"THIEF! I cut off your hands!" No, Monsieur! I need them to post in Gaming Thread 10!
Yeesh, I spent two hours last night doing mindless mayhem in Crackdown. Shooting out tires and gas is just endlessly amusing. As is throwing cars with their drivers inside into the ocean. Man I hope they make a sequel as it would be interesting to see how many cars will persistenly stay in the ocean after I throw 'em in. :p
forgot to say but I started reading a feature article on the development cycle of crackdown in Game Developer magazine and wow... they went through hell. Alot of the renderware stuff held them back but they were forced into using it halfway through making the game... expect part 2 to be way better all round.

Haven't posted in this thread in forever.

Playing Beautiful Katamari right now. Rented TH: Proving Ground (360) from Gamefly, got it yesterday. Played it for about 30 minutes and then promptly sent it back. Terribly disappointing. At least BK is good.

Feel like I have nothing to play right now single-player wise. Hoping that Gamefly sends me Orange Box or Jericho, as I'd really like to play through either of them.

playing through bioshock still on my first run. chances are I won't finish until next week due to tests.

Other than that, rune factory, contact and zelda: PH are keeping me busy on the ds until my psp slim comes in this week.

Popped GrimGrimoire in my neglected PS2 for a bit, since I've owned it for three months and haven't gotten a feel for it yet. Luckily it looks like resource management will be very basic, and combat isn't bad. I'm not thrilled with the "select all of type" controls, since they don't actually select all, but probably something to get used to.

Not gonna bother playing anything else because Wednesday is a toss-up between Phoenix Wright and Zack & Wiki. Getting both, just need to pick one to start. Probably gonna be Z&W, since I know what I'm getting with PW3.

Thanks, RR! So they really are making a sequel? I read somewhere that it wasn't even being considered. That's awesomely awesome news if true!

I will be picking up PW3 this week, but chances are it will stay sealed for a while on account that I need to START PW2, plus i'm also occupied with zelda: PH, contact and rune factory, plus I still have jeanne d' arc sealed along with disgaea afternoon of darkness coming out next week, and dragon quest monsters joker coming out the next week.

Played Folklore for about four hours the other night. Wow I am not much of an RPG person, but I really like this game. I am using Ellen and will finish her story first, before I move onto Keats. I'll probably start it up again later tonight once some tv shows are over. Definitely one of the PS3s better games..

Playing Dead Rising now, pretty damn hard game... and I consider myself a fairly experienced player. I'm not too used to this kind of gameplay, though (I suppose nobody was: it's extremely unique).

Also playing a bit of Halo when I have the time for it... I guess everyone else has moved on from that one by now. xD

I played 2-3 hours straight of Every Extend Extra Extreme... man that game is fucking nuts... I finally got the whole concept of the beats per minute timing bonuses and how to do them... all I need are 4 achevements now for the game...

So E4 is a must buy? Have the points, but there are bunch of interesting shmups in the pipe I'll probably pick up.

Just got beat by 3 in a game of Madden. Lost on a deep bomb to Steve Smith in the back of the endzone with seconds left.

I just wish EA would focus on the little things next year now that they have a solid base for this gen. I really have a love-hate relationship with this game.

I've had a love hate with the game every year since 2004 when they introduced playmaker and the fact that QB's could actually scramble.

I bought 2007 for $10 to get achievements and sold it for $15 the same week.

Yeah, sometimes I don't even understand why I keep coming back to it every year when I know there's gonna be something new that just frustrates the crap outta me. You'd think EA could get it right and listen to what the fanbase has to say. There's nothing like the competition of online, though (when it's not a lag fest).

I, for one, would love to see the Highlight stick completely gone or at least toned down. Because we all know that John Lynch is an ankle-breaking specialist, right? There's so many other things wrong with 08 as well that I don't even want to mention.

that and Highlight stick + ledanian tomilson = god in football player form

Orange Box = Game of the Year.

I can't remember how long it's been since I had as much fun with a game as I did with Portal and HL2 ep 2.

I think PGR4 might be the best looking game on the system. The photo mode shots that the NeoGAF guys are posting are absurd. Photorealistic. I love this game. I love making drifts and missing the inside barrier by inches and narrowly making the inside line on a bike vs car race. I haven't enjoyed a racing game this much since the first PGR.

Sorry, but GT5 definitely does look better whether you want to admit it or not.

These were too large to post in the thread, but that last one especially is stunning, and of a similar course style to gran turismo. That game is just a tedious job anyway. I hate all that micromanagement. Did they get around to modeling car damage or fixing the bumper car gameplay by the fifth game? I was so dissapointed in 3 (I bought a PS2 for that game) that I haven't played it since.

Whatever, I don't care if you admit it or not, I'm just saying it does and that's truth.

The only objective part being about it is PGR4 being on a MS console and GT being on a Sony console, hence why you can't accept it.

GT car models look better than PGR4, but PGR4 has nicer enviroments and weather for the moment.

GT still has a long way to go.

We're barely at the demo, of a demo for GT5.
It will improve much.

Maybe if the graphical styles were different you could argue that, but as far as I know they aren't.

In any case, I honestly don't care. I won't buy either games since I'm not big into racing games unless "Burnout" is in the title. Stay ignorant and enjoy.

