I beat Antichamber (only a few rooms left unsolved). That's a good one if it comes back up on sale.
I've been tempted to get that game, but the bright white screens in all the pictures make me thing it'd give me a bit of a headache. There was a TF2 map that was sort of similar and I could only play it for like 10 minutes before I could really feel my eyes straining.

Yeah, I expect deals to repeat a lot, that's just part of the game now. But when the "flash" deals are running for a whopping 8 hours it does start to grate on the nerves.
The first time they did the flash deals, they were every 6 hours. A lot of people complained that that meant it was possible they'd be sleeping through a deal they might want, so since then they've been 8 hours. It makes sense, I suppose, but I wish when they made the flash deals last longer, they could've added a fifth deal. 6 hour flash deals meant there were 16 flash deals a day; now there are only 12.

Ehh... just a heads up on War Z, watch your GPU temp. Mine was hitting 84 Celsius, which ain't gonna melt anything, but that's REALLY high for such a terrible looking game running on a very strong GPU (680M). There are clearly some problems there, since Battlefield 3 maxed out only makes my GPU hit the low 70s.

Really, if your computer caught on fire while playing War Z... You'd never hear the end of it.

So no one has bought operation payback for CS Global ops? I thought some might since it's only $1 for map packs.
yea I did, figured for 1$ in gaben bucks why not. Not a huge CS player, but played a few rounds, it was fun. From the screenshots all the maps look pretty interesting too

Did you mean Yahoo! Babel Fish Bing Translator Yahoo homepage?
No I meant Altavista's (altavista.digital.com) Babelfish (babelfish.altavista.com). Not all of us have upgraded to Web 2.no

6 hours was rough. 12 hours was dull. 8 hours is just right. #Goldilocks

(Honestly I'd rather they just cut flash/community crap and expand the dailies to their historical numbers.)

Okay after all the fuss over Euro Truck Simulator 2 I really want to know, how accurate is it?  Does it really capture the ins-n-outs of trucking (professional sex workers)?

Ooh, which brings me to a movie recommend ... one of my favorites from Japan (2008) (DVD has subtitles, fyi),

should i buy myself a $20 steam card for my birthday or is the typical end of the sale weekend bad?

i just got a gaming pc less than a month ago so i'm calling upon the steam gods.

You're probably better off just paying with CC/paypal if that's an option. End of Steam Sale is merely recap-day, second chance on some things you missed.

yeah, and sensuous thinking of buying one, you can buy one for my belated birthday on the 17th

Do people ever trade TF2 items for games and stuff? I'd love to offload the crap I've got from a game I won't ever play again.

Best bet would just be to sell it on the market and use the funds to buy the games you want.

Why commit that money to Steam if you're not sure you'll use it. Just pay via credit card/paypal if something comes up, and save your cash for something else if it doesn't.

I'd just like to say that I bought Van Helsing and I think it's goddamn insane that it's a 19.5 GB game.

This isn't against the game, and it probably told me it was that big on its store page.

I just did not expect that.

From a game released on Xbox Live Arcade.

Wow.

When I was looking to free up some space and wondered why my Steam folder was pushing 400GB, I was shocked to discover that Max Payne 3 is 29.7GB on the disk. Fallout New Vegas Ultimate is 20.3 GB. Rage 21.2GB, Witcher 2 18.5GB, Batman Arkham City 16.5GB. Meanwhile Tomb Raider, which is HUGE and gorgeous is 10.3GB.

Pshh, Terraria is way better looking. 29mb.

Ahh, but that was for posting censored cartoon My Little Pony porn! The one girl mod saw it, so I didn't even get a warning.
Ah, yes, I couldn't remember if it was something like that or tentacle porn....or was it both?!

(I'm also mildly disturbed that you took the time to save that picture.)
Mmmhmmmm, you should be...

Cause I'm just a filthy guy, never cleaning out his dropbox public share

Holy **** I just got CS: GO for $0.14 o.o
Glad some people got this, I saw it just in time for it to change price.

Voted for PayDay: The Heist. Been waiting for it go on sale. Hope it wins.
And your hopes are received!

I bring you... my (second) Survivor Story™.
Since my last character was... incapacitated, I was forced to create a new one for the time being. I named my new tiny mustached man Sokray Blue, and immediately thrust him into the zombie world.

