Welcome to the Steam Deal Thread V5! You can find link to past threads at the bottom of this post. Read post #2 of this thread for Steam FAQs and more.

This is a Wiki post. Please read this
We appreciate you helping keep this thread up to date. The sales change virtually every day so no one person has the time to update them all. If you notice a game is no longer on sale, feel free to delete its line from the sale list. Of course, if you see a game is on sale, add it to the list. Make sure your changes match the thread's format! For example, every game that's on sale is part of an unordered list. When adding a game to the list, copy an existing line and update the link, title, and prices. That way, the format stays correct. Do not list percentages off! We list the original price and the sale price here. If you have any suggestions for major changes to the post/thread, PM me (EastX) about them.
for instructions on updating the thread.

Preorder Deals - Updated 10/28
Group Buys - Updated 8/14

Several multiplayer Steam games are available in 2-packs or 4-packs. These packs offer a discount over buying multiple copies of a game separately. We also maintain group buy trade threads for several games, so please use those threads if you're interested in setting up a group buy.

Free Stuff - Updated 4/3

There are several free games and mods on Steam. These are a few choice ones; you can find a full list here. Note that free games are not permanently attached to your Steam account like actual purchases would be. You'll need to manually download a game again from the website if you uninstall it.

Steam around CAG

If you are interested in joining the Steam CAG Community or participating in a trade or group buy with fellow Cheap Ass Gamers, please do so in the dedicated threads and not in the deal discussion thread. In the dedicated threads you will find CAGers with the same specialized interest who will be much quicker (and happier) to respond than in the Deals thread.

Steam Retail Key List

What is a CD key and where can I find it?

https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=7480-WUSF-3601

The CD Key is a serial number with a combination of 13, 18, or 25 letters and numbers - it can be found on a sticker inside your game's case or printed on the game's quick reference card.
The CD Key acts as your proof of purchase for the game - Steam Support may ask for it if you need to establish your ownership of an account. It is recommended that you keep your CD Key in a safe place to ensure the security of your account.
I tend to agree with that too, but the pre-order stuff seems worth it enough. I know I'm going to want the Mechromancer class the second it's released, so... :whistle2:#
I was under the impression that the mechromancer class was for the less skilled making it kind of like a "girlfriend" class.

lol, I have no idea, I just think it sounds like a badass idea. Necromancer of the future. ;)

EDIT: Ah, I just looked it up. I see what you're saying. This sounds interesting though:
Hemingway told Eurogamer in an interview that he's thinking about using one of the Mechromancer's other skill trees as a counter point to the Best Friends Forever "girlfriend mode".

"Right now, I'm thinking of it as a hardcore mode. So if you are a really expert player, and you want to do some tricky, difficult things, this is the tree for you, for just a totally different experience. We're not ready to talk about it, because we have no idea if it's even going to pan out. But we've got some interesting ideas there."

Dump the Agility 3, when amazon has the 128GB agility 4 for $55 AR right now(are you a CAG or an imposter? really man, use a deals site). And if you can, look for or wait for a deal on a Samsung 830 SSD drive. its faster and more reliable, and on sale NO more than $20 more than that 3.
I have been tempted by the deals on the Agility 3 recently, even with the reliability issues. It seems inconclusive if they have been solved by firmware updates, so I have been passing.

I know there was a site where you could find the best price for a component (not Pricewatch) but I can't seem to find that site now.
Ahh ok, I didn't realize they just started the other day. I knew it was recently but I thought it started earlier in the week. Hopefully more people start voting!
Greenlight launched the last week of August, but not all games were up the first day. Grey Matter and Shantae only went up on Friday.

So I noticed that my gamercard hasn't updated recently. When I tried to create a new one, it keeps saying my Steam profile isn't public. I wonder if all the changes has screwed up reporting.

pcpartpicker.com?
Thanks for the reply.

I understand with games that waiting is preferable if the consumer can wait. I was thinking more about a game I really want to have for release - like Dishonored ($60 retail) or Bioshock Infinite ($50 retail).

I have Dishonored pre-ordered at NewEgg for $45 and Bioshock Infinite pre-ordered for $38. Sounds like that's as good as their gonna get prior to release (and immediately after release), eh?

