Immense gratitude to Shrike4242 for updating this thing while I was away!!!

This is an odd one.....

Basically the gist is that Toys R Us is reducing its inventory by 20% by marking down over 6,000 skns from it's inventory, most of which are toys. There are however roughly 300 or so video games/accesories that will be a part of this clearance. As of 7/11 all have been marked down from 30-50%. TRU is seeking to aggressively move these skns out of its stores. So if these games have not sold in roughly a months time they will be marked down again...a month later, again.....and so on until it's gone. So if you're the gamblin' type I suppose you could hold out for cheaper prices. Prices seem to be good everywhere, though there may be some variance in prices between stores.

Everything that is a part of this sale is on a 3 week cycle, meaning that every three weeks any items remaining in the stores will receive another price drop. Seeing as how these prices went into effect on the 11th of July we should be seeing them all drop again on the 1st of August.

The only caveat here being that retail is an odd beast that can be subject to change. So basically there is another price drop coming that in all likelihood will happen on the 1st so check back on the than to see what's up.

*****CONDENSED VERSION FOR THOSE OF US THAT ARE NOT SO GOOD WITH THE READING*****

a.) TRU marked down a shiton of inventory.

b.) Inventory will continue to be marked down if they do not sell.

c.) Prices may vary between store.

not sure if this is part of the price drop from the TRU pricedrop or its a universal pricedrop, but Fire Emblem: Sacred Stone is 19.99 where i live
OK, a little off topic, but since TRU is also marking down TOYS, I was wondering if anyone knew where I could obtain a list or at least a rough idea of what was included in the sale

Thanks,
-Brian
Id also like to know this also.....might have some action figures I might be interested in....

That price is universal.

The current list of markdown items is way too huge to post. The list just from today was well over 30 pages worth. A buttload of Barbie stuff, Family Guy figures and too much for me to even remember. The Rzone list is coming. I was told hopefully by the end of the week. I've been checking every day I've gone in to work. If I hear anything, you guys will be the first to know.

I saw a microsoft brand DVD Playback Kit for $4.98 today at my TRU as far as the Games go they were mostly all exactly 50% off
Exactly. Those barcodes are just temporary, for the sake of tracking returns. When they are to be returned to the sales floor, the "new" barcodes are scanned and removed from the item. If anything, someone will pay less than what you did, if the item had been opened and returned as still working. My store has been rather overzealous about marking down returned merchandise.
Ahh sorry.. Must've been a worker that didn't know what they were doing then.. She was being very careful that the new barcode covered the old one completely and did return them to the sales floor like that.. Was some of that intec crap from the clearance sale they had.. I have seen someone putting the barcodes anywhere before and I assumed they were either being lazy or being nice..

Holy shit, your TRU has Family Guy toys? Man, ours barely has any figures beyond the realm of Mattel, Jakks, Marvel Toys, Bandai and Hasbro. It's rare enough when we get friggin McFarlane figures that aren't sports related (or better yet, when we get more then one or two boxes worth).

I saw some collector there looking at the limited edition Iron Man figures. He did not like the shape of the box....told the CSR that it had too many dings on the box for him to enjoy the figure.

WTF?

Yeah for him to enjoy it once he resells it.

Note to JetSetMario:

Can you please change the title of this topic when prices are added? I keep clicking on this topic and reading, but I really don't see any need to keep doing that until prices are added.

Thanks.

I just picked up a McFarlane John Force figure for $2.48, and I'm torn on opening it and putting him next to my Spawn and Mega Man figures.

And to the person asking about scanning all of the pages:
No way in hell would I have the time. I work two jobs and have a 13 month old daughter and little free time as it is.

Can anyone in the Houston area send me a PM if they see any price drops? I'll do likewise if you PM me letting me know you live in Houston.

Didn't see much at a TRU I went to, I saw Sega Classics Collection for $7.48 (not a deal as it's $6 at CC) and saw Finny the Fish for $12.98
Tons of action figures, only Bioncle on the Legos.
That's good to know, it's been far too long since I've been able to pick up any action figures :)

Here's a weird one: any word on a price drop for Power Ranger toys? Specifically, the Deluxe Zords...

Thanks OP!
Went to TRU,not much on sale
Checked castlevania dp still normal price
katamari was 9.99
Sweet lord WHICH KATAMARI GAME??

rule of thumb is this when it comes to action figures, if its not worth anything now, its never going to be

In addition to which Katamari game, I'd like to know which store, since you're local to me if I remember correctly. :D

I'm gonna take a guess and say it was the first one, since it was part of last years green tag sale.

They still have Power Ranger toys?

I'm hoping the very last of the 3.75" GI Joes are marked down (particularly those 6-packs), I'd love to be able to pick those up cheap.

I hate this sale already and my resentment and hatred for TRU grows... that store should have gone under long ago, imo, they aren't even any good at stocking toys, everytime I go in there the shelves are empty and its like a ghost town.

First things first -- visited another TRU today. PS2 hard drive 69.99, nothing else of note. No obvious sale going on, although picked up a Mega Blocks TNG Enterprise for $15. Had seen it before for 20+ and decided to pass. This was about the right price.