We found ourselves in a rather idyllic location, looking over a small lake amidst a lush forest. The sun was beginning to dip down in the sky, and the entire scene actually was quite peaceful and attractive. My Frenchman tried to take a swim, but alas, civilians of the War Z do not know how to swim. Disheartened, he moved on towards the nearest town, keeping his wits ever about him.

[Survivor Stories: Image 1]

It soon became apparent that this was not a pleasant slice of suburbia, instead a rather large town overrun with our undead friends. Flipping his fleshlight off, Mr. Blue snuck towards the first visible house, sure to avoid any zombies that strayed too close. Once inside, he quickly scrounged up a baseball bat out of one of the bedrooms. He was armed!

Moving into the kitchen, the heartwarming silhouette of a rifle on the wall lifted our spirits. Snatching up the .22, sadly we learned there were only three bullets in it, but beggars cannot be choosers, so we moved on upstairs. After searching through every room, the house was learned to be empty besides the two weapons. "Time to leave." we decided, but someone had other plans.

Suddenly--a balding, rather ugly zombie was all up in Sokray's face. How did he find us? Who knows, but the battle was on. Wielding his baseball bat, our hero smashed the zombie upside the head over, and over, and over... Eventually, the ghoul groaned and flopped to the ground. Feeling accomplished, Sokray set back to leaving the house, but NAY, another zombie! Identical to the last one, the twin zombie brother charged, but was met with a dozen deft swings, showers of low resolution blood, and the same fate as his sibling.

Upon their deaths, the zombies seemed to disappear. Shrugging it off, we headed back downstairs, and lo and behold, the twice deceased siblings were laying in the kitchen, somehow having fallen through the floor. Interesting. Mr. Blue pushed on, deeper into the darkening town, evading zombie patrols with as much brilliant stealth skills as sir Snake himself. The sun was sinking lower and lower, and if we didn't find a place to hole up for the night soon, we would surely be zombie chow.

Upon our way, we came across a playground, littered with water, chips, and even a cricket bat. Sokray was never one for that silly game, but it was considerably cleaner than the blood soaked baseball bat, so he equipped the new weapon. Snacking on his chips, he moved further into town, avoiding confrontation as he moved into the business district. With night falling, visibility was poor, but morale was still high.

Our spirits lifted higher when we came across a small military outpost in the middle of the street, made up of sandbags and a humvee. Hopping over a barrier to explore, and hopefully turn up some ammo or guns, what did we come across? Not one, but two HATS. As Sokray triumphantly adorned himself with his new crimson beret, you could almost smell his manly pits, and frog's legs frying in the pan. Stashing the other hat (a camo fisherman style hat), he looked towards the nearest building. Before he could take another step, however, a zombie popped into view, drooling and likely quite jealous of our hats. Wielding his new cricket bat, Sokray beat the pulp out of the undead fellow, and moved on into the building, which we found to be a bank.

A quick search turned up nothing useful besides a bottle of water inside, but the structure looked to be a well defendable position, with a room over the counter and deep inside, with no separate entrances. The Frenchie kicked back and had a drink and a bite to eat as night fell over the town, and perhaps almost nodded off for a bit, until the familiar groaning, ghastly symphony of death sounded from the lobby.

Holding his cricket bat firmly, Sokray moved carefully back to the counter he had hopped over. We had two visitors, a man and a woman, who wanted direly to eat our hero's brains, but seemed to be rather confused by the counter in front of them. They ran around in circles for a bit, and Sokray was brave enough to move up closer, leaning up against the counter. They charged, but upon reaching the counter again, decided to stand still and look to their left. This continued for a few moments before Mr. Blue got bored and smacked them upside their heads a handful of times over the counter.

[Survivor Stories: Image 2] (Yes, it's really that dark.)

With the fiends dispatched, we moved back to the deepest reaches of the bank and decided to take a break, waiting for sunrise.

What ghoulish adventures await the Frenchman? Tune in next time to find out!
Look what you made me do!

Sweet! Payday actually won the Community Vote. I've been hoping that would go on sale.
I convinced all my friends to vote for it and was pretty positive it still wouldn't win. Happy surprise, except...

DLC discount didn't change, which is all I was after until I fully dedicated myself and the 3 people I bought it for to the game. fuck!

I would, but I haven't bought anything from Steam in like a year, so they won't let me list on the market.
It might be worth buying a cheap game just to get access to the market.

