CAG Threads Featuring Steam Games on Sale Elsewhere - Updated 1/9

Past CAG Steam Deal Threads

I bought Dust for 50% off, but it's a PC port for PC gamers.  It shows some damned respect for us.  So, I decided that respect deserves more cash.

But we still wait for sales... ;)  Risen 2 seems tempting and I'm totally getting Sang-Froid.

I have quite a few collectors editions...

Borderlands 2 Ultimate Loot Chest - $150
Dead Rising 2 CE - $50
Final Fantasy XIII CE - $50
Final Fantasy XIII-2 CE - $40
Fallout New Vegas CE - $90

I could go on... but I won't.

I thought there was a special place in hell for CAG's who buy at 50% off. 66% is forgivable. We're only human after all. But 50%, nay, verily I say unto to you, those who prophesie as CAG's with reckless abandon and not practice the ways thereof shall now the days woe and there will be nashing of teeth. And in the days of glory they shall be left to bare witness of the rising of the true CAG's, as they are finally given eternity to play through their backlog. Gaben has set forth in his work, and he saw that it was good. Amen.
Now that I have discovered CAG and Steam it takes a special game to get my attention at 50% off. It has to be one I will play immediately.

Let's see, going backwards:

Future: Skyrim - I will buy the legendary edition at 50% off

9/20/2012 - I paid full price for Torchlight 2. I played it immediately, and I played it a lot

9/4/2011 - Batman Arkham Asylum GotY for $30. This was my first ever Steam purchase

At some point before that:

I bought the Orange Box (Retail) and bitched for months about this stupid program called Steam I had to install. I just wanted to play Portal

I bought Dragon's Age: Origins about a month after release, retail full price, after watching my (now) brother-in-laws playing it

Before that...

I bought my Gamecube the week the Wii came out

Nintendo 64 once the Gamecube was out

The Pokemon games were the only gameboy games I bought on release day

SNES was the only console I bought (was gifted, actually) when it was still relevant.

So JakeNome has the Valve Complete Pack listed for $25 with an accompanying hot head emoticon which seems appropriate.  I think I remember reading here that you get gift copies of games you already own from this bundle because it is Valve and they can make that kind of magic happen.  Is that true or did I just make it up?

Anyone have any problems with the summer badge progress not updating after a purchase?  I picked up the 2 XCom DLCs, and my badge progress (for a card) is still where it was before the purchase.  I've filed a complaint with Valve support, but I'm curious if anyone else has experienced this.

If this is true I would love it confirmed.

Also, you guys think the Thief games will get a deeper discount? 66 percent right now.

Well Counter strike GO won the vote, can't say I am surprised. Hopeful the next vote choices are decent and I am building up hope for the new flash deals though it will likely be crushed.

I keep telling myself, maybe Strike suit zero will be among the new flashes each and every time they count down.

Just wait it out. During the sale I bought $22 worth of games and it didn't give me my two cards for almost half an hour. I voted on the next vote and earned a card through that, then about 5 minutes later my two cards for my purchase showed up. It was a little weird, but I had already finished my summer sale badge so I wasn't too worried.

I can attest to delays as well. Bought Torchlight II 4 pack, took 30 minutes for my card to appear.

Holy **** I just got CS: GO for $0.14 o.o
that's the one cool thing about Steam I do like is that when a price mistake happens they don't penalize you at all, unlike the talks of us penny metro users possibly getting banned from bestbuy.com

BL2 dlc is marked down 66 to 67%. I don't believe all the cosmetic stuff was marked down that far when it was one of the daily deals if anyone is interested. I'm passing, none of the cosmetic stuff does it for me.

I didnt even think twice about it! I saw 0.14 and all i could think was to add to cart and check out. I was shaking lol. Sorry i didnt even think twice about buying more than one, I was only thinking about myself, I would have happily sold them to everyone here! Its funny because I didnt even remember to check the new sales until 6:02pm so it was there for at least 4min I would say.

Yea I would have gotten more for people who missed it too but the store crashed on me the second time and then the price was already fixed.

I bring you... my (second) Survivor Story™.

Since my last character was... incapacitated, I was forced to create a new one for the time being. I named my new tiny mustached man Sokray Blue, and immediately thrust him into the zombie world.

