Welcome to the Steam Deal Thread V5! You can find link to past threads at the bottom of this post. Read post #2 of this thread for Steam FAQs and more.

This is a Wiki post. Please read this
We appreciate you helping keep this thread up to date. The sales change virtually every day so no one person has the time to update them all. If you notice a game is no longer on sale, feel free to delete its line from the sale list. Of course, if you see a game is on sale, add it to the list. Make sure your changes match the thread's format! For example, every game that's on sale is part of an unordered list. When adding a game to the list, copy an existing line and update the link, title, and prices. That way, the format stays correct. Do not list percentages off! We list the original price and the sale price here. If you have any suggestions for major changes to the post/thread, PM me (EastX) about them.
for instructions on updating the thread.

Preorder Deals - Updated 10/28
Group Buys - Updated 8/14

Several multiplayer Steam games are available in 2-packs or 4-packs. These packs offer a discount over buying multiple copies of a game separately. We also maintain group buy trade threads for several games, so please use those threads if you're interested in setting up a group buy.

Free Stuff - Updated 4/3

There are several free games and mods on Steam. These are a few choice ones; you can find a full list here. Note that free games are not permanently attached to your Steam account like actual purchases would be. You'll need to manually download a game again from the website if you uninstall it.

Steam around CAG

If you are interested in joining the Steam CAG Community or participating in a trade or group buy with fellow Cheap Ass Gamers, please do so in the dedicated threads and not in the deal discussion thread. In the dedicated threads you will find CAGers with the same specialized interest who will be much quicker (and happier) to respond than in the Deals thread.

Steam Retail Key List

What is a CD key and where can I find it?

https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=7480-WUSF-3601

The CD Key is a serial number with a combination of 13, 18, or 25 letters and numbers - it can be found on a sticker inside your game's case or printed on the game's quick reference card.
The CD Key acts as your proof of purchase for the game - Steam Support may ask for it if you need to establish your ownership of an account. It is recommended that you keep your CD Key in a safe place to ensure the security of your account.

GTA Complete is actually much cheaper in the UK store. So if you wait until it's 75% off, you can get a UK CAG to help you get it for something like $8. That's what I did during the 2011 Holiday sale.

So yeah, assuming that you wanted more than just Vice City, wise move on passing.
AC1 is repetitive as hell but the story is best there. AC2 gave us a better lead character but everything else was such a huge tonal shift that all the bad guys are basically cartoon characters.
I thought some of the early game bad guys were interesting and decently done.

AC1 is worth playing, as long as you do so first. Don't bother trying to get all the collectables--stick to the story. Enjoy the scenery and the coolness of climbing and jumping all over the cities. Then move on to the better games.

Interesting. I guess I should just go into their Regional thread lol. Unless someone here is from the UK.

thanks y'all

Dishonored is worth replaying at least to try swordfighting the whole game. The combat has a sort of brutal satisfaction to it, and the way Pendleton finally shows emotion in the final level makes him sound like a completely different character. Plus, the final battle on High Chaos is a puzzle akin to the rest of the game: Almost a half dozen different ways to clear it depending on what powers you're packing or how diligent you are at exploration.
Subsoap accounts are now live. On a whim I just checked out their page and saw that the option to create an account. I have redeemed my IB key.

I saw no announcement email and found no mention of it when I searched the thread. I have no idea when it happened.

There's a new Halloween themed game in my account that should have playable builds later this month.

edit: It looks like the relaunch came out about a month ago.
Just redeemed mine too, glad I went back to read the pages I skipped to catch up lol
Disagree. It isn't. It's not great either. Best one-line-description I can give is that it's like mini-managing your own MMO group (tank/healer/damage dealer) but it's a bit grindy.

Wait for 75% off if you're tempted.
Agreed with your... disagreement. It doesn't really play like Diablo/Torchlight it plays more like a hero-based RTS sort of like some of those Warcraft 3 mods. Also agree that it has many flaws. Also also requires Win 7/DX 10 in case anyone is running on an old laptop or desktop or whatever.
Vice City was extremely tempting on the $2.50 deal yesterday but I passed 'cause I figured I'd wait for the GTA Franchise Pack for $12. Good move?
I want to throw in my confirmation, as well - That is definitely the best move. I recall paying about $7.50 for the GTA Complete pack several sales ago, which included GTA3, Vice City, and San Andreas along with the original two. (I don't believe GTA: London, 1961 ever made it to the PC.) Definitely, you'll get more value from the Complete Pack.

A bunch of Kalypso titles had a 'retail' version added to the Steam registry so maybe a possible Kalypso Indie Gala (outlandish guess)?
Now for a related but different question. I own AC2/ACB retail and the keys are tied to my Uplay account. If I were to pick them up on steam would I be able to give my steam cdkeys to someone along with my retail copies and they play that way? I don't really want to have two copies on uplay and I would like to get them on steam, especially since the retail packages don't add anything.
Reposting on a newer page in case someone knows.
Reposting on a newer page in case someone knows.
I wouldn't see why not. Your steam cdkeys wouldn't be tied to anything other than your steam account, but ubi wouldn't know that. so when the other person uses them on their uplay account it would then be there's, and I doubt ubi cares where you get the data (disc or steam) and just care about you having the key.

Why not just redeem the steam keys you have?
I don't think your question makes sense to me.
It sounds like you have steam redeemable keys but you want to buy directly from steam and give the keys you already have to someone else.

No he owns retail keys for the games which are tied to his uplayd account. He wants to buy additional copies on steam so I'm assuming he doesn't need to keep track of the physical media. He would then give the keys he receives on steam to his friend that would use the CDs to install the game and they keys to tie to their uplay account.

