EDIT - Ok, so I just read that the 24 man battle royal at Mania is now a dark match available on WWE.com only? Ridiculous.
Just goes to show again how important the ECW title is.

Horrid bait and switch on WWE's part to make the battle royal a WWE.com piece after advertising FOR WEEKS that it would be on the main show. Sure, the number of participants was higher than the number of people on Earth who cared about it, but that's still some shitty false advertising from them.

Aside from Carlito-Shelton (which had an amazing ending) and most of all, Gordon Solie's HoF induction announcement, this was a completely skippable ECW show. Not the message to send out five days before the biggest show of the year.

mykevermin, I can see that point - where the shilling gets so annoying that you're sick of it. I didn't get that vibe from Raw, but it's a valid point.

There was a brand vs. brand battle royal at WM within the last few years that was a dark match as well. There's a precedent for it so it's really not that surprising.
Those fuckers need to hurry up and announce what the stipulation is going to be for the Strong/Stevens match.

Stipulations To Be Announced After March 22nd FIP Event
Roderick Strong vs. Erick Stevens

I'm hoping for either a last man standing, cage or ladder match.
So, it turns out that the stipulation is that the title is on the line...really fucking lame.

March 26th: This is going to be a very special weekend for FIP World Heavyweight Champion Roderick Strong and Erick Stevens. Both athletes were born in Florida. They learned their craft and climbed the ladder in Florida. They can both be considered the top Florida bred pro wrestlers. Now they will get to showcase their skills in front of their friends and family for the first time in a ROH ring this weekend. Stevens vs. Strong has grown from a rivalry to a full fledged blood feud. They will be on opposite sides of the six man main event this Friday when NOAH, Dragon Gate & ROH join forces to take on the No Remorse Corps. Then on Saturday it will be Strong vs. Stevens one-on-one for the FIP World Heavyweight Title!!! Strong won the title from Stevens about five weeks ago in controversial fashion, now Stevens will get his rematch this Saturday in Orlando. Get your tickets at the door to see this war!!!

Now that's a high spot. A CAG (I don't remember who) has this as a gif in their sig.

Correct. Both 21 and 22 had them.

23's dark match was the infamous 'let's bump Ric Flair off the Mania card' debacle.

The problem I have with this one is that, unlike 21 and 22, there's a story behind this one. Of course, 'story' is just a fancy way of saying that it means a WORLD TITLE OPPORTUNITY. I realize that's funny, but if they want to give up on the ECW title, that's fine... just be open about it.

If they were going to dark match it, why not just have the battle royal a week or two ago and then BUILD UP TO A DAMN ECW TITLE MATCH for Mania AND give us a reason to actually be watching ECW aside from HoF announcements? Hell, you could even still have another battle royal at Mania if they wanted.

Sorry, I understand that the ECW title is effectively a joke, but I'm really getting sick of WWE treating any title that isn't the WWE Championship or the WHC like it's something that was found in a crackerjack box. Though, hey, at least now we have an IC that actually seems happy to, or even does, acknowledge that he's the IC champ. The cruiser title is gone, the ECW title has replaced it, and half the time I can barely remember who EITHER brand's tag champs are. While I love MVP, him holding the US title for this long isn't doing anything for him, or the belt. In fact, I'm amazed he's even kept it, considering that I would have expected them to get it away from his as soon as possible, considering. Oh, he's the longest reigning US champ in WWE history, holding it for close to a year ever since he won it back from (name deleted).

I just wish they'd treat the titles like they're WORTH fighting over, you know?

I really do apologize, I seem to be ranting a lot tonight, both here and other threads. I think I'm just cranky.

Is there an ECW Title match on the card for Mania? Wouldn't surprise me to see Chavo defend the belt against the winner of that battle royal on the actual show itself. If that's the case, I pray that someone with some talent wins (Yang, Noble, Morrison...etc.).

It's not very surprising that the battle royal will be a dark match. Seems like a way to get as many people as possible on the card so they can get a Wrestlemania payday.

Here's the list of people who are going to be in it:

Raw
- Brian Kendrick
- Cody Rhodes
- Hacksaw Jim Duggan
- Hardcore Holly
- Lance Cade
- Snitsky
- Trevor Murdoch
- Val Venis

SmackDown
- Chuck Palumbo
- Deuce
- Domino
- Festus
- Jamie Noble
- Jesse
- Jimmy Wang Yang
- Kane
- Mark Henry
- Shannon Moore
- The Great Khali

ECW
- Elijah Burke
- Kofi Kingston
- Matt Striker
- The Miz
- Tommy Dreamer

Out of those people, I'm guessing Snitsky is going to win it thanks to the build they gave him on tonight's ECW but I'm hoping Tommy Dreamer wins it and we get a real hardcore match for Wrestlemania.

I just saw the commercial for the upcoming Wrestlemania...

Floyd Mayweather vs. The Big Show?!

What the fuck is Mayweather thinking?

Like seriously, are you hurting for money that bad you need to embarass yourself with this shit?

It's crazy.

Be quick with it.