We found ourselves in a rather idyllic location, looking over a small lake amidst a lush forest. The sun was beginning to dip down in the sky, and the entire scene actually was quite peaceful and attractive. My Frenchman tried to take a swim, but alas, civilians of the War Z do not know how to swim. Disheartened, he moved on towards the nearest town, keeping his wits ever about him.

[Survivor Stories: Image 1]

It soon became apparent that this was not a pleasant slice of suburbia, instead a rather large town overrun with our undead friends. Flipping his fleshlight off, Mr. Blue snuck towards the first visible house, sure to avoid any zombies that strayed too close. Once inside, he quickly scrounged up a baseball bat out of one of the bedrooms. He was armed!

Moving into the kitchen, the heartwarming silhouette of a rifle on the wall lifted our spirits. Snatching up the .22, sadly we learned there were only three bullets in it, but beggars cannot be choosers, so we moved on upstairs. After searching through every room, the house was learned to be empty besides the two weapons. "Time to leave." we decided, but someone had other plans.

Suddenly--a balding, rather ugly zombie was all up in Sokray's face. How did he find us? Who knows, but the battle was on. Wielding his baseball bat, our hero smashed the zombie upside the head over, and over, and over... Eventually, the ghoul groaned and flopped to the ground. Feeling accomplished, Sokray set back to leaving the house, but NAY, another zombie! Identical to the last one, the twin zombie brother charged, but was met with a dozen deft swings, showers of low resolution blood, and the same fate as his sibling.

Upon their deaths, the zombies seemed to disappear. Shrugging it off, we headed back downstairs, and lo and behold, the twice deceased siblings were laying in the kitchen, somehow having fallen through the floor. Interesting. Mr. Blue pushed on, deeper into the darkening town, evading zombie patrols with as much brilliant stealth skills as sir Snake himself. The sun was sinking lower and lower, and if we didn't find a place to hole up for the night soon, we would surely be zombie chow.

Upon our way, we came across a playground, littered with water, chips, and even a cricket bat. Sokray was never one for that silly game, but it was considerably cleaner than the blood soaked baseball bat, so he equipped the new weapon. Snacking on his chips, he moved further into town, avoiding confrontation as he moved into the business district. With night falling, visibility was poor, but morale was still high.

Our spirits lifted higher when we came across a small military outpost in the middle of the street, made up of sandbags and a humvee. Hopping over a barrier to explore, and hopefully turn up some ammo or guns, what did we come across? Not one, but two HATS. As Sokray triumphantly adorned himself with his new crimson beret, you could almost smell his manly pits, and frog's legs frying in the pan. Stashing the other hat (a camo fisherman style hat), he looked towards the nearest building. Before he could take another step, however, a zombie popped into view, drooling and likely quite jealous of our hats. Wielding his new cricket bat, Sokray beat the pulp out of the undead fellow, and moved on into the building, which we found to be a bank.

A quick search turned up nothing useful besides a bottle of water inside, but the structure looked to be a well defendable position, with a room over the counter and deep inside, with no separate entrances. The Frenchie kicked back and had a drink and a bite to eat as night fell over the town, and perhaps almost nodded off for a bit, until the familiar groaning, ghastly symphony of death sounded from the lobby.

Holding his cricket bat firmly, Sokray moved carefully back to the counter he had hopped over. We had two visitors, a man and a woman, who wanted direly to eat our hero's brains, but seemed to be rather confused by the counter in front of them. They ran around in circles for a bit, and Sokray was brave enough to move up closer, leaning up against the counter. They charged, but upon reaching the counter again, decided to stand still and look to their left. This continued for a few moments before Mr. Blue got bored and smacked them upside their heads a handful of times over the counter.

[Survivor Stories: Image 2] (Yes, it's really that dark.)

With the fiends dispatched, we moved back to the deepest reaches of the bank and decided to take a break, waiting for sunrise.

What ghoulish adventures await the Frenchman? Tune in next time to find out!

Only collectors edition I ever bought was Half Life 2 when it came out. Bought it at "Software Etc." at the mall (now Gamestop). Included HL: Source, Counter Strike: Source, and a t-shirt. Wish I still had that shirt—geeky nostalgia.

I since made a new Steam account when I got Orange Box because of Valve not giving extra copies at the time. I also didn't want my email address as my steam login (an early requirement).

Ok end stupid narrative because no enticing deals are popping up.
