1) That's like saying that playing Guitar Hero increases your guitar skills, because you're mimicking the same motions to an extent that a real guitarist would use. It's the same argument as "learning to play DDR makes you into a good dancer." Wrong. What it might do is give you better rhythm, and you might get used to moving your legs around independently of one another, but it's not going to turn you into an awesome dancer. Just like Guitar Hero won't turn you into a guitarist, and Rock Band won't turn you into a drummer.
So I don't buy it at all. Again, it might prove to be a good tutorial, and it will definitely give people some fundamentals, but a kid playing some song on expert isn't going to get into a band the next day.
2) A real drummer failing at a song proves absolutely nothing. I guarantee you that if you took guitarists and sat them down wtih Guitar Hero, they'd have some trouble, even though they can pull of much, much more complex things with a real instrument. Hell, much-more-musically-inclined-people-than-me suck at Guitar Hero.
It's a game for a reason. There's almost no honest simulation there.
guitar hero will teach you nothing about the guitar. I know someone who wails on guitar and he couldn't play guitar hero to save his life. the most it will help you with, is potentially teaching you strumming rhythm, and that's not counting finger picking or anything else that goes with it. the *chord* hand is nothing like a real guitar. Drumming, on the other hand uses the the same motions and setup as the rockband drumkit. the biggest difference would be more drums in a real drumkit, or actual cymbols or high-hats. again, you play this game and get good enough at it, i bet you dollars to donuts you could outdrum meg white.
again, the point here is off, since playing the guitar in guitar hero only shares the ability of strumming a rhythm in common, and not even so much then, since you can't pick single strings, palm mute, or anything of the sort. Forming chords, barring chords and the like are nothing like the guitar experience in these games. however, if you sit at a real drumkit and then sit at the rockband one, surprise, you have a kick pedal on both and at least for skins to hit on both. rockband drums are closer to real drums by leaps and bounds over these rhythm games approximation of the guitar.