Thanks again.
i think newegg is discounting a bunch of pre-order game (49.99 and up) by 12 dollars. check them out. i'm pretty sure i saw bioshock infinite and dishonored on there.
I think Project Zomboid is at around 28%. I've decided Greenlight just annoys me. I see all kinds of stupid games with stickman, or skinnyman, or stupid tall gangly man, or whatever the heck that stupid flavor of the week character is with a bunch of upvotes, and then a classic like Silent Storm with no love. A game like Silent Storm shouldn't even have to on Greenlight, it should just be a no brainer.
Silent Storm Gold is on gog for 9.99. I'm waiting for a 50% off sale myself to pick it up there. :)

I figure it'll be put on sale eventually so if you don't want to wait, that's another option. I mention it because it's the only site I've seen it for sale at all unless you wanted to pay insane prices for the CD version on eBay or Amazon.
This site is amazing, thanks for the link.
Totally, digging that site. It may make it too easy to order a computer though!
Daily Deal

Terraria 66% off $9.99 $3.39

best price ever: 2.49 USD (at Steam on May 17, 2011)
Nice touch adding the lowest offered price. As for Terraria itself, I still have fun playing the game with pals. The game is fine enough solo, but it's much more enriching to have at least one other person digging along with you.

$3.39 isn't the absolute greatest price, but I'm confident that anyone can get $5 of entertainment out of this game.
MK: Arcade Kollection -> req. Steam activation + G4WL = $5 on Amazon DVG.
(Includes MK1 + 2; and UMK3)

So, for those who might have it - how is the PC port of MK:AK which also uses that god-awful G4WL?

Big fan of the old-school MK series (MK1 + 2; and UMK3).
Awful. I regret using half of a $10 Amazon gift card on it. The GFWL isn't that intrusive except for the first time you play (I remember flipping my shit the first time I encountered it in Bioshock 1 or 2). I remember when this Kollection first came out I heard many of these complaints and stayed away. Stupid impulse purchases.

Basically a fixed resolution (I found a workaround I haven't tried yet), unmappable keys, sound that cuts out (and I think the sound effects are from the old Win/DOS ports, and not the original arcade versions). It's pretty bare-bones, but that's understandable to a degree.

I dropped a small-country's-GDP's-worth of quarters into MK 1 and 2 as a teen; this has teased my nostalgia and left it unsatisfied.

Mercenary Kings looks like a great by the guys that made Wizorb and art by Paul Robertson who did Scott Pilgrim game. They have a kickstarter that ends in three days and have made their goal. I put down $15 and the game will be on steam and they give you Wizorb too for that price.
I regretted not picking Terraria up during the Summer Sale. Shame it's got a weaker deal this time around. :whistle2:(
It is true that Terraria's current sale price is 90 cents more than it was during the Summer Sale, but, still, I maintain that most people can derive the entertainment necessary to appreciate the game at any sub-$5 price.

I guess it depends on how CAGly one cares to be.

Terraria is worth it at this sale price. Anyone who's friends with me on Steam has seen me playing it a lot lately. We bought a copy for my wife's account and started a world together.

It's the kind of game where you can prepare a snack and drink for your play session and find, six hours of mining/building/collecting/battling later, that you've forgotten to partake.

The game doesn't have a definite end, but if you use a wiki or walkthrough to see what creatures and items and areas exist in the game and the order in which you should tackle them, you can eat least know when you've bested the game's most difficult challenges. Or you can goof around forever and build castles out of strange materials and decorate them with statues and tapestries and wired electrical lighting. Because you can.

EDIT: It's worth noting that the 4-pack is available for $10.19.

I'm weak; don't push me over the edge. >_>

It was $1.88 a copy for the 4-pack last time, so I think I'll hold out for that... No argument that it's still worth it at $2.50ish, or even $5, but I am a CAG, after all.

Terrarria felt like a grind fest just to defeat a monster. I seen people put over 70 hours grinding in this game, and I can't figure out why. There is no end, there is no achievements, I just could not figure out why. At least with Minecraft you can make some cool buildings and stuff.

If it's your thing, more power to you, but it felt to me too much like a time sync with no return.

Since Terraria lacks finality, it does feel a bit like a Maxis game. Nevertheless, Terraria does have bosses and special items to let the player know that progress is being made. A little completion dialog would have been nice, but I'm sure Redigit wanted to leave the game more open-ended so players wouldn't feel forced off their own map.

However, I do agree that a lot of time has to be put in to make significant progress; My pal and I started a new game recently, and we've clocked in an obscene 40 hours just to beat the first four bosses. Indeed, it takes a lot of digging, crafting, building, and collecting to make everything come together.

Still, Terraria is great fun with multiple people, and it's still noticeably addicting with one player. I've enjoyed my time with Terraria, but I completely understand why it's not for everyone.

Are you asking if they're legit as in licensed resellers, or legit as in "They won't steal my money, my credit card, and my kidneys?"

When it comes to any questionable key reseller, the integrity of my Steam account trumps whatever percentage I might save. If Gabe ever cuts me off, look for me on the blotter, caught stealing toasters.
Anyone know the legitimacy of this site?
http://cdkeyshere.com/
Let it be known, I did not go to the website itself, but the title "cdkeyshere" just simply doesn't sound right to me. Personally, I think dfg said it best. It's better to stick with a few well-known sellers, like GOG.com, GamersGate, Steam, and GreenManGaming.com, then venturing off into unknown territory. Steam can and will pull games from a user's library if Terms of Service conditions are violated.

