I was hoping for earthbound..

I might get super C. Trying to keep a perpetual 800 points in the balance just incase Earthbound comes out.

Wowsa. I guess they stopped with the "no good VC games competing with retail releases" spiel. Though these are all non-Nintendo games.

Which G&G game is better? This one or Super?

Oh nice. Someone clear up for me and maybe others the difference with SUPER Ghouls N Ghosts and this one..? Updating the OP now

Super GnG is from the Super NES. Regular GnG is originally an arcade game, and then ported (very well, I should add!) to the Genesis.

I may be in the minority, but I far prefer regular GnG to Super GnG.

Is Breath of Fire 2 a good buy for those who like old-school turn-based RPGs? I almost blind-bought it, but figured I'd ask for some opinions.

I'd say it is. Good music, some nice things to do outside of battle (i.e., little symbols that denote a place to fish, and you can go back to them and fish and get good equipment, or little places that a certain character can dig, and find treasure and the like), some good character abilities to play around with.

It's very much an old school 16 bit RPG. I'd say it's worth it fully. Might want to read some other reviews though.

Some gameplay trailers. I never heard of "Super C"..and then, saw it was Contra! Who knew?? I didn't!

Super C Gameplay

Breath of Fire II (not that great.. sorry. The other videos were like "endings" and this was more of a gameplay type..)

Ghouls 'n Ghosts

Ghouls N Ghosts is the sequel to Ghosts N Gobblins. It has upgradable armors and diagonal shooting. If you a fan of Ghosts N Gobblins you will enjoy Ghouls N Ghosts.

Super Ghosts N Gobblins is an original game for SNES and is considered one of the toughest games ever.

Both are available via Camcom Classics Collection vol. 1

I might eventually get in on BoF2. I'm still playing Paper Mario and Lolo, and Super Metroid.. (LOL @ 7 1/2 hours in that game!)

Anyone who has completed BoF2, can you share how long roughly the game takes? Just more of a curiosity thing for me.

As odd as it sounds, watching the Breath of Fire 2 movie really makes me miss that sound Capcom had with their logo during the SNES era.

I remember my younger bro played BOFII for awhile, I think he had clocked in 20 hours before he stopped playing it.

Why? I don't remember, maybe he got stuck, but he did enjoy it. This was after playing BOF IV also, if that makes any difference.

Why release BoF2 before BoF?

I would hop on BoF2, but I have like 10 RPGs already that I still have to beat, on top of Bioshock (which is like an RPG in and of itself), and several other games, including MP3 which drops tomorrow.

I really want to crawl in a whole and disappear of the face of the earth for a couple months

If I'm not mistaken, BoF 1 was produced by Capcom, but Square released it in the states and likely still have the rights to the english version, and we all know how much Square likes releasing RPGs on the VC. :wall:

BoF 2 was actually released by Capcom in the US. That's probably why we get 2 before 1.

Eh, it's a solid RPG, but you'd be better off saving your $8 in points for something else. Very slow-paced, if I recall. I've played through the whole game when I was younger. Good if you like 16-bit turn-based RPG's that need fair amounts of grinding, but it's easy to get bored and give up. Shaman fusion was cool, though. Some characters have some bad-ass alternate forms that can be unlocked with the right fusions. The Township stuff is kinda spiffy if you choose the right people.

By the way, if you buy it:
Late in the game, there will be a boss fight in a church where there is an old man strapped to a machine with three parts you have to destroy. ONLY damage the machine parts, leave the man alone, so no mass damage dragon attacks! You have to save him to access the final dungeon and get one of the non-crappy endings.

Tempted to get something. I just got another 2000 points card from that good ol' lagoon. I mean I was lacking in points really bad at 9500..but now at 11500 it seems all good again..lmao

But no purchases from me until I finish SOMETHING
Come the fuck on man, you have got to be fucking kidding me. There's no way you didn't know they've been consistently sold out almost everywhere since launch.
the systems have been consistently available at GS/EB for the past 6 months, at least in los angeles.

IF the VC got bonk3, beyond shadowgate, dungeon explorer 2, dragon quest 5 and 6, mother 1 and 3, I would bite. Heck if they got half of those i would cave and get the system.

Maybe they would've sold one to you instead of the other guy that bought it, but damn man, they can't possibly sell more than all of them.

Stores like costco and target dont have the systems. EB/GS have loads. You make it sound like the Wii is sold out everywhere and if i dont run out and buy a Wii then someone else would get the last one, and i would not see another one for weeks. That is just silly. And inaccurate. You might as well say that the psp or nintendo DS is really rare, and they are sold out everywhere, and if i didnt already have one, they i wouldnt be able to get one because they are sold out everywhere.

I am a bit baffled that people are anxious to shell out $8 for games like streets of rage, final fight or space harrier 2 or ghouls n ghosts.

Then again, i am looking at that list and for the most part most of those games very excellent for $8. zelda 64, ogre battle, streets of rage, shining force, toe jam. And if the cards go on sale, heh
As odd as it sounds, watching the Breath of Fire 2 movie really makes me miss that sound Capcom had with their logo during the SNES era.
Yeah....

Just like the Fox Fanfare plays for almost all Fox movies, but every time I hear it I think of Star Wars, every time I hear that sound I think of Street Fighter 2. It was just the one Capcom game that I remember most, I think.

