I downloaded Paper Mario yesterday. It's only the second virtual console game other than Zelda I've bought. I've already got SMRPG on cart from back in the day but I still might d/l that when it comes out though.

hola! I'm back after a long (relaxing) week! I am stricken with some sort of stomach virus.. gotta love the food in other countries......I'm just saying "Hi!" and I'll get to updating the OP tomorrow, or just wait until Monday! GLAD to see Paper Mario came out!!! Now I hope this Monday sucks so it will help me balance out missing last week :D

"WII-KLY UPDATE: THREE NEW CLASSIC GAMES ADDED TO WII SHOP CHANNEL

July 23, 2007

Ah, the three classic summer leisure activities: golf, pinball and battling hordes of evil creatures. Luckily, it's Monday and once again Nintendo has you covered. Players can hit the crazy links with the spherical Kirby, become a pinball wizard or just enjoy an afternoon of helping good triumph over evil. So pour yourself a tall glass of lemonade and settle in for some classic gaming fun.

Three new classic games go live at 9 a.m. Pacific time. Nintendo adds new games to the Wii Shop Channel every Monday. Wii™ owners with a high-speed Internet connection can redeem Wii Points™ to download the games. Wii Points can be purchased in the Wii Shop Channel or at retail outlets. This week's new games are:

Kirby's Dream Course™ (Super NES®, 1-2 players, Rated E for Everyone, 800 Wii Points): Step up to the tee for the wackiest golf game of your life. This one- or two-player game features a floating golf course in the sky. High above Dream Land, players can pitch and putt the ever-popular puff ball, Kirby, through a maze of three-dimensional obstacles on a zany checkerboard course. Players must aim for the multitude of enemies that are spread throughout each fairway. Kirby must hit all the enemies to make them disappear, and the last one becomes the hole. Sink Kirby into the hole to advance to the next stage and clear all 8 courses – 64 holes in all.

Devil's Crush (TurboGrafx16, 1-2 players, Rated E for Everyone – Animated Blood, Mild Fantasy Violence, 600 Wii Points): Devil's Crush is the exciting sequel to the hit pinball game Alien Crush and features even smoother ball movement and enhanced special effects. Shoot the ball onto the board with the Devil Shooter, then use flippers and nudging to keep it in play and rack up a high score. Complete certain conditions to play up to six different bonus stages. Get a "Perfect Clear" on those to earn a huge amount of points. The game's ominous theme is enhanced by its enemies: wandering skeleton knights, sorcerers and even a giant face that changes from a goddess to a sinister serpent.

Shining Force™ (Sega Genesis, 1 player, Rated E for Everyone – Mild Fantasy Violence, 800 Wii Points): In ages long forgotten, Light fought Darkness for control of the world. Finally, the Ancients defeated the evil ruler of the dark forces known as Dark Dragon and cast him into another dimension, though he vowed to return in 1,000 years. As time passed, all memory of Dark Dragon was buried, and the land of Rune enjoyed 10 centuries of peace. Yet, as promised, the dark ruler returned, along with hordes of evil creatures that ravaged the land. As chaos erupted, several strongholds of Good still held out, awaiting a hero who could wield the Powers of Light.

The list of downloadable games is updated weekly on Nintendo's Online Press Room at press.nintendo.com. For more information about Wii, please visit wii.com."

Looks like a decent week, althought I'm not sure if I'm getting anything. Is Shining Force a straight-up RPG or a strategy game?

Wow, way to go Nintendo. They have given us two "wants" in a row. Kirin Lemon and Rocko are going to be quite happy to see Kirby's Dream Course up.
So I've got Shining Force sealed on GBA... what differences are there between the original/VC release and the GBA port?
According to Wikipedia, the changes include "expanded plot, new playable characters, increasing difficulty level (starting considerably low, but increases whenever the player finishes the game and begins a new play), and some tweaks in the gameplay (including the ability of using 'cards' in battle)."

Devil's Crush - Better video than last page, listen to the sounds!

I've never played Kirby's DC but it looks insanely fun. Never played Shining Force either but looks like a good tactics type game. I think I'm going to bite on Kirby and Devil's Crush.

Characters are intriguing.

Interesting....did someone keep whining about Kirby's dream course? If so, it's here...so that's 2 for 2 games less that you keep whining about :p

Now keep whining for Super Mario RPG while I just patiently wait for Super Metroid. :D

I don't know if maybe I was too young to appreciate it, but I remember playing Kirby's Dream Course back when it came out in 1994, and not being particularly thrilled by it.

fuck YEAH!!

Now bring on Mario RPG and EarthBound!

