Welcome to the Steam Deal Thread V5! You can find link to past threads at the bottom of this post. Read post #2 of this thread for Steam FAQs and more.

This is a Wiki post. Please read this
We appreciate you helping keep this thread up to date. The sales change virtually every day so no one person has the time to update them all. If you notice a game is no longer on sale, feel free to delete its line from the sale list. Of course, if you see a game is on sale, add it to the list. Make sure your changes match the thread's format! For example, every game that's on sale is part of an unordered list. When adding a game to the list, copy an existing line and update the link, title, and prices. That way, the format stays correct. Do not list percentages off! We list the original price and the sale price here. If you have any suggestions for major changes to the post/thread, PM me (EastX) about them.
for instructions on updating the thread.

Preorder Deals - Updated 10/28
Group Buys - Updated 8/14

Several multiplayer Steam games are available in 2-packs or 4-packs. These packs offer a discount over buying multiple copies of a game separately. We also maintain group buy trade threads for several games, so please use those threads if you're interested in setting up a group buy.

Free Stuff - Updated 4/3

There are several free games and mods on Steam. These are a few choice ones; you can find a full list here. Note that free games are not permanently attached to your Steam account like actual purchases would be. You'll need to manually download a game again from the website if you uninstall it.

Steam around CAG

If you are interested in joining the Steam CAG Community or participating in a trade or group buy with fellow Cheap Ass Gamers, please do so in the dedicated threads and not in the deal discussion thread. In the dedicated threads you will find CAGers with the same specialized interest who will be much quicker (and happier) to respond than in the Deals thread.

Steam Retail Key List

What is a CD key and where can I find it?

https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=7480-WUSF-3601

The CD Key is a serial number with a combination of 13, 18, or 25 letters and numbers - it can be found on a sticker inside your game's case or printed on the game's quick reference card.
The CD Key acts as your proof of purchase for the game - Steam Support may ask for it if you need to establish your ownership of an account. It is recommended that you keep your CD Key in a safe place to ensure the security of your account.

Guess I should be glad I can't seem to be able to sleep in very late anymore. Thanks!!

I think the first Mafia game has been removed from the store. It's not showing up in any search. I have a copy of it in my inventory and there isn't even a link to go to the store page like you usually see with games in your inventory.

When I search for it, it shows up in the drop-down menu, but there's no image next to it and upon clicking on it, it just reloads the home page. Weird, good thing I already own it though.

I wonder if sites selling steam keys will get any new ones? I bought mine from amazon and redeemed on Steam. Or if this is the last batch of steam Mafia...lol
Is there an easier way of entering these codes in other than switching between the game and a browser and copying and pasting?
You copy the whole code once, turn the game on and paste the whole code at once. How much easier can it get?

I just noticed GameStop is selling Overlord Complete for $6.79 (Steam keys). Overlord with it's Raising Hell expansion is one of the funnest games I've played in the last 5 years. It's very well written and animated control-minions-and-wreak-havoc game. I've heard compared to Pikman (never played Pikman myself). Plays very well with a controller.

So I doubt anyone remembers, but back when the Steam community beta came out I said it was weird because 2 items that I had redeemed from my inventory prior to the beta were put back into my inventory and there were still in my library as well. Fast forward to now, I still have the 2 items in my inventory and library. It is like Steam gave me 2 pieces of DLC for free lol

Um, doing it on a browser so you can access it from your phone if your computer is not easily accessible maybe?

I was discussing Dishonored with a fellow CAG today, and we realized that if you go through www.gamersgate.co.uk and you have the IGN discount (don't we all?), Dishonored (Steamworks) is available to pre-order for $41, and they'll put ~$2 of credit back into your Gamersgate account, too. :)

You can still enjoy them with kb/m though. They would most likely be better with controller, but I beat both games with kb/m I loved them. Although I liked the second one better, but that is because I like a game with story throughout rather than the last ten minutes.

Hm.. I loved the first and never got to play the second. Is this a good deal? I do not recall the prices during the Steam sales.

Any input?

Weird. Last time I tried that it didn't work so I was copying and pasting each section in. Tried again and the whole thing worked. Thanks!

Overlord complete pack was 4.99 on Steam last Halloween.

Thanks for the heads up on the pricing guys. Looks like I will just wait for the Steam sale of it again!

For some reason I thought only the first one was that price and not the complete pack, glad to hear I was wrong! haha

Most of the times I copy their codes from twitter it adds a space to the end and the game won't recognize it. I paste to notepad and then copy again. Maybe you have a similar issue.

Yeah, if you copy from a website you copy a space at the end sometimes without realizing. Be sure to copy just the numbers and it should paste fine.

I love Pikmin but I feel that Overlord is largely boring and the setting and graphics do nothing for me.

There's a demo on Steam if anyone is undecided.

I had fun with Overlord but the game started to wear out its welcome with the expansion. Never ended up finishing the sequel. I've seen the base game as low as $1.50 or so during various sales.

On Steam itself... I suppose it's possible. Has it ever been 50% off on Steam? If not that seems like the next plateau they'll hit. That said, since it is Steamworks it doesn't really matter where you buy it. Chances are other DD outlets and places like Newegg with physical copies will all beat whatever price Steam itself offers. Personally I'm not going any higher than $20.