What I really miss is that horribly digitized-sounding SE-GAAAA logo sound. That, of course, reminds me of Sonic 1&2.

Since already have UGNG, I don't need Ghouls 'N Ghosts, but I'd definitely be interested in the other two games. I'd probably just hold off for now, as I've got Ninja Gaiden and Paper Mario to keep me busy for now.
Heh, for me it's the other way around. I've beaten Contra 3 multiple times but I HAVE NEVER PASSED Super Contra.

I have played it on my NES for years but I never get around to passing the whole friggin' game...*sigh*
Oh, if you ever get the "F" - Flame gun power up, you should hold on to it. It rivals the Spread gun in everyway, but I find it more powerful and useful.
Yeah, I save the Flame for boss battles, spread for regular playing. I have played Super C on the NES, I can't get past the boss thats the square turret thing. D/'d 3, and I am stuck on the third level. I keep getting owned by the climbing miniboss.

Oooooo yea, I hated that level with a passion. It doesn't get any easier but I found that level to be really annoying. What I did was carry the flame throughout the level and I just took my time. The bubbles are kinda annoying though, if there are any :whistle2:k, I forget, it's been awhile. I like the "spider" boss fight, I thought that one was fun :p

Well I just finally beat Super Metroid! It was fun! A bit confusing..but pretty fun! Completed my first run EVER in 9:43 lol and my completion was 67%.. I actually do feel accomplished. It wasn't a hard game..but, it's not an easy game really..that's what I miss about old games. Sigh!

Now, to work on beating Paper Mario!

that just reminded me of when I had finally completed all the different runs in Metroid: Zero Mission. After Completing Hard Mode in under 2 hours with under 10% completion, I felt like I could take on any gaming challenge

Just a heads-up that GameStop notes in the in-store binder that Contra IV on DS will include Contra and Super C... so if you're planning on getting Contra IV, you might want to avoid Super C on VC for now.

z0mg contra is coming to the DS?!? I missed the memo :/

Thanks for the heads up
Apparently Nintendo is emailing you with the news of VC updates now. Wednesday is a bit late, though.
Just got this too.

They really seem to be pimping out the video previews, but they need to incorporate streaming video into the shop channel. It's a shame that when you're browsing for games, the only thing you get to identify them is 2-3 tiny pictures.

Considering they created a channel just for streaming Metroid videos, it's probably coming SOMETIME in the future...

OK WOW

Today Europe got 2 games.

Vegas Stakes (SNES) and Bonk 3: Bonk's Big Adventure.

I wonder if this is any indication of Monday. Oh, I LOVED Vegas Stakes! That game was SO funny and SO shady at the same time!! "GIMME SOME MONEY MISTA"

Also, this past Tuesday Japan got Four games!
Spelunker (NES)..never heard of it
Otogirisô (SNES)..WTF?
ESWAT: City Under Siege (Genesis)
Drop Rock Hora Hora (TG16)..Is this the same as Drop Off..?

Anyway, here's to Vegas Stakes for Monday!!!

Aye, it was a kind of puzzle platformer adventure game.

You had these big levels to explore, and you had to get the treasure and keys. You'd unlock doors and progress further down into the cave (spelunking being the sport of cave exploration) to get more treasure, etc.

The challenge of the game was that you had to jump across pits, avoid ghosts and bats, jump on moving platforms, etc. It requires pretty precise timing, and you just die - no life. You have like 3 lives also I think.

If you beat the game, it cycles you back to the top of the cave, but now everything is in a new location. I think even the keys become invisible, which makes the game unbelievably hard.

Here:

It's a pretty good game. I might get it for fun.

http://vc-pce.com/usa/e/index.html

Bonk 3 coming Monday. Then the rest of the Sept TG16 pool consists off...

Neutopia II
World Class Baseball
Legend Of Hero Tonma

Hero Tonma looks like a superhero futuristic version of the Adventure Island guy. Mr. Higgins I think his name is?

Spelunker brings back great memories. Me and my friend Joey the Jew got drunk one night and decided to play Spelunker. I should preface by saying that earlier in the night we asked my brother to buy us some Bicardi (We were 19 then) so we could make Hurricanes. His devious ass brought us some Bicardi 151. Being youthful chaps we took it no questions asked.

Fast forward 3 hours and one broken blender later (don't ask), Joey the Jew busted out Spelunker. He also decided that if he was going to play spelunker he should don one of those halogen lamps people where on their heads. It was the funniest thing I had seen in a while. That was a fun night.

Hmm, so let's see if we can put together a possible guess for Monday.

Bonk 3 is confirmed.

I'm also going to guess Spelunker and Vegas Stakes.

If not, I have a feeling ONE of them games will make it Monday and if they decide to throw in a Genesis game.. it will most likely be Sonic 3, IMO

Well last week was technically all second sequel games, so this week maybe Bonk 3, Sonic 3, and Mario 3!? That would never happen.

I will go with Bonk 3, Vegas, and a NES game but not Spelunker. But a wildcard N64 would be grand.

Wrecking Crew came out LAST week in Europe.. so.. maybe if not Spelunker, then maybe that.
Bonk 3
Vegas Stakes
Wrecking Crew

Hmm. That JUST might work.

Yes, a random N64 game would be pretty awesome!
