Granted, I suppose they could try and generate interest for 8 by releasing a previous iteration, but I don't see that working very well.
I noticed that the ESRB has added "Mario Party" (meaning MP1) to the newer re release ratings list. So i'm going to guess it's not far off.

European VC games released March/23rd/2007:

Castlevania - NES.
The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past - SNES.

Japanese VC released next Tuesday, March/27th/2007:

Donkey Kong Jr. Math - NES.
Hercules no Eikou 3 - SNES.
Alien Storm - Genesis.
Dino Bros. - Genesis.
Wonder Boy in Monster World - Genesis.
Kaizou Choujin Shubibinman - TG16/PC Engine.
How is Castlevania IV? I dloaded SOTN on the XBLA and love it, how does IV compare?
Almost NOTHING beats SOTN.
Even newer games released TODAY don't hold up to what SOTN has.

Cas IV while good, is nowhere near SOTN.

Just for giggles (and the sheer disappointment when it doesn't happen), my guesss for this week:

- Pro Wrestling
- Punch-Out
- Beetle Adventure Racing

I really wish these would hit, but then I probably wouldn't be waiting like a salivating dog every Monday at noon.

Are any of these even rumored yet? I think I heard something about Punch Out, but not the rest of those.

But as long as we are guessing...

Zelda II (NES)
TMNT (NES)
Star Fox 64 (N64)
Vectorman (GEN)

But Star Fox could end up being the only title...didn't they do that with Mario Kart?
Anyone who pays $5.00 for DK Jr. Math, deserves to be beaten to death.
Ahh crap, don't hurt me :(

juuuuust kiddin
Zelda II and ExciteBike HAVE to be on Monday
Excitebike is already out. This monday it was available but you may have missed it if you only went to the "new additions" area. Check the NES section and you'll find it.

Your right. I had forgotten to put that in the title as well. Thanks!
Why is it taking so long for N64 games to come out????
64 had the least # of games out of all the systems Wii has.
Release them all early, and you have nothing left.

DEAR SEGA AND EVERYONE ELSE:

PLEASE RELEASE (AND LET THEM RELEASE) YOUR THIRD PARTY GAMES ON THE GENESIS, ASAP.

This is getting kind of odd.

Well, Ghouls & Ghosts for the Genesis has been rated for the Wii. No mention of it coming out anytime soon though. But, it might be the NES version. No clue though.

I want The Hyperstone Heist myself. I'm beginning to think that Nintendo might be preventing them from releasing 3rd party Genesis titles. But, I'm not really sure why they'd do that.

Wasn't the hyperstone heist just Turtles in time with some rearranging? Either way, one of them needs to come out, cause I'd totally buy it after seeing the movie.

I know Pro Wrestling has been rated, and BAR has been rumored since day one. Nothing more than a rumor, though, I'm sure...sadly. 8(

It different game IIRC.

I hope tomorrow something sweet comes out. I have a ton of points in my account, and I am going to be home tomorrow sick :(... fever and possibly strep throat (dr's appointment tomorrow, cries)

..maybe it's me..but when you stay home from work/school..playing a really good classic game brings back many memories :)

If nothing good comes out, I will finish Super Mario World :)

IGN confirms that Virtua Fighter 2, Alex Kidd in the Enchanted Castle & Wonder Boy in Monster Boy are hitting the VC tommorow. Keep in mind that these all of them are Genesis titles, and that for $4 less you can pick all three up, plus twenty-three other titles on Sega Genesis Collection for PS2 (or $6 more for the PSP rendition).

My guess is that will be all that's released this week.

HELL YES. WONDER BOY WILL BE MINE.

Damn I love that game, and I don't think I ever had a chance to finish it.

I might throw down on Alex Kidd, just because he was a decent mascot at the time.

I BELIEVE IT IS TIME TO BOOGIE.

Edit: I thought I remember reading that Wonder Boy is not on the Genesis collection. No?

March 23, 2007 Today SEGA announced it has three more classic games from the Genesis library on the way to the Wii's Virtual Console

They were talking about this days ago. They still say "on the way soon" though. I would be amused if all 3 came out tomorrow. The only thing confirmed is that they will be here at some point.

Euro Wii got Castlevania yesterday.

Tonight's Wii releases are still up in the air. Yes, Europe got the original NES Castlevania and LoZ LttP.

TMNT NES is an obvious guess. It sounds like a slow week for VC, but maybe they'll surprise us in a few hours.

Ok, I feel pretty sure that I have confirmed Wonder Boy in Monster Land is not on the collection.

