Free Stuff - Needs Updating

There are quite a few free and free2play games and mods on steam. You can find a full list here. Note that free games are not permanently attached to your Steam account like actual purchases would be. You'll need to manually download a game again from the website if you uninstall it.

As far as I know, they never have. Regular daily deals have always ran for exactly 24 hours, am I wrong?

Yeah, you're right. They used to be 36. Never paid that close attention.

I've played a metric TON of Galaxy on Fire, Galaxy on Fire 2 *all the expansions* on the iPAD.

I dig'm.  Very much Freelancer (hell almost the same story).  Quite a bit of ferrying involved back and forth.  Once you get the ability to jump past systems it gets very boring (IMO).

The PC version was a rather eh port.  All the things I LIKED about the iOS version was kinda lost in translation.

Hell I signed up for the CB for their new iOS but haven't heard a peep since.

Didn't buy much this sale:

Dungeons of Dredmor CotW    0.74 USD
Overlord Complete Pack  4.99 USD
Puzzle Quest 2      2.49 USD
Strike Suit Infinity      1.74 USD
Blocks That Matter      1.24 USD
Botanicula           2.49 USD

Total:    13.69 USD

SSI I purchased to go along with SSZ (from the Amazon CAG2 bundle) and I have a weakness for space shooters.  Someday Freelancer will get a sequel.

Love the art style and general goofiness of Botanicula.  ROFL at the crying chestnut - so random.

While the thread is still young, is it possible to drop the cards from it?

Unless they're tied to another seasonal sale, wouldn't they fall under the type of thing that the "Free Forums" usually cover? IE Promo items you receive for free, can collect and redeem or sell?

Except that they are Steam cards. That and even if we drop mention from it in the OP, that would just mean more "What are Steam Cards?" type questions. I think a mention in the OP and links to relevant threads should be fine.

GS for 80% off looks tempting, but the game screams bundle material. This one will be hard to hold off on. Especially since they put in a easy mode.

No issue with it being in the OP with links to the proper threads, much like the Steam Group Buys mention. It just seems putting it in the title is asking for discussion and weekly updates as new games get cards.

It REALLY was a DLC sale for me this year. Most everything was bought with Steam wallet and Amazon credit, but there's some PayPal mixed in there since I had converted a lot of Steam wallet into PayPal prior to the sale.

I also crafted these badges, but fuck if I know what I spent on them:

Saints Row 3 x2 (Lieutenant)
Chivalry x5 (Lord)
Organ Trail x1 (Roadkill)
They Bleed Pixels x3 (Red Handed)
Awesomenauts x1 (Silver)
Red Orchestra 2 x1 (Raw Recruit)
Steam Summer Getaway x1 (Steam Sightseer)

I did a lot of flipping around, buying and selling cards, foils, and emotes, as well as selling most backgrounds, emotes, and all Summer cards I got from crafting, so very little was put out towards all these badges. I came across a couple rare backgrounds/emotes during all the crafting too, so they often paid for the badges.

Got to level 20, and that's pretty much all I wanted out of the Summer Sale (cheaper card prices = cheaper badges = cheaper way to level 20).

In a way though, Steam Cards are closely tied into Steam sales. If for no other reason than that you can use them to offset the cost of the game.

FWIW, Giana Sisters cards have a decent value, especially in today's market. After I get my 4th and final drop, I should make around $1.20.

Giana Sisters -80%?  Finally, the Summer Sale has started!

Seriously, it's a great platformer.  Some of the most fun I've had in years. I'm glad I picked it up when Asheskitty recommended it. 100%ing is hard, but just playing through isn't.  Speaking of which, I should probably finally finish it...

Whoa, that's an unexpectedly good deal on Giana Sisters. I may actually pick the game up this time.
A new Humble Bundle should be launching soon, and I have a strong feeling that this will be in there.

I know Ninja needed someone to takeover for the OP, but once Wiki comes back there should be no need for any new threads anymore. I think the only reason we ever did it before was because mod-deleted posts started messing up the page count after a while, but that is no longer the case.

That said, appreciate it OP! Hopefully Wiki comes back soon so one person doesn't have to carry the load. Ninja Squirrel did a hell of a job during the summer sale.
He did an awesome job!!!!!!!

As far as I know, they never have. Regular daily deals have always ran for exactly 24 hours, am I wrong?
No, you are right this time. :bouncy:

Skimmed through 6 pages of the old thread before realizing it was locked. With 80% on Giana, I wouldn't be surprised if it was in the HiB and using this daily to get a few more sales before that. An HiB should be coming up, it's been about a month or so since the last one ended.

It does strike me as odd that Giana Sisters was $3.74 during the sale, but $2.99 immediately after it.

I want to play the game, but I'm willing to gamble and wait until the next HiB.

I started playing UnEpic yesterday, and I just had to mention how great it is. I normally wait till I beat a game before I make any kind of review for it, but damn is this game good. Its a metroidvania-style game with potion crafting, character stat leveling, spellcasting (havent got up to this yet), environmental traps, and diablo-like loot-drops (white, blue, yellow rarity items). The dialogue is very comical and has many references to other common games and movies, like lord of the rings and warcraft 3.

right in the beginning of the game, your character gets possessed by a wraith, but the possession fails, leaving the wraith to just bug you for the rest of the game as an alternate conscience. this leads to plenty of good banter between the wraith and your character. There are save points in the game, just like castlevania games. So, if you die, you will load back to your last save. There are also 4 levels of difficulty. There is multiplayer too, which I havent tried yet. Since the game is Steam Early Access, they are still working on improving the mp. the single player is 100% finished. Also, it has achieves. no cards tho.
TLDR: UNEPIC IS A GREAT GAME!

