demo kinda sucked, eh?

The hecticness of CoD2 was there, but it was almost too hectic-- I didn't feel like I really had to kill anyone. also, the crouching/standing system is an ordeal in itself. I don't understand why it has to be toggle-able. That works on the 360, but not so much on the PC.
a

I think the problem is that it has game mechanics from the first cod except that it is in modern time. Basically its run here step in glowing circle. Complete objective. Lather rinse repeat.

Yeah, the feeling of weight behind the guns is the biggest thing an FPS has to get right. Halo does, Half Life does, Killzone does not. Almost any B-list publisher FPS does not. Call of Duty 2 certainly did have that feeling, especially with the single shot rifles, but IDK about Call of Duty 4.

One FPS that I didn't enjoy shooting dudes in was Perfect Dark Zero. That game sucked hard. I don't care what people say about its multiplayer. There were much better FPS's out when it was released. The dying animations were terrible. I've never cared for the Call of Duty series, mainly because I'm sick of WWII FPS's.

One thing I've always wanted was Virtua Cop or Time Crisis with the location specific damage and exploding heads and body parts of House of the Dead. Imagine shooting some criminals in Virtua Cop and having their heads explode and blowing arms off.

UT3 will own. I got a friend hooked on it and he tries to get me to play online almost every day.

This weekend, I will be playing The Orange Box, some UT3 demo online, and probably some Tekken 5 DR and Third Strike.

agreed. shooting armor off enemies in PDZ was dumb. and even when they had no armor, they still took 500 shots to kill.

Viva Pinata is the best thing Rare has made since probably the original perfect dark. Microsoft really over paid for them.
Viva Pinata is the best thing Rare has made since probably the original perfect dark. Microsoft really over paid for them.
Nah, they've been pretty medicore since after Donkey Kong Country 2 on the SNES, with the possible exception of Goldeneye.
Nah, they've been pretty medicore since after Donkey Kong Country 2 on the SNES, with the possible exception of Goldeneye.
I definitely agree. I liked KI games and DKC3, but outside of that, Rare just isn't what they use to be IMO.

I didn't like Viva Pinata at all though.

Well, played more PGR4 and as you can see, my gamerscore is going up because of the game. :)
Nah, they've been pretty medicore since after Donkey Kong Country 2 on the SNES, with the possible exception of Goldeneye.
Eh, I still liked Donkey Kong Country 3... but since then... yeah, haven't done anything great.

You need it. You should be ashamed of that score!

Well, mine's not much better.

I still think that gamerscore is something that is inflated in peoples heads. Yes I know I have some. But I dont play games to get the achivements.

I just dont understand the allure of them. It does not mean someone is a better gamer then you, it just means they like to play more xbox games then you do.

I've never met anyone who looks at gamerscores being a measure of skill or anything.. I'm pretty sure everyone is well aware that they're meaningless.
You need it. You should be ashamed of that score!

Well, mine's not much better.
Haha, I've had my 360 over a year now and my score is quite low. At the end of last year, I was 1215. I don't really try getting achievements, and I really don't have much of a 360 collection (I only have 8 disc based games and around 8-9 XBLA games). I still have Blue Dragon unopened. Plan to get Beautiful Katamari and DDR Universe 2 by the end of the year (I'm probably just going to get Eternal Sonata on PS3 instead next year due to having no time to play it until May 2007). I was hoping to be at 3000 by the end of the year though.

The only game where I've actively tried to get all the achievement points was SOTN, and that's only because it's one of my favorite games of all time. Unfortunately, there's nothing else on the system that's compelling enough to bother doing that with.

achievements are ok, I usually just play games to play them, the only games I did play with the only intent is to get the achievements for where madden 08 and halo 3, both of which not even achievement points could make me play those. nothing about them drew me into playing/made me want to play. but that's my opinion.

playing phantom hourglass and ace attorney phoenix wright, can't wait until next week when ace attorney 3 comes out.
It gives you something to aim for and it's a nice pat on your back when you do so.
Yeah, exactly. But I think it's a little overboard when someone thinks we look at them as a status symbol.
Yeah, exactly. But I think it's a little overboard when someone thinks we look at them as a status symbol.
Yeah, I agree, or buy mediocre games with easy achievements just to inflate a gamer score (like Bomberman Act Zero).

Anyway, I played some DiRT on PS3 and really sucked. It could have been because I was playing GT5 Prologue demo on PS3 earlier (great game).

achievements are so so.. I was obsessed with those things till I picked up a PS3 and realized I lost focus on why gaming was fun... just enjoying the games was harder due to that nack in the back of my brain wanting to try and get that one achievement.

as for what I'm playing... EEEE or Every Extend Extra Extreme... it's superbly better than the PSP version.

What say you about PGR4, Mana? I finished Orange Box and Bioshock this week so I might pick it up. Bioshock has a disappointing ending and diminishing returns as the game carries on. Not GOTY. That is reserved for Galaxy.