I was thrown off by "give my steam cdkeys." He is referencing the uplay keys that steam gives you. I think I got it now.

Are there any known issues with getting BioShock 2 to play well with Steam? I just got the game from the BioShock dual pack. It uses GFWL, doesn't it?
My GameTap survey voucher just showed up in my email, for anyone wondering if that was ever going to come.
I got mine as well, and got the Hearthfire Skyrim DLC. Looking forward to playing some Skyrim again though I am somewhat afraid of how many hours I will put in since I already have over a hundred and still have more to do.

Exactly. When I get around to it I'm going to compare the formatting of the keys with a friend's copy to see if they're noticeably different. I'm not in any rush since they'll always go on sale again, and technically I could redownload them from uplay, but that's yet another client.

Huh? You do know that if you are going to play AC2, AC:B, AC:R you are going to have to install Uplay, right?

It doesn't look like GameTap really has... sales...

Deciding between picking up some Civ5 DLC or waiting for the XCOM DLC to hit and snagging that for whatever discount 5$ will put it at. (It CAN'T be more than 10 when it comes out, right? From the announcement today it sounded pretty paltry...)

I just picked up Yakuza 4 PS3 for under four bucks at a KMart, so you actually make it sound like finding decent games for GameTap's $5 voucher is easy with that comparison. ;)

Tempted again by the BioShock 2-pack. Have both on disc, played a few hours into the first one and intend to get back to them some day. Just not sure I "need" them on Steam.
Huh? You do know that if you are going to play AC2, AC:B, AC:R you are going to have to install Uplay, right?
This. They all require Uplay. If you get them from Steam, the only difference is that you have to have Steam open along with Uplay. So even if you get steam keys, you need to insert that key into Uplay in order to use them. You might be able to use the discs to install the games onto your friend's computer, but you will need to use the Steam key to activate them on his Uplay account. I also don't think you'd even be able to activate 2 copies on 1 Uplay account anyway, so I wouldn't worry about that. What you can do is gift the steam keys to your friend, give him the discs to install the games, and see if those keys work.
Any thoughts on the Babylonia vs. Polynesia DLC for Civ 5?
Polynesia. It comes with a neat scenario and that Kamehameha is a sexy motherfucker.

I'm aware of that. It's just irritating not having them on steam, and the cases are a waste of space on my shelf. At least I don't have AC:R retail or I'd never find a deal on the dlc.

That's the solution that he suggested to begin with. He never implied that he was trying to get around using uplay.
has anyone tried out Hotline Miami yet? It looks good but dunno if its gonna be too short
Hotline Miami is short. It's a four hour game or so. Personally, I love it. It's unlike anything I played before. It's a murder sim, really. Violent as hell. And not just because of the gore. Everyone dies in pretty much one shot, you included. So largely it's a game of you eying an area and plotting the best sweep to get through and murder everyone without taking a bullet, knife, golf club, or dog bite. People die in one solid swing of a melee weapon or one bullet and the way the melee weapons swing with such finality that you're much more Dexter than Jack Bauer.

Guns are situational. You get only what's in the clip and firing them will alert most of the floor. That COULD work out to your advantage, but really only if you can kill that many fast. They have lightning reflexes and they don't miss the way your mouse aiming can. Maybe you want to hide around the corner of the door and swing away like a Mount and Blade castle siege after alerting them or maybe you just want to not be there when they investigate the gun fire.

The stealth isn't great, enemy AI is pathetic and what it takes for them to notice you is highly situational, but the retries are Meat Boy fast so it's almost just as much fun losing and retrying.

Only downside is that the bosses are really lousy. I love bosses but these just sorta turn what is ostensibly a high lethality, pseudo-realistic game back into something more video gamey without making it clear they're changing the rules. They aren't hard, and the checkpoints ensure you aren't going to lose anything dying to them, but it feels like your chain got yanked a different direction.

Got my codes from Gametap today as well. I was going to get Hearthfire and the eXceed Collection ($9.95) but unfortunately the vouchers don't stack. Ended up getting Hearthfire and two Civ V DLCs. Oh well, I'll take DLC that probably should've been included in the original release for free...
Any thoughts on the Babylonia vs. Polynesia DLC for Civ 5?
I have heard a lot of people saying they don't like DLC packs for Civ 5, but I definitely got my money's worth out of these. I have not found a mod that comes anywhere close to the scenarios in the official DLC packs.

Maybe this is a good time to ask people what are some of the best mods?

Walking Dead for $15 is appealing with the final episode out soonish... but not from Gamestop. I'll wait for the Steam Halloween sale and hope for a good price there.

The only reasonable deals on there are the Dead Space games and Alice Madness Returns for $5 each. I didn't see any good deals on Steam games.
Bioshock 2's DLC is only available through the GFWL store, right? Are there ever sales?
Yes, actually. I've seen them go half off a couple of times. Don't know how to watch for it, I only noticed it when other CAGs posted it here.

Alan Wake American Nightmare: $7.49

Several others but some (Like The Darkness II for $10.19) are not a very good price. Also, it's Gamestop.
American Nightmare is overpriced wherever you go. It's one of those games where you get locked in a time loop and end up replaying the same few levels repeatedly while fulfilling different objectives, which is a nice marketing ploy to artificially increase the length of a game when you haven't produced enough game content. Mine was free, but I wouldn't pay more than $5 for it; it's disappointing in nearly every aspect in comparison to the first game.

Also, it's Gamestop.