Maaann, seems like I've owned it for yearss.

Interesting that they added MP. I hope there's some gamepad support now (or soon) and I think that's a reasonable expectation considering how much it panders to retrophiles.

Not sure if this was posted in the old thread already, but Bundlestars just came out with Bundle #10 which offers 10 Steam keys for ~$5, including Afterfall Insanity, which several of us (myself included) were looking at picking up in the Steam sale. Much better deal here!

http://www.bundlestars.com/

Afterfall Insanity

Galaxy on Fire 2 HD

Air Conflicts: Pacific Carriers

The Journey Down: Chapter 1

Cargo Commander

Disciples 3: Renaissance

Kung Fu Strike: The Warrior's Rise

Dungeons: The Dark Lord

Zeno Clash

Weird Worlds: Return to Infinite Space

Cargo, Kung Fu, Dungeons, and The Journey Down have all been bundled before, but this is a good chance to pick them up if you missed them. Afterfall and Galaxy have been in Amazon indie bundles, most of which sold out after a day or so. $5 for all these is a good deal, methinks.
I've scoffed at bundlestarsdotcom in the past but I'm better now because, evidently, my scoff is gone. Good job, good effort.

I have the ones I want but I'ma pay attention now and maybe money later.

Those games aren't particularly amazing but it's certainly a good value.
whirr

$0.50 each for Zeno Clash, Weird Worlds and Kung Fu Strike should be causing new CAGs to feel like a freakin' dog without a heat warning.

I know a certain island girl who just bought Kung Fu Strike for $2.50:

Idiot's sister ^^

Someone said they bought Zeno Clash during the sale.

Summer card sales seem to be picking up.  Each one that ends up selling I feel like I should have relisted higher, but with my luck I'd price them higher and the market would re-crash.

Yay@ New thread and didn't take me 45 mins to catch up! woot!

Now, time to sell all the extra cards I couldn't be bothered to sell during the sale

Well you should stop watching the game idle for 4 hours.

My entire Summer Sale being funded nearly entirely by Steam cards tips its hat to you and says "Good day, sir."

I, for one, am a bird.

I paid for everything i wanted too, but that was with card $ from before the great market crash of july 2013

the bottom completely fell out if you haven't noticed. foils are barely worth .25. i'm good on that.

What foils are only worth $0.25? o_0

I made $20+ on foils over the Summer Sale (both my own, and buying and selling). If you think foils are pointless, you simply ain't doing it right. I held onto my Killing Floor foil, though. Perhaps it'll go up from the $1 or so that it's worth.

Besides, card prices should ebb back up with the Summer Sale over. Giana Sisters cards already show that happening.

my gratuitous space battles foil sat on the shelf for days at 32 cents, lol. my sleeping dogs one got me like 1.20.

if people have the patience to sit there and install/ idle games all the time for a couple of bucks then more power to ya, i barely have time to play the games i buy as it is.

Well... GSB is the cheapest card set out there iirc, and Sleeping Dogs was bitten by the "OMGPOPULAR" Summer Sale bug, in which it hit #1 on the best sellers list and its cards hit a remarkable low. You should have just held onto them, though, since the Summer Sale killed card values. I can see things going up a bit over the course of the next couple weeks. Still, it's always the unpopular, relatively expensive games that are gonna bring higher card values. I got Drunken Robot Pornography for $4ish, and I made almost $8 on the cards.

I typically just idled two games at a time (one on Steam, one on SAM) while I browsed the forums and went about my normal day anyways, so I dunno.

Gamersgate has a couple of the same deals as the final 2 days of the Staem Sale, so if you are WAY late to the party and want Chivalry, Skyrim Legendary, or Tomb Raider, you are in luck:

http://www.gamersgate.com/
I bought Tomb Raider from Gamersgate because of fallout from their bethesda bundle at the start of the year. They refunded my paypal money from a bundle they couldn't fulfill in blue coins, which have just been sitting around. Also, they had a 'compensation discount' I was unaware of that got the price down to $10.

And they sold out of keys for Tomb Raider about an hour into their sale. :wall:

They claim they'll have more in a few days.

Is that just a hunch on a new HIB or... are there alien crop circles to verify it!?
It's a hunch but the way it keeps going on sale for cheaper and cheaper lends me to believe that it will be in the next HIB

Plus, I got my first foil finally!!!!!!!!

Woohoo

With a 3 TB hdd, I don't have to worry about reinstalling any games and like idiot said, you can idle a couple games while doing other things like surfing the forums or sleeping.

I have 4 of 'em and I wouldn't mind copping another 3-4 after looking more closely.

that shit is for the birds, idling a game for 4 hours to get 46 cents in credit is not a fun thing to do
Anytime I don't feel like playing a game and I want to be on my PC

....

I boot a game up that supports Steam Cards;

Alt-Tab to minimize that game so I can do something else (like get on these forums and get posting);

and just do whatever for a period of time, as it tries to farm some cards.

When I feel the need to play a game or I've generated all of my card-drops, I just switch back and boot out of the card-supporting game.

{shoulder shrug}

Card idling is a pretty passive thing for me so it really doesn't cost much.

My comp is on most of the day so it's just install, idle, and do my work.  Then check every few hours to see if I got any cards.

To me, same thing.

I began using {Shoulder shrug} b/c some thought my basic {shrug} was an {eyebrow shrug}.

I sometimes now use {Eyebrow shrug}, since people thought I was doing {Eyebrow shrugs} - and b/c it adds more movements and personality to my writing/typing assortment.

Agreed. Cards just seem to be way more hassle than they're worth. If I wanted to make pennies for idling around, I could go shake down little kids for their lunch money. I'd probably end up richer and feel just slightly less ashamed of myself.
