any of the Korean joints here in Chicago either. Can you recommend one?
There used be one north of Belmont on Clark across the street from a mongolian BBQ. There is a good chance there is at least one in Chinatown (Red Line-Cermak) there is a good size two-level strip mall on Cermak there with a buncha places to eat as well as a bunch of places on S Wentworth. Area is safe. Stay West of State St.
lol, but have you been to Korea?
Beijing used to have a bunch. I hear that government officials prepping for the '08 Olympics forced it off the menu in a lot of places. "Fragrant meat"

Somehow I don't think even the Chicago DPH would let them get away with that. But if it shows up at the next Taste, I'm in for 2.

edit: Was going to bring this up earlier but to try to veer back on-topic:
Borderlands 1 had partial drop in/out. Public games allowed this as long as the host did not leave. Private games didn't have an auto-allow friends to join option, but your friends could drop in/out if you send invites to them, which takes 20 seconds max. Honestly, never had an issue with that aspect of the game as my friends would play for long stretches of time and set up time was negligible in comparison. BL1 had issues, but very little were with core gameplay mechanics; mostly pretty bad UI design, inconsistent pacing problems, or physics engine issues with specific locations/vehicle control.
I should have been clearer about the DI/DO stuff, but I meant it was hard to progress in the story if your friends weren't doing it at the same pace as you (missions greyed out and such) and the auto-level-scaling of enemies in a mixed-leveled group was a bit frustrating as well. But I agree with those other issues; thanks for mentioning them.
The implication is just the opposite. Check out the GoHastings thread for an example.
That was my point exactly, but thanks anyway for restating it.

What this means is that, though it is in the system currently as "HIB 6," it may not be the sixth numbered bundle but another sub-bundle like when they do one for a single developer or the Android rehashes. Probably the former rather than the latter since they just did an Android one.

Whatever it is, it should appear very soon.
If you look at the registry it actually has a lot of HIB updates, most likely fixing all the old titles to be more accurate. So if they fixed them, it wouldn't make much sense to screw up already again.
Yeah, all of the older humble bundles are now listed correctly if you check the your licenses/subscriptions.
If the Android bundle is all you know then, son, you ain't seen nothing yet~
Hahaha, while I definitely appreciate you comment, I have read about past bundles and have already taken part in the steam 2012 summer sale as well as the amazon 2012 summer sale. This last HIBfA3 (especially since it happened a few days after I got my first android) was absolutely amazing for me. While I have not gotten all the games in the past HIBs, I can safely say that I have gotten most of the games I want from them even if I have paid a few more dollars for them. This last bundle was just the icing on the cake as I paid a buck for a bunch of awesome games I did not have on either android or the PC. This combined with the recent indie gala and groupees bundles, I am a new PC gamer that is quite happy. My 360, wii, n64, and original xbox will never be sold, and these cheap PC games along with the power of my new PC can and will never be replaced.

Ahh, thank you very much for explaining. I guess its just like when steam added games to their registry yet we still were not 100% sure of their sales. HIB is just more secretive by not even letting us know what games they will be offering. Either way it is great that we all know another bundle is coming soon.

EDIT: sorry about double post. noticed other post after I posted my first one.

I played Borderlands solo (140 hours according to steam -- though that overcounts a bit due to extended afk pauses) and regularly found myself overleveled. I found it WillowTree quite useful to knock down my level (and reset the occasional lets-do-that-again quest).

Give it half an hour. If nobody has obliged by the time I get to work I'll dig out one of a fox (Not CheapLikeA) on a trampoline.

Who knows, it might just be me. An ex exploited my trusting nature as a fox in love and released many compromising pictures of me, including one on a trampoline.
Looks like Spirits is on Steam now. Does that mean whoever beat the average on the Humble Android Bundle 3 got a Steam key for it?
I BTA'd and got a Steam key before it released and activated it without a hitch, and the store page says I own it now that it's officially released, so yes. :)

Ahh, I couldn't convince my myself to jump on it. Oh well; probably wouldn't have gotten around to playing it anytime soon anyways.