I love how they hype the "talent sharing program" or whatever it is between Smackdown and ECW, then they go ahead and have RAW guys in that battle royal anyway, with no explanation. And on the same night we'll have a battle for "brand supremacy." They really need to make up their minds on this brand extension already!!!

They send so many mixed messages with their own booking. Are the brands separate? Do the brands hate each other? Are we supposed to care? Are the fans expected to have some sort of "brand loyalty" or are we supposed to just love everybody? Are we supposed to be surprised when a guy shows up on a different show? The whole "brand" concept is just a mess right now... either commit to the damn thing or just get rid of it!

I don't give a fuck what show they're on: Hardcore Holly and Snitsky are still Hardcore Holly and Snitsky.

That kind of crap makes the nWo "B-Team" look like the Four Horsemen.

Can Shelton Benjamin use the MITB match to climb back up into the upper midcard?

Here's the thing... Triple H was high (har har) on Jeff Hardy but Hardy obviously blew it. He was also a fan on Shelton (I think) and Benjamin has pinned Triple H, sort of cleanly on a couple of occasions. With the Hardy MITB win option off the table, it seems like a ready-made PPV feud for Shelton to win the MITB match and, based on his past victories, challenge Triple H for the title (assuming Trips comes out of WM with the title). It wouldn't last long and it probably wouldn't result in Shelton Benjamin winning the title but it would at least give the ball that Hardy dropped in spectacular fashion to a guy who's (as far as I've heard) always kept his nose clean and can wrestle his ass off.

Then again, black = extreme so if Shelton wins, maybe he'd just cash it in for an ECW title shot (assuming that's allowed).
Is there an ECW Title match on the card for Mania?
Yeah, the actual title match will happen on WM.

As for the battle royal, they're doing exact what they did at Sunday Night Heat before WM 15 with the battle royal then(although that one was to get a match for the tag titles). They'll have the battle royal before, then have the match 2nd on the card.
Including the battle royal as part of the event, is there anyone on the active roster who won't be a part of WM (Jeff Hardy excluded)?
Mike Knox & Stevie Richards?

I don't remember them being mentioned in that 24-man tag match last night, which is supposedly all the guys in the battle royal.

Paul Burchall, Santino Marella (but he'll probably be a part of the Bunny match), Super Crazy, Matt Hardy, and Big Daddy V come to mind. Of those, I'm only surprised by Big Daddy V.

Can someone refresh me on why the WWE still employs Jim Duggan? I only very casually followed wrestling post-WCW, so I'd love to know what made him even the least bit relevant again.

I guess they forgot to fire him...?

Don't know if it's been mentioned or if it's common knowledge, but Matt Sydal is the individual who's been training Floyd Mayweather. They're about the same size, and if Floyd's a quick learner, it might actually be entertaining.

I'd totally mark out if Floyd hit a moonsault press.

Matt Sydal is training Mayweather?!

Mania might just be worth ordering for that alone!

So, interesting note... they cut all Benoit references out of the Austin DVD, including butchering the end of the HHH/Austin match, but apparently he's mentioned AND shown on the HHH DVD when he talks about one of his quad injuries.

Yeah, so, that makes sense.

that was debunked, i believe. he helped mayweather with taking one bump (the toss out of the ring on raw a bit ago) safely, but hasn't been involved past that. at least i THINK i read that. i'm quite tired.

Who did Paul London piss off? He goes from Kendrick walking out on him/jobbing in a tag match, to losing a dark match, and now he's not in the ECW battle royal at Mania, while Kendrick is.

..."the wrong person" is the answer I'll take.

Not that I would ever be naive enough to think he'd have made something of himself in WWE.

I haven't gotten to see any of his ROH matches but judging from his matches against Samoa Joe and Low Ki from back in the day, I'd say "yes".

Which gives me an excuse to post the most inspirational thing on the interwebs.
Does Necro Butcher mesh well with ROH's style?
Necro does well. He is usually one of the more over guys on any of the shows and the other wrestlers accommodate him with more of a brawling style in order to work to Necro's strength. I saw a NO DQ match in NYC between Necro Butcher vs. Erick Stevens vs. Roderick Strong and it was arguably the best match of the night.

Good/bad news about Rey from prowrestling.net -
Rey Mysterio underwent three surgeries on his torn biceps. He is telling friends that two additional surgeries were necessary because he acquired an infection during the first procedure. He is currently in Orlando for WrestleMania 24, but he does not know whether he will appear on the show. Mysterio is now targeting June for his return to the ring.

Rey's got to be nearly finished as a full time wrestler. I remember him having nagging injuries quite frequently towards the end of WCW and that's now almost eight years in the past. I'd hate to see him push onward into his 40s and wind up a complete wreck ala Dynamite Kid.

I got this from gamingring.com:

WWE SmackDown vs. RAW 2009 Officially Confirmed!

IGN confirms the next iteration in the series, WWE SmackDown vs. RAW 2009, for the X-Box 360, PlayStation 3, Wii, PlayStation 2, DS, and the PSP. Read inside to see what each version will have. (NOTE: Stay tuned to GamingRing.com for lots more on the title, including interviews with superstars at this year’s THQ’s Superstar Challenge.)
This year’s installment is chockfull of tag team action, DLC, and a whole lot more.

