Any opinions on if the Risen 2 DLC is worthwhile?

This is the first time it's hit 75% and I've been wrestling with the idea of actually starting the base game for some time now.

Also, I seem to remember talk of the Van Helsing co-op being a bit busted?

Is that still the case?

Darn you people now have me really wanting Euro Truck Simulator 2. This site is supposed to help you save money! Right!?
No, thats the illusion of cag. You think your saving money and yes while you get things cheaper your actually spending far more on cheap things than you ever would have had you remained ignorant of this places exsistence.

Hm. We'll have to agree to disagree, I expect. I don't necessarily need my hand held in a game, but I do like to have a clear set of objectives that are not difficult to find. Maybe that's some folks' definition of "hand-holding" and that's okay, but personally if I don't get that, I'm probably not going to like or finish your game. I didn't care for the two Gothics or Oblivion for this reason.
Are you saying Oblivion didn't hold your hand with its journal that listed every quest and "GO RIGHT HERE" map maker that signified exactly where you needed to go to complete quests. Even if you never went to your map to see where the quest was leading you all you had to do was simply follow the marker on the compass.

On another note, It is going to be a sad day if gaming ever gets to the point in which Call of Duty is not considered hand-holding.

^ That.  Oblivion is almost a textbook case of 'hand-holding' with its quest compasses and level-scaling.

I think the value of Garry's Mod is really dependent on how much you like the freedom to create whatever you want and how much time you want to put into it. At its base it really just is mini-movie type thing. I spent a few minutes in it arranging things, adding items, characters, etc. It was like "oh neat" for me for 5 minutes, but I haven't returned to it. If you can see yourself spending hours creating things in it and running things then I'm sure it's great fun. If you want a game to play or something with a purpose/goal then I would avoid it.
Yeah, that's what I thought. I may watch some videos and decide then.

Far Cry 1 is pretty standard fare for an FPS. At the time, it had some inventive components, such as being pretty open world allowing you to take multiple approaches. I seem to recall a big deal being made about the physics and destructible environments, but that was a while ago. The story is decent and the final battle is pretty epic, though the plot twists we a little eye-roll worthy.

Far Cry 2 I would hands down recommend. It is a great introduction to the style of play you will find in 3. It always gave me this badass "one with the jungle" kind of vibe. I sort of got sidetracked away from the story and would fire it up just to wander out into the jungle and handle secondary objectives for a few hours. That ended up being the downside, though as I never finished the actual game...you will easily get your $2.50 out of it though.
I actually enjoyed the first game more than the second. The first was super-cool up until halfway when it became much more linear. Yeah, the graphics are a bit dated by today's standards, but they were ground-breaking at the time and still hold up reasonably well.

I guess I could just never get over the hump with Far Cry 2. It looks amazing and I had a good time shooting in the first area or two, but then it just became a chore for me to go on. Between the constant Malaria outbreaks (what a horrible idea for a shooting game) and the infinitely spawning guard areas, it just made me not want to play. Now, had I slogged on and made it to some new "fun" plateau, I might have come to appreciate what they were doing. I just couldn't get there.

I will find GabeN and do bad things to him.

I seem to recall that you got banned for posting porn?

Idiotekque_banned.PNG
Ahh, but that was for posting censored cartoon My Little Pony porn! The one girl mod saw it, so I didn't even get a warning.

(I'm also mildly disturbed that you took the time to save that picture.)

Getting tired of "OMG GameX is rad! Buy it!" posts... they'd be much improved by sharing a bit of your experience and possibly comparing it to to other games.
We could always go back to arguing about television, if it would please you.

For anyone considering ETS2, Inside Sim Racing actually did a really comprehensive review: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GFw_KmEht1A

Also, Amazon did PM: http://www.amazon.com/Euro-Truck-Simulator-2-Download/dp/B00AIALGZK/ref=sr_1_1?s=videogames&ie=UTF8&qid=1374174430&sr=1-1&keywords=euro+truck+simulator

Comments suggest it'll activate on Steam, can anyone confirm?

^ That. Oblivion is almost a textbook case of 'hand-holding' with its quest compasses and level-scaling.
Nope, level-scaling is not what I mean. That's whole different conversation (frankly, I'm not a fan of level scaling). Level-scalling is sort of the opposite end of the spectrum from tossing you into the world virtually naked and able to be easily killed by any passing firefly (a la Gothic).

Quest compasses could be considered hand-holding by some (as I stated previously), but, as I also said previously, if you don't show me where your quests are, I'm probably not doing them. IMO, we moved beyond drawing pencil-and-paper maps when playing a game twenty years ago for a reason--a very good reason.

Oblivion made me wander around its huge landscape going from one city to another on foot because I couldn't steal or afford to buy a horse. It was really boring. And I enjoy pretending I'm a giant golden-skinned lizard on a routine basis.

I wish somebody would hold my hand.

I'm lonely.

And cold.

Does anybody have any idea on how to eat ETS 2 handles without a steering wheel? Im kinda without one but would love to bite on this game.

I bought The Witcher 2 earlier since I missed it for 4.99 the other day and just the opening cinematic sets the tone and it is a damn good tone. It was so cool how they did it and am very excited to play more of it. I can't believe I almost didn't pick it up again. Thanks for talking me into picking the game up.

TW2 is great. The story can be a little hard to follow with the different factions and leaders being tossed about rather casually if you're not paying close attention, but the overall tale of Geralt is engrossing even if the local and regional politics can be a bit mystifying. If you like the opening cinematic for TW2, you should definitely watch the one for TW1.

CD Projekt Red makes really great RPGs. I did the terribly unCAGly thing of pre-ordering TW2 and I don't regret it. I'm looking forward to The Wild Hunt.

^_^ At least you were supporting a good dev!

