The overall show was better than I expected. The opener was excellent and would up being one of the best matches on the show, and definitely the best match of Dolph's career. The crowd cared more about him during this match than ever before, and these two gelled once again. While I'm a little disappointed that Dolph lost, I am also glad that WWE is keeping their promise to Rey of a long title run. It's a shame Dolph's caught in the crossfire because he really can't afford many more big losses like this without the crowd losing faith in him and giving him a choker label.
MVP-Swagger happened. Neither guy really gained anything from this match, and it paled in comparison to the prior one. Hopefully the win allows MVP to go back up Raw's card instead of just being lost in the shuffle, but I'm not holding my breath on that one.
The tag title match was about what I expected after seeing how good Cryme Tyme was on SD. Not a tag team classic, but JTG was perfect in there with Jericho, and Show played his part well. The tag role has helped him a lot because it just allows him to focus on what he's good at without exposing his flaws. The finish was great, with JTG struggling to get to the ropes during the Walls - and doing an excellent job at that, and then making it...only to get punched by Show and lose. Awesome.
Kane-Khali was abysmal. I kind of hope this was about it for Khali on a major level - God bless the guy, but he appears to struggle with just about everything, and it's sad to see. DX-Legacy was about what I expected if DX didn't just kill them, and thankfully, that didn't happen. Ted and Cody were given a lot in this match and made to look competitive with DX. The DX intro was certainly grandiose, and quite memorable. It's not a personal favorite all-time OMGHUGE! intro, but definitely the best one DX ever had. Shawn looked good here, and I wouldn't mind DX having a longer run just to prolong his career.
Christian-Regal pissed me off. In a repeat of last year's ECW Title match bullshit, we got a five-second match between the show's top two guys for a title that SHOULD MEAN SOMETHING but struggles to because of shit like that shows the company really doesn't care about the belt. This had the potential to be the best match on the show, period, and wound up being a story point so that Christian can request a rematch to get revenge on Regal for he and his goons attacking him after it, which took longer than the match itself. I'm sure they'll tear it down when the real match finally happens, but I wish it would've happened here on the show that means something, as opposed to ECW show #95858.
Orton-Cena was a match. Nothing really special about it except for the overbooking, which I liked only because it was done in such a way that it made the title seem very important to Orton, set up the submission match next month, sets up Brett DiBiase in Legacy, and of course, featured Lilian Garcia screwing up and actually having to be corrected by MICHAEL COLE of all people. With that said, they probably didn't need to do FOUR THINGS to keep the title on him - that made Cena looked weak for not being able to beat this guy despite being given every opportunity and having the deck stacked in his favor. After I watched this, I instantly thought back to Vader winning by DQ and count out over Michaels, but losing when it counted - by pinfall, and that was the end of his main event career in the U.S. I don't think this'll do anywhere near that kind of damage to Cena, but man did he ever look bad after all this. Orton came off like a big face though, because he overcame the odds that put in his path by Mr. McMahon and Cena, and still won. With the RKO. Which could have happened WITHOUT ALL THE OVERBOOKING. They better have a damn good submission match mapped out for these guys next month to make up for the bullshit here.
Punk-Jeff was a fantastic finale to their feud and to Jeff's latest WWE run. It wasn't a complete stunt show, which I was glad to see, and it made the big spots more meaningful. The superplex onto the ladder off the top rope was nuts - that's a spot that I don't think I've ever seen before in real life, but sure is great in the No Mercy/Day of Reckoning 2 games, which is probably where it should stay as there's way too great a risk of injury for it. Especially since both guys will likely hit the ladder hard, as we saw with this match, and that cannot possibly be good for one's long-term health. The swanton off the top of the super-big ladder through the table was insane and a great highlight reel moment for what looks to be Jeff's final match of this run. Thank God he hit that perfectly, because if he hadn't, that too could have been bad. The post-match with Taker assuming Jeff's position and then attacking Punk was fantastic. Hopefully they reestablish the Anaconda Vise for Punk to set up that move vs. the gogoplata at Breaking Point, and I also hope that Taker regrows his beard because without it, he looks really old facially.
