The Yes We CAG Movement - Now to win the Presidency!

What's wrong with DOMA and DADT?

The federal government should have little to no business in marriage laws. Primarily, it should be a religious rather than secular matter; but, I recognize that for administrative purposes it is convenient to have some recognition by the government. For these purposes, it should be a states' right issue. Through DOMA, this is essentially the case, with the exception of polygamy.

DADT is fine as well. Sexuality should ideally not be brought up in the military since it should be of no consequence to the job at hand. What would you like? Name tags with gay or straight underneath one's name?

There is no doubt that Bush has made unprecedented erosion's to our privacy. Sure it's annoying having my super secret phone conversations spied on and being accosted all the time at the airport. I don't approve of any of it.

But it seems Democrats always plan to bloat government agencies even further to regulate our every day lives. With constant inactement of Robin Hood laws and Equalizing policies, that seems to be how they define "freedom." I'm not interested in the government telling me what my problems are and trying to solve them for me without my consent.

I am a very strong believer in pushing 99% of all power to the most local governments possible, even to the individual in many cases. Democrats tend to believe in the reverse on most issues. The only obvious reason for a Federal Government to begin with is to run a protective military.

So, let me guess..... You're for Ron Paul?
So, let me guess..... You're for Ron Paul?
I didn't like everything he stood for but I probably would have voted for him, yeah.

Certainly not into him enough to have the bumper stickers and home made signs though.

Obama's campaign is having a free shuttle bus to take people on campus to the Board of Elections office so they can vote early. I've seen shitloads of Obama signs and things around here, but nothing for Hillary. Big surprise on a college campus.

I'm sure Obama wants them all to vote early and often ;).

Uggghhh... people who wave signs and plaster bumper stickers over their cars are supremely annoying... even if there were a candidate that I gave a crap about, I'd never deface myself or my property with such tacky kitsch.

True, but the nonexistent presence of Hillary on campus is very telling about her campaign. She shilled Chelsea out here a few weeks ago, but that's all (who seriously gives a hoot about Chelsea anyway?). fuck, even McCain was here a few weeks ago even though he was already a lock (he wasn't right on campus, but he was downtown just a short bus ride away). The Obama people had Michelle visit a couple weeks ago, and Obama last week. Obama has also visited other Ohio universities. The local Obama campaign (I'm guessing) put signs in the residence halls and a placard on every table at the dining hall about the early vote. Obama's popularity and visibility on college campuses in Ohio is likely to make a big difference for him tomorrow, but it won't be the only factor.

I really hope he pulls an upset in Ohio. I won't be a part of it, though, since I am registered in RI and did an absentee. ;)

Can't wait for the caucuses tomorrow...I'm supporting Clinton, but then again, Jersey is Hilary country. There isn't as much enthusiasm here for Obama as there is in other parts of the country, though there still is a alot.

All my family's split in between Clinton and McCain. My grandfather was for McCain all along (he was in the Navy and has almost exactly the same political views as him), but the rest of my family was really big on Edwards (a lot of them are in unions) until he dropped out.

Haha, I'm not closely related to anyone supporting Obama (as far as I know), even though most of us will support him if Clinton loses.
I've been trying to post in this thread for the past two days, but every time I typed his name, I kept fainting.

C'mon? how hard can it be to type Obaaaaaaa.......................zfvfgreg bht.sg$$$btyjycv*&jyfv./?wefcvthtr.zbig.niew.brzezin.,ski
I think it's funny that people have 'fainted' at Bill Clinton appearances lately. Come on people, have some dignity.

You know the old saying, follow the money. Just out of curiosity I went to see who was the biggest $ contributors to Obama. Not making any claims here, come to your own conclusions, it's just a big FYI.

Goldman Sachs $474,428
Ubs Ag $298,180
JP Morgan Chase & Co $282,387
Lehman Brothers $274,147
National Amusements Inc $265,750
Sidley Austin LLP $251,657
Citigroup Inc $247,436
University of California $239,944
Skadden, Arps et al $228,520
Exelon Corp $226,661
Harvard University $225,891
Jones Day $213,825
Google Inc $192,808
Time Warner $190,091
Morgan Stanley $190,026
Citadel Investment Group $173,950
Kirkland & Ellis $163,126
Latham & Watkins $160,842
WilmerHale LLP $155,788
Jenner & Block $151,447

A curious footnote, Goldman Sachs is the top contributor for pretty much every main candidate in both parties. Why is that?

A brief glance shows that it's more or less a "who's who" of landed American incorporated wealth. I'd suspect you'd find these names on most any candidate's list (though the numbers might vary).

What's the bold on National Amusements for?

Yep. Looks like my vote didn't matter (cue VOTE OR DIE from South Park).

fuck you, OH and RI. Right up the ass. At least Obama did well in the college counties in OH, as suspected. Guess he didn't do as good of a job campaigning elsewhere.

