Take it with a grain of salt, but the Virtual Console Wiki page lists the following games as being released on October 8th.

Fatal Fury: King Of Fighters (NeoGeo)
Art Of Fighting (NeoGeo)
World Heroes (NeoGeo)
It's legit, looks like a PR went out somewhere.

http://wii.ign.com/articles/825/825470p1.html

FATAL FURY (NEOGEO, 1-2 players, rated T for Teen - Violence, 900 Wii Points): Released in 1991 and one of the longest-running series in the fighting-game genre, this title introduced players to Terry Bogard, Andy Bogard and Joe Higashi. Select one of the three and visit many locations as your chosen fighter engages in numerous street fights around the fictional city of South Town. If you're good enough, you'll eventually take on Billy Kane and then his boss, the notorious crime lord Geese Howard. Use each fighter's own finishing maneuver and battle in two different planes on the screen, one in the foreground and the other farther away in the background. The game also features a two-player mode that is well known for its unique setup, which allows fighters to both fight and help each other. Do you have what it takes to win the King of Fighters tournament?

WORLD HEROES (NEOGEO, 1-2 players, rated T for Teen - Animated Blood, Violence, 900 Wii Points): A fighting game released in 1992 featuring eight characters, including Hanzo, Janne and Rasputin, modeled on historical figures from throughout the ages. The fighters compete against each other to become the world's toughest combatant, with players using a setup consisting of only three buttons (one each for punching, kicking and throwing). Adding to this unique system is the fact that the strength of your offensive blow depends on how long the button is pressed and held. Along with regular match styles, Death Match mode is also available and features mines, electrified ropes and other dangerous objects in the battle arena that can change conditions during the fight or damage players. Enjoy the wide range of combat forms as you take on history's best!

ART OF FIGHTING (NEOGEO, 1-2 players, rated T for Teen - Animated Blood, Violence, 900 Wii Points): This fighting game, released in 1992, began the story of the Sakazaki family and Robert Garcia, further developed in two later sequels. Yuri Sakazaki has been abducted by Mr. Big to punish her father, Takuma, and her brother, Ryo. To rescue her, Ryo and Robert must take on numerous enemies around South Town, eventually reaching the mysterious Mr. Karate. The passion of the game's creators is evident in the unique game-play elements introduced. These include an energy gauge that is depleted every time a fighter uses a special maneuver, Desperation Attacks that are usable only when a fighter's health is low and camera zooming that adjusts on the fly as fighters move around the stage. All these features ensure that players use strategy and tactics, rather than simply mash buttons. Adding to the mix are little touches such as characters showing cuts when they are injured and voice-over samples during cut scenes. Can you perfect the art of fighting and save Yuri?

Oh goodie, not only do we get one average fighting game - we get three!

Yawn. EarthBound and Mario RPG, please.

How's S&P in terms of difficulty? It's 1200 points which is a lot and I want to play it but it seems like every single game I've gotten from the VC is too much for me though all of those games are NES/TG-16 games.

The learning curve is in the control system. If you get the controls down, I think the game gets alot easier.

Although, I'm still slugging it through Easy... some of its a bit tough, even if you do get used to the controls, but its definitely pick-up-and-playable.

No, I think you're missing the point - it's Baseball Stars 2 we want! ;)

Great. I have sparkly pixels when I in Paper Mario as well.

My wii is dying.

I wonder how big the next gen of Neo Geo games will be.

All of those fighters are atrocious these days. They just don't hold up the same as a Street Fighter or even Mortal Kombat, imo.

I'll definitely pick up World Heroes!

Ok I played Salt & Pepper for a bit longer today and for me, I'm liking the Classic Controller a HELL of a lot better then the Wavebird. I couldn't get used to it! I kept dying and just couldn't get it right :(

I tried the classic controller..and played a HELL of a lot better.

Has anyone else played with both? If so, what do you like better?
Has anyone else played with both? If so, what do you like better?
Classic.

I tried the Classic first and thought the Wavebird would be better.

I was wrong.

YES! I started to play with it and was having a hard time and thought to myself "Well I guess I could always use the Wavebird!" Then I played for a bit longer and gotten used to the controls..until I tried the Wavebird. Yikes, did NOT like that at all!

Hopefully if S&P is successful we will see "Ogre Battle 64".

I would also like to see some NON-translated SNES RPG's hit the VC as well like "Holy Ark" which is 7th Saga 2. As for translated EnixSquare needs to cut the crap and finally give the U.S. the last of the Enix Trilogy which is "Terranigma".

I'd definitely pick up Ogre Battle 64 .. those Neo Geo games are ugh though.
I would scream like a school girl if they put out the Sega CD version of EC...fighting as a chicken FTW!
I don't think there was any difference in the CD or Sega Gen other than the FMV cut scenes. Was there? I thought you could be the chicken and dog in both of em.

Ehhh I like "Art Of Fighting". I think Fatal Fury is idiotic considering that just now FF Special has already been released on XBLA. I would like to see "Super Spy", "Crossed Swords" and "Crossed Swords 2" released myself for Neo-Geo. "Cadash" would be welcome for TG-16 or the arcade version on XBLA.
3 Neo-Geo games on Monday guys. So says IGN.

Or do you call Halo DS again?
Feh, if true. Not looking forward to Neo-Geo at all.

Yup. Just like we expected!