March 27, 2008 - It’s been about four months since we had any substantial grappling news from THQ, but the Los Angeles County-based publisher put an end to that today: WWE SmackDown vs. Raw 2009 is coming.

Although it won’t be formally announced until tomorrow, THQ has confirmed with IGN that the latest installment in the storied wrestling franchise will be making its way to the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, Wii, Nintendo DS, PSP, PlayStation 2 and mobile devices this fall while boasting a bevy of bells and whistles.
On the Xbox 360, PS3, PSP and PS2, the biggest change in the action will come with a strong focus on tag teams. For the first time ever, players will be able to team up for co-op storylines in the Road to WrestleMania mode and take advantage of an overhauled tag structure to earn attributes on their way to the top. Tag teams — both in and out of Road to WrestleMania — will utilize the same momentum meter, break opponents with double team finishers and make “hot tags” for the win. Also making its debut will be Create-A-Finisher, which allows fans to choose from more than 500 animations in their quest to build the ultimate move. Specifically on the 360 and PS3, fans can look for the debut of SVR downloadable content, although THQ is mum about what it might be.

WWE SmackDown vs. Raw 2009 marks the franchise’s second title on the Wii, and THQ looks to be building on the motion controls and interactivity of the first outing. The game promises more match types, more weapons and the debut of online gameplay, which will feature matches and rankings. Although the title will pack Road to WrestleMania like the aforementioned versions, the Wii copy of SVR ‘09 will be the only place to find interactive entrances and victory celebrations that range from posing on the ramp to slapping the taste out of a beaten opponent. Successfully get the crowd hyped on your way to the ring and you’ll get an in-match bonus.

Seasoned players who pick up SVR ‘09 on the Nintendo DS will probably be in for more than a few surprises. Gone are the stylus-heavy controls of last year and in their place is a more traditional d-pad/grapple system gamers that have grown up with, although the stylus will still play some part in the action. Being developed by Tose, the folks behind Dragon Quest Heroes: Rocket Slime, the DS version of SVR ‘09 will pack a season mode with an RPG approach. Players will interact with Superstars, upgrade their abilities and complete missions to become the champion. Create-A-Superstar will make its Nintendo handheld debut, there will be a larger roster of Superstars, and the title will pack a wealth of new match types.

“The ambitious cross-platform launch of WWE SmackDown vs. Raw 2008 last year yielded tremendous growth for the franchise, as we delivered multiple gameplay experiences across seven platforms and greatly expanded our audience of WWE videogame fans,” said Bob Aniello, senior vice president, worldwide marketing, THQ. “With dynamic new features and the extension of our gameplay experience through downloadable content, WWE SmackDown vs. Raw 2009 will bring more console, handheld and wireless gamers together to enjoy the virtual world of WWE.”

Think that’s all the news you’ll get on this momentous day? It’s not even close. First, let’s confirm that Chris Jericho, Jeff Hardy, Matt Hardy, Randy Orton, Mr. Kennedy, Undertaker and John Cena are all in the game. Second, why not click on over to our interview with THQ Creative Manager Cory Ledesma for nine pages of information about what Road to WrestleMania is all about, hints on the DLC and tons more. Then, go download the brand new trailer. Next, grab some screens from the gallery below.
After all that, you have our permission to fall into a SVR ‘09 coma until the fall.

Sounds sweet...hope they don't fuck it up...but meh...we all know the answer to that

Didn't they hype DLC for the PS3 version of SvsR 08, even saying that they may add a couple of wrestlers down the road? What happened with that? Yeeeah..

I've heard that they're saying 09 will have the biggest roster so far. Kinda bummed that the Wii will have the interactive entrances, it sounds cool.. but it's probably no more than raising the remote/nunchuck up and down a few times.

You know what would be an awesome feature for the Wii? If you're in a tag team match and you're on the outside and your partner is getting the shit beat out of them, you could slowly flick the remote up and down and basically get the crowd stomping in unison, then it'd give your partner a brief powerup, perhaps enough to reach you and tag you in, then you'd get a performance bonus.. that would kick ass.

It's Yukes.

They will not only mess it up, they will somehow make it even worse than 2008

Let me predict Impact tonight:

- We'll be reminded that Rellik is "Killer" backwards at least 10 times.
- Alex Shelly wins the qualifying match going on right now.

Edit: Okay I'm wrong.... Devine won.

- Kurt wins over AJ and Tomko in his warmup match.
- Sting doesn't show up until the end of the show.
- Awesome Kong vs...... Christy Hemme?

LOL...

Booker T: "Robert Roode, you won't make it to Lockdown! I guaran-damn-tee your punk (Booker realizes he can't say ass; awkward pause) THAT!"

Rhaka Khan is as hot as her name is stupid.

Too bad the WVU/Xavier game is so good, otherwise I'd be watching more of this.

EDIT: Ooh, Rory, you tryin' to get fired?