I would get Kirby and Devil's Crush as that video is beyond awesome.
Wish I knew the TG-16 more when I was younger.

That's one of the coolest pinball games I've ever seen.
Get Shining Force, people. It's inferior to its sequel, yes, but still one of the best SRPGs you'll find that side of Final Fantasy Tactics.
I agree. And, maybe if more people get SF that'll bring its sequel out faster. The sequel was one of the best SRPGs, I've ever played, and probably my favorite Genesis game.

Now, if only they'd begin releasing the Phantasy Star series (waiting for 4).

Well, I'm in for Kirby... This was one I always desperately wanted to play as a kid, and never got to.

Someone needs to explain the appeal of games like Shining Force to me... and I'm not trying to be a smartass, I REALLY want to know. I don't see how I'd possibly have the patience to play through a game where I had to move all my little people one and a time, over and over again. Is the whole game like that? It seems like it'd be painfully long and awfully repetetive, if so... so I must be missing something??

Now, srpgs have added better stories and some flash. Makes it more thrilling and tense.

Yeah yeah, people love these old Shining Force games. I never cared for them.

Planning out an attack, blocking paths, ganging up on tough guys. Seeing your men get slain... It can be very thrilling actually.
Some people like that. I do.

And yeah... SRPGs are really a throwback to board games. Takes a certain kind to like them.

Devil's Crush is as creepy as it was when I was 7. That chicks face in the middle of the board still scares me a bit  I didn't get Kirby yet, I'm debating because I have a feeling Super Metroid might be coming since Prime 3 is on the horizon and I'm getting low on my free points stock.

On deck for next week, the last of the TG16 games of July - Drop Off.

To those just discovering the TG16, you MUST get Air Zonk and Devil's Crush. Maybe Ninja Spirit. Consider one of the Bonk games too, though Bonk 3 could possibly be coming soon so you could wait.

You pay to revive them after the battle. I think it's something like 100g per lvl. It's one of the few SRPGs I've played that has an overworld with various towns in it.

It's sort of like playing Chess. Sure, normally the battles will take 30+ minutes each, but it takes a lot of planning out (unless you like power-leveling in something like Disgaea) in order to beat it.

How different is Devils Crush to the Genesis port (can't remember the name Dragons Fury or something maybe) ?

Don't be tempted by Alien Crush - skip it altogether (not saying you were tempted - just a general warning).

I highly recommend Devil's Crush, though.

Thank you! I can understand the appeal... I just don't think I'd have the patience! But my hat is of to those of you who do ;)

Do SRPGs usually have fewer battles, to compensate for how long they take? Or do the games go on a REALLY long time?

They tend to take about the same time as your usual RPG.

I've had fun with Alien Crush. Devil's Crush does look way better though.
I can't remember the amount of times I beat SMRPG. My estimated time of release for VC? Sometime in september.
Same here, great game. Love the avatar, by the way.

Sometime in September sounds good, as long as it isn't 2008. That would make me quite sad.

I think that the only thing I was never able to get in that game was the 100 jump accessory. I found the Money Bag, I upgraded the Lamb's Lure, and I even bought out the Frog Coin Emporium, but I couldn't do the jumps.

I succumbed and have been playing Paper Mario when I can. It's pretty fun, but pretty easy. Now I'm only up to Chapter 3 though. Does it get much harder? I can kick all the enemies asses without any trouble at all. In fact, I've pretty much just given up on using companions and just use Mario to fight. Still pretty fun though. I suppose having played PM: 1000 Year Door might have spoiled PM for me, but I'm hoping the enemies get alot harder further on.

Oh yeah, and I'd LOVE to see Blast Corps on VC. I remember having alot of fun with it, even though it was pixellated as hell.

Anybody else want to see Donkey Kong 64 on VC? Perhaps it is just nostalgia, as I remember the banana hunts being ridiculous, but for some reason I want this game bad. Has anyone heard anything?
Oh yeah, and I'd LOVE to see Blast Corps on VC. I remember having alot of fun with it, even though it was pixellated as hell.
I was playing Transformers the other day and was totally craving for some Blast Corps.

A quick tip for those with home theater systems, when playing VC titles set put your receiver to "All Channel Stereo" or the equivalent setting. Onkyo's say "All Ch ST" but other brands might call it something different. I noticed when playing F-Zero X today that the Wii isn't outputting to the other channels in Pro Logic II mode so it makes a huge difference. And of course don't forget to go back to PLII when playing your Wii titles and compatible GC titles.

That could be useful to add to the Wii FAQ, if it isn't already in there.