Like dfg said, "the integrity of my Steam account trumps whatever percentage I might save."

So wait, there's actually a story mode type of thing in Terraria?

You know it's weird. I enjoy Maxis games for the most part. I been a Sim City fan for ages. I guess for me is that I been a WoW player for so long, that any game that says you need to spend 70-100 hours grinding to get to the end, just turns me off now. WoW burned me on grinding. Nothing against Terrarria, but I guess I got burnt out on grinding with WoW.
So wait, there's actually a story mode type of thing in Terraria?
Not really, it's more so there are bosses in Terrarria and once you get strong enough, you can kill them. That's pretty much the end of the game when you killed all the bosses and you got the max gear.

Anywho finished the story of Sleeping Dogs today. Didn't 100% achievement it, and I have the rest of this week to decide if I will. I fucking loved that game from start to finish and well quite honestly the only other two games I see giving it a run for the money of my GOTY is Borderlands 2 and Dishonored. Although Borderlands 2 is probably going to win, unless Dishonored pulls a Deus Ex out of it's ass.

Also fuck Runic Games. They had all summer to put out Torchlight 2 and then they release it same week as Borderlands 2. I mean I would of loved to play my copy of T2, but Borderlands will eat up my life, lol.

I don't see the objectives in Terraria to be "grinding" any more than following the main quest line of any open world game. You take care of everything that needs to be done through exploration of a randomly generated world. You either enjoy that or you don't. Sure, there are points such as where finding four more jungle spores would give you enough to craft a better boomerang, but doing so isn't necessary at all.

The only objectives that are ever must-do in order to proceed are the bosses, all of which drop necessary items. By contrast, the game never has a point at which you can't go any further until you slay 200 floating eyes, and I appreciate that.

There are rare spawns that drop unique items that one could grind for, but these are limited to costume pieces that grant no stat benefits.

Good point

Monday morning observations:

1) I delved into Analogue: A Hate Story last night. I'd had enough of GW2, didn't feel like any more SR3, and wanted something different.

I started reading the firsy log entries and soon I wanted to shoot Rolling Skull et al for recommending it. Reading? Late on a Sunday? Harumph.

Then I read some more and found it to be really, really interesting.

Then it was 1.15am and I had work in the morning, and I wanted to shoot the same people but this time for entirely different reasons.

It's hard to explain without playing it, but for anybody who has it in their backlog I'd certainly recommend trying it when you're bored of your other games. My playthrough took around 2 hours (inc. breaks) and it's WAY different from anything else I've played. Good stuff. Give it time to get going and you'll be rewarded.

2) Faster Than Light launches this Friday at $9.99/£6.99. Really, really looking forward to this.

In fact, I'm going to call my first ensign "Rolling Skull" and will eject him into space. That'll teach him to recommend games that keep me up past my bedtime :D

It's going to be a long week waiting for this.

And Jimmy Graham.

Jimmy's getting a much harsher treatment. Probably involving fire. Lots of fire. In zero gravity.

If I can't have him nobody can.

New humble bundle may hit today and look for terraria to possibly be in it. They were hinting at an announcement on the terraria twitter today. Coincidence....maybe......
Steam is opening the beta for Big Picture Mode today.
Have they announced what time it starts and how to get in? I am really intrigued by it and would love to try it out.

Even as a feature I will most assuredly NOT use any time soon, Big Picture Mode seems like a startlingly smart move for Valve, one that don't got much of a negative impact on the "traditional" PC gamer. Good stuff.

It's supposed to start this afternoon and will be available to everyone. Guess there will be a client update that adds the button. Check out the launch trailer.

Also looking forward to their gamepad powered web browser that "doesn't suck".

Do you know if Steam can/will automatically tell if you're connected to a TV? Or is there just a button we hit called "Big Picture Mode"?

The timing of this is perfect for me, as I Just ordered a 20ft HDMI cable, and plug and play kit for my 360 controller in preparation to start playing my PC games on my 50-inch TV. They should be here this week.

That said, I have never played a PC game before through my TV, so I am a tad uninformed, lol.

I'd love to play PC games on my TV, but unfortunately every time I hook up my laptop it no longer displays full screen. I just want to duplicate the screens or have it appear only on my TV, but it cuts off the display. =/

I don't think the plug and play kit will work. I think you need the wired version or a wireless adapter

Very tempted to pick up today's deal, which is the Hitman Collection for $6.24. That's dirt cheap. I just don't know if I need a bigger backlog.