This week, Nintendo adds another delicious category to its smorgasbord of classic titles. NEOGEO games will now be appearing in the Wii Shop Channel for download. NEOGEO becomes the sixth platform represented in the Wii Shop Channel, and it adds additional depth and breadth to the best selection of classic games available.

Hard-core gamers will especially appreciate the vibrant, arcade-quality graphics and the ability to finally play games they might have missed during the NEOGEO heyday. The first NEOGEO offering includes three fighting games that are a mix of familiar franchises and cult classics. Dive in and check out the deep game play, diverse characters and special moves and combos.

The three new classic games go live at 9 a.m. Pacific time. Nintendo adds new games to the Wii Shop Channel every Monday. Wii™ owners with a high-speed Internet connection can redeem Wii Points™ to download the games. Wii Points can be purchased in the Wii Shop Channel or at retail outlets. This week's new games are:
How much space do these Neo Geo games take up?
::shrugs:: I should be available around noon.. I'll go check each one and report back here.

I wouldn't mind trying NAM 1975 with cursor tracking (and using the nunchuk to control movement), but I highly doubt that would ever happen.
I can not believe how slow this thread has been today! I guess these NeoGeo titles aren't that big of a deal, eh?
I think the addition of the system itself - rife with potential - is good.

But starting us out with literally some of the first games for it ever is kinda ...boring. Especially when those games are pretty much clones of Street Fighter 2.

Especially when you can get better versions that provide a much more elaborate and satisfying gaming experience than you can on the VC. Compilations, XBL superiors, etc.

Apparently Baseball Stars is a good game (I think that is what it is called), and there are some nice little arcade beat-em-ups, so I'll wait for those.

Yeah, I feel the same way.

I think it's awesome that there are Neo Geo games on the Wii, but I can get these games in superior form elsewhere.

Fatal Fury - 85 Blocks
World Heroes - 111 Blocks
Art of Fighting - 137 Blocks

So at least THOSE games are about the same size as the N64 games.

There are plenty excellent Neo-Geo titles.
But the ones everyone should really play are bigger than every title on the VC currently.

The Wii has what 512mb?
Oh man... some of these take a couple hundred, close to 300mb.

I hope there's a solution soon Nintendo.

Baseball Stars (either 1 or 2) would be awesome. I just don't think anyone really wanted three versions of essentially the same fighting game. Seen one, seen 'em all.

There's already collections recently released that have all these fightings games in nice little packages.
I haven't played yet to compare how up to snuff they are to the originals.
I'm curious how accurate the VC can emulate NG titles as well.

I used to be an NG freak but the hobby was too expensive when I was younger.

So I wonder with including NeoGeo games if we will STILL get 3 games a week. Especially with TurboDuo/CD games coming out soon..4-5 games a week will seem like a must, imo.

Also, after updating the OP today I realized we really do NOT have that many SNES games! I'm really surprised!

That's a good question. How do they determine what to offer if you've got so many systems?

I can't imagine it would be hard to bump it up to 4-5 games a week. Wish I knew someone on the inside who could shed some light on that...

The only thing I remember about World Heroes was beating the game in one quarter the first time I played it.

NEO-GEO has some amazing fighters, but these three don't even hold up in terms of how 2D fighters have evolved over time. Yech.

Thanks, lilboo and dallow. (Glad to see Neo Mr. Do! at only 50 megs, which I think would make it more likely to get released--especially over some of those monster sized games!)

im very happy to see neo geo make the jump to the Wii VC. I really want the sengoku series to be up there. Hope one day Sengoku 3 gets released. That is one of the best beat em ups ive ever player.

The 3 released...ill stay away from. They have aged poorly and its not worth my 900 pts. would rather spend on it on Shinging force 2(when ever that gets released) or Actraiser 2(same boat)

I just downloaded World Heroes and the game looks all messed up. Poor emulation perhaps. I'm might have to call Nintendo so that they can refund me my 900pts. Anyone else having this problem?

I think they are still working out the emulation. I read on gonintendo that there's no save states and the games don't support 480p right now.

I don't know if they are going to fix that or not. Part of me wants to say yes, but this is Nintendo after all...
Here's a master list, plus sizes.

http://www.neo-geo.com/snk/masterlist.htm
I wonder if the "Meg" sizes are Megabits (most likely) or Megabytes. Either way, the sizes are going to be larger than that due to the fact that the emulator is packed in with each game.

Sad that the emulation is lacking at this point but there aren't a whole lot of NEOGEO games I want to play anyway.

wow, they really started with the bottom of the barrel.

once again, Fatal Fury: MOTW, next U.S. release on a relevant console: sometime in 2012.

I've been waiting for a solution for a while now. No more buying until Nintendo gives us more space.
I've been waiting for a solution for a while now. No more buying until Nintendo gives us more space.
I agree completely.
But it's the people who make excuses for it, will probably make Nintendo NOT do anything about it.
The 2 excuses are "Just delete & redownload" or "Put the games you don't play on an SD card"
We should be able to play the game on the SD card, and that statement has been overused.

Well to update my situation, I deleted and redownloaded the game but its still messed up. I called Nintendo tech support and they said that they will have someone call me back tomorrow to see if I can get my points back.

Maybe God's punishing you for downloading World Heroes. If that's the case, I dunno if you'll be able to get your points back.

Seriously though, gazing at the list in the OP with all the VC games is rough. I'm definately going to have to get a Wii pretty soon. With a quick initial rundown of the list I found something like 30 games I'd want. Nintendo can't come out with a hard drive soon enough.
