Welcome to the Steam Deal Thread V5! You can find link to past threads at the bottom of this post. Read post #2 of this thread for Steam FAQs and more.

This is a Wiki post. Please read this
We appreciate you helping keep this thread up to date. The sales change virtually every day so no one person has the time to update them all. If you notice a game is no longer on sale, feel free to delete its line from the sale list. Of course, if you see a game is on sale, add it to the list. Make sure your changes match the thread's format! For example, every game that's on sale is part of an unordered list. When adding a game to the list, copy an existing line and update the link, title, and prices. That way, the format stays correct. Do not list percentages off! We list the original price and the sale price here. If you have any suggestions for major changes to the post/thread, PM me (EastX) about them.
for instructions on updating the thread.

Preorder Deals - Updated 10/28
Group Buys - Updated 8/14

Several multiplayer Steam games are available in 2-packs or 4-packs. These packs offer a discount over buying multiple copies of a game separately. We also maintain group buy trade threads for several games, so please use those threads if you're interested in setting up a group buy.

Free Stuff - Updated 4/3

There are several free games and mods on Steam. These are a few choice ones; you can find a full list here. Note that free games are not permanently attached to your Steam account like actual purchases would be. You'll need to manually download a game again from the website if you uninstall it.

Steam around CAG

If you are interested in joining the Steam CAG Community or participating in a trade or group buy with fellow Cheap Ass Gamers, please do so in the dedicated threads and not in the deal discussion thread. In the dedicated threads you will find CAGers with the same specialized interest who will be much quicker (and happier) to respond than in the Deals thread.

Steam Retail Key List

What is a CD key and where can I find it?

https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=7480-WUSF-3601

The CD Key is a serial number with a combination of 13, 18, or 25 letters and numbers - it can be found on a sticker inside your game's case or printed on the game's quick reference card.
The CD Key acts as your proof of purchase for the game - Steam Support may ask for it if you need to establish your ownership of an account. It is recommended that you keep your CD Key in a safe place to ensure the security of your account.

I don't understand how anyone can have such disdain for controllers on pc games. I think it's a "oh noes, controllers are for console peasants, I'm to 1337 for that," perception thing. Some games just play better with a controller.
'Better' is relative. Depends what you grew up playing/using. And, yes, I am a M+K elitist for life! That said, there are games I recognize that are pretty much designed for consoles and obviously play better with their 'native' input device. Of course, I rarely have any interest in those games in the first place.

You won't catch me playing MK series, SF series w/ a KB/mouse. Skip that madness!
Controller for brawler.

Also - I prefer controller for most sports games; racing games; & games w/ LOTS of platforming (Tomb Raider series, Psychonauts, AC series).

For shooters (FPS's, TPS's) and many kind of RPG's - mouse/keyboard for me.

I'm the same way.
You should probably use spoiler tags for any plot related info from the game.

"better" is your opinion
I grew up playing mk on kb and thats what I still like however I havent played a MK game in ages

The only recent game I played on controller was KOA because the camera was absolutely horrible for kb/m

Without playing semantics, I think you're bothing taking what he said out of context. Especially because you both pretty much agreed with him (in the bolded below):

Preedatore simply said some games play better with a controller. Which you both agreed with... After disagreeing.

Just my 2-cents. :p

I think I first played Wolfenstein 3D about when it was released with a Gravis Gamepad.

I don't think I did so for long.

Renegade Ops told me just yesterday that it's better with a controller, so it must be true. In all seriousness, I can understand being more comfortable using one or the other, but I don't understand ignoring an option that may improve the game experience just because..

And in the interest in bad analogies, since we can't have a forum without them: I like to use caviar as a topping. These tortilla chips don't taste very good with caviar on them. Even though I have nacho cheese as an option and the chips were designed to better utilize that option, I feel more comfortable with caviar as a topping and will continue to use that.

