Welcome to the Steam Deal Thread V5! You can find link to past threads at the bottom of this post. Read post #2 of this thread for Steam FAQs and more.

This is a Wiki post. Please read this
We appreciate you helping keep this thread up to date. The sales change virtually every day so no one person has the time to update them all. If you notice a game is no longer on sale, feel free to delete its line from the sale list. Of course, if you see a game is on sale, add it to the list. Make sure your changes match the thread's format! For example, every game that's on sale is part of an unordered list. When adding a game to the list, copy an existing line and update the link, title, and prices. That way, the format stays correct. Do not list percentages off! We list the original price and the sale price here. If you have any suggestions for major changes to the post/thread, PM me (EastX) about them.
for instructions on updating the thread.

Preorder Deals - Updated 10/28
Group Buys - Updated 8/14

Several multiplayer Steam games are available in 2-packs or 4-packs. These packs offer a discount over buying multiple copies of a game separately. We also maintain group buy trade threads for several games, so please use those threads if you're interested in setting up a group buy.

Free Stuff - Updated 4/3

There are several free games and mods on Steam. These are a few choice ones; you can find a full list here. Note that free games are not permanently attached to your Steam account like actual purchases would be. You'll need to manually download a game again from the website if you uninstall it.

Steam around CAG

If you are interested in joining the Steam CAG Community or participating in a trade or group buy with fellow Cheap Ass Gamers, please do so in the dedicated threads and not in the deal discussion thread. In the dedicated threads you will find CAGers with the same specialized interest who will be much quicker (and happier) to respond than in the Deals thread.

Steam Retail Key List

What is a CD key and where can I find it?

https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=7480-WUSF-3601

The CD Key is a serial number with a combination of 13, 18, or 25 letters and numbers - it can be found on a sticker inside your game's case or printed on the game's quick reference card.
The CD Key acts as your proof of purchase for the game - Steam Support may ask for it if you need to establish your ownership of an account. It is recommended that you keep your CD Key in a safe place to ensure the security of your account.

Bought 15, i"m ready for the holiday sale now on Steams dime!
Daily deal is DCS Blackshark for 150% off, costing you a cool -$10.01.
That's quite a deal.

Can you imagine how sweet the deal is in Russia and The Ukraine though? Gotta be 250% off over there.
Daily deal is DCS Blackshark for 150% off, costing you a cool -$10.01.
Apparently Steam decided this deal wasn't valid and has now made it 75% off, $4.99. With these pricing tactics I may have to switch to Origin for my backlogging needs.

Edit: I just talked to my son's cousin's dad's sister's husband, who took a business law class in college 10 years ago, and he said this is bait and switch pricing or something. I can probably recover large sums of money since I intended to buy thousands of copies for starving kids across the world.

OK, serious question: has anybody actually gotten the 75% off of Trine 2 coupon to work?
I've now entered my third or fourth code for 75% off of Trine 2 and I still can't get any damn discount to show up.
That was also the case for me, until I saw a new message alerting of a coupon added to my inventory, and I was able to check and use the coupon only after reading said message.

Dunno if that was a coincidence, but it may be worth checking your Steam account inbox first...

And if you are making a list of people who could not get the Trine 2 coupon to work, you can add me to it.

This is a 75% Trine 2 coupon from the SummerSeal. Somebody check if it works. If so, I think I have another couple of them.

KA2JP-EF7JC-3BGAK

If you get a coupon, it should be valid until January 16th. Though it specifically says that it doesn't stack with other promos. So no getting Trine 2 for a buck.

Yep, it worked. Aren't these things tradeable? Couldn't you just activate them to your account and trade them to anyone that wanted one?

Yup, they're tradable. But I figure that it's probably just easier to hand out the codes. That way people can just redeem them themselves and I don't have to go to the trouble of adding people to my friends list and trading it to them.

I'm gonna go check what else i have left over from the Summer Seal.

Semi-deal for Hero Academy enthusiasts...
Steam has Hero Academy and all teams (but the new Shaolin) on sale for half off. This is kewl because any content bought for one platform becomes available for the other.
Buying individual character packs gets you the new team and 17 avatars (3 seperate purchases in the app) and you net some TF2 hats for your troubles.