I've got a bunch of vintage items and a few vintage hats. Maybe I can get someone to take them off my hands for Deus Ex or System Shock
You can sell all vintage items in the steam market now, and the market would also be the best place to get an idea of what your items are worth. Most vintage hats are worth around a dollar at least, but the weapons won't be worth anything much unless they're rare.

At least I can say I was busy threatening the free world. ^_~

...

Meme, see below.

It's a meme.

http://knowyourmeme.com/memes/gaben
Next time, I'll throw my sound up - and you can PM me over Steam and make sure I'm awake - so I don't miss a 99% off deal like that again! :p

Or any deal and/or glitch over 75% off that looks like it's too good to me true, for that matter. :p

And, didn't know about the GabeN Meme - thanks for MORE info on the "weight" line. :D

More meanings = good! :D

Yeah, it's a HUGE game.

I think Ashes said she had WOW + All expansions taking up like around 60GB+.
Unless the latest expansion takes up 25 gigs, I think WoW clocks at around 30-35 gigs. Then again I can see why, it has The main world, plus 3 separate expansion worlds. Like what, 3000+ quests, etc. WoW is certainly justified considering how massive it is.

Yay, more repeats. *sigh*

Finally won a CC vote, Woohoo! Hopefully this mean the daily deals are going to be great. Who am I kidding.

Gonna pick up Payday, anyone know if the DLC is worth the other 5 bucks or is the base game enough?
I would like to know what others think on this as well. It's only 50% off, why not 75% like the game itself?

I have WoW + all expansions + some screenshots + a lot of addons and it takes up 26 GB

As someone who is interested in Company of Heroes because of the great reviews and high regard, but not really into RTS games, should I get just the base game or the expansions as well?  Chances are the game goes on the backlog, but when (if) I get to playing it, I don't want to kick myself for not getting the expansions for cheap.

Thoughts?

Thanks!

I've not played myself, but my brother-in-law (who is really big into RTS) games has played Opposing Fronts 100 hours, Tales of Valor 10 hours, and the original 6 hours. I can't say anything about the differences, but he obviously likes OF the best.

That being said, the complete pack at 7.50 is easily the best deal, since it's the same price as just the original and OF together

Really want the COH expansions wished they had a separate bundle just for the 2 expansions.
Ah... the old case of it being cheaper to buy the complete pack or GOTY/ultimate/uber edition than it is to just buy the expansions/DLC/extras that you're missing. :headache:

That's why I usually wait for the complete pack/edition to come out before buying any game that I think (or know) will have DLC or expansions.

This is what comes of posting on CAG at 1:00 in the morning. I hope you got some sleep, Ashes.

I was in talks to discount my conspiratorial ramblings to -85%, but Valve told me that you can't discount something that's already free, and they don't carry me on Steam anyway.

Tell us secrets from the future.
You misunderstood me: I meant that I'm reading each post backwards. It's a skill I've developed over the years because I have vast amounts of free time and am also a giant nerd.

So in some way shape or form I have all of those games. Except for Age of Empires 2 HD. Then again I have Age of Empires 2 Gold on CD.
My understanding is that part of the reason HD exists is because the original game doesn't play well with Win 7 + installs. It was actually one of my few purchases during this sale and I'm looking forward to actually finishing all of the campaigns this go-round. I think I only finished William Wallace with the original game. I used to love setting up comp-stomp skirmishes in this game.

My first experience on WarZ.

Tsel: HOW'S THE GAME
Idiotekque: well
Idiotekque: after finally gettign it to stop screen tearing
Idiotekque: and figuring out that ssao makes it run at 30 fps
Idiotekque: i walked for 10 minutes
Tsel: o_O
Idiotekque: found a small town
Idiotekque: found "time capsules" in a building, which are basically just dark souls messages you can leave on the ground
Idiotekque: walked back outside
Idiotekque: got killed by a dude with a scar assault rifle
Idiotekque: i had no weapons, and you can't punch
Idiotekque: so that was fun
Tsel: LOL WTF
Idiotekque: i said "Wow, this game is cool. I didn't even have a weapon. Thanks for that."
Idiotekque: and he said "sure"

Time to make a new character. My character is "injured" for an hour and I can't play as him.

Oh, and when I died the game crashed. It also kicks me at random intervals and gives some "Punkbuster failed to update" message.
Best. game. ever.

pshhhh... I once pre-ordered Grand Theft Auto San Andreas for the PS2 and paid for taxes AND shipping.