It seems like your opinion has been skewed by elitist NeoGAF users. I play both PC and console games, and I've found that there are certainly some games that work better with a controller and some that work better with a mouse and keyboard; the difference between the two, for me at least, is usually how many hotkeys and button combinations are required in the game. For example, Hydrophobia Prophecy and Assassin's Creed are much better using a controller because they're meant for fast-paced, fluid gameplay and feature little inventory management and intuitive shoulder controls. And in contrast, Torchlight, Diablo, and StarCraft were all more intuitive with a mouse and keyboard because they had you cycling weapons, swapping and upgrading armor, opening skill trees, mapping 8-10 customizable skills, and a myriad of other convoluted configurations that would be burdensome to remember on a controller. There is merit to each, but I'd rather press "1" to cast Cure than LT+Down Arrow+B.

As for the choice of switching between the two: some people just aren't dedicated enough to buy a controller/USB extender and download Joy2Key just to use it when nearly every PC game is still passable with the initial mouse and keyboard setup. Developers aren't trying to make their games suck when they create the control scheme...

Right, these arguments are silly, because this stuff is completely up to personal preference.

I, for instance, use a 1-button Suncom "Slik Stik" joystick to play everything. None of this trendy "mouse" nonsense.

Thank the gods! I was getting afraid of outing myself as a trackball user.

I would wager that few of the KB/M die-hards are avid fanatics of genres that inherently don't map well to KB/M, such as driving games (analog steering, gas, & brake), fighting games, flight sims.

I don't know...that seems like it's been done to death as well. Let's debate something important. I'm drinking some Octoberfest while I play tonight. Anyone drinking anything else is doing it wrong.

Did anyone actually get their voucher? I just remembered this and it's three days later but no reward for my button mashing

I think the last FPS I played with KB/M was SW: Republic Commando lol. Adapted to the controller over time from console gaming. & now I'm strictly PC again, funny how that works.

I was going to go with the defend RollingSkull's freedom of speech standby.

A classic.
Anyways there was a twist in sleeping dogs???
No, the twist was in reference to Spec Ops. I won't go into specifics to avoid spoilers, but the way they make it work feels really contrived.

Tried that once, and on a netbook to boot. I still suffer nightsweats and PTSD from it to this day.

On the topic of kb/m, I've finally given TF2 a chance. I've owned it since shortly after the Orange Box came out (got it Christmas 2007,) and prior to this past week had only played it for 59 seconds.

I'm actually really enjoying it, and have put 20 hours into it the past 4 days (rare for me.) It's the first multiplayer shooter I've played on the PC since the first MW.

I'm sure I'll burn out soon, but was pleasantly surprised to enjoy it as much as I have.

Quake multiplayer on my 1996 Pentium 133MHz 11.1" 1024x600 laptop with the fragile-as-hell 3com PCMCIA ethernet dongle and a trackpad 1.5"x2" -- the old kind that *any* moisture caused to go haywire. TFT screens back in the day used to ghost like crazy. No mouse because trying to use a mouse on a soft sofa was too dicey -- you know back when mice had balls. One tip: never stop running!

I'm never going back to consoles. I found the idea of paying M$ $60 for the privilege of multiplay and accessing Netflix absurd. Plus, even when I had moved on to better hardware, I was prevented from adapting that puppy into a decent XBMC as god intended.

The only thing I miss is renting a new $60 game and beating it over a weekend for a couple of bucks.

I keep checking my e-mail with no luck. :( Filled out two of them for Hearthfire and one Civ V DLC pack. This might take an e-mail to CS to clarify whether or not the promotion ended and if we'll get our vouchers.

Completely off topic:
I just finished Spec Ops: The Line late last night. It was great, and if not for CAG recommendations I would have missed it - so thanks to those that talked it up!

If you're in the market for a Radeon 7xxx series, they're launching a new promo. Getting the 7770 Ghz or 7850 gets you FarCry 3; 7950 FarCry 3 and Hitman Aboslution; And 7970 or 7970 Ghz gets you FarCry 3/Hitman Absolution/Sleeping Dogs.

2 x 7770 Ghz/7850s get you FarCry 3 and Hitman as well.

I believe they're Steam keys, which is pretty cool for FarCry 3, which I assume is otherwise non-Steam redeemable. (Like Batman: AC when nVidia was giving away codes.)

I am cry. I knew I shoulda waited on my card.
