I have nothing against other people's choices, I'll just be reminded whenever I get an email from Bundlestars or see someone post a new bundle. I'll see plenty of games I never imagined to exist, and therefore don't consider buying them. I want to know why others do so, as maybe I'm missing out on something, or I don't have the steam hoarding disorder to the same degree as others.

I buy cards. I don't buy foils, but I do collect the sets. It's just something about the collecting aspect that I enjoy.

I tend to sell cards that are over and above average prices (40p to complete a set is usually my upper limit, I'll sell if it gets above that level).

For the few pennies I would've made from selling cards, I could've had a handful of games by now. But pennies aren't that tight so I consider this to be an affordable luxury. Collecting cards comes with backgrounds and emoticons, which is another thing I like to hoard.

Do I need all eight Beat Hazard emoticons? No.
Do I ever use all eight Beat Hazard emoticons? No.
Did I collect them anyways? Yes.

Most emoticons are, admittedly, rubbish. But for every rubbish set there's a :spacepony: which makes it all worthwhile.

Oh, and see that level 48 on my Steam profile? It means I'm better than you.

Really thinking about biting on that XCOM deal. What do you guys think of it? I have been holding out for a deal for EU with some DLC. I've never played any of the older games. Grrrrrr decisions decisions.

I tried to play the first ever XCOM recently and it really hasn't aged very well. Your fond memories of it are best left as just that - memories.

If you've never played it, just accept that it was very good at the time (if brutally hard). The new version XCOM EU is excellent and modernises it brilliantly.

LOL. Old Xcom micromanagement was insane, but I loved that. I played Apocalypse some years ago and was still very fun.
 
Everyone's thoughts on SW:TFU?   I heard it is really awesome at first, but that you basically end up using a few powers over and over and over.

I really enjoyed the first one. Perhaps a little on the short side, but for an action game I found the story intriguing. It does get a little button mashy and the combat gets repetitive (as I find with most action games), but it's still fun. It's not as deep as other Star Wars titles, but I never thought that it was meant to be, so I tend to think higher of it than some other fans of the universe.

Edit: Also, I'd say you comment is actually more appropriate for the second in the series where most of the powers are unlocked fairly early. Once you get your force push leveled, there's almost no reason to use anything else.

Anybody else underwhelmed by the Amazon sale? I didn't see any must-buys for me.  Some of the prices aren't the lowest they've been, but the bigger issue for me is Amazon is just not getting enough new games.  It's always the same stuff on sale, and with my library padded with Humble Bundles and my Steam wallet full of card money I have very little incentive to buy anything from them.  It's gotten to the point where even the $5 future purchase credit is no longer much incentive for me, as I think I'd have trouble finding things to spend it on.  It's too bad, as my wishlist has gotten quite large over the past few weeks and I'd welcome more competition from different retailers.

I could have posted this in the Amazon thread, but I figured this thread is the home of the super hoarder CAGs more so than that one.  People are getting excited about $15 Lego bundles over there.

Such is the life of a post Humble THQ/Deep Silver/Origin/WB CAG. The sales are still fairly decent for all except probably the regulars here.

The first two Max Payne games are very well written third person shooters. I have them on disc, and they're very, very entertaining. The story on both is awesome.

The third... wasn't made by the original devs so I've heard that it's not as good. Plus, Rockstar Social Club. Bleh.

Yep. IMO the only thing the third has in common with the first two games is a bullet time abusing protagonist.

Don't get me wrong, MP3 is a competent TPS (aside from my own personal issues with it), it just should really be judged separately from the first two. Get one and two for the story, unique cut scene 'cinematics' and innovative (at the time) gameplay; get three for the action.

Star Trek at $5 is probably as good as it's likely to get. Other than that, yeah, the indie stuff's not too impressive, but there are a few other things I'd get if I had oodles of extra dough like HOMM VI Complete at $10.

 
I think MP3 is awesome. I played MP1 & 2 on their launch time and loved both. Then, when 3 was announced, I had my doubts. Bought it sometime ago ($5) and I can really say is a must have. I even liked the story. Granted is not as dark and noire like the first two, but has the same depressive touch. It's the same max, but older. I loved max phrases, the writers did a great job

But that is my opinion. MP3 is on pair with MP1 & MP2. I enjoyed all on a different way, and all share the same experience: couldn't stop until finished

Now I want AoE III on Steam just for cardz and that's wrong. I put 40-50 odd hours into these when I bought them at retail already! Stupid Steam!
 
I got AoE III from Microsoft for 10 cents back 2011 or whichever year it was when they had that crazy PC sale. Where's my Steam code, MS? I want to profit after one non-foil card.

I ended up getting lucky with the AoE III cards. Manged to sell two of the cards for $0.70 cents and one card for $1.60 when they were first added. You catch it at the right time you can sell cards for pretty high still.

Well there's nothing mind blowing, but when you consider stuff like Walking Dead 400 Days for $1.25 (cheapest it will likely be) and then you get $5 credit for January that might potentially score you a free game then it's hard to complain.

Tropico 4 Voodoo DLC for $1.25 is another potentially sweet deal.

Actually all the Tropico 4 DLC might be ripe for credit mining.

I think that Max Payne 3 managed to stay true to its main character even though he was in a completely different scenario. Gameplay was fun too. Also, being from Brazil, I was glad that the game actually managed to use proper voice actors and character names to show the country. Most of the time, game developers just assume we all speak Spanish.

Ooh, good catch. I've been tempted to get that the last time Amazon had it at that price, but figured I'd wait to use my Steambux. But with a $5 credit, that is a very good deal.

 
The Amazon sale has some great deals. Will totally grab 400 Days. I REALLY wish I could grab just a non-bundled copy of XCOM:EU or Max Payne 3 though. I won't ever play the old XCOM's nor the MP3 multiplayer.

Yeah. I kinda feel the same way. Of course, this is after two years of utterly insane Amazon holiday/post-holiday sales in which we all snapped up quite a few rock-bottom-priced (and free!) games.

Fox has got it right... grab some of that cheap DLC and snag a few credits in hopes for something amazing in January. It got tough for me to spend all my credit last January, but I'll remain hopeful for the next.

Hmmmm, so how is Arma II on Steam?  I have it on Amazon with Combined Ops or whatever, but seems like the 80% off pricing on the complete packs might be the cheapest to get the DLC.  Any issues with running DayZ on Steam?