Make of this what you will:

I hadn't been on my laptop in a while and so I needed to update Malwarebytes and Steam, then Malwarebytes popped up, fiirst real time detection I have ever had:

fuck, I had this same problem. scanned it on totalvirus and it came back clean, so maybe false positive.

I think I got all of the Overlord games during the winter sale last year or maybe even the 2011 Summer sale for 5 bucks. Regardless of price though, those 2 games are alot of fun, especially when you can get them on the cheap.

The Kung Fu Strike DLC is exactly what it sounds like. Infinite challenge modes. And if you played all of KFS you can pretty much predict it's going to be more ridiculous over the top enemy spamfests of the same esoteric style as the rest of the game's more ridiculous levels. As such, you only will want it if you think you'll want more excuses to punch Chinese people and get slaughtered by a sheer numbers game. They ALL seem to be infinite survivals of various sorts though so there's no winning. I probably would need co-op to stand a chance anyway.

Hmm, just did a scan with Malwarebytes and it grabbed that file and memory module of same name.

A quick search shows no reports of it being malicious, but that file name popped up in a few support forums where programs were crashing or not launching.

Hmmmm, what to do, what to do...

Great to hear! I was wondering if it played okay with KB/M for gifting intentions. I haven't got around to the second one yet (other than just poking in on the first sequence).

I picked the complete pack up on steam for $3 on the Xmas 2010 sale -- a real steal. I haven't seen it on a good sale since, until now. I'm glad to hear it was $5 on a Halloween sale. $7.50 or less for the complete pack I feel is a good deal (normally $20).

GetGamesGo currently has Overlord II for $2.49 I think that's a steam key.

Sophos generates a lot of false positives, and flags stuff like punkbuster.

My desktop had the definitions from three days ago, since I have MalwareBytes FREE on it. My laptop has Malwarebytes PRO and automatically the newest DEFs, so I scanned with the old DEFs on my desktop and it had no issue. I updated the DEFs on the desktop and scanned that file again, said it was bad now. So whatever happened happened in the last few days

Just beat Spec Ops The line in 6 hours. Story wise, the game was great, I really liked it. Gameplay wise, it was very average to meh at times to me. If they could of polished things a bit more and refined stuff it could have been more enjoyable. Graphically it looked very good except the way to much bloom, but the style of everything and all the exotic looking stuff was ace.

Thanks! Good to know about the SP! :D

Have you checked out the MP yet?
If so..is it as average as the reviews made it out to be?

Nope, had no interest in playing the MP honestly. Soon as credits stopped rolling I uninstalled it since I need to make room for Dishonored lol

Bought BeMine 5 at the dollar level. Already have the Oddbox, and Tropico 3 plus graphic novels wasn't enough to make me want to put in the other four bucks. NEO Scavenger looks really interesting; hoping it gets Greenlit.

However, my Steaming for the night is going to consist of Skyrim, which I managed to get Best Buy to price match at $9.99 today. After my TRU didn't have it, I was ready to go back to waiting for the GotY, but then a friend gifted me the Hearthfire DLC. I figured it was worth a shot. Went a lot more smoothly than the last time I had them price match for me, and it wasn't even a clearance item that time...

Color me surprised, anyway.

Haha... while you guys are stuck with your six hour Spec Ops: the Line, I'm making it last MUCH longer by sucking so bad that the game has asked me if I'd like to drop difficulty levels. I'm figuring I can get 12 hours, easy!

How long is Alan Wake and The Darkness 2? Anyone know by chance? Figured I can tear through another game between Xcom and Dishonored
How long is Alan Wake and The Darkness 2? Anyone know by chance? Figured I can tear through another game between Xcom and Dishonored
I think Alan Wake including DLC is probably about 13-15 hours. Maybe more. I suggest not rushing through it.

I tore through The Darkness 2 as a free redbox Rental. The main campaign was probably 6 or 7 hours. I played a bit of the co-op campaign stuff alone, but not enough to know how much of it there is. It's very much separate and you could skip it until a later time.

The Darkness is 6/7 hour single player. It also has a co-op mode(well, you can also play alone) that can add another 7/8 hours if you have friends interested in playing with you(the onlines is not very active so its hard to find someone to play it with you with matchmaking)

They're both 10ish hour games, with Alan a bit on the longer side of that and Darkness 2 on the shorter. For instance, my Darkness 2 playtime is 8 hours, which includes beating the game and playing all of the co-op only missions/

Also, once you finish the story in Darkness II, you have the option of starting over but with all your accumulated Darkness powers. I guess if you want to pick up any secrets/artifacts you missed the first time around that might be appealing.

Steam shows my play time as 12 hours. I explored most of the alternate choices. Yes, the game thought I sucked on a few segments too, but I stubbornly pushed through without dropping the difficulty.

I thought Spec Ops was some of the best shooter action I've had in a while. The controls were messed up and spread about weirdly though and the higher difficulties just became stupid rather than fun but all in all I enjoyed it a lot as a shooter.

The plot was great too.

Thanks for the laugh, that's good stuff.

Also, for the Malwarebytes thing, it's a false positive: http://forums.malwarebytes.org/index.php?showtopic=117000