I love achievements but I'm over the achievement whoring stuff. The only games I played for that were the first 360 madden and College Hoops 2k7. I actually had a good time in College Hoops because I made a near photorealistic version of one of my friends who was one of the best players on the team at our college, then made him a dunking monster and we laughed at that.

I played project sylpheed some more.. mindless shooting but I like watching the smoke trails of missiles, then Legendary Halo 3. Good God it's awesome. I managed to destroy a pack of 4 brutes, including a chieftain, who were all underneath a grunt running a turret levitating above them, then run over and destroyed a phantom guarded by two grunts on turrets, and two grunts on ghosts. This was at the section of Installation 00 right before you destroy the AA guns and the Dawn comes flying in overhead (jaw dropping, that moment as well) The weird thing is I seem to remember on heroic there were no ghosts, less brutes, and there were marine reinforcements for this section driving warthogs around. Legendary really changes the game.

It was a godlike run and one of those Halo moments where everything just gets so intense that you almost have to stop to breathe afterwards. I love how well balanced Legendary is in Halo 3, it's as much fun as Halo 1 was to play.
I agree with this, it gives you something to shoot for and adds replay value to games. Although I also agree that some people take them way too far and make it seem like if their gamer score is higher then yours they are so L33t and what not. I don't play games just for the achievements, nor do I buy shitty games to raise my gamer score. If I really like a game, I'll take a look at the achievements and try and get them. If I don't get all of them no big deal, but I like that it can add replay value to games I really enjoy.
Same. My score is ridiculously low because I don't play games FOR the achievements, but will pick them up if I can.
What say you about PGR4, Mana?
I'm having a tough time deciding what I think about it and how I'd rank it. Being a big fan of the MSR/PGR series, I like the game, but it's really hard to say if it's as good as I was hoping.

I'm very glad the game has more variety than PGR3 and definitely seems a bit longer, which has me happy. I also think motorcycles are cool and glad they were added. Tracks are also really good and I like the weather effects. The game feels more refined when compared to 3. Being able to buy a crapload of stuff with kudos points is kind of cool. Some of the multi-player modes seem cool, but I have yet to play online or with a friend (I'll play a friend next week).

Although I think the stars is kind of cool with the new Kudos system, I'm just not enjoying it as much as the original ones, possibly because I got more points for doing things (I could be wrong). The difficulty doesn't feel as smooth to me with Arcade mode, because some races feel really easy, and some feel pretty tough and annoying (I default at silver medal, but will go higher if I can). Compared to PGR2 though, arcade feels a bit on the short side, but I enjoy destroying my buddies in rankings. ;)

I'm kind of mixed about Career mode. It's all right so far, but to an extent, I preferred how it was handled in other PGR games. Still, I have a long ways to go with it and I'll probably like it more as soon as I play it.

Without a doubt, I'm kind of addicted to the game and my 360 play time has gone up quite a bit because of the game. It may not have been 100% what I wanted, but it's still another great PGR IMO. I say it's better than PGR3 overall, but I still need more time to warm up to this I still prefer PGR2 so far).

This will be the game that will decide how quickly I renew my XBL, because it expires in early November (I might not get back on until Christmas unfortunately. If I get a good deal, things may change). :whistle2:( With the closest one being my best friend in real life just getting a 360 (I helped him setup XBL over the phone today) will make me buy more games to play with him on my 360 (although he's not looking to continue on XBL Gold, so I'll try to play with him as much as possible).

So, not stellar, but okay. Everyone's saying that and I'm probably just getting a stupid itch for a game I don't need, but it looks so good. Maybe I'd be better off with getting a $13 used copy of PGR3.. I played through most of the career on that, but stopped with some of the later races.
I bought Singstar 80s. Holy shit who knew that game was an incredible amount of fun.
I badly want SingStar, but to an extent, I rarely play my PS2 and would rather wait for SingStar on PS3 (partially because I don't have a music game yet on PS3 and would love HD graphics). It sucks it won't be out until next year, but oh well.

I love Karaoke games. :D

played a lot of forza 2 last night and it just keeps getting me hooked. I haven't been this into a racing game since PGR2 on the xbox.

other than that, playing phantom hourglass on the ds, and I may start playing bioshock up again since I badly need to finish it.
Gamebanshee posted impressions of The Witcher, and since I'm banking on that game kicking the shit out of the majority of games coming out this fall, here's the link:

sounds like good stuff. I hope there's a demo.

Speaking of RPGs, I'm gonna try and snag a $5 copy of Titan Quest at Target today. Because playing Oblivion, Persona 3, and FFXII isn't enough.

I stopped by E 4 All yesterday... Got to play some games...

Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots
Super Mario Galaxy

Are both my picks for Game of Show...

Im not sure if you heard but the ps3 version was delayed "indefinetly". Take that with a grain of salt. The only problem I have with the ps3 version is that they could potentially charge way to much for songs you download.

Finished Bioshock with the "good ending", but still need to go back and take care of some things (one more big daddy, some audio diaries). Finally loaded up the Castle download on Oblivion after having it for three days and messed around with it.

