There are some really great Turbo games out there -- it's just that Hudson or whoever's in charge is putting out some snoozers. I mean, Moto Roader and Double Dungeons instead of Ninja Spirit and Bloody Wolf? It seems like Turbo games are just to fill holes in certain genres like shmups and RPGs. However, they hold back games like Neutopia as not to compete with Zelda and Bloody Wolf as not to compete with Contra III. I think the obscurity would help drive some of those VC sales, as we haven't seen/played them for a while, or just plain never played them.
re: Tecmo Bowl, that sounds like the biggest alteration a game has gone through for VC, instead of a simple emulation. Too bad they couldn't go one step further and add the ability to name players what you want.
I'm not sure how well obscurity will translate into VC sales. There seem to be two things right now: nostalgia (LTTP) and popular obscurity (Gunstar Heroes). The prices are just a tad high, IMO, for people to buy a game they've not tried out. That's unfortunate, b/c I'd love to see publishers get out stuff that's popular.
Truth be told, expecting Nintendo to let other gamemakers put out their top notch titles to compete with Nintendo's is like expecting WWE to treat WCW and ECW with respect when they were acquired. We saw how that happened.
That's not to say we'll never see "The Legendary Axe" (please!) or some classic Genesis title; you'll see it on a week when "Clu Clu Land" or "10-Yard Fight" is released, however, and probably some time after Nintendo's best have had time to simmer on the VC market and sell the bulk of their copies.
