Welcome to the Steam Deal Thread V5! You can find link to past threads at the bottom of this post. Read post #2 of this thread for Steam FAQs and more.

This is a Wiki post. Please read this
We appreciate you helping keep this thread up to date. The sales change virtually every day so no one person has the time to update them all. If you notice a game is no longer on sale, feel free to delete its line from the sale list. Of course, if you see a game is on sale, add it to the list. Make sure your changes match the thread's format! For example, every game that's on sale is part of an unordered list. When adding a game to the list, copy an existing line and update the link, title, and prices. That way, the format stays correct. Do not list percentages off! We list the original price and the sale price here. If you have any suggestions for major changes to the post/thread, PM me (EastX) about them.
for instructions on updating the thread.

Preorder Deals - Updated 10/28
Group Buys - Updated 8/14

Several multiplayer Steam games are available in 2-packs or 4-packs. These packs offer a discount over buying multiple copies of a game separately. We also maintain group buy trade threads for several games, so please use those threads if you're interested in setting up a group buy.

Free Stuff - Updated 4/3

There are several free games and mods on Steam. These are a few choice ones; you can find a full list here. Note that free games are not permanently attached to your Steam account like actual purchases would be. You'll need to manually download a game again from the website if you uninstall it.

Steam around CAG

If you are interested in joining the Steam CAG Community or participating in a trade or group buy with fellow Cheap Ass Gamers, please do so in the dedicated threads and not in the deal discussion thread. In the dedicated threads you will find CAGers with the same specialized interest who will be much quicker (and happier) to respond than in the Deals thread.

Steam Retail Key List

What is a CD key and where can I find it?

https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=7480-WUSF-3601

The CD Key is a serial number with a combination of 13, 18, or 25 letters and numbers - it can be found on a sticker inside your game's case or printed on the game's quick reference card.
The CD Key acts as your proof of purchase for the game - Steam Support may ask for it if you need to establish your ownership of an account. It is recommended that you keep your CD Key in a safe place to ensure the security of your account.
So why do I own DOTA 2? Someone wanted a couple of items for it for trade a while back, and I saw my account showed as owning it. I know it will be free-to-play, but people can buy early access. I didn't buy it. I don't recall being gifted it. I do, however, have it.

My transaction history shows nothing, either.
It's the Spectator Client that you have. It was open to all during TI2.

To my understanding everyone can still play it but the people that buy/early access are accessing a test with everything available.

This is very tempting, GTA Sale at Gamersgate:
So after 677 hours of play, I finally decide to uninstall Football Manager 2012 (heck, 2013 is out in a couple of weeks)

So what do I play next?

Well, I went to TRU and BB and got a whole bunch of the $10 games... Diablo 3, Starcraft 2, MW3, Skyrim...

So what do I decide to play?

PHANTASMAGORIA!

WHAT IS WRONG WITH ME??!?!!
I can never play Phantasmagoria too many times.

This is largely because every time I've played through it I've invited several friends over and gotten so staggeringly wasted I have no memory of the plot.

I find myself irritated, once again, by the pricing structure of a piece of DLC vs an entire pack.

Case in point: Sanctum

For $4.74 you can buy the game and all DLC in one bundle. This is aimed, presumably, at the new customer that wants to buy all-in.

For $3.99 you can buy Map Pack 2 (not coincidentally the only one I am lacking). This is aimed at the customer who already owns the game; the loyal customer who bought in early.

Why don't existing owners get an even better discount than newcomers? Developers - are you trying to train me not to buy your games until the inevitable bundle/deal comes along?
It's the Spectator Client that you have. It was open to all during TI2.
Ah.

Thanks.

The lesson here is to actually read the entire game page instead of quickly skimming the top.
Might be an issue with your speaker setup.

VOs in XCOM don't work over my speakers but work fine with headphones.

My speakers are old and have channels blown out, though, which probably explains it on my end.

Try using headphones, though, just to see if it works.[/]
I was using my headphones. It was just any VO, I was afraid it had something to do with being RU. I ran the Steam check to verify the integrity of local files, it found one bad one, updated it, ran again, and all is well.

That stuff pisses me off to no end as well.
I'm in the exact same spot as you with the above. I really like Sanctum and would like to get the second Map Pack but they want to bend me over when they have already gotten more than what are currently asking for it for everything instead of giving me a break for actually supporting them.

Same thing happens time and time again for games, it really does make you angry. Or they will price the DLC at some stupid price but then bundle it with the game and it is dirt cheap (Saints Row The Third I'm looking at you specifically!)