I was buying $60 games before $60 games even existed.
Well, I bought the Star Trek: Judgment Rites numbered LE new for $50 (it came with a VHS copy of "City on the Edge of Forever," one of the best TOS episodes of all time, a pin, and some other things I've long since forgotten. I may or may not still have it. Not long before we got married, my future wife bought me the CE of Baldur's Gate II for the same price as a birthday present. That was an epic birthday present.

Idiotekque definitely beat me with his CE for BL2. I'm not really in a financial position to plunk down $150 on a CE for any game and the missus would kill me if I did. I thought the Witcher 2 CE looked interesting (and was around $120 when it dropped IIRC), but I looked at it and thought, "What the hell would I do with a Geralt head? Hollow it out and wear it at Halloween?!"

I saw it on the sale page! They changed the name of it right? Those sneaky bastards!!
I am constantly forgetting that they changed the name. As Elder Pee said somewhere, this was probably a direct response to the World War Z movie coming out and also a way to fool more people into buying it.

Being a giant empty world has nothing to do with a game either being or not being a hand-holding affair. When you were given a quest in the game you quite literally did not even have to think of where to go or how to even get there because you could follow the maker the game provided you.

I completely agree though that Oblivion's world was horrible, It was empty and consisted of a summer forest, winter forest, autumn forest, and marshy forest. If I wanted to see nearly the exact same landscape with no iconic points I would go outside in real life.

Hand-holding however is the difference between playing say Perfect Dark and Call of Duty. If you haven't played either game I will explain the difference. In Call of Duty there will either be a giant symbol on your screen saying either "go here" or "do this" and if it isn't immediately there then you can stand around for about 10 seconds and it will appear. Perfect Dark on the other hand gave you say 3 objectives and put in the level. It didn't tell you exactly where the objectives were or exactly how to complete them. That was something you have to figure out. And if you couldn't figure it out you were completely screwed unless you had a game guide or the internet because nothing would even give you a hint.

When a game, such as Oblivion, gives you a marker saying "go here and exactly here" you don't have to think. Then when you get to that location, which is lets say a dungeon, you don't even really have to explore it because yet again the marker will tell you exactly where you need to be in the dungeon or where the person you need to kill is.

Hand-holding simply removes the need for the player to actually process the information given to them and understand what needs to be done and how to do it from that information. Hand-holding does the thinking for you and tends to put the game into an on-rails mode.

Well that was more than I planned on typing...
You have a valid point. I suppose I was conflating two different rationales for disliking a game and chucking everything under the heading "RPGs I don't enjoy." Oblivion annoyed me chiefly not because I didn't know what it wanted me to do but because it would give me a mission objective to travel to a city 100 miles away and I would get tossed in jail if I tried to steal a horse and I had nowhere near enough money to actually buy one. That left me the option of walking, which is actually much crappier than RL. At least in reality if I can't afford a car, I can always take a bus. If I want to RP being bored out of my skull and walking from Los Angeles to Denver, hell, there's probably some indie sim for that somewhere on Desura.

I've played a few CoD games but I can't remember any of them. Or maybe I just have backlogged CoD games on the PC. I played a few minutes of the first Black Ops game before I got stuck on the first mission (skiing downhill and shooting people?). I don't know--shooters aren't really my forte, but Black Ops was confusing and frustrating (I died a lot before I gave up on it). I never played any Perfect Dark games because that's a console series and I bought the first console I've ever owned about three years ago (PS3).

I suppose I want a certain degree of hand-holding in my games. I prefer not to have to wander around looking for someone or something I may not be able to find on my own or being forced to consult the internet to figure out virtually everything in a game. I used to play a lot of LOTRO and the older players on the forums complained bitterly about the addition of quest markers and a minimap to the game (at some point before I started playing in 2009). I will never be among the "hardcore" who like having to actively search for objectives and quest NPCs. <shrug> </shrug> To each his own, I suppose.

I've not played myself, but my brother-in-law (who is really big into RTS) games has played Opposing Fronts 100 hours, Tales of Valor 10 hours, and the original 6 hours. I can't say anything about the differences, but he obviously likes OF the best.
I have only played the original and Opposing Fronts and simply from a campaign perspective I found that I enjoyed OF a lot more. Not that the original was bad, but just that the expansion was that much better.

However, I have never played either online as I only really like playing Blizzard RTSs online for the custom games. I'm not a fan of doing skirmishes against random people on the internet.
