I don't care about either company.

Point we're trying to make is you can't say that the "only" issues people ever have are with defective mice, and then say the build quality is great. If the build quality was truly great, then they wouldn't have so many issues.

From most of the Amazon reviews, they send out as many duds, if not more than any other company, so you can't really make an argument that their build quality is good.

What you're saying is if/when you get a good mouse then it's great. Which may be true, but the same thing could be said about anything. When I got a good/working PS2 it was great. The blu disc/laser/shitty issues I ran into prior to that told me that I was lucky, not that Sony was making great machines.
Build quality is good, as in the materials, feel, performance, etc. The mouse does not feel cheap in the slightest; every bit of it lives up to the price I paid for it. Every company sends out duds, so that doesn't really change much for me. We're just interpreting "build quality" in different ways, but even then, I could just as easily make an argument that the build quality on Logitech products isn't great, because of the issues I've had with them.

But if build quality just applies to defects and nothing else, I see what you're saying. That said, the glue had zero to do with the build quality. That's all I was saying to spoder.

Like I already explained (multiple times, in fact), that issue had very little to do with the build quality. If another company is using that type of glue, you can bet they're using exactly the same glue. Razer didn't sit down and say "Know what? Let's use low quality glue.", it just got a little damp and not-so-sticky faster because of where I live (and if it allows me to get a brand new mouse once a year, I actually hit the jackpot there, oddly enough).

If you're gonna hate on something, you should use it yourself to come to a conclusion. I've used Logitech controllers and mice, and for the reasons I've stated a couple times, I really don't like them and probably won't be buying any more. You used a keyboard that had some key resistance issues (that you probably could have exchanged and solved the problem, Razer support is pretty damn good). The one Razer issue that is well known is that sometimes you'll get something, and it'll have a defect. That happens with many companies, and it probably does happen more often with Razer.

Like the top negative comment on Amazon says (1-star rating) "When it works, this is an awesome mouse". That can totally steer people away from liking Razer, and that's totally valid. Personally, I haven't run into many issues, and the pros outweigh the cons for me (and I don't mind having to exchange something if the product is worth it). Once again, preference plays a large role.

I'm not trying to hate Razer, or the Mamba.. I like my Razer Tarantula and while it's not the greatest keyboard ever, I appreciate how long its lasted me. What I said is based on you having to RMA your mouse cuz of glue wearing off. I just fail to see how humidity can screw up a mouse with supposedly good build quality. Humidity is a factor, but probably not the cause. Most people would say that's an issue with build quality, not just the humidity. Oh, and why would I hate Razer if I'm still using a Razer keyboard lol.

You're right, I could've RMA'd my keyboard.. but I'd have a decent chance of having the same issue, it was a somewhat common defect and I wasn't gonna stress out too much over an $18 keyboard. It's not bad enough that I can't live with it, and from what I've heard their RMA process was crap back then. I think they've gotten a bit better over the years, but there were a lot of bad reports about their RMA process.

Humidity + Always wet, always sticky glue = Glue getting damp quicker (quicker being over a year later) = Glue getting slightly less sticky. Once again, didn't really go bad, but it made the rubber siding shift in place sometimes. I could push it back into place in two seconds and it would stay put for another couple days. It was an extremely minor issue, but it bothered me slightly, and Razer told me they'd send me a brand new mouse. Easy choice there.

But humidity is "probably" not the cause, because you're an expert about these things, since you don't live in hot sticky Hawaii, don't have the product in question, etc, so pardon me. :whistle2: It's easy to mistake the insatiable desire to argue with hating.

Dunno about the RMA back then, in any case. It was quick and easy for me, got the replacement within a week or two from the date I returned mine.

I lived in Houston for  few years.  Not as humid as Hawaii, but still pretty humid and hot.  Stored a ton of my shit in non-AC garage and never had anything fall apart or melt or any of that shit.  Rubber, plastic, glue or otherwise.

I bought a Cooler Master lapdesk for my laptop here in Seattle and the bottom rubber grip bar came off like instantly.  Sent it back and got a replacement and it did the same thing so I just super glued the sucker back myself and said fuck it.

The wire to the USB connector to power the fan fuck ed up a few months after it was out of warranty so I wouldn't recommend it.

But ummm, when it worked it did work really well.

What are we talking about again?

Not to step into the crossfire, but I had the exact same thing happen to one (out of four) of the rubber feet on my Logitech M570 trackball. While humidity is a factor, it typically is caused by either the glue not having the proper ratio of hardener mixed in with it and/or improper curing process.

I think we were talking about not having AC in Hawaii.

LA Smog is hard on rubber, even bicycle tires.

I did not like the humidity in Houston... it kinda made me wish I was in Florida. Desert > Swamp.

I got a Razer Naga back when I was playing WoW, and it was awesome for raiding and arena. Now it is awesome for snagging price glitches and opening links in new tabs. Haven't played WoW for a few years, so the mouse must be... like 4 years old? I mostly got it because I had a couple of Logitechs die on me.

Also, now that I have discovered how easy it is to mod Magic 2014, I have gone totally ga-ga over it (again, since I got 100% in the game before even modding it). You can add a bunch of cards and then make your own decks super easily. The lack of the was my only major complaint about the game before.

