I was thinking about the fact that I have not seen a single soul (including myself) talk about how awful Tomko is since he showed up in TNA. Frankly, he hasn't had many bad bouts (several forgettable ones) since showing up in TNA, and he's doing a good job playing Virgil to Christian's Ted DiBiase. He's made himself look like a legit threat in fighting with Abyss, and we believe in him because he's being set up to eventually give Christian some what-for.
But, as the "problem solver" in WWE, we all (again, including myself) shit all over him. He's a McMahon-bred muscle head no-can-work piece of trash, he's stiff and clumsy, and so on and so forth. The guy couldn't buy a break. Everyone hated everything he did ('cept probably Guyver :lol
.
So, is he better today? Different? Or is it that we just react to muscle-headed guys on WWE tv with that same disdain, and never give them a chance? Did his time b/w WWE and TNA make him a better wrestler (he spent most of it in Japan)?
Or, is he pretty much the same, and we cut him some slack b/c we want to see TNA succeed?
Thing is even in the WWE, Tomko displayed hints of a personality, or at least low-key self-confidence in contrast to Christian's over the top cockiness. "Hey, Tomko, give me a beat. - No."
He may not have much of a character, but the whatever character he does have gives the impression that he won't embarass himself to try and sell himself or his friends, especially when they're being idiots. Personally I like that.
In the WWE, he just wasn't given enough mic time and wasn't exploited as a valuable talent. So we had no reason to care about him.
Now we know he is in a stable with Christian, we know he's a no nonsense kind of guy, we know he's wrestled in Japan so he's not some musclehead they got in for the money and look, and slowly I've come to 'accept' Tomko as an all right wrestler. It's obvious he's improved on his skills (which consisted of nothing more than a running boot which missed half of the time in the WWE) and people might just enjoy his backstage promos as long as he has someone good to work off of like Christian.
