Immense gratitude to Shrike4242 for updating this thing while I was away!!!

This is an odd one.....

Basically the gist is that Toys R Us is reducing its inventory by 20% by marking down over 6,000 skns from it's inventory, most of which are toys. There are however roughly 300 or so video games/accesories that will be a part of this clearance. As of 7/11 all have been marked down from 30-50%. TRU is seeking to aggressively move these skns out of its stores. So if these games have not sold in roughly a months time they will be marked down again...a month later, again.....and so on until it's gone. So if you're the gamblin' type I suppose you could hold out for cheaper prices. Prices seem to be good everywhere, though there may be some variance in prices between stores.

Everything that is a part of this sale is on a 3 week cycle, meaning that every three weeks any items remaining in the stores will receive another price drop. Seeing as how these prices went into effect on the 11th of July we should be seeing them all drop again on the 1st of August.

The only caveat here being that retail is an odd beast that can be subject to change. So basically there is another price drop coming that in all likelihood will happen on the 1st so check back on the than to see what's up.

*****CONDENSED VERSION FOR THOSE OF US THAT ARE NOT SO GOOD WITH THE READING*****

a.) TRU marked down a shiton of inventory.

b.) Inventory will continue to be marked down if they do not sell.

c.) Prices may vary between store.
Yes, but you didn't have to make a thread before you knew anything about any of the videogame drops. If you made a thread the day you found out, it would've been better. I appreciate you guys letting us know, don't get me wrong, but it could've been more organized that way.
I thought the OP was quite clear. I see a post like yours and it has the potential (while not intentional), to drive employees away from sharing inside info. We should be kissing their ass and welcoming them with open arms. Again, not saying that's your intention. Patience, people.

fuck... 15,000 + views. With this wide of a time gap, no way that FW isn't going to catch wind of this. If the markdowns are a decent percentage, CAG's are going to have to act fast.

Well, let me be clear: thank you to the OP and all TRU employees who can shed light on this. Even when we don't show the love for your employer or the specific sale being discussed, we're very grateful for what you do for us here.

I think it's still important to say what we think of this sale. TRU employees obviously can't set policy, but they might be in a position to give feedback to managers and others. So far (been to 3 TRUs recently -- I'm interested in the toys and the r-zone stuff) I have to say that I think this is going to be a pain, and an example of how not to do a clearance sale.

And, while it may be tempting to say that TRU doesn't care about our crowd, obviously they do. They're putting this stuff on sale because they want to move it. I'm all too happy to help, but I don't intend on putting up with frustration or pointless trips to multiple TRUs.

I'm hoping the OP or another TRU employee will atleast let us know when the prices start going into effect so we can try to get in on it.
I'm hoping the OP or another TRU employee will atleast let us know when the prices start going into effect so we can try to get in on it.
Well I'm betting someone in my area has got to be hoping it's confirmed. At my local TRU in Riverside CA, there was a shelf full of Castlevania Double Packs that had been there for months. I went twice in the past three days since I was in the area and they were magically all gone.

From the stores I looked up in the Atlanta area I did see that FFXI drops Monday from 69.98 to 39.98 and most of the games from the 9.99 sale and PS1 games drop to 4.98

If they have FF VII PS1 on clearance, I'll jump on it, haha, less chance than winning lottery

I've heard the 16th on the sale. Is that 100% certain? I don't know for sure.

But it's something for all you nagging nannys.

Even if FatWallet gets this, we don't have a definitive list, we don't have prices, and everything's YMMV.

Don't panic just yet. :)

Who says "nagging nannys"?

If discounts are based on how well the games are selling, then it sounds like you'd be shooting yourself in the foot if you bought games ahead of expected price drops.

If a game is selling well at $50 in Florida and not in California, why shoot yourself in the foot by dropping the price to $10 everywhere? TRU simply has a better chance of making more (or losing less) money on a shelf-clearing clearance by targeting price drops in just those regions where certain games aren't selling well.

To that end, they're either letting regional/store-level managers choose what to discount, or they're deciding it at corporate and only telling each region the price drops that apply to them. Even more, TRU knows that at a certain price point, a clearance item will sell no matter how the word gets out. As a result, I doubt we'll ever see a complete list of all price-drops by region (assuming a sympathetic TRU VP doesn't troll CAG in his spare time).

This is just good business, and it'll probably keep TRU around longer. Remember, selling these games isn't their goal; it's clearing shelf space for product that will sell at full price.

Went to TRU in Covina, CA. yesterday and again today. Not a lot of good stuff to be seen. Psychonauts @ 21.00 was about the best there was. The only sale games to be seen @ 9.99 for XBOX or PS2 were Frogger, Trivial Pursuit, Counter Strike, Winnie the Pooh, and about 20 copies of that crappy game Trigger Man that have been sitting there since Christmas. I may have to make repeated trips over the next few days to see if anything new is marked down. But after that great CC sale :D and the armful of games I scored there( thank you CAG ), plus the cost of gas in going back again and again, I may
lose interest in this sale real quick.

Okay, let's play it this way:

Every day, at least one TRu employee will post on whether or not the rzone list has posted in stores yet. Me first.....

NO. Not yet.

I'll post again tomorrow, but it's doubtful anything will come through on the weekend.

