The Steam discussion topic! Joy and happiness, right here, folks.

2010 client and website design is live now.

Also, here's a fun "coming soon" update. Blacklight: Tango Down, the rather fantastic-looking $15 downloadable multiplayer FPS coming this summer (seriously, check the gameplay vids, it looks badass for $15) will be coming to Steam.

Don't cut my head off if I'm wrong, but I'm reasonably sure that it will be Steamworks-integrated (join games with Steam friends, etc). What makes this a fun reveal, is that apparently, the developer wants to keep the fact that it uses Steam a secret for now, so, consider this to be me spoiling their surprise.

Game looks "meh". The video really showed me nothing other than the guy playing it is an idiot that does nothing but run back and forth between two locations.

Well, blame IGN for that. They have a knack for making games look boring, because seriously, the IGN writers and playtesters are absolutely horrible at most games.

Shiiit. That rockstar pack is pretty cheap and would be a slam dunk if GTA IV/Episodes didn't run so badly on my PC. I think I'll pick up SA for (hopefully) $2.50.

Wow @ the Rockstar deal. I'm sooo ridiculously tempted to pick it up. The fact that Episodes from Liberty City is included is nuts.

My thoughts exactly. Even already owning both Max Payne's and GTA IV, the fact Episodes was included and other games I don't have, totally worth it.

GTA 4 was a deal but it is dead now, I snagged it near the end, was 75% off.

Another week long deal is X3 Gold, for $14.99, good games so I figured I'd add them to the Steam library at that price :D

So, I broke down and just bought Splinter Cell on Steam. Should be done downloading in about an hour if anyone here has it and wants to play some multiplayer.

Episodes from Liberty City is on sale for $22.50 (25% off) for like 3 more hours.

If anyone's interested in Fortix, the awesome Qix clone, it's been updated recently. They fixed all of my major complaints (if you check the forum, they addressed me personally! :D ) and the game is really shaping up. They still need to add controller support, but it plays fine on a keyboard. Fortix is still on sale for $4 if you're interested.

Alright, after seeing the price cut on Episodes form Liberty City I'm not upset I got the complete pack. The complete pack would've been an even better deal for me if I didn't already have GTA IV and both Max Payne's but totally cool with it. I've actually been enjoying some Bully.

I thought I'd just put up a little public service announcement, if you're thinking of buying Lead and Gold just don't. The userbase is already dry (0 players online at the time of this posting) and the devs promised dedicated servers about 3-4 weeks ago. I liked the game a lot but it looks dead.

In happier news, Future Mark's Shattered Horizon is set to get a new free update of weapons and 'nades on May 5th with a likely sale to follow. If you haven't gotten this game yet I can't recommend it enough. Kind a small community but there's always a couple of servers up. More info on the DLC here.

Yup. I could see the writing on the wall when the community at launch was only like 25 people. What sucks is it probably would've gotten slightly better with the release of dedicated servers, but it appears the developer just doesn't give a shit anymore.

Shoot. That's really too bad because it really looked like a lot of fun. Perhaps down the line they'll have a free weekend or $5 sale on it when they release the dedicated servers to get people back into it. We'll see I guess.

Woops. I bought the GW pack before reading that about Newegg.

Oddly, I wanted to have them "on" Steam, though. I don't know why but I like going through the front end and having it log how many hours I play and all that weird stuff.

I feel the same way. I love how it keeps tracks of stats like that. Especially the detailed Left 4 Dead 2 ones.

The new TF2 update with the increased item rate seems to be working well. I logged about 3 hours over the past 2 days and got 2 items already :D.

Is Dirt 2 controller-enabled? Steam doesn't say so, but you'd think...
Any opinions on which to get between Dirt 2 and Grid?

Dirt 2 works natively with a 360 controller. I believe Grid does as well. If you're into customization, grab GRID as it's much deeper in that sense. Both are great though.

If there was ever a reason I needed a racing wheel, this has added much more to it. I already have Burnout, Trackmania and FUEL. Is DiRT 2 much better than the original (i.e. worth the 7.50?)

Also, how do people feel about GRID? I figure I'm only going to grab one (Leaning towards DiRT original)

GRID is the shit.

Demos of both Dirt and Grid are available, if you wanna try them.

I heard that you can only navigate menus with the 360 pad with Xinput. It does support DirectInput for gameplay, but you need to use the keyboard to navigate menus. I can attest to that first hand.

Yet another way Micro$oft is trying to turn Windows into a closed platform.

Microsoft didn't develop Dirt 2. The extent of its controller support is determined entirely by the developer, Codemasters. Or should I be annoying and say CodeMa$ter$? :D

Just use Joy2key - DL it here!

The 360 controller works correctly in every way with Dirt 2. You don't need anything aside from the controller and the drivers. No extra software is needed.

I know at one point Microsoft had talked about requiring any game with the Games for Windows tag, had to support the 360 controller. I don't think they stuck with that though, seeing as how Bioshock 2 has no 360 controller support.

interesting, I had assumed it did. got it on the 10% off 4 pack at launch but haven't gotten around to playing it yet. thought I could bust out the controller and just play it in bed via tv hahah

You could but you need to DL a program. Try the one I posted a few post back it's simple.

Megazell, Left 4 Dead works with the Xbox 360 controller by default. As does Dirt 2. In other words, don't push that program when it isn't needed. ~ ~
GRID if you are just choosing one, at least in my opinion.
Thanks for the input. Considering I got such quick responses last time...

What's a decent cheap racing wheel? Or if anyone's looking to sell me one, let me know.

I thought about buying GRID last time it was on sale, but I took a gander at the forums and people there said that online was a harsh place. You'd join a game, everybody would gang up on you and trash your car, then to top it all off, kick you out of the game. Sure there is SP too, but that kinda discouraged me from picking it up.

I'm more interested in Dirt 2...

Don't know if my Laptop will run these but I will buy them regardless since it seems like such a good deal, that and I plano getting a macbook pro during the summer.

Okay, I REALLY need to take a break from all of the Steam purchases. I have 141 games through Steam installed and my Steam folder is now 476GB. I got a problem, I only have like 30GB left on that install drive too. Son of a bitch.
I suppose it's hard to say as I don't want a junker but let's say nothing over 40?
Hit up e-bay or settle for a junker.

suggestions on a model?

edit: The Logitech Momo wheel and pedals looks pretty good and a few people are selling it in the 65-70 range. I suppose I wouldn't expect a decent wheel to be cheap so I'll probably just pick up GRID/DiRT and save up some cash.

If you are willing to pay the premium, Logitech would be the way to go in terms of brand, popularity, and support.

If you are going cheap, Thrustmaster makes a few budget wheels, something to check out.

fuck, they just had a Max Payne sale and I missed it.. FML... Those shits won't be getting my money til they bring down the price to what the bundle was when it was on sale.