Don't worry, Severose buys everything even if he doesn't play it! Us true CAGs will wait until it hits $2.49 ;)

So I bought the Torchlight II 4-pack and it seems to be glitched. I dunno if anybody has mentioned it yet- didn't bother looking through the entire thread.

You're supposed to get 4 copies of TL and 4 copies of TL2- 3 giftable of each. I only got 3 copies of TL2- 1 for me, and 2 giftable copies. I got 4 giftable copies of TL- dunno if that's a glitch, or because I already own TL.

Looked around and it seems several other people have had similar problems. I saw something that said that the missing copy of TL2 will show up in you inventory after a few hours, but I'm not sure whether or not that's the case, so I still contacted Steam support.
I just saw that this morning. Pretty great news! Maybe a lot of people don't care (judging from the comments in that article), but I think it's always a good sign when large companies realize that intrusive DRM harms paying customers, not software pirates.
I really hope this means they're going to remove the always on from existing games that have it. I could finally buy AssCreed Revelations.

I thought this was sort of old news though and despite what they said last year they still kept always on DRM in a few games?

Are they saying they are completely removing it? Or is the guy basically regurgitating what they said last year?
Greenlight is about to get a bit more manageable to browse. They're instituting a $100 fee to list a game and instead of throwing the entire list at you will, they'll show you a smaller mix of popular and new games.

The fee won't be profit, they are donating that money to charity. $100 is a bit much, but if you can't throw $100 down to try and get your game listed it probably isn't something that's going to have much of a shot. I'm not sure how much different it would be at $50 though. I'm sure a small dev in a developing country who is working without pay until the game releases will feel it a lot more, too.

announcement
Cool. I posted here when Greenlight first started that they needed $100 fee or something to get rid of the junk. It just got too unmanageable to rate games honestly.

Wooo, found it. I like my idea that if the game makes it you recoup the fee, the rest can still go to charity.
Until they get an initial filter to get rid of the garbage before it can even be voted, I don't see anything making it.

There should be a fee to get your stuff listed on greenlight to help clean it up. $100 sounds reasonable. Then if your game makes it you recoup those initial costs.
Sorry for double post. On mobile so no multi-quote unless I manually do it, and my phone hates copy/paste on cag for some reason.

Yea for Ubisoft. I hope they stick with this very standard process. I never understood why Anno had (has) such hard DRM. I hope that's scaled back too.

Steam arbitrarily names the HIB with whatever number they feel like. Odds are this is another bundle like the android or a themed dev bundle. I wouldn't expect HIB 6 until around Xmas.

I suspect today or tomorrow with a higher likelihood of the latter. It used to show up in the registry pretty well in advance and you'd know the games like a week early. The last few have been added only a day or two before the start of the bundle and then updated with games a couple of hours before it's live.

EDIT: Also some interesting news:

Well, it's a positive step forward for Ubisoft to even say things like that publicly, so that's good. I'd still prefer if they removed all DRM in the instances where their games are sold on places like Steam where the Steam client already verifies content ownership. But we'll accept baby steps from Ubisoft at this point.

>.> Or if you were watching you were able to pick it up for $0.99 on Google Play this weekend, thread.

I think that's an old Ubi announcement. Remember that always-on just doesn't go over well (e.g. Diablo 3) even the Big Shill review sites slammed AC2 for the always-on DRM. Personally I refused to by AC2 and AC:B until the always-on bit was dropped.
Anyone play this and have an opinion? Looks interesting.
Never played it, but I see that it has a demo.

NecroVision was in an indie bundle, I'm guessing Indie Gala: The Reckoning or possibly Indie Gala: The Reckoninger. It's sat in my backlog.

Obviously I haven't played it. I'd be terribly surprised if anybody actually has