Lots of craptacular old stuff spread over many aisles -- essentially stuff that Target clearanced at the beginning of the year, and for less.
I hate this sale already and my resentment and hatred for TRU grows...
I don't like the nature of this sale. Say what you will about TRU before, but at least it was pretty standardized across the stores. Maybe there's a sale coming sometime soon but nobody knows when or what or at what stores? Ugh.

I'm hoping that the new management will be able to do something with it. So far, though, this "sale" isn't it.

This sale hasn't officially began. There is a big time clearance going on in all of the sections of the store. Each day will be a different section. My guess is the R Zone will be next week since the pricelist isn't available yet.

Not to mention that it'll be different percentages for different stores and different games will clearance out at different times?

It's almost like they don't want to get rid of this stuff... they should just use the old green tag method since that seemed to work very well.

Please excuse my n00bitude, but could someone explain exactly what the green tag sale is?
I would have rather seen the green tag sale as well, especially because with a list you could go into a store and find games that were green tagged without a physical green tag on them so CAG's had an advantage over everyone else out there who was just looking for games with an actual green tag on them
Please excuse my n00bitude, but could someone explain exactly what the green tag sale is?
In 2004 and 2005, certain games that had green tags were on clearance. In 2004 first they were 50% off, then 70% off then 90% off. In 2005 they were 30% off, then 50% off and then all green tag games were a flat $9.99 (some games were lowered in price and some were raised in price)
Please excuse my n00bitude, but could someone explain exactly what the green tag sale is?
The Green Tag sale was the old TRU method of doing massive item clearances. Everything on the master list would be marked the regular price on a green label, hence the name. When the sale started, everything green tagged was 30% off the marked price. After a few months, it went up to 50%, then 70% and then finally 90%. By the time 90% hits though, all the good stuff was gone.

When the 50% to 70% transition hit, the video games were removed from said list and were all marked at 9.98/9.99. This resulted in some games being a huge amount off, and some actually went up in price (Onimusha 3 being one of those).

Sadly, the Green Tag sales will no longer occur, since TRU was bought out. I'm sure the "glitch" abuse played at least a small part in this decision, but for the most part the execution of the whole thing was rather sloppy and not done very efficiently.
Ah, so the Bloodrayne 2 I nabbed for $10 was a rare Green tag leftover.

Still, sweet find on a rare game.
My TRu still has a few copies of BR2 left. I picked my copy up when it was $9.99 at Circuit City. And there are at least 10 copies of Virtua Fighter 4 as well. Quite a few GT leftovers.... nothing really great though.

All of us need jobs or big-time income for all these sales coming up, quick. I spent $90 on Cicuit city for games, I'm now down to $110 for my summer money, and more sales to come...

No offense, but it seems this sale is going to be alot more sloppy than the GT sales ever were.

Yeah, mine had a whole rack filled with VF4:Evo and some other varied filler, all green-tagged.

BR2 is a nice buy for an enjoyably dumb guilty pleasure. Sheds some of the first one's panache, but also loses a lot of the first one's crap (The Louisiana levels).

What sort of "glitches" were there in the GT system to abuse?

8 pages deep and not one Rzone CAG has reported? Ill ask one of my friends who still works in Rzone 2maro to ask when it starts, when i was there we were aware of these things months ahead.

this is going to be a clusterfuck, i cant see it going over well with different stores having different things at different prices. Shit this is becoming like CompUSA or Walmart type YMMV.

I can't speak for all the R-Zone guys on this board, but most of us haven't got information. The information being what exactly is being marked down in our sections, or even when.

I asked today about it and my boss confirmed that everything was being slowly marked down. Many of the toys we have in the store are slowly getting marked down, old items from Imaginarium all the way to action figures. He didn't know when exactly the R-Zone were getting their lists. But he also confirmed that it is regional. As the OP and others have mentioned, it will all depends on what is not selling well or at all at your particular R-Zone.

Yes, usually R-Zone guys know about this sort of thing ahead of time. The difference between this and weekly ads or even the green tag sale is that this is YMMV and the latter aren't (well for the most part the GT sale wasn't). With the GT sale for the most part, many stores shared 90%+ of the same items that were going on clearance. For this clearance sale, if a certain SKU, whether it be a game or a toy, was set to sell X amount of units by X date, and has failed to reach that....well that all depends on the region.

Psychonauts could be selling well at one TRU in the country, and not well at another. So this clearance (though the game is mentioned in that list) may just drop the price for those regions who are struggling to sell that particular item.

You'll see R-Zone guys like myself reporting once we get information. Why would the OP post a thread like this and not give further information. He and other R-Zone employees could've kept it to themselves. He's out to help everyone and let everyone know, since this sale probably won't be advertised in the same way as the first GT sale was.

Again, thank you OP.

I would have checked several prices in TRU times square if the bastards would stop turning off the price scanner. I swear how do they expect to sell things if they wont let us know the price without having to stand on line for 15 minutes damn price check?!

Exactly, thanks for clarifying it for everyone. People need to be patient with this one, as it's been stated numerous times in this thread that the actual rzone list(s) have not yet become available at the store level.