If you had read my post instead of assuming I was throwing the gauntlet down on GT5's graphics and the PS3 in general, you'd see that I haven't once commented on GT5's graphics. The comparisons and arguing have been all your own. PS3 owners are so defensive.
Visuals are purely objective, especially on two high end high definition projects like this.

Edit: And you used the word incorrectly in your snarky reply.
Fixed.

Both car models look great, but GT has the edge at the moment.
Interiors are much more closely matched, the paints and textures are matched to the real life counterparts.

Heck, even in one of the german cars in some screenshot, it was tuned to a famous German radio station.
Attention to detail award goes to Polyphony.

Backgrounds in PGR4 have me salivating however. Michelin man looks so great.
And the car models are excellent regardless.

I'm done with this conversation since I already said I don't care.

In other news, Ratchet and Clank got a 9.0 from Gametrailers, can't wait to get it!

Also I've been playing LAIR again, I wish more games were this epic or had battles on the same scale. Just about every level in LAIR can be considered epic, the music is epic, the battles are epic, if only they tweaked the controls a bit more. Ah well.

Yeah, the car models do look better, something about their translucency or texture that feels more tactile than PGR4. PGR4 doesn't look as realistic, but it's not as realistic of a game, either. More stylized. And the environments are just incredible. People have spotted their own apartment buildings and places they walk past in the New York races, for instance.

I think this thread needs some help.

Objective = a universal truth
Subjective = someone's opinion

Thus, someone's opinion on a game is subjective, and thus couldn't be a fact. Carry on.

Jer, that's cool about the package. Take your time. I'm so busy with school and stuff that I wouldn't have had time to look at it yet anyway.

I started a new game yesterday called "Try and see if you can get rid of Microsoft Office." I installed Open Office 2.3 and got Thunderbird all jazzed up with Lightning. I haven't uninstalled MS Office yet but it's been kind of a fun (=nerdy) time. It's kinda wild trying to learn all sorts of new software all at once. ;) I'm finding myself using Google a lot for OO because I can't find the options I want, not because they're hard to find, but Word's horrendously stupid setting placement has destroyed my ability to think about such things.

Well consider me an idiot. I went to school for drawring, not writing.

Open Office is good. It's what I used for a lot of my schooling.

While I wait to get my Steam account back I'll be playing Okami.

I like the combat, the brush is a great way to mix it up. I really like the graphical style... a lot. When you see a brush stroke appear at the edge of a hill, it really shows how amazing this art style is. At first I thought it looked like Viewtiful Joe but the more I played it the more the paint and brush style popped out at me.

you've...got...to school...wait, what?! that sentence just killed my brain
you've...got...to school...wait, what?! that sentence just killed my brain
The irony is too great for me to comprehend given the context.

So, how 'bout those games, eh?

Played more Twilight Princess. Game is amazing. I also find it hard because I hated OoT when I was younger. Go Figure.

it was such a poorly written sentence that only a writer or slidecage could come up with it.

I don't play videogames. they're for children and the children of children.

Played Folklore last night for about a good six hours. The best way to play the game to understand the story better is to play one chapter with Ellen, and then once you finish that chapter play a chapter with Keats. Luckily I wasn't that far into the game when I noticed this (I was only starting the third chapter). I heard you can beat the game in 13 hours, but I have already surpassed that time. I really like trying to get all the folks and leveling them up and myself. It becomes addicting as I stayed in one part of the Netherworld for a good hour or so just killing folks and leveling up.

Great game and probably the first action/adventure rpg I have enjoyed this year. I'll definitely be keeping this game and adding her to the ol collection. Also in this game I think they perfected the motion controls, they aren't a pain to use and are really enjoyable. Besides Heavenly Sword this is the second game I felt that they did the motion controls great. Too bad Lair couldn't be like this and not be an over kill with the controls.

Came into work this morning and found a copy of Orange Box 360 waiting for me. Yay! Something new to play after I see "Finishing The Game" tonight.

BTW, in PGR4 Career mode, the Invitational to win that 50s racer by getting fastest time on the Nurburgring...in the snow...SUCKS.
Something new to play after I see "Finishing The Game" tonight.
Hey, is that movie any good? I think I'll have to buy it since Hollywood Video probably won't carry it for rental.

Breeze Lo. Mwa hahahhahhaahah

Just put in an order with Gamestop for Castlevania Dracula X Chronicles.

They changed the figure to a Castlevania 2 Belmont. Kinda neat I guess. :)

I dunno, I guess I'll find out tonight.

Tomorrow needs to get here so I can start playing a game again... too much free time is leading to reading an excessive amount of Mario Galaxy impressions, which may drive me insane. Note to self: don't stop to look if Mario is playing on the demo kiosk at GameStop tomorrow. Pay for PW3 and Z&W and leave quickly.

might play some phantom hourglass or rune factory in a little bit, other than that I have a paper that I'm working on (rough draft due on friday) and a review session from 10pm to 1am tonight. school stuff sucks.

With all the fires going on in San Diego I can't focus on any games as I have the news/radio on in the background for the latest updates...

This is a big gaming week too... :(

Thinking about packing up some stuff and bringing it to a secure storage location just in case...

yeah, that sucks man.Sorry.Alot of people are coming to Yuma and most of our motels are full.I thnk it was 15000 people are here the radio said.

I haven't heard anything about that.

what exactly is causing the fires?
