So with 2009 having just a couple of days days left and all major movies have come out, it is safe to start picking the best movies of 2009. So what was everyone's favorite movies of 2009?

Here is my list:

1. Inglourious Basterds
2. The Road
3. Star Trek
4. District 9
5. Zombieland

Honorable Mentions:

Avatar
500 Days of Summer
Taken
Gomorra
(US Release)
Watchmen
Observe and Report
The Hangover
Funny People

1. The Hangover
2. The Hangover
3. The Hangover
4. The Hangover
5. The Hangover

Honorable Mentions:
The Hangover
The Hangover
The Hangover
The Hangover
The Hangover

1. District 9
2. This is It
3. Up
4. Coraline

These are the only 2009 releases I saw. Very shitty year at the movies for stuff I was interested in.

I've seen plenty of movies this year, but I can just think of 4 that were truly great:

Inglorious Basterds
Star Trek
Watchmen
Zombieland

Still need to see Up. Everything else, meh to suckage to overrated/hyped. For example, District 9, Avatar, etc. Last year was much, much better.

In no particular order:

-District 9
-Inglourious Basterds
-Up
-This Is It
-Watchmen

Also very enjoyable were Avatar, The Hangover, Away We Go, Zombieland, and (500) Days of Summer.

I've yet to see Star Trek or The Road.

Inglorious Basterds
Star Trek
Up
Taken
The Hangover
Adventureland
Zombieland

I didn't get to see alot of the stuff I wanted to this year, so this is the best of what I saw.

In whatever order you want:
Up
Adventureland
Star Trek
Watchmen
Inglourious Basterds

I still need to see a few things but those should be the top 5.

Still have tons I need to see. The only ones I've seen I feel worthy of listing are:

Inglorious Basterds
Up
Star Trek

Some others I thought were ok were Adventureland, Watchmen, Public Enemies, Taken, Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince--but not stuff that would make my top 5 (or top 10) once I get caught up.

didnt see district 9 yet so at this point id go with:

5. drag me to hell
4. inglorious bastards
3. the hangover
2. star trek
1. zombieland

In no paticular order:

Pixar's Up
Inglorious Basterds
Hangover
Up in the Air (The George Clooney movie apparently no one saw)
District 9

Honorable mention
Bad Lieutenant: Port of Call: New Orleans

1) Up
2) 500 Days of Summer
3) District 9
4) House of the Devil
5) Star Trek

Up has become by far my favorite Pixar film. I wasn't at all interested in seeing Up until I seen the raving reviews. Up was by far the biggest surprise for me. The first 15-20 minutes are some of the best film making of 2009...or any recent year to be honest.
why do people keep mentioning gran torino? it was 2008
Wide release in theaters was in January 2009. Select theaters was in December 2008.
why do people keep mentioning gran torino? it was 2008
Gran Torino's WIDE release date was Jan 9th.

Yes, it was finished in 2008, but unless you lived next to the super secret special theatre (most people), you weren't going to see it.

I'd say it can slide for 2009.

Up and The Hangover were my favorite movies. Inglorious Basterds was good too. Zombieland was nothing special, and Paranormal Activity sucked.

1. Inglorious Basterds
2. Watchmen
3. Star Trek
4. Drag Me to Hell
5. District 9/500 Days of Summer/Paranormal Activity (Can't seem to choose)
Public Enemies
The Hangover
Watchmen
Star Trek
Ponyo
oh! i forgot bout ponyo! haha, this movie was great, too.
i think i just like saying ponyo...
Limited release 2008, huccuple. Didn't come out for everybody until Jan 9, 2009.
Yeah, I guess that works/makes sense. I had it in several theatres by me in 2008.

1. 500 Days of Summer
2. The Hangover
3. District 9
4. Star Trek
5. Zombieland

Haven't seen Up In The Air or Avatar yet.
In no paticular order:

Inglorious Basterds
Hangover

District 9

I forgot about the Hurt Locker.....Swap out 'District 9' for the 'Hurt Locker'

In no particular order:
Up
Invention Of Lying
The Hangover
Star Trek
Harry Potter & The Half Blood Prince

Worst movie easily goes to Transformers 2.
In no particular order:
Up
Invention Of Lying
The Hangover
Star Trek
Harry Potter & The Half Blood Prince

To me, GI Joe was way worst than Transformers 2.

I've never seen enough movies in theaters to contribute. I'll give Star Trek the nod as the best picture of the year though.

You obviously didn't see Paranormal Activity. At least Transformers 2 had a little bit of a plot.

I completely forgot about Hurt locker on my list which was a fantastic film until the end which i didn't care much for...but way better than District 9 in my opinion.

Revised list:
1) Up
2) 500 Days of Summer
3) The Hurt Locker
4) House of the Devil
5) Star Trek
