I haven't liked a rasslin' game since the n64 era. When they start making games like those again, I'll probably pick one up (even though I don't watch any)
What was so bad about SvR2008?
I couldn't stand playing it more than twice. The out-dated roster was annoying, the wrong moves for people, the load times. It really seemed like a step back from 2007 to me. I know they tried to add something new to the mix with the fighting styles, but those imo just took away from things because you used to be able to do all of that with one character.
God, they could just put No Mercy on a disc, with new rosters and online play, and I would buy it.
There was a rumor a few months ago about it being updated and released via WiiWare, but I wouldn't put a whole lot of money on that happening.
Just bland on so many levels, the roster was awful (and tiny), and the cutscenes in career mode were awful (high-fiving the guy you're feuding with?).
Nothing to get excited about: Smackdown vs Raw 2009: Same Shit, Different Year.
Though if they do a WWF Legends title w/ like Razor Ramon and Demolition and other guys, I'm all in favor of it.
Besides the cutscenes, I didn't mind it too much. Then again I didn't pay full price and I enjoy a good rasslin' game every once in awhile. My favorite was when I would beat the hell out of some asshole for 30 minutes, do 5 finishers and put them through both announcer tables and when the finishing cutscene after match would show my guy hurt and the King saying, "He really got his ass beat" or something to that effect. The roster, I guess I am easy to please. They had The Rock, Stone Cold, Mic Foley and Batista. Pretty much after that I couldn't careless who I was using to inflict pain on some jobber. I know I got my $20 worth.
I wonder if we'll ever see any of the older wrestling games on XBLA/PSN/VC, I'd love to see one of the old N64 games or the Sega CD game Rage in the Cage released.
WWE Games will probably not show up on the VC.. because they are WWF on the N64 and I don't think AKI will go back and change that... maybe we'll get WcW vs nWo revenge.. but that is hoping a lot
(2nd paragraph they say it'll be "formally announced tomorrow")
Main points:
-Focus is on tag teams (co-op story) and "hot tags"
-Create a Finisher is added
-These guys are confirmed
Chris Jericho, Jeff Hardy, Matt Hardy, Randy Orton, Mr. Kennedy, Undertaker and John Cena
-It'll most likely be online on the Wii
-DLC is a big possiblity
Nice find on that link. But, I take it with caution because they always do a good job of hyping the game and when you finally get to play it, its just a steaming pile of .
It'll be interesting to see if they actually do anything with DLC, or if it ends up being one new character released and then the next game comes out.
Also, I find it ironic that the focus is on overhauling the tag-team aspects, when they couldn't do more to bury them on TV. Half the actually teams were recently buried by the main eventers in handicap matches last week, the tag titles are worth about as much as the cruiserweight belt, and the only time you get a tag match on tv nowadays is when they pair up two main eventers against two others.
Honestly, I find it amazing that no one seems capable of making a decent wrestling game. I really wanted to like Legends of Wrestling, because of the old wrestler focus, but obviously that was an incredibly flawed game. I've hated the Smackdown series in recent years, if for nothing else, because of the incredibly long load times. It just made playing the game a chore.
elwood - seriously if you have a N64, check out WWF No Mercy, WWF Wrestlemania 2000, WcW vs nWo Revenge, or WcW vs nWo world tour.. or if you have a GameCube, check out Def Jam Vendetta. AKI made all of these games and the grappling system is easy and fun..
SVR08 was a big letdown for me. The rosters were bad. I bought it for PS3 and the load times were terrible. I think the game installed on the HD (not sure) and they were still long. Not as bad as Smackdown 2, but still pretty long. The story mode was terrible and really didn't make sense. It really seems like they're not even trying. The online for PS3 was bad. No mics and 99% of the time you can't use a created wrestler unless he's bland as . I don't have high hopes for 09 either.
Now, I only paid $20 for it, but I found 2008 to be way more playable than 2007. To me, 2008 felt like the first 'real' next-gen Smackdown. Now, did it have flaws? Yeah, but it's what we have and, like I said, it's still a step up from 2007.
For reference, I generally call 2006 the best of the series.
Anyway, I'm hoping, and assuming, that DLC will be wrestlers. I'd love to have roster updates every once in a while. Would've been great for this year, since we could get Jericho and Show, but hey. Since that seems to smart, though, I have to think that the DLC will be something like extra outfits.

Agreed with 06 being the best SvR so far, and 07 just being the worst (haven't tried 08 so I can't make a judgement on that)
I can see why people don't like 2008. They keep making the same game over, and over. It is updated with extras that is all it is from year to year. I think they should redo the whole game. As far as Tna I'm waiting to see how it is. It will be either really good or really awful.
