New Thread:

This thread has been replaced by TSDT v11

Daily Deal:
Please check the Steam homepage.

Weeklong Deals:
Steam usually has week-long deals that change on Mondays at 6PM UTC. They mostly feature indie games, and may not run every week.

Sale summary lists:

Key:
⤷ indicates DLC, — specifies part of a pack, + shows alternative versions, ⚠ highlights things worth knowing, ♫ is obvious, and ... denotes a multi-pack.

Holiday Sale 2013 | 19/12/13 through 3/1/14:
Days 1-3, 4-6, 7-9, 10-12, 13-14.

Spring/Autumn Sale 2013 | 27/11/13 through 3/12/13:
All days.

Steam deals on other stores: (Related threads on CAG.)

Indie* bundle threads: (*Not always indie, nor always a bundle.)

Free stuff:
There are quite a few free games (mostly Free to Play) and mods available via the Steam platform, a comprehensive list of which can be found in this thread on the SPUF.
(NOTE: free games are not permanently attached to your Steam account like actual purchases would be. You'll need to manually download a game again from the website if you uninstall it.)

Can't believe no one has posted this yet. These people disgust me.

64 games???!!!! You call THAT a backlog??? Get that fuck ing fuck out of here...come back when you have 250 minimum, all bought within the last two months.
lol i love going to gaming sites and seeing people "OHHHHHH MY GOOOODDDD I have THIRTY EIGHT games in my backlog AND a steam sale is coming up...WHAT AM I GOING TO DOOOO?"

shut up fool

We CAG's are WAY beyond repair here w/ backlogs.

We'll never catch-up.

And we like it that way, too.

i think all us regulars here have to admit that we've become those people that go to a remote corner of the internet where our fetish is accepted

i'm okay with it

I used to think "I have a chance, it's just this initial burst after getting a gaming computer...I had a whole lot of games to buy"

Nope.
We need something to always look forward to.

That backlog gives us plenty of options.

More than we'll ever WANT and NEED.

We Backlog games in excess.

Valve founder Gabe Newell said he will answer questions on Reddit if The Heart of Racing charity reaches $500,000 for the Seattle Children's Hospital.

ohhhhh.gif

Then I don't buy your game. Ever. If you hadn't noticed buddy, the game market is huge with competition.
Yeah, I agree here.

The other thing that guy is wrong about is in his comparison to digital versus physical goods. He says that it makes sense to discount physical game copies sitting on shelves because they need more room, whereas digital games last forever.

While that's true, the thing he is forgetting is that digital games last forever! And they are all still sitting there on that same virtual shelf competing for attention. Imagine walking into a retail store and viewing a PC Games section filled with 3500 games. How are you going to stand out? That's right. Sales.

It's all about backlogs on top of backlogs - and keeping it going.

Steam backlog on top of Retail backlog on top of GOG backlog on top of Origin backlog on top of Capsuie backlog on top of Battle.Net backlog on top of G4WL backlog on top of everything else - and I ain't even warmed-up yet.
drm free back log too

I hinted at this in the IR thread.. but I may as well post it here to make it official..

I think Ride'em Low might be the worst racing game ever. I can't win the first or second race. I asked indef to test it as well, and he can't win them either. The AI is designed to cheat.. FARRRR too earlier in the game. Oh, and the game doesn't support controllers.

EDIT: indef finally won a race, lol

y would u waste ur money for

They'll need to retain some method of keeping people from dumping shoddy products onto Steam or else people will use Valve's servers solely as a distribution service rather than as a store. I could put up my mediocre RPG Maker executable, request Steam keys to give out to my friends, and never bother trying to promote or sell it through Steam itself.
awesome, should be easier to get my new games White Space and Aj Lee's Ass Spanking Simulator onto Steam. The first DLC for ALASS will be a tebowdragon skin. (copied from his facebook)

i'm okay with it
but hoarding porn had more of a stigmata, now i hoard games

I was fine til i came here

I blame all you enablers
that's why I tell all new cags to get the hell out of here before its too late.

i'm not just being an asshole, but trying to save them before they plunge into the backlog abyss

spoder got no skilz

But yeah,Ride 'em Low is bad.  Real real really really bad.

edit:  The car customization is okay, and the hydraulics stuff is kinda neat.  The actual racing part is abysmal though.

Long ago, in the town of Oolacile, a swarming abyss swallowed up the town. Nobody is sure where it came from, although there are rumors a powerful sorcerer, Gaben, cast a curse of Eternal Backlog upon the forsaken village. For decades, Oolacile waited for a hero to come and clear the backlog. Many tried, but all failed...

Fuuuu- surely this means they're gonna start charging sales tax in Canada, a whopping 13%. A large part of why PC gaming has been so much cheaper for me than console was is due to skipping sales tax.

Yeah, that's what I was thinking: sales tax, an unfavourable exchange rate, and even more regional price gouging. I'll be amazed if this doesn't turn out to be a negative change.

I don't know if it's been posted yet..

More info about the Steam controller (and some of the changes being made to it):

The retail controller will no longer have a touchscreen. It'll have DPAD and ABXY buttons instead for backwards compatiblity
The retail controller will use AA batteries, this means the user can also use rechargable batteries
Biometrics are important, but the hands are not the best place to capture them
Core implementation of Steam Controller API is already available in the current Steamworks SDK
The Steam Controller API supports up to 16 controllers at once
Valve is keeping VR in mind while developing the controller

More changes to the controller are coming, they have just started processing beta feedback
Here's an unconfirmed concept for the new prototype:

Better or worse than Ocean Street Racing?

And who the fuck are these people who make "racing" games who clearly aren't racing fans?

Valve discovers that a touchpad is no substitute for A-B-X-Y buttons... I (and millions of others) could have told them that from the get-go.