$8.50 steam purchase for gold pack gets the 4 available teams (each with 17 avatars), the Team Fortress 2 team you only get if you buy the steam version, and the uniform color pack.
All together this would cost about $5 for all teams (no option to buy TF2 team). $8 for all the avatars and another $1 for more uniform colors.
$14 for almost everything on iOS or $8.50 for everything on iOS and Steam and some TF2 hats to boot.
I know i'm getting this, just figured i'd let others in on my logic in case they like the idea
What games are people choosing from the current Build-A-Bundle on Groupees? I'll probably grab Velvet Assassin but I'm not sure what else.
I grabbed Velvet Assassin, Qasir, and Vitrum

Waiting for an even steeper sale myself. Yes, I'm that cheap. It's certainly more geared for iOS as something you casually play and make a move every few hours (days?).
Okay, so I've spent like 2 hours playing Yeti Hunter today, and after those 2 hours I'm left begging the question "wtf?". Yeah, I get it's free, and seems pretty low-key, but holy crap the potential that this game has is incredible. Maybe it's just me, but this game hits all of the main points of what makes a great thriller/suspense game. It has the atmosphere, it has the edginess, but I do have a couple of big complaints with it.

Review, I guess:

First of all, the game is about hunting Yeti, Yeti being kinda "mysterious" by themselves, which kinda adds to the game's thrill. Having said that, the game is completely focused entirely on that (hunting Yeti), which would be fine if the assumed outcome were to be do-able (killing/shooting a Yeti). Yeah, you're given a gun, yes you can shoot said gun while scoped, but where the fail comes from is trying to put that gun to its intended use.

When you do find a Yeti, and you scope to shoot it, it just disappears instead of letting you shoot it like a normal game... = super annoying.

Yes, I'm complaining about a free game, and yes, I do have 1750+ games I COULD be playing in place of it; I don't know what's wrong with me. But this game has potential, and a lot of it (well, the premise at least).

One thing it does great is with atmosphere. From what I gather, you wake up, apparently attacked, in an open alpine forest-like place. You're surrounded by open fields covered with snow, snow "falling", a fair amount of trees and shrubs, listening to atmospheric music. You walk around and find what I thought were Yeti footprints (which is how I seen them), which turn out to be "arrows" with the single indicating the tip of the arrow.

You're supposed to head in the general direction of the "arrows" to track the Yeti. You may see one, or one of many human-looking piles of snow. I found myself lost many times because you have nothing but the trees and shrubs (and "arrows" if they happen to be around) to give you a sense of direction, but they all look the same for the most part, being a budget game. If you happen to lose your sense of direction, climbing a tree may be of assistance (but wasn't really helpful for me most of the time). Other than that, you're on your own to use the "arrows" to track down Yeti. You find one, you scope, it disappears. If you don't scope, you can follow it for a couple of seconds after which it goes out of your field of vision since it moves in bursts instead of at a steady pace.

Another thing it does right is the thrill. You start the game in daylight with what I'd call mysterious music playing, but about 4 minutes later (and continues to alternate in 4-minute intervals) it instantly turns to darkness (halving your field of view) and horror music starts playing. At first, I quickly climbed up the nearest tree I could find and peered down at the ground around me in fear. After realizing that the Yeti pose no threat at all (at least from what I experienced), I "nutted" up and began hunting Yeti at nighttime as well (this took me about 1 hour of playing to gather the courage to do so ;)). However, at first playthrough, I was really drawn in by the game and definitely wanted to play more.

In the end, I would recommend at least playing the game for 10 minutes, at least. While there is no clear end to the game, at least from what I experienced, the game does what it does do very well. Plus, it's free here (discovered it through the current IndieGameStand deal, which includes it if you BTA; again, it's free from this site). ;)

So why the hell did I write this for some game I downloaded for free and will never play again? I have no fucking idea. =]

TL;DR: Yeti Hunter is what I would call a casual game that does 2 things very well: atmosphere and thrill. Get it here. ;)
So it is impossible to kill him?

Caveat: People who have recently bought it are not getting their TF2 hats.

I'm just happy somebody will TAKE the damn things. I've got Skyrim keys flowing out every orifice.

Yesterday a Skyrim code formed in my bowl of Alpha-Bits.

EDIT: In case anyone thinks that was just a coincidence, I tried it again with Crispix and the same thing happened.

Can I have a skyrim code please?

Everybody calm down, there's more than enough Skyrim keys to go around, but to make it easy for me, I can only give them out in groups of five.

What you do with your extra four keys is up to you, but they can't stay here.

Don't Skyrim and drive.

Oh man, thanks for the XCOM key Drabe!

If anyone is looking for an XCOM key, Drabelincoln has a bunch of them he's trying to get rid of.

Just PM him about it. (He can be quite the scatterbrain, if he doesn't respond, just send him another one!)