To be fair, there are franchises that give pretty excellent loyalty discounts when buying newer installments of series you own.

So it isn't all across the board terrible.

True, but it is normally for a new installment in the series and not just some DLC. I know Blood Bowl does it (tempted to get Chaos Edition for $10). It is just that giving a loyalty discount is the exception instead of the norm :(

Never thought much of Sanctum. Okay concept but just didn't hold my interest. And, as noted, their DLC pricing structure was always horribly inflated.
Never thought much of Sanctum. Okay concept but just didn't hold my interest. And, as noted, their DLC pricing structure was always horribly inflated.
Never held my interest single-player either, but I played for a few hours one night with a friend in co-op, voice chatting and such, and had a really good time. So, it's good for that, I guess.

I can see that. To me it also fell victim to the 'too many games too little time' issue that we all run across in this golden age of digital download gaming. I think it was one of the first shooter/tower defense hybrids out there but stuff like Dungeon Defenders and Orcs Must Die (albeit third person not first person) supplanted it.
So thoughts on XCOM? Part of me wants to wait for a sale and part of me wants to buy it to support the genre of this.
I went ahead and bought it at the Green Man Gaming sale price a week or two ago because I figured I don't mind supporting A) turn-based strategy and B) Firaxis games.

Plus, you get to play it now. ;)

Most games I wait until a sale though, as I'm a Cheap Ass.
So, is there anything in this anthology that I won't get if I already own these games via GOG/Steam?
Bonuses: Art, Soundtracks, etc (usual GoG stuff). The Divinity II: Director's Cut will be released on the 18th. It definately differs from Divinity II:Dragon Knight Saga in that:
- Developers's Mode that lets you experience the game from a whole new perspective.
- Divinity Anthology Developer's Journal detailing the 15 years of Larian Games' history.
- Unique design documents such as Complete Quest Design Delivery, Tester's Walkthroughs, and Scripts etc
- Tons of never before seen concept arts.

Largely some people are excited about the console.

Personally I have DII:DKS ($6 Amazon DRM free). I want to pickup Divinity Divine. I'm less hot on Beyond Divinity. I'm thinking: just pickup Divinity Divine on GoG for $1. Pickup Beyond Divinity on GMG for $1. And just be happy with my DII:DKS.

Great game, if you liked the original or like turn based strategy games you will dig it. You can give the demo on Steam a try, it is a very very simple demo but it gives you a basic taste of how the game is.

No, I wouldn't be able to enjoy it now. It would go right in the backlog till I bet dishonored . I do enjoy turned based strategy games and this looks fun. Only thing is while I am a cheap ass, I might have to buy it from Gamestop for this one. I got to offload New Super Mario Bros 2 sometime.

I realized today I should buy it now to support the genre. I mean yeah I am a cheap ass but non open world WRPG games and JRPG's I tend to buy at full price on principal.

Didn't want to bump the indiegala thread and make people think there was a new one so I will ask here.

If you only have happy hour gifts can you create an account and link all your gifts?

They haven't integrated that into it yet. Hopefully they will down the line, but I doubt it will be retroactive.

Thanks for the info and quick reply. (By the way I took your wheelie record in Sleeping Dogs:))

Just a reminder to anyone thinking of buying anything now: we're rounding the corner on October and November/December is usually a period of non-stop crazy deals for Steam and Amazon. Hold out just a little longer!

My body is ready, but my wallet is not.

If winter is anything like summer, I will probably have even less to buy this time around. I mean with stuff like the upcoming squeenix bundle on amazon, my impulse buy price is down to less than $2 and Steam likely won't do that much.

So Cities XL is on sale for 75% off. On the store page it says you can get Cities XL 2011 for 50% off if you have Cities XL. Is this 50% off the current sale price...or off retail? If it's from the sale price that's pretty good to get both under $10

No, the 50% doesn't stack with the current discounts.

Yeah I'm getting more and more hesitant to pull the trigger on solo deals.

Somebody mentioned in the GoG thread post 489

BlueMooner: Also, how worth it is it to pay extra just to get a dev console for game 3?

Larian is working with Steam and Focus on a patch for DKS to add the Developer Mode (which is the only difference between DKS and D2:DC, aside from the bonus content with the GOG version or the anthology).

There is probably something more official at: http://www.larian.com

But I own the DRM-free Amazon version...

^Thanks, asheskitty!

I did forget that the GOG versions include the usual awesome goodies, so maybe I'll bite. It's less than $13 for soundtracks, etc., so I think I'd get my money's worth.