Jeusus Christ. When is this thing going to end? fucking Ohio, RI, and Texas. Again Texas and Ohio drop the ball. What do you have to do to fix those people? Texas gave us the likes of Ron Paul and Bush. Ohio screwed up an election and now this.

Well good for you. At least you canceled out someone else's vote. That's the only way I can look at it at this point. This tit for tat has to end sometime.

Gotta love the tone in her speech:

"Oh, well every other President has won Ohio....therefore I'm going to be President!!!11"

Uhhh, no, unless winning Ohio is a magic "Anti-Bitch" machine that somehow defies the laws of mathematics and erases that delegate deficit you have there. I can admire the determination, but I didn't see any decisive victory last night, particularly since Obama will be helping himself to about as many delegates in the Texas Primary as Clinton, but even MORE than her in the Texas Caucus, which yields 1/3 of the total delegates.

Meaning, Obama gets about 50% of 168 delegates from the primary, and then 70% of the remaining 60 or so.

In short, I didn't know you could consider your opponent widening his lead over you a "decisive victory".

PA is going to be tough for Obama to win, he really needs to go on the offensive with her, instead of having to defend himself for days before the election

Turning the corner into socialism...

Geez, I never thought I'd be rooting for Hillary, but Obama is so far left it's disgusting: he's the black reincarnation of McGovern.

I just hope Hillary and Obama both turn up the heat and spend lots of money on beating each other up... that'll be fun to watch.

Meanwhile we continue to talk about and get airtime for Dems, while Republican news is an absolute yawn (just look at that dopey thread where that guy tries to celebrate "Mccain wins Mccain wins" - as everyone rightly replies - yes we know and who cares?)

This close primary race is exactly what Dems need to take ownership of the issues.

Haha, there's no way Obama's winning Pennsylvania...it's right in between Ohio, New Jersey, and New York...all double-digit Hilary states...

That's the thing. He doesn't need to. He has a wide enough lead that Hillary would need to win by large margins in the rest of the states to pass him in the delagate count.

Go read Karl Marx and then read a few Obama speeches.

IMO, Hillary is a socialist, Obama is a bolshevick (they preached change a lot too), McCain is a liberal.

That's simply ridiculous to say, and just goes to show that you haven't read it yourself.

Why is it that everytime Hillary brings up a foreign policy issue that Obama goes right to the "I protested the Iraq war from the beginning" card. Do his campaign managers believe that one issue should write his ticket to the white house? Does he want a cookie?

And both of them with their "The people are ready for change from the Bush administration." Yet what kind of change? What are you proposing change to... other than the war in Iraq? Either they don't talk about it enough, or CNN, MSNBC, and Fox only show those clips.

The only issue I have heard championed at length is Hillary's crusade for national healthcare. Which terrifies me (depending on to what extent and how).

I am registered republican (I need SOMEBODY to to vote for in local elections), but that won't sway me either way. All 3 candidates are vastly different from the current administration. All I can say is, bring on the national debate already!!!

Hex and Msut77,
Instead of spouting glib comments and insulting those with whom you do not agree, why don't you focus on the content of the posts.

*Obama is far left: Per the National Journal, he was found to have the most "liberal" voting record among all the senators in 2007. Hillary is slightly less left leaning, thus I am rooting for her in the democratic primary. http://nj.nationaljournal.com/voteratings/

*The main ideas of the front running Democrats remind me of socialism: higher taxes to ostensibly redistribute wealth from rich to poor while creating class conflict, more government control and regulation, expanded government programs and therefore more spending... just look at his platform, Obama and his gov't would have a "solution" to everything. Look at his quotes: “The reason they don’t believe that government has a role in solving national problems is because they think government is the problem.” Yes, Obama, that is exactly what I believe. Plus he was heavily supported by the Chicago branch of the Democratic Socialists of America when he ran against Keyes.

The democrats can't even run a primary election well... [sarcastic voice] there's the popular vote and this gets you delegates who technically aren't pledged to follow the vote of the people and then there are the super-delegates, who are basically available to the highest bidder, then there are a few states like Michigan and Florida that don't even matter...[/sarcastic voice] This same nonsensical and overly complicated system is what we get whenever the gov't gets overly involved.

LOL @ the delegates in Texas being a wash because Obama served Hillary in the caucuses. Hillary only won 2 states last night, not 3 as she may claim.

Did you perhaps miss the part that my post was supposed to be a sensationalistic and sarcastic promotion of "Global Cooling" meant to be a foil for our current "Global Warming" hysteria. Plus your response was:

That article is a giant turd.

Kenneth Tapping and the National Climatic Data Center two of the "sources" are completely misrepresented.

How could I possibly rebut that eloquent argument? ;)
