Welcome to the Steam Deal Thread V5! You can find link to past threads at the bottom of this post. Read post #2 of this thread for Steam FAQs and more.

This is a Wiki post. Please read this
We appreciate you helping keep this thread up to date. The sales change virtually every day so no one person has the time to update them all. If you notice a game is no longer on sale, feel free to delete its line from the sale list. Of course, if you see a game is on sale, add it to the list. Make sure your changes match the thread's format! For example, every game that's on sale is part of an unordered list. When adding a game to the list, copy an existing line and update the link, title, and prices. That way, the format stays correct. Do not list percentages off! We list the original price and the sale price here. If you have any suggestions for major changes to the post/thread, PM me (EastX) about them.
for instructions on updating the thread.

Preorder Deals - Updated 10/28
Group Buys - Updated 8/14

Several multiplayer Steam games are available in 2-packs or 4-packs. These packs offer a discount over buying multiple copies of a game separately. We also maintain group buy trade threads for several games, so please use those threads if you're interested in setting up a group buy.

Free Stuff - Updated 4/3

There are several free games and mods on Steam. These are a few choice ones; you can find a full list here. Note that free games are not permanently attached to your Steam account like actual purchases would be. You'll need to manually download a game again from the website if you uninstall it.

Steam around CAG

If you are interested in joining the Steam CAG Community or participating in a trade or group buy with fellow Cheap Ass Gamers, please do so in the dedicated threads and not in the deal discussion thread. In the dedicated threads you will find CAGers with the same specialized interest who will be much quicker (and happier) to respond than in the Deals thread.

Visit www.steamgamesales.com to check previous sale prices on Steam games. We do keep track of some older sales here though:

Steam Retail Key List

What is a CD key and where can I find it?

https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=7480-WUSF-3601

The CD Key is a serial number with a combination of 13, 18, or 25 letters and numbers - it can be found on a sticker inside your game's case or printed on the game's quick reference card.
The CD Key acts as your proof of purchase for the game - Steam Support may ask for it if you need to establish your ownership of an account. It is recommended that you keep your CD Key in a safe place to ensure the security of your account.

I'm willing to believe that it's simply a matter of my already owning everything I'd want from it, but I don't see any place to spend my money this Halloween sale. Content to hold out for Black Friday and beyond.

Well there's your problem right there. That's not what your backlog is for!

Whatever happened to multitasking?

Found this deal in my email for 75% off The Walking Dead

aww well, just spent my last 5 on Darkness 2, so didn't even click the link but wanted to pass it on. Thanks for the heads up you two.
And sorry for the previous post, I tried to copy and paste the website after trying to save the whole thing as an image failed spectacularly.

I doubt Groupees. Maybe Indie Facekick if anything. They've proven time and again that they can land those hidden indie gems like a Skyrim.

Skyrim on a thumb drive!

I am considering getting the base Groupees Bundle of the Damned for the game Cryostasis. I would like to hear from fellow backloggers: Is the game fun for the first few hours? Because these days, if a game can't deliver fun value right away, it will stay in the backlog till eternity ... Thanks!

I like Legendary. I heard it was buggy but I haven't gotten to them I guess? Nothing like shooting at mythical creatures flying in the air.

Like over $5? fuck that. That's highway robbery.

And also, considering that both Steam and Amazon (which supposedly gives a Steam code?) have The Walking Dead @ $14.99, where to get?

No. I used to feel the way you feel but then I realized that steam/CAG is more like a game itself. Gotta Buy Them All on sale. I now have no guilt about it. My wife has accepted it and doesnt even ask anymore when I tell her it was a deal and my eyes light up.

I have the perfect wifestyle. My wife actually really likes it when I play games and likes to watch.

Although there is money and someone should write a book series or comic with titles like:

How to get a gf and still play video games.
How to get into college and still play video games.
How to get a job and still play video games.
How to get a wife and still play video games.
How to have a kid and still play video games.
How to replace your hip and still play video games.

Gamefly. Use code BETATHANKS to get it for $11.99.

As far as I've seen, all copies that aren't directly from Telltale use Steamworks. The one on Gamefly does.
Anyone knows what sort of DRM The Walking Dead has?
Walking Dead is Steamworks. It all requires Steam with the exception of copies purchased direct from Telltale.

Play the demo. I was sold within a few minutes and I wasn't even particularly interested in the game. Main character is likable and the game has a sense of humor.

Found this postlaunch review: http://postlaunch.blogspot.hk/2011/12/legendary.html

Some of the quotes: "The basic premise of the game is pretty cool. Fight powerful mythological creatures with modern weaponry? Yes please!";

"I don't expect FPS games to be long. 8 or 10 hours is pretty normal. Legendary, however, was 4 hours long, at least for me. That's not a bad thing, as long as you know and expect it before you buy the game."

"Verdict: Legendary isn't a great game, but it's a competent (if short) shooter with a fun premise and some real badassery. It's only $10 on Steam, and probably less during sales. It's worth that much at least, and you'll have some fun with it."

With the verdict, I guess for a $1 ($.5 if you include Cryostasis), it can't be too wrong :)

I'm at the point with at the price point I buy games, unless it's an RPG I hope it's kind of short. If I'm paying a couple bucks for a game I want to to be a short, tight experience. RPGs, as I said, are the exception.
I'm gonna go ahead and be a total killjoyass here, but if you need help cutting down on adding to your backlog, try guilt. Think about how many hours you put into gaming versus actually productive activities. I'd counter this by saying that the time I could've used to maybe help a charity possible help some unknown person in need was actually better employed by playing XCOM and actually saving the planet from alien invasion. No amount of charity work will do that.

It's all about seeing the bigger picture.

Does Mount & Blade Collection for $5.62 (Steamworks, from GMG) make sense if I'm only interested in single-player? Any opinions?

Lots of SP mods for Warband. And even unmoded, Warband is very fun single player.

I've played Warband single player and found it entertaining. I've described it before as sort of a cross between Medieval: Total War and Sid Meier's Pirates! It definitely has the whole "Just one more 'turn'" thing down.

I can't speak for the other two but everyone seems to agree that Warband is the strongest game anyway.

Obviously I haven't put enough hours into gaming if I still have this huge backlog.

Thanks. It looks like the cheapest Warband has been on Steam is $4.99, so to get the first 2 games as well for just an extra $0.63 sound like a great deal. I think I'll be getting it after all... as if my backlog wasn't huge already.

I paid $7.50 a few months back and I've only played...er, 85 hours. Right. No complaint over not getting it cheaper here.

Needless to say, I rather like Mount & Blade, and I've only played single-player.

Thanks, that sounds very tempting. I would buy it right now if only I didn't have endless problems trying to order from GMG. Their support is pretty helpful, but they've already had to fix something in my account 3 times this morning and now it doesn't work again. For those who are having trouble with ordering I suggest to open a support ticket and they will take care of it, at least temporarily.