Start here if you are interested:

http://www.slightlymagic.net/wiki/Duels_of_the_Planeswalkers_2014#PC_Mods

Start with just the Signature check disabling (which also makes the game boot WAY faster), and the deck builder or a deck pack. My favorite deck packs are:

http://www.slightlymagic.net/forum/viewtopic.php?f=109&t=11005

If you have played Magic in the past and wanted more ability to make your own decks, you should get it. If you have never played Magic, this series is a great way to learn (and way cheaper than starting a real collection -- blergh). Wait for a sale, though SPLUH!

I remember when the Naga was first released (and I was playing WoW) and years later a segment of raiders still raved about it. It always struck me as interesting but I couldn't bring myself to pay ~$100 for a mouse. Paying that much I expect tank-like build quality, like the big old Kensington trackballs. There's some Logitech variant with an analog stick on a moving numpad that has looked interesting to me (since I'll play games like borderland with a the controller my left paw for analog movement and the mouse in my right for better aiming.)

...hmm... I could hack a bunch of microswitches on to a USB-numpad...

I just wish there was a way to implement the analog functionality of the G13's joystick into typical (FPS, TPS, etc.) games.

Nod. IIRC when I looked into it, support wasn't too good. I'd be better off trying to mount a keyboard an controller together (though a few games are either-or when it comes to controller or KBM input.

This just sounds hilarious to me.

You ever consider just getting this:

Yeah, I've read about people getting the joystick to work using emulators. However, most of those successes have the issue of also losing mouse input. I don't blame Logitech, as it's more a game/coding issue I'd imagine. It'd just be so nice to have variable PC and camera movement.

I used to snicker at those until I started doing the same thing myself, naturally... by playing with controller and reaching for the mouse for more precision shooting....
I don't have one of those.

Though, when doing GTA-like games - I use KB/mouse when shooting and aiming while on-foot; and switch to controller when driving.

I usually use Lysol wipes, but yeah, that's pretty much all you can do. Thankfully I hardly touch my PS2 these days; I just play the games on the PC with an Xbox 360 controller.
I think that's the problem. I know when I use isopropyl alcohol to clean some things with rubber, they end up sticky. Lysol contains alcohol as well, which might be why your controllers end up sticky. Try just soapy water next time. Obviously, not so much that it shorts the circuits.

I just use a controller because I'm just not that good at shooters for it to really matter.  In fact, I think my little brother can murder me easily in deathmatch with him using a controller and me using a KB/M.

I'll try that. They got sticky and gross before the Lysol, but I doubt it helped.

The Infinite Monkey Theorem states ... "that if an infinite number of monkeys were left to bang on an infinite number of typewriters, sooner or later they would accidentally reproduce the complete works of William Shakespeare (or even just one of his sonnets)."

This is what you get when one monkey bangs on a computer keyboard...

Hey hey hey. Let's not insult the monkeys.

I thought Shakespeare wrote that though?

Bookmarked for later reading. I got out of it that I might want to buy a tv with wireless built in, but comparing the confusing options after that gave me a headache. I'm wondering it there is a reasonable wireless solution that is reliable, hi-res, and won't cost $200.

I use an hdmi->ethernet adapter. It converts the hdmi lines to ethernet lines, so its not actually using any packetizing or anything just the physical ethernet wires. Goes to the reverse adapter on the other end.

I have mine going with a 100ft ethernet run and it works fine, could use a shorter one though. Ive used this setup for 5-6 years now, first to run my sat box video from living room to bedroom in an apartment. Now I use it run from my pc in a loft area down to the family room in the area below the loft. My only suggestion would be to get a powered one as it can definitely help on long runs

of course its no wireless, but it is 100x cheaper than a wireless setup and probably more reliable to boot
Well my idea is to avoid wires. Otherwise I could just use the 25-ft HDMI cable I already have. Thanks for the input, though, I didn't know HDMI to ethernet existed.

Your TV doesn't have USB? I think they mentioned that as option.

This article is a little outdated, but also something to consider:

http://www.pcworld.com/article/256058/stream_media_from_your_pc_to_your_roku_box.html

Some sort of small media streaming box may be cheaper than buying a smart TV.

I don't have a tv yet. Have to buy a new one. I'm sure it'll have usb even if it doesn't have wireless. My gf has a Roku, so I guess Plex may be the best option. Not sure from my preliminary reading how that works with Steam, though. I'll figure it out.

I'm tired of mice talk. Let's start something new. My roommate is moving out in a week, girlfriend is moving in, and I'm redoing the layout of my apartment. Want to finally get a nice TV and use it for Big Picture. However, it'll be in the living room, and the PC will probably stay in the bedroom. Anybody have suggestions on the best way to route the picture to the TV? I'd rather not use a long HDMI cable, but wireless HDMI is expensive and looks to be iffy. I remember there were a couple of posts about this some months back, but I doubt I could find them now. Thoughts?
Have you thought about trying Steam In-Home Streaming?

Hmmm, reading up on it, it seems it is impossible.

Plex is good for video, but doesn't seem to work on games. Seems only way would be wireless HDMI or direct connect to TV. Anything wirelessly seems to lead to way to much delay to make anything playable

Vast majority of modern TVs have wireless

Id look into joining the panasonic plasma master race before its too late
