Ubisoft announced today that its TMNT video game, based on the upcoming CGI feature-length film starring the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, is being developed for the Xbox 360 instead of the Xbox as originally announced. The game is being created by Ubisoft developers in its world-class Montreal and Quebec City studios and will be available at retail stores nationwide March 13, 2007, just ahead of the release of the feature-length film on March 23.

The new TMNT video game uses the same dark and dangerous environments and adventurous themes featured in the new TMNT CGI film being developed by Imagi Animation Studios and Mirage Licensing. The TMNT movie takes place in a New York City plagued by secretive villains and strange, otherworldly creatures.

Faced with these perils, the Turtles will experience their most trying time as heroes and as a family, as Raphael, Donatello and Michelangelo lose their focus and struggle to maintain their unity and ninja discipline.

Features Include:
 • Intense Ninja Fighting: Harness the power of Ninjitsu and become a master of combat. Leonardo, Raphael, Donatello and Michelangelo are playable and each have unique acrobatic moves, weapons and combat skills, such as Michelangelo's fast nunchuck face slap and Raphael's powerful Sai throw.
 • Unique Acrobatic Navigation: The Turtles jump from rooftop to rooftop, scale tall buildings, dive into sewers and race through every corner of the city to confront their enemies.
 • Powerful Tag-Team Moves: Together the Turtles can team up to reach locations unattainable alone, or defeat the enemy.
 • Diverse Enemies and Bosses: Characters from the movie and the original comic book series - including the Purple Dragon Street Gang and the infamous Foot Clan - and a whole new group of enemies creep out of the shadows to face the Turtles.

In the movie and in the highly immersive video game adventure, it's up to Leonardo and the faithful father figure Splinter to reunite the band of brothers and save New York City from a monstrous evil that lurks around every corner. Video game players will engage in over-the-top acrobatic navigation, collaborative combat and powerful fighting moves.

"The TMNT movie is all about the emotions associated with family and teenage angst," said Nick Harper, creative director of the TMNT game at Ubisoft's Montreal development studio. "We've taken that philosophy and turned it into gameplay mechanics that will be fun and challenging. The direction for the all new TMNT movie and game is a darker, more realistic Turtle experience. Gamers will embody all four Turtles from the big screen to engage in over-the-top action sequences and intense ninja combat. We think this game will appeal to kids, teens and adults alike."

I'm really looking forward to this, from reading the press release it looks promising, plus Ubisoft is one of my favorite developers.

I just pray for a TMNT game that plays like the NES and SNES games, and not the crap Konami pushed out last generation.

The movie could be decent, but I have little hope for the game. The screenshots aren't too impressive.
Slightly off topic: is this franchise even remotely popular still? I can't exactly see their surf-bum lingo holding up after all these years. Let it be known that the first child I hear yell "cowabunga" is getting drop-kicked down a large flight of stairs.

i hope it is good, but all of the ubi games I have gotten for the 360 so far have had major glitch issues in the single player (far cry, ghost recon) I have started to loose a lot of respect for the products they put out.

When I was a kid, me and my friend ate ice cream on our pizza to prove we were hardcore TMNT fans. Those were the days...
Dear Microsoft. Please put the TMNT Arcade Game on XBox Live Arcade to go along with this release. Thank you. -KaneRobot
Konami would need to buy rights to redistribute the TMNT arcade games.

In addition to it not being up to Microsoft, it's also never going to happen.
is the new cartoon still showing on fox kids on saturdays...
Yes, I've lost track of them but they were actually pretty good. The show its on its 4th season now and changed direction from the previous three and is no called: TMNT Fast Forward info can be found at this Wiki
looks like the textures are terrible.
Its a work in progress, It will most likely get polished.

They included it as a bonus in TMNT 2 so I don't think it is out of the realm of possibility. Sometimes companies just license movie rights and not the rights to franchises.

Also Sarah Michelle Gellar is going to be April and Kevin Smith has a cameo in case anyone was interested.

Casey Jones stopped hitting the gym bag and started hitting the KrispyKreme box?

i'm really pumped for both the new game and the movie. the movie more so.

its suppose to be alot darker, being influenced more by the comic book than the cartoons. no shredder in the first movie either. if it does well, he'll be in the sequel

edit: i saw a rough gameplay video of this awhile ago, and it looked great. it really takes into account moving/fighting like a ninja.

The first movie was pretty dark, moreso than how this new one looks I would say.

Kevin Smith, huh?

I think he is supposed to be some cook or something like that. I read it over at IGN.

Isn't the entire movie CGI, though? He could play anyone--looks don't matter.

He should be Baxter Stockman.

EDIT: Oh wait, I think Baxter is black in the newer cartoons, so that's probably a no go.

The graphics look pretty bad.. although the press release does mention that it was recently moved from an xbox project to a 360 project. That would mean that anything created for the game wouldn't be up to 360 caliber.

The real question is if we're going to see them lazily stay with the old assets or will they beef it up to 360 standards?

I didn't know that Konami didn't have the rights anymore, since the last game to come out was a Konami game. However, you're right in that the type of deal it is depends on if it's a possibility. It wouldn't take much for a deal to get done.
not to sound like a dick, but does any one even care about this game?
I didn't care until I saw who was developing it: Ubisoft Montreal

Ya'know, the developers who, at their best, made Rainbow Six: Las Vegas, Prince of Persia, and Splinter Cell, and at their worst, Far Cry for the consoles. I'll give them the benefit of the doubt.

The new Play magazine has this game as the cover story. They are making both current gen and 360 versions. But they said that the 360 versions would be beefed up noticeably, with higher polygon counts and such. Only thing that worries me about this game is they only had 12 months to make it. Which now a days is tight. Hopefully they don't cut corners. Base on Ubisoft Montreal past offerings, this should be a good product though.

Actually Baxter is black in the comics too.