My store had 50% of the games tagged with "New Low Price" stickers, which was rather annoying since most of them had been that price for the last 6 months or more.
Anyone check on Fire Emblem (GC)?
I scanned this at my local store (Northpoint, Alpharetta, GA) this afternoon, and it was not marked down yet. The RZone employee there hadn't heard about any markdowns, and suggested that I check back on Monday, when they typically do markdowns of any sort.

remember, in order for them to be a part of this deal, the "New Low Price" stickers have to have a slight smell of the manager's urine.

Yah, it's "negative Nancy's." Eesh, get it right people.

In anycase, my TRU has NO copies of Soul Calibur 3. So unless i feel like driving 20 some miles, then i guess i'll be getting nothing but Nintendo games.

I went to my TRU and asked the cashier. He said he didn't hear anything about a sale/clearance but if there was one, it would be ~2 weeks from now.

Only clearence items going down in rzone for tomorrow are electronic stuff. Some MP3 players and a lot of home electronic stuff is going on markdown.

Damn you TRU! My wallet is ready. Just give me my discounted Fire Emblem, Soul Calibur 3, and Psychonauts already! *grumble*
Oh well. Good things come to those who wait. ... but act fast enough to beat out the hoarders.

:applause:
I can't speak for all the R-Zone guys on this board, but most of us haven't got information. The information being what exactly is being marked down in our sections, or even when.

I asked today about it and my boss confirmed that everything was being slowly marked down. Many of the toys we have in the store are slowly getting marked down, old items from Imaginarium all the way to action figures. He didn't know when exactly the R-Zone were getting their lists. But he also confirmed that it is regional. As the OP and others have mentioned, it will all depends on what is not selling well or at all at your particular R-Zone.

Yes, usually R-Zone guys know about this sort of thing ahead of time. The difference between this and weekly ads or even the green tag sale is that this is YMMV and the latter aren't (well for the most part the GT sale wasn't). With the GT sale for the most part, many stores shared 90%+ of the same items that were going on clearance. For this clearance sale, if a certain SKU, whether it be a game or a toy, was set to sell X amount of units by X date, and has failed to reach that....well that all depends on the region.

Psychonauts could be selling well at one TRU in the country, and not well at another. So this clearance (though the game is mentioned in that list) may just drop the price for those regions who are struggling to sell that particular item.

You'll see R-Zone guys like myself reporting once we get information. Why would the OP post a thread like this and not give further information. He and other R-Zone employees could've kept it to themselves. He's out to help everyone and let everyone know, since this sale probably won't be advertised in the same way as the first GT sale was.

Again, thank you OP.
Quoting myself since no one seems to be reading posts before posting.

No one has gotten an official list of their particular R-Zone clearances. I've talked to my bosses about it already, they don't know when exactly it is. So far they have only gotten the lists for the toys in the store.

...and to Super_Nerd, the cashier didn't know anything about the clearance but magically had an estimated date of a clearance. why don't you guys just be patient and wait for some us R-Zone guys on here to post some information. WHEN we get it.

if you have any more questions, please read what I've just quoted.

The cashier was just saying that the TRU I went to did price drops in cycles so the next batch of price drops would be due in 2 weeks, if there was to be any sort of sale. Just posting what I heard from the TRU around where I live. If you took offense to that I guess I'll just keep whatever information I come across to myself.:bouncy:
I never understand why people get all pissy around here when people ask questions that have been answered or make posts that may not take into account something that was said in a previous post. You have to recognize that not all of us have the time to read through 10 pages of posts. Now that I have to commute 1.5 hours each way to work, I read the first post, maybe a few posts down, and then maybe the most recent handful or page of posts.

Thanks for the info and for quoting your original post, but lighten up.

I work at TRU and we had a ****load of markdowns today on everything elecrtonic besides games, accessories, and MP3 players. Pretty much everything else received a markdown of some sort. I didn't get any sort of list, I just went around the whole area checking the prices on everything. Hopefully the games will be coming in the next few days.

Actually all stores have a list of exactly what will drop in price, that is what is posted on the first page. The problem is that the list does not specify on what day the price will drop or as to what it will drop to, just that those skns will drop from 30-50% by the end of the month in TRU's continued effort to move aged inventory. This list is emailed to every TRU store each Friday.

at my TRU the Final Fantasy XI ps2 pack droped to 39.98, was 69.98, also full spectrum warrior for xbox to 9.98.

but like I said earlier, today was mostly non video game rzone stuff.

and some of the old ps1 games dropped. Syphon Filter and Twisted Metal 3 to 4.98. Were 15 each, never went back down after being taken off an old greentag.

What TRU is this, somewhere in the country?

This thread is going to go over real well if we all just post "Hey guys my TRU dropped some games bye". This is one of those sales where locations are going to be the most important thing of all.

What does the budget packaging for Hitman Contracts look like...? Can I tell which one is which? Just wondering since I didn't know there was more than one version....
What does the budget packaging for Hitman Contracts look like...? Can I tell which one is which? Just wondering since I didn't know there was more than one version....
Toys "R" Us contracts with a company called SVG distribution, basically this distribution company buys up a bunch of older games and than redistributes them to stores at a budget price. These games can be distinguished by a sticker UPC label that is affixed on top of the normal UPC code and by a sticker on the front of the package that reads "Great Games, Great Prices".
Any clues on prices? 50% off I saw tossed in somewhere. Though that wouldn't be enough for me to warrant going to TRU - I want Fire Emblem for GC, but I still probably wouldn't pay $25.
Tough stance. Fire Emblem is worth quadruple that price. It's really good.