Stumbled on an interesting entry in the Steam registry named 'Robot Entertainment Public Comp' that contains Orcs Must Die and the DLC. Wonder if they're going to put it in an upcoming indie bundle. Would make sense sort of how like Runic finally put Torchlight 1 in Humble.

Hmmm, Indie Royale had Dungeon Defenders in one bundle. I would buy it just to gift a copy to a friend if it shows up in any bundle.

I own DRM-FREE Amazon DVG version of Div 2: DKS.

If they going to update Steam version w/ Dev Mode, they should update the Non-Steam versions w/ Dev Mode as well.
Just a reminder to anyone thinking of buying anything now: we're rounding the corner on October and November/December is usually a period of non-stop crazy deals for Steam and Amazon. Hold out just a little longer!
Waiting for a crazy Dishonored deal... ;)
So what do I decide to play?

PHANTASMAGORIA!

WHAT IS WRONG WITH ME??!?!!
Love that game. I have a physical copy, the physical copy I borrowed from a friend in the 90's, and the GoG release. It's been a long time since I've played it, but I still have most of the game memorized. Should play its sequel again, though. Puzzle of Flesh had some interesting easter eggs.
I find myself irritated, once again, by the pricing structure of a piece of DLC vs an entire pack.

Case in point: Sanctum
Yeah, my situation as well. I got it in the bundle it was in a long while ago, then rebought it in the then complete package to get the DLC I lacked, then bought another of the complete package for my wife's account so we can try MP. I'm definitely interested in the new map pack, but I can wait for better than a 20% discount. It will be cheaper.

The bundled price doesn't bother me as much. With a game that offers a good MP experience, it makes it easier to gift or talk friends into purchasing.

GOG Pay What You Want: Divinity Anthology
Sale page
Pay-what-you-want: Divine Divinity
BTA (currently $6.17): Beyond Divinity (currently $1 on GMG requires Capsule)
Pay-top-10% (currently $12.28): Divinity II: Developer's Cut
I've been watching the average go down over the past few days. It was originally over $18. Must be a lot of people buying at the minimum, which suits me fine. I'll likely do the same unless the average drops another couple of dollars before the promotion ends. Divine Divinity has been on my wishlist for a while now, though once it came to Steam this year, I figured I'd be getting it there.

Unfortunately, the average increased by a quarter since I last checked. It must have dipped to a lot of people's thresholds, or maybe a lot more people just noticed it with the weekend upon us.

Phantasmagoria wasn't even worth it for the T&A.

Resident Evil 1 on PC is actually the only I've played in the series, and it scarred me for life; gave up on the series right then and there.

Man, another Daily that elicits not a single comment—sarcastic, even—in 6+ hours.

I got it from Groupees for .75 and I assume others passed even at that price.

The GoG thread is much higher drama than most GoG threads I've seen. Apparently some people bought at as high as $21-23. The price has been been farly stable today. BTA I saw in the morning was $6.17, I saw a high of $6.28 or so, now $6.13. The top tier has slowly and steadily crept up from $12.28 to $12.51.

I think you might be very correct about the weekend-GoG effect, since most of their sales are weekend-long sales, there may be a good flux. At what price new buyers will buy in is an open question (I suspect depends on if they have/want Divinity II), but I would guess there would be a number of lowballers. Beyond Divinity has such mixed reviews (3.5 GoG-stars -- I consider sub-4-GoG-stars to be a warning given the inflated ratings.) and a typical 60% off GoG sale would bring it to $2.40.

Registry entries for Comps are generally not good indicators of bundles. That Robot Entertainment one, for instance, includes Orcs Must Die 1 and 2, all DLC, and Hero Academy and all DLC. Comp registry entry updates for Devs/publishers are usually because something was edited, like a price change or to include new or updated stuff. For instance, shortly before that Robot one were Microsoft, Terry Cavanaugh, and Gaslamp Games, and Frozenbyte.

Well, to throw out some more wacky speculation a bunch of Nordic (formerly Jowood) titles just had their registry entries edited: Gothic series, Spellforce series, Aquanox series, etc. Total of 14 or so games so it wouldn't fit a possible Nordic Indie Gala. More likely an upcoming Nordic week promo.

Don't worry.
ALL versions of DKS will get a FREE upgrade to Developer's Cut eventually:

A ton of games have been getting the data conversion update lately. Some updates might be tied into that.
You should play XCOM now instead of later. I enjoyed Borderlands 2 a lot, but I am loving XCOM. I wanted to call in sick to work so I could play it.
My son has had pneumonia so I called off all week to take care of him. Bonus: 28 hours played for xcom. Though about 8-10 of those are probably idle, taking care of baby time, I've definitely been getting my fill.