I'd pass on Titan Quest. I thought it'd be a good Diablo-style game but it's ultra-repetitive and never interesting at all. The entire game looks sooooooo generic. Or at least, what I played of it. Bored me to def.

Though I would recommend Divine Divinity. It's older and 2D, but it still looks damn good and it's one of my favorite games on the PC.

Being delayed just put the U.S. version back. I heard it's suppose to already include a lot of songs initially on the disc, but you'll be able to download other music. Most PSN downloads are reasonably priced anyway, so I'm not worried. I believe most of the songs from previous SingStars will be downloadable, so I can just buy the ones I really want.

Plus, playing on my PS2 just doesn't look too pretty on my HDTV. :whistle2:(

I have 6 preorders I have to pick up Wednesday (well 5, one of them is coming from Amazon)...

It's all about the Ace Combat 6 though. I can't wait for that game. Been huge fan of that series since AC2. Online is going to kick so much ass.

I can't justify $60 for an ace combat game. I love them, but I've never paid over $20 for one.

Who knew that XBox 360 would screw me even on the shivering isles content? It works the same way as XBLA games, can't use content from one hard drive on another system without being signed into live. Well, there's $30 down the toilet. It's the FUTURE!

I'm paying $150 (minus my employee discount) for mine. Getting the version with the flightstick.

The AC games I get far more hours of playtime out of than almost every other game I play except for maybe the Dynasty/Samurai Warriors games. Add in the fact that there's online play, and I'll easily get my money's worth out of it.

ultra-repetitive is like the motto of dungeon crawlers

I got the demo, haven't installed it yet. also trying to install Diablo II on my new pc, but my dumb ass left the cd-keys at home.

Played Halo3 local co-op campaign last night with my friends. Fun stuff, but only had two controllers because the other guys are not as into gaming as I am and won't buy 360s or PS3s for themselves.

The parts I played myself were fun, but watching others play gave me motion sickness after a while. :p

Well play the Divine Divinity demo too just cause. I promise it's good, even though the name is retarded.

And in other news, it looks like The Witcher's US release is going to be censored, but fear not! There's the UK version available from Gogamer.com (same release date.) What'd they cut from the US version? All dem titties.

However, I'm going to be waiting for a few price drops to get AC6, if I decide to get it.

My problem is that although I loved the series since the first, here's my history:
Air Combat -Only played a few missions.
Ace Combat 2 - Only played two missions, but that was before I was a flight fan.
Ace Combat 3 - Never bought, considered.
Ace Combat 4 - Got around 80% complete.
Ace Combat 5 - Stopped at Mission 4-5
Ace Combat Zero - Stopped at Mission 5-6
Ace Combat X- Played only 5 or 6 missions and stopped.

Although AC is great and all, with me barely playing them, spending $60 on another just doesn't seem like a good idea right now, especially when I don't have lots of money to spend like I have in the past.

I saw a used SingStar microphone at Gamestop today for $9.99. Almost bought it, since I can buy the games itself cheap.

I'm still tempted to get PSU for 360 (priced at $17 at CC); however, although I liked the beta, there's a 95% guarantee I'll barely play it, so I'll probably pass.

Looks like I won't be finishing Etrian Odyssey before the fall gaming onslaught begins. Not that I really expected to. Probably the most worthwhile $30 I've spent on a game in a long time though.

So what is it that brings you back to Etrian Odyssey? I tried it and it felt like a Shin Megami Tensei game without any of SMT's good qualities. Felt very, very bland and generic, and I got the impression that they just threw the crazy difficulty level in there to try and distinguish the game from everything else.

I burned myself out after about 20 hours or so when I first got it (I don't think I made it to the 10th floor by then). Picked it back up after the sequel announcement and have played another 20 hours or so since. Once you get to a point where you don't feel like every battle could decimate your party, and you start to get into some much more in-depth exploration, it's just addicting. I'm sure if you don't get sucked into it by the exploration and mapping aspect, you might get bored of it, but I can no longer get enough.

I'm now on the 17th floor after 40 or 5 hours, following lots of grinding when I brought some new characters up to speed. They managed to throw some plot progression in at this point, so there's still new stuff being thrown at you. I think the end boss is on the 25th floor, with some post-game stuff below that.

I cannot stop playing the E4 demo for Xbox LIVE. I must have played thru it twenty times already. I reeeally should just buy the game already.

I keep waiting for some kinda message to popup on my screen and be like:

"WTF? You Obviously LOVE this game! Just BUY it you cheap Bastard!!!"

Im actually starting to feel guilty about not buying the game at this point.

Then again, Ive played prolly 100,000 games of Snood on every PC Ive ever had and Ive never bought that...

Oh wow, Snood. That brings back good memories of heated high score battles between me and my brother. Now that I have mouse for my laptop I can play it again...

I'm currently playing Oblivion on my 360. I can already tell this game is massive.
