The Steam discussion topic! Joy and happiness, right here, folks.
fuck, they just had a Max Payne sale and I missed it.. FML... Those shits won't be getting my money til they bring down the price to what the bundle was when it was on sale.
It's not their fault you weren't paying attention. No need for hostility.

I disagree. I think he should burn a couch or something.

Do games ever disappear from Steam?

There's an RPG called Risen. I played the demo a while back and have been planning to buy it. Passed up a few in-store sales (or clearance or whatever) because I wanted to wait and get it on Steam when the price went down.

...but it is no longer on Steam. I search, and it's not there. Looked through all the RPGs on Steam. Not there.

What gives? I know it was there before! In fact, I think I might have even played the demo via Steam!

Hadda work, then get home and Steam notifies me that it's on sale when it's long gone. I suspect it should show up again some time during the week and if not I'll have to wait til it drops back down the price they had during the sale. Just the way my cheap ass mind works.

Pulled that link from the Risen forum page. It looks like it has been gone from Steam for a month or two. Apparently some dispute between Steam and the publisher based off of the vague comments in that thread.

Ended up getting Dirt 2. Did one race in the demo and promptly bought it right after. I was surprised at how well it ran too! Only have an 8800GTS 512 and I was getting 60 frames while at 1920x1080 with everything on high (no AA). I usually have to tweak the graphics settings a bit on the newer games to get a decent framerate. Not so on Dirt 2!

Didn't go for the pack as I don't think I'll ever play that many racing games. One is good enough for now.

I don't think the average Linux is used to paying for games (at least not on that platform), but maybe it'll work out somehow.

Agreed.

I think once they break on through with a 'popular' game...they will have serious bites from the community and it will be all up hill for them.

So they're having another MW2 free weekend. The last time they did this there were no sales whatsoever. Just a stupid $9 "discount" on MW2. I wouldn't be surprised if the same thing happened this week. Balls.

Although I guess there were two massive sales last week with the Rockstar collection and then the Codemasters pack...

Finally got Windows XP setup on the new iMac and I can finally play the large number of Steam games I bought during the last holiday sale. To be honest, using the mouse for Portal feels weird (played it on the 360 first)

A quick question... Where is a good primer on how to edit DOSbox settings? I would rather run those games in a window instead of full screen.

What games do you have that don't run windowed?

Also, I'll bet $20 it's going to be Shattered Horizon. If not midweek it'll be the weekend deal with the Firepower DLC coming out. If you don't already have it I highly suggest biting.

If you have a DX10 capable rig.

Is the new Steam client giving anyone else trouble? When installing games, it spends FOREVER on the "creating local game cache files" and sometimes just locks up entirely.

Ugh...

Did someone say one you could run the client through whatever browser you want instead of its default? I don't know if that would help, but I kind of hate how it's set up. I always view the store through FireFox instead since the client won't allow multiple tabs.

I'd be happy if it would just install stuff like the old one and if it wouldn't lock up.

It is in fact on sale, but I don't think it's the midweek madness deal (don't think we're going to get one of those at this point). And it's only $5 off $20. Still only have XP anyway.

No problems with the new UI for me either. Been loving it.

I guess the lock-ups are just non-responsiveness. If I wait, it comes back.

However, it takes forever for the "creating local game cache files" bar to fill. Like seriously 15 minutes for Broken Sword II?

Hopefully nothing is screwed up on my PC. Haven't had any issues elsewhere.

Thus far anything running in DOSbox defaults to full screen. So Commander Keen, Wolfenstien, ect...

Picked up the ID software and Valve Software packs in the last sale.

Just played ~15 minutes of Shattered Horizon, seems like a MAJOR improvement. Really makes different guns fill different roles and the new nades seem sweet. Iron/laser sights are a big improvement too, game feels way more fast paced now.

I too played some Shattered Horizon about an hour ago. The game still feels really slow. I also don't know the camp spots, so I constantly get killed by someone just lurking in the darkest/farthest part of the map. The game still feels bland to me. I don't think I'd ever be able to sit down and play for longer than 30 minutes without getting bored to tears.

This game looks really interesting to me:

Iron Grip: Warlord

It's a multiplayer FPS combined with tower defense. The reviews aren't super positive - basically it's only good in multiplayer. But if you could get a good group going, it's probably quite fun. They sell a 4-pack for $23.98, which is $6 each.

But it should be noted, the game only *just* came to Steam. Now that it's on Steam, way more people could start playing it.

Not gonna happen.
I'm looking into downloading some PC games for Mac Steam. Can you guys recommend any awesome titles that are PC exclusive?
Exclusives? I'm going to interpret this as "not yet on consoles"

Counterstrike: Source
Plants vs. Zombies (Also on iPhone/iPad)
Dawn of War 2
Total War
Civilization series
Torchlight

That's all I can think of =/ I don't know if these titles are Steam Mac compatible, but they're currently on Steam. Something to check out when the Steam Mac starts rolling.

Ohh. I thought that there were certain titles that don't make it to consoles. I see.

so.. CS:S is in beta for a new update!!

damn that was quick, already full.
CS:S Beta? Looks like they're TF2-ing the game

http://store.steampowered.com/app/260/
when you say TF2'ing the game, do you mean possible achievement servers? Kill/achievement swapping etc? Probably haha

*edit2*

alright played a quick round. There's now very high for textures.. umm motion blur, multicore..

when you get killed tehre's a TF2 like save this screen shot F5 and zoom freeze on your killer. So yeah TF2 like haha. Pretty standard achievements, win 100 rounds on each maps, kill x amount, win by planting bomb etc etc, stuff you should get by playing normally, then I saw one where you survive ten rounds without dying or spending cash on new guns.. also earn $xx dollars.

Played a few min an wow, boy did i get raped.
I cant honestly say if its any better then the current cs:source because it was ages ago since i played it last time.

All i know is that ppl jumping and strafing around pwnd the shit out of me when i was crouching and burst firing.

One think i miss though, but that has never ever been in cs at all. Aiming down the sight. Seriously add it...
Apparently Hidden Path is working on this which sounds to me like they've gotten buddy buddy with Valve.
Yup. I kinda wish they'd hurry up with that Defense Grid multiplayer add-on, though...

Yeah I started played CS:S again the other day too... boy am I terrible now. The flash spamming is out of control - literally 50% of the time I'm alive my screen is white. And headshots... my god the headshots. Every time I see an enemy they immediately tap me in the head before I can even do anything. Needless to say, I'm not looking forward to the whole stat recording thing... my numbers are going to be terrible.

Play for fun, not for numbers.

But maybe numbers = fun, so...

I do play for fun, but at least right now nobody knows how terrible I am as a player in general. Having actual numbers to back up that fact would be... embarrassing to say the least.