In determining this, it pisses me off to see that Sega is releasing a full collection of those titles over in Japan under the Sega Ages series, which I direly wish would come over here.

It does bring up the question on whether or not Wonder Boy might show up in a Genesis Collection 2.

No matter, I'll get it tomorrow (assuming it comes out).

I have no clue either. It's probably some title that didn't sell very well. Like most Sega Virtual Console games.

It seems the last 2 weeks have been slow for the Virtual Console. Last week was kinda forgivable since they had like half the total lineup come out. The week before maybe was okay with Tecmo Bowl, but I didn't get it.

They've got to release a Mario game this week. That's the tradition: 1 Mario game per month.
What's Wonder Boy? I've never heard of it.
Wonder Boy was originally a sort of answer to Adventure Island. In fact, the first one is damn near a ripoff, complete with scateboard and crap. It's the Giana Sisters to Mario Brothers.

Anyway, after that one, it went in an entirely new direction, and gave Wonder Boy a sword. So it became a side-scroller, but you had some RPG elements - you could get better armor, boots, helmets, increase your life, etc.

Originally they were just level based, so you'd get through a level, maybe get enough gold to upgrade yourself, kill a boss, and move on.

Then they switched formats into a Metroidvania sort of thing - you had areas to explore you could go back to, and if you got certain equipment, you could go back and get to new areas, etc.

So the final games ended up being a lot like Zelda II, but with no overworld map - you walked where you wanted to go. Eventually you coudl warp to different areas, swim underwater, etc. You'd go to temples and kill boss monsters and all that sort of thing.

The Genesis version is the last one (that I know of) that came to the USA, but it's really great. There's also a Sega Master System title where you could morph into different characters, and used them to get to various areas.

In all reality, the series became something that far outclassed (on the SMS) damn near anything the NES could really offer in terms of Metroidvania type games. The SNES could answer this a little better, but they are still great games and really ought to be played.

Anyway, I rented the Genesis one a long time ago and I don't think I ever finished it, so it will be a great title to download if it shows up.

Here's a good link with some info - http://hg101.classicgaming.gamespy.com/wonderboy/wonderboy.htm

I think the greatest thing about the games is that there is a huge amount of hidden stuff, which was virtually unheard of back in those days, and certainly didn't come in this quantity (Metroid notwithstanding, of course). There's doors literally in the middle of nowhere you just have to push up at the right time to find. Sometimes you'll be on a moving platform and find one! And there's ways to get more cash out of monsters and hidden coins in the middle of nowhere as well. So it forces you to constantly be searching.

There's even sidequests that you can do in the midst of the game. Again, this was all brand new at the time. But the series is very overlooked so it's easy to understand why it's not getting enough praise. I mean it's not the greatest game ever, but it's really fun and incredibly rewarding.

Thanks for the info, Strell. It sounds like it might be worth buying on the VC to check out, granted that they don't release it on any Genesis Collection.

Per Wonder Boy, it's actually the same game as Adventure Island. Hudson just changed the characters and sprites so they wouldn't get sued. Both games are ports of Wonder Boy for the arcades (yeah, Roufuss and I were talking about it a few days ago, I wiki'd for all this info).

Today is just Romance of the Three Kingdoms IV, surprisingly. Unless anyone strongly objects to this game, I will likely get it. I got my classic controller yesterday, finally, just need to grab some points.

Out of all the games on the VC you haven't yet downloaded, you will make your first game RotktetoKIV.

I am saddened.

Tradition? Nintendo delaying new video games an average of a year over the past two decades is a tradition. The VC release schedule is hardly traditional after only three months.

If anything their "slipping" of for a Mario game on the VC only holds up to traditional Nintendo values.

Long live the delay!

damn, kinda wish we were getting the three I mentioned, epsecially after all the praise strell bestowed upon it. That, and I was inccorrect about it being on SGC. My bad.

Is there a reasonable explanation somewhere as to why Japan gets more than 4 games a week, and we've averaged maybe 2.6 a week or so?

I mean, if it's "NoA sucks compared to NoJ," then so be it.

I can understand that, but when the majority of the releases in Japan have been released in the USA in the past, it gets a little under my skin. Still a good point though.

Oh well. I guess I just hold off another week.
why isnt the op updated yet!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Unlike you, I have a job. You can check the last page and see at any time what new game(s) were added that day. Updating the OP as soon as it happens will not always happen so you are going to have to deal with that. I am not being paid for it in any way, much like all the other posters here on CAG who provide information and/or manage a thread like this one. If you want up to the second news, I suggest Kotaku where they ARE getting paid and do it as a full time job.