...I hear there's a special place in hell for people who pre-order EA games.

Never played Risen. Is a uber-fantastic game that I need to play right now? Is a must buy because it don't goes on sale too often? Can't check enhanced Steam, I'm on mobile

Hmm, maybe that's just not true for men.

...or maybe my ReformSchoolGirl17 alias attracts the wrong type. ^_~
It's funny you would think my old Steam name through all the years would have attracted a bunch of attention but it never did. I think it's the profile picture xD that's attracting the wrong type Asheskitty.

Fox, you're the king of simulators. I'm surprised you even needed the demo!

Yeah, not usually, but given the hours I put into ETS 1 and the price tag on this one I was both skeptical of this one being that much better and paying a lot for it.

This one has better customization of trucks, the scenery/graphics are a vastly improved, and it has little things like letting you drop MP3s into the file folders and then playing them on the truck radio.

I wish it had more diverse driver profiles, but I guess this is Euro so I shouldn't expect too much variety there.

Did you run out of traders, sellers, and off-topic posters to chide and net nanny?
Oooooh, move over spoder, Gen is the new net nanny.

Far Cry 3 is too rich for my cheap ass, but are 1 or 2 worth it still? At $2.50 each they are cheap enough, but the graphics on the screenshot from 1 look really dated (the game is 2004, I know)

Also, is it an action game with some FPS elements, or an FPS with some action elements? I don't tend to care for shooters (i.e. Halo, CoD, Battlefield, etc) but action games with a shooting element are fine.
Pretty much everyone has put in good info about the Far Cry games, but I'll throw this in there. Far Cry 2 is awesome, but it's best played as an extremely hardcore survival game. It's rough and not for the faint of heart, because you'll be needing to find cover to heal yourself on the fly, repairing your vehicle after it gets damaged, taking pills (and keeping them on hand) to combat malaria, running into loads of enemies, etc. It's rough, but it's also great fun.

These mods add a lot to the game, and I wouldn't suggest playing it without them:

Dylan's Realism Mod

"This mod fixes what Ubisoft left unfixed. Dylan's Realism Mod changes Far Cry 2 from an Africa-based sedan and pickup truck simulator into a (semi accurate) African conflict simulator. Realistic weapon damage, recoil, realistic ammo loads and weapon reliability have been added, along with a more effective stealth suit, and revamped AI weapons. (No more SPAS12s and AR15s for militiamen). Checkpoint AI has been tweaked as well. Checkpoint guards now have a 60% chance to chase you after passing through, as opposed to 90%-100% in vanilla. Militiamen also communicate more frequently in combat, and use suppressing fire more often. However, you are now as vulnerable as the AI. A single burst of rifle fire can kill you, so you are probably going to need that extra ammo and stealth suit."

Graphical Enhancement Suite

Brings Africa to life by removing every last trace of the original color filter.

Tones down the depth of field for a crisp, clean appearance.
Sharpens textures to bring out small details.
Enhances bloom without making the effect disruptive by blinding the player.

The first mod just plain makes the game better, and what it should have been, while the second makes it gorgeous. Far Cry 3's story and character interaction IS better, and the open world aspect is better too, but Far Cry 2 is very similar and is also a solid game, more than worth $2.50.

Enjoy!

In my first few days of being a PC gamer I saw Witcher 2 on sale for $40 and thought that was an amazing deal. I bought it and have yet to play it after 2 years. I tried to start but was overwhelmed, was not much of a serious RPG gamer at that time. I think I could handle it now, waiting for the right mood to strike me. Seeing it for $5 is hard on me. :(

Way back when Steam had a contest to win your top 10 wishlist game's I ended up winning Witcher 2 so have it had day one and still only played like 10 minutes of it as I still need to play Witcher 1 first, so much backlog. =(

Can confirm it activates on Steam. The code is in your game library after you purchase the game - just look for the words 'activation key' under the game title to find it.

I think even people who are fans of Risen 1 would not say that it's "must-play" material.

i gave in and bought War Z lol. I'll post my impressions of it later, also grabbed Van Helsing.
WarZ always shows up on Steam's top "current players" list, despite the constant internet rage that gets spouted over it. Watched a couple streams of people playing it to see what the hype was all about, and while it's not for me (already filled my zombies killed in a lifetime quota), they seemed to enjoy it enough.

Obviously there is enough market demand for multiple zombie games.

Then again, there could just be 4000 Russian bots logged in right now.

I noticed that there were a lot of Latin American players in WarZ which was a nice surprise for me. They chat in Spanish a lot.

Smash Cars at 80% off ($2). Has anyone played this? I know there's never anyone in this thread showing great enthusiasm for racers but I thought I would throw it out there. :D I kid! I kid!

I had this on PS3. It brings back some nostalgia for RC racers of the past and has some neat environments. Because of the RC motif, the controls feel a bit loose and the handling is kind of floaty. If you are just looking for a racer, I would look elsewhere, particularly Burnout Paradise. You lose the RC environments, but the extreme racing (jumps, flips, rolls and spins) feel far more satisfying because the cars have a weight and momentum to them. When you do flips and rolls in Smash Cars, its just the car model rotating on an invisible axis.

I play a lot of racers and Smash Cars just didn't hold my attention for very long. I guess $2 is too bad, but it could be better used elsewhere.

Today was a good day for the sale.

Bought Sang-Froid, Euro Truck Simulator, and Van Helsing. All for reasonable amounts.

The icing on the cake will be a decent discount on Prison Architect tomorrow. If we get anything like a 33% or 40% on Rogue Legacy as well, I'll be over the moon.

Happy days.

:whee:

Anyone had any issues with getaway cards not dropping? I made a purchase 3 hours ago that said I should have gotten 2 cards, but none have dropped yet. I did get the one from voting though, weirdly.
